To quote from Discogs: "Folktronica duo consisting of Anna Domino and Michel Delory playing songs based on traditional ballads in the public domain.". So basically folk songs with electronic effects.

Quite distinctive - I like them, but I can imagine they are somewhat of an acquired taste.

If you are interested, I would suggest you listen to 'Songs From My Funeral'.

Different enough, that, me too.

Some belters on there for sure. [emoji4]

I love Above & Beyond, somehow this album completely passed me by (probably because I am not usually a massive live album fan) at the time, but I can’t stop playing it, very different to their usual clubby music but utterly brilliant.

Yeah they've done some excellent stuff over the years. I was hoping to follow it with some more GA, but Anita came back early, so I've switched to something more 'laid back' (yes I know Groove Armada are already pretty chilled, but I don't make the rules, I just follow them) :)

Hi Mike, I only saw your PM this morning (thanks for that), I'd already ordered the album. Got it for £3.49 off World Books. As you say, silly prices. Like Macca, I wasn't keen on a lot of those tunes back in the day, but have since 'grown into' them. I like that they are all 12", which ime offer so much more than the 'single edits'.

Visited our local car boot this morning, a picked up (for a pound each):

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Boz Scaggs - Some Change
Paul McCartney - All The Best!

I think all of these will fall into your dreaded AOR/ grandad rock categories :) but then I am a grandad, have been for 18 years now!

Took a few attempts to get this one playing. My CD player Marantz CD6006 (UK edition), is being a bit of a knobhead lately, and is only getting worse. Sometimes the drawer won't open, then it won't close, and moves very slowly. Also miss-tracked towards the end of a couple of CDs yesterday.

I'll pay a visit to Mike Powell at Bolton next week, but might give him my old Densen player to fix instead. Apparently it uses a generic Sony mechanism, so shouldn't be too costly.

Great album.

But unusual really - I bought the CD "deluxe edition" with bonus CD... Now, normally such an album will comprise a disc 1 with the main album, with the 'bonus CD' being disc 2. Not so with this one - the bonus tracks CD is disc 1. No big deal really, but I've gone all this time thinking I actually prefer the bonus CD  Makes sense now.

Disc 2 is a bit more upbeat and 'modern'.

Both discs worth having though, so getting the deluxe version on CD could be a good thing, unless you're committed to vinyl.

To be honest Steve he was not on my radar until about 6 months ago, when one of the songs was a recommendation as a test song. The album is a double live and was released in 2012 I believe and sold out very quickly and goes for silly money on Discogs. Not sure how to describe the music, this album is a trio, sort of folk, blues with some effects thrown in. I streamed it and enjoyed it, then a couple of months ago Steve posted it was being re-released limited to 500 copies for the American audience as it was never released there.
He seems to be very popular in Europe, the more I listen, he reminds of Nick Drake and John Martyn.

Can't beat a bit of Sade, I don't have that one though.

£6 on ebay, Music Magpie - well worth it. I think it's my favourite of hers.

There's one on Ebay even cheaper than that. But it says 'remastered' on the case, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing

Absolutely incredible. The most powerful track I've heard since Stan by Eminem. Really affective.

My middle daughter introduced me to him about 4 years ago and I've loved (and bought) everything since.

Violet's Tale, which I put up a couple of posts previously, is the more productionised version. Not quite as hard hitting but still a difficult listen.

It's not bad. Singer sounds a bit like her out of The B52s. I think someone I know, or knew, must have been in the band or worked on it in some way, and that's why I have it.

It's only from 2017 so I should really remember. But I don't.

Lot of great music came out in the 80s, and Tears for Fears were right up there with the best.

Agreed, another belter. I’ll stay in the 80’s for a bit, then. Probably not cool these days, but this album takes some beating in my favourites of back then.

According to Wikipedia:

Midge Ure decided that George Martin was the man to produce this album (not a universally popular decision). When George (whose failing hearing was an "industry secret") was asked by his son Giles how the album was progressing, he replied "Two boiled eggs" :wheniwasaboy:

Apparently he thought his son was asking what he'd had for his lunch.

Snap! I pulled this one off the shelf, but then spotted this Davidge album next to it. Think I'll stick it on next.

As you probably know, Neil Davidge is a long time collaborator with massive Attack (from Mezzanine onwards). And it sounds like it. If you like Massive Attack (course you do) then this one is worth checking out. A bit Portisheady too.

Well with 4,000 places for it to hide, it would have been understandable. I only have about 700, stored alphabetically. If one goes back in the wrong place it can be missing for months  It has happened.

Anyway, decided to go with this next. Overshadowed somewhat by Copperhead Road, but still decent.

There was a time I would have agreed but have reconsidered some of the stuff from that era since, and I think there was actually a lot of very good pop songs. A lot of dross too but that's true of any era especially the current one.

I agree. As I've been forced to go vinyl only for the foreseeable, and as about half of my records hail from the 80s, I'll be sticking with 80s albums to illustrate this point.

Starting with this: Paul Simon Graceland (1986)

Not any more - I recently gave my blu ray player to Anita's dad so be could play his CDs and DVDs through his telly. No big deal, I hadn't used it in donkeys, I'd already given my meagre blu ray collection to Grant.

I could always "borrow back" a budget CD player I'd given to a mate couple of years ago (I need to stop giving shit to him, he never uses them ), but I can't be arsed.

No hardship really, except for the accelerated wear on my cartridge

Anita bought that when it came out (for the reason you mention), and I've never played it as it is, well, Anita's, and her tastes tend to be more "poppy" than mine. Maybe I'll give it a go when I get my CDP back. If I remember.
