I’d forgotten all about Julian Cope. Don’t think I have any albums but certainly have World Shut Your Mouth 7” single.
I have one, called My Nation Underground, with the single Charlotte Anne on it. Quite good as I remember, but when I played it a while ago it was really crackly, despite not being played much. I don't know why that happens with some records, while others get played to death and remain in good shape :scratch:

I have all the Tracy Chapman albums apart from her most recent two and she never managed to eclipse her debut in my opinion, it’s a stunner.
Dire Straits I would probably go with Love Over Gold as my favourite, mainly because Private Investigations is my favourite track of theirs. Brothers in Arms is of fours an all time classic, but I much prefer side 2, Walk of Life gets on my nerves and Money For Nothing I played so much when it came out it kind of got done to death - but I do like all of their output, properly Dad rock.

I’d probably say start at the beginning, Mike, with the self titled Dire Straits Martin played earlier from 1978. They never really deviate from their signature style, very much driven by Mark Knopfler’s guitar playing and voice, but overall excellent musicianship and well recorded.

Re Electric Wizard's Dopethrone - I'm on the fence with this. Sometimes I think it's great, other times I think they're just punks who played slow and did a few naughty things that helped to give the album a bit of a legend. I've noticed that my perception of it alters depending how much beer I've had.
Julian Cope's World Shut Your Mouth is, however, always a delight.

Overall really good, even from first play I know it'll be a regular :) Only disappointment is that "Love Story" lacks the vocals of the single (which was actually called "Love Story vs, Finally"). So now I'm determined to get a copy of the single, which isn't particularly cheap. I have just put a bid on Ebay, I'll find out later if I was successful. I'm now like a dog with a bone, and it's all Alex's fault!
The song samples from Devo's "Mongoloid". I can hear that now. I suppose I should play "Are We Not Men" next. That's me down the rabbit hole...

It's quite playful, almost a recorded jam session rather than a formal LP in some places... I can understand why some might not like it so much.

IMHO too :) I did used to have Freak Out, Absolutely Free and We're only in it for the Money (which were all Zappa/Mothers iirc) and liked them all. But that was the early 70s and I've not heard them since then. I'm not sure what I'd make of them these days, though I'm tempted to give them a go. So little time, so much Zappa :)

I'll hold judgement on 'Anyway' as I rarely play it, because the plastic 'envelope' sleeve is a PITA to negotiate.

IMO Hendrix's best album. Took me a while to discover it as I was put off by the horribly kitsch cover.

No it's from 1974 it's the album in between 'Time Fades Away' and 'Tonight's The Night - but it was out of print from 1981 and did not get released on CD until 2003.
For an original vinyl copy you're looking at fifty notes or more.

I knew someone who on hearing 'Safe as Milk' for the first time thought that Beefheart was mocking Howling Wolf's singing voice. He was a big blues fan, as I was, but I had to explain to my friend that, IMO, Beefheart was in fact complimenting the great blues singer.

In 1973 Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold as Love were put together and that's the version I have. Been a few years since this came off the shelf, as last time I tried it the 'Experienced' disc was so warped the cartridge thought it was on a roller coaster. Turns out the 'Axis' disc is fine, perfect even, with not even any crackles. So that's what I'm playing.

One of my favourite LPs! Seen the film a couple of times, but the album alone stands up well.
And like you, think that 'Will You?' is an excellent track: expressing the doubts and anxieties of young love - plus of course that wonderful sax solo.
I didn't know Hazel O'Connor had suffered a brain haemorrhage. Really sad to have learned that.

Worth a revisit, Barry, great album in my opinion.
One of my favourite artists ever - Tina Dico, and this “best of” is a good place to start if you don’t know her music. Just genius in my opinion.

Just makes me shudder. My most hated of bands. At work I used to switch the radio onto mute when they came on. People complained but balls to them.

I think I have pretty much all of GA's albums, but this is definitely their best imo. Gets a lot of plays round here. Though "Hello Country..." has its moments.
Andy Cato is big on his farming these days, he bought a big place in France, paid for by selling the rights to his songs I read. And he has also bought a farm in Oxfordshire with his mate George Lamb (son of actor Larry Lamb). Cato appeared in an episode of "Clarkson's Farm" last year, talking about his environmentally friendly farming methods.
I didn't know about his farming activities, interesting. I've never watched the Clarkson program, maybe I should.

Even if you don't like Clarkson (not many do), it's still worth a watch. Informative, often funny, and you have to give him credit for trying. And for a change he's not trying to be the smartest person in the room. But the young farmer Caleb is the star of the show.

Ms. Harvey does seem to have quite a following. I do have that last one you played, and it's a "deluxe edition"! (one extra track by the look of it), but I didn't care for it much. Maybe I should listen harder.
Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea is a brilliant album, I love the two Thom York collaborations, though strangely I could never really get into Radiohead (despite owning a few if not all of their albums.)
I haven't played any of her stuff for a long time. She's a bit of an angry lass, and I went through a period when I liked female singers with 'attitude'.
You might try listening to 'To Bring You My Love'.

I do indeed have “Walking Wounded” so that’s the first play of the day sorted!
A bit like you, 10,000 Maniacs largely passed me by, but I would say her solo stuff is a bit more demure and stripped back, but still with a lovely voice.

2005 now, slowly dragging myself back to the future. I usually play their first album, Genetic World which is a great album but this is another that hasn’t had a full airing in a while.

Californian Trip/Hop/Chillout - it’s a good play once in a while, my favourite track is the opener Never The Same and so is on my compilations, but the album never eclipses the first track in my opinion, but that’s probably due to overfamiliarity. I’ve not got any of their other albums (this was their debut) so may have to look into that.

It's one that gets played quite often here :) Twenty years ago your above mentioned tracks were on my iPod, but I only got round to buying the album a few years ago. A cracker of an album :) Our tastes seem to be pretty much identical!
