Cheers mad-moon and Roy. It's a little beauty.
The marker strikes are absolutely spot on which is something that normally puts me off quartz movements. It's a similar case to the Grand Seiko line too which is nice. :)
Unusual Invicta in that it’s got an NH36 movement.

Gold plate is fine. I've lots of gold plate, well rolled gold mostly which, although a different method amounts to same. Was very common on higher class pockets to give that rich look without actually paying for it [emoji23]

It's a watch I wanted for ages Alan and finally managed to buy one for the actual retail price. With the demand for Rolex sports watches I could make a substantial profit if I were to sell it but it's going nowhere. The only reason I might let it go is if I could use it as a part trade against a stainless steel Daytona but they're ridiculous money at the moment.

Yes, they both came from Creation but I learned a little trick a while back, if you choose delivery by Royal Mail (costs about £6) & opt not to have the watch box (it's sent with the paperwork in a pouch with a collapsible box) you don't get any additional charges, don't quite know how it works?

My first watch was a Timex, given to me when I was about 8 years old. Are Timex watches still made in Scotland or are they now made in China?

In the early 70's I got a Mickey Mouse watch, after seeing the TV series "Budgie", starring Adam Faith. Loved that watch, cost me six quid. I really like that Popeye watch, I'd wear that :)
The popeye watch has a Seiko NH35 movement so a decent watch in it’s own right. Other half bought me a Mickey Mouse one a couple of years back. She was trying to get me a snoopy one this year but they were hard to come by hence the popeye which was a pleasant surprise [emoji846]

Currently use an old Omega seamaster, loses about 5 minutes a day! So just bought a new Seiko 'Presage', not sure I'll like it though, as I like the old style watch - smallish and slim, but these presages look nice from photos anyway, and at 37.5 mm aren't too big. Then discovered something called Grand Seiko, some really nice retro pieces there, but once again, prefer the one's for the Jap market, smaller I think - 35mm, not cheap though. https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/collections/seiko-presage-watches/products/seiko-presage-watch-mens-srpe41j1

Found this in my wardrobe drawer, been there since about 1970 when my uncle gave it to me. Never really used it as at the time it looked old fashioned to me. It still works, kept good time over the last day since I got it out.
Appears to be a better watch than I thought.

I could try some fine compound on the glass, it would then look much better.
Reading around, Lemania made movements for Tissot.

That is very interesting, thank you. The uncle that gave me the watch was in the RAF during the war, it's possible this a reason he bought a Lemania.
The watch does seem of good quality, is so quiet I cannot hear it at all. I have some other old watches, I must unearth! them, possibly I might find something unusual and interesting.

Yep, get a new glass, will look a lot better, alot of the vintage watch collectors like them in 'original' condition, that is not repainted dials. Some of the old watches with a patina on the dial actually look very tasteful, when the metal work is polished a bit, the patina stands out nicely.

I'd like one of these Omegas, but think they go for around £1000 - £2000 depending on whether bought off ebay or from a dealer, I do worry about authenticity, so just getting something like a new Grand seiko around £3k might make more sense, as servicing these old watches ain't cheap either. This is one of Don's watches from 'Mad Men'.

I read that the fashion for watches with large dials is coming to an end. https://www.gq.com/gallery/best-small-watches-under-38mm, and that watches under 40mm in size are to be preferred.
The question I ask is that the diameter of the watchglass/dial, or is it the overall diameter of the case (excluding winder)? The case of my Rolex (bought in 1970) measures 35mm.

Strange that Rolex have made their 'Submariner' 1mm bigger and I haven't noticed a resurgence of smaller watches? (I note that the article linked to was dated April 2020 with the original article dating back to 2018).
Diameter is usually quoted excluding the crown but when I sell a watch I always qualify that.
But when is big big?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADUPvm8Z9mM
I also read of the resurgence of smaller watches in one of the weekend supplements about three months ago. Personally I dislike the large watch sizes that are prevalent today, but respect it's a matter of taste.
Taste yes but it’s also about how watches ‘wear’ and the size of the wrist it’s on.
I’m still wearing the Parnis I referenced earlier in the thread and hadn’t realised it’s actually 46mm (excluding the crown [emoji6] )

40mm is my limit for bezel-cased watches, 38mm for non-bezel pieces. I used to wear watches as big as 50mm, but they're far too big and end up getting clonked on door frames etc.
A slender profile also does it for me. 12mm the absolute limit.

35 mm for my skinny wrists. I prefer the look anyway.

I too prefer a slim profile, but Rolexes being a truly waterproof watch will always be thick.

I was looking at the Waterbury range as well, I like the nice classic dial and case shape, but I'm after one with a smaller case, 40mm seems to be the vogue these days.

It's a really good looking watch (photos don't do it justice) and doesn't wear that big. Time keeping's more or less spot on to.
I'd just add that it's rare I keep the same watch on for three days ;)

Cheers. Squale have been around for donkeys, plus they built water resistant cases for many watch makers as well. The sub copyright was up years ago which is why so many use the style - it's exactly right for its purpose. The build quality of this piece is exceptional for the relatively low price tag (relative to Rolex that is).

Will have to check them out although I'm not keen on the face graphics and although it gets generally good reviews mention is made of poor power reserve and stiff bezels (matron).

Only problem with ordering from the states is what starts off as a good price is inflated by shipping, duties & import fees :(

It's not like the members of my local gentleman's cider appreciation society are homeless, a couple of them live (I suspect illegally) in the maisonettes next door. Think this place has got a revolving door as there are a number of comings and goings throughout the day and night. They appear to laugh in the face of covid but I doubt the virus would go near them, they all look like they need pressure washing.

I've given myself permission for this sale, as it may be of interest to the folks on this thread...
FS: Job lot of watches - instant collection!
Click for full size pictures.
1. Seiko Dancing Hands. The model is the 6M25-8050 which has the 37mm Grand Seiko style case. Gorgeous dark blue dial with a sunburst finish. Sized for 7.75" no spare links. Works perfectly, mind-bending movement controls on this one, but there are instructions online.
Slight marks, but nothing of note. Pics look worse than real life.

2. Invicta Sub-alike. In gold, barely worn and hardly a mark on it, comes with box and a gold looped black NATO, and a soft black leather strap with a gold buckle. Full bracelet sized for 7.75" plus two spare links. Tags and stickers blah blah. 40mm.

3. Accurist 7216 quartz. This is one of their 'Heritage' models. 42mm quartz with running centre seconds and a chrono. Nice bracelet, again sized for 7.75" plus two links. Double box, the normal stuff. Never worn.

4. Casio Altimeter ana-digi. Backlit display, altimeter, chrono, countdown, calendars, barometer etc etc. What doesn't it do? 53mm including the side sensors but wears smaller. Sized for 7.75" with a bag of bracelet link bits. Manual (you'll need it), display case, box. Cracking for the gym!

My intention was to offer it with both straps, the brown one is a quick release and only owes me £4 or so.

nice quality looking watch..
nice quality looking watch..
Watch shops own brand, they were running a promotion. NH35 movement & ceramic bezel & more or less a grab and go watch as it has no date so just time to set (not that I'm going anywhere).
seiko?
Yes, nice quality bracelet to, very comfortable to wear.

I've had a couple of them, and all I can say is 'darned impressive'. Build quality, line up, finish are all exemplary - even if they cost ten times the price tag the quality would still stand. The finish on this Ploprof is outstanding, especially the case brushing and polishing.
I picked this one up barely worn from a TZ member for £225 which is a complete snip.
Real one is 7k.
Indeed. That's a whole heap of cash which I would be unlikely to ever spend on a single watch.
I'll be looking out for one of those for the collection

I bought a couple new off their website (the Tuna & the blue Willard I think?) and thought they were a bargain for the quality on offer. The rest have come off the bay.
Steeldive's take on a Hulk, found a fake oysterflex for it as well

Any Casio with 'G Shock' printed on it seems to sell for a premium, on ebay Casio digital watches start from about a tenner and up whereas G Shocks start at around 40 quid.
