Released exactly ten years ago today, on his 69th birthday, two days before his passing. Where did that ten years go?
Only played this once, I found it a difficult listen. Giving it a second go now, it still sounds like his death on vinyl.

Another oddity in my collection, and I don’t remember anything about it! Apparently her 17th studio album, but I have none of the previous 16 and nothing since? Strange.

Nottingham duo’s debut from 2005, but industry stalwarts under various other projects. Funky uplifting electronica, but pretty hard to find a physical copy so if you see one snap it up. Nothing on the streaming platforms apart from a couple of their EPs. I have the third and last CD album “Mince & Onions” but the middle one “Hooked on You” has eluded me it appears…. Not now, coming from the states for fifteen quid. [emoji846]

been a fan since that came out and like pretty much everything he did since even the Batman soundtrack, but Purple Rain is still the only one of his I've got.
Just don't ever see his albums in the second hand shops.

Another one not played in eons - considering it is older than me the recording is fantastic, as is the production and of course, the performances.

Doesn’t look like the movie is available to stream free on any of the platforms, I certainly don’t ever remember seeing it on broadcast TV. I am sure I have it on DVD but they’re all in the loft, I will have to check. That said, it’s only £7.99 in 4k on Apple so that would save a trip up the ladder to the freezing cold! Agree with you regarding the Doors biopic film. Oliver Stone did a good job with the band performing live, but the rest was clichéd fantasy: "sex drugs and rock and roll". Disappointing!

Had a bit of a Rod Stewart night last night, with "Rod Stewart Radio 2 in Concert" on BBC4. Didn't think it would be my thing, but Rod did a good job and surrounded himself with some very talented performers. Followed by "Rod Stewart at the BBC". BBC's usual format, best known songs in chronological order from OGWT, TOTP and other footage. With lots of related trivia chucked in, learn as you listen :)

I know what you mean, though to my ears there's really no comparison. At least with his early stuff, like "In a Broken Dream" by Aussie rock band Python Lee Jackson. They recruited Rod to provide the vocals, for which he was paid the princely sum of... a set of seat covers for his car! :) I expect he gets paid better these days, even though his voice has faded a bit.

Some people frown on the use of samplers, but I like them for the simple reason they are easier to pull out when you can't decide which of the artist(s) 'proper' LPs to play.

Yes, it's a Roxy recording that doesn't get mentioned much. I have them all, but never looked to see the line-up, so naively assumed Eno played on all their recordings. :doh:

Brian Eno was only with Roxy Music for their first two albums, then it was Eddie Jobson for Stranded, Country Life and Siren.

Cover a slight departure from their earlier efforts. About as arty as a slap in the face with a wet fish. Though no doubt appealed to teenage boys, myself included :) Musically it's ok, but not a patch on Stranded imo.
It appealed to me as a 'twenty something'. Though to be honest, apart from their last LP, all of Roxy's record sleeve artwork is sexist.

I used to have that CD, but found it quite indifferent - plus the totally unnecessary DVD-size case meant it was difficult to file away. I never was much of a Gary Numan fan, I even got rid of 'The Pleasure Principle'.
As debut albums go, this was a pretty good one.

I agree - I used to have this back in the 70s, no idea what happened to it. I saw a copy of it in a record shop a couple of years ago, and would have bought it if it wasn't so tatty and with a sticker price 20 odd quid :(
Two other posthumous recordings I had back then (Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning) weren't nearly as good imo.
Final one for the night, one of my favourites, so no hardship playing this band who really hale from Croydon...

Fair enough - remove 'Viva' and push the rest up a place. I think we are in agreement with 'For your Pleasure' and with their debut album. With the exception of 'Flesh + Blood' which I have on vinyl, all the rest are remastered CDs, so the only track I like on 'Roxy Music' is Virginia Plain, which I believe was not on the original release. Even so 'For Your Pleasure' is so much better.
As we go towards 'Avalon' the output is best described as "Brian Ferry with Roxy Music", as the group appear to take a backing rôle, whereas with the early releases they were more creative: "Roxy Music with Brian Ferry". :sofa:
I'm still on my own regarding 'Flesh + Blood', so it's a case of Barry contra mundam! :D

I'd just got my first company car which I inherited from someone who left - a Rover 216 GTi 3dr, which the previous "owner" had fitted a Kenwood stereo with 6 disc CD changer in the boot - I'm pretty sure this disc never left it, until some toerag smashed the window and stole the whole system including my CDs. That car was great, even had a "car phone" installed, drove it like I stole it until I moved to my current employer and had to suffer a Ford Mondeo TD LX. Not sure company cars are much of a thing anymore, unless you get an EV because of the tax.

Coincidentally, this and the last 2 albums have all been duos, going from rocky to poppy to dreamy. Nice harmonies here, but I might fall asleep! Scraping the bottom of the "colour" barrel (without repeating the colours) so I think one more before I will need to change theme!

I remember you having the Rover. My Dad had a 414 SLi (4 door saloon version) which he loved, too. They were excellent cars, mainly because they were built in conjunction with Honda. Of course Rover then became part of the BMW group, and for a brief spell they were even better - I had a Rover 75 in 2002 as my last but one company car and it was truly excellent. Coincidentally I then moved from Rover to Audi. I can't imagine not having tunes on when driving, though!

Anita prefers to drive in silence, but when I've got the car there has to be some tunes. Mostly just the radio when going local, but for longer trips I'll have CDs on the go.
I found music on the move to be more important on my older cars from yesteryear - if the car developed a dodgy rattle or squeak you could either take it to the garage to get it sorted, or just turn the music up loud enough to drown the offending noises. I chose the latter :)
Yes - it was a 416 SLi, and it was a 'Honda' in disguise.
I once drove a Rover 75 on company business and it was a nice drive, but more of "I'm built for comfort, I ain't built for speed". ;)

Those Rover 216/416 were pretty nippy on the quiet. In the early 90s I had a MK 2 Golf GTI 16v, my mate had a 216GTi. And there really wasn't much in it. His insurance was quite a bit cheaper too.

Follows on both thematically and in style. Back in 1999 I lost one of my best friends to sepsis and we had William Orbit's version of "Barber's Adagio for Strings" at the funeral - always makes this a tough listen and not played this one all the way through in many years. Lovely, though.

I was obsessed with "Ain't Talkin 'Bout Dub" - the second single from this album - when it came out. Based around a sample from Van Halen's Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love - it took me weeks to get hold of the 2nd version of the CD single (remember when bands used to do that?). So another one I haven't played all the way through in a while, but just as good as it always was.

I think most likely Barry doesn't like a woman with a weapon in her lap. But I had never noticed how grubby she is before you pointed it out! Or the possibility of an extra leg! But glad you enjoyed the music!

"Professional Widow" is, as you'd pointed out not like the dance version doing the rounds back then, but no less enjoyable, just different. All in all, the album's a winner for me :)

That isn't dirt, they are tattoos - thought it might be the design on her tights but you can see it carries on to her knee, past where her tights end.

You did put me onto that Caroline Lavelle album before, I think - I said I had never heard of her then realised she sings on some tracks by Sleepthief - an artist I love!

The image is not clear enough for me to see one way or the other. Anyway aren't tights designed to cover the feet, go up the legs and end at the waist? Are there tights which have a pattern on the lower legs only and stopping at the knees?
Being a bit of an obsessive, I 'Googled' it, and all reviews of 'Boys for Pele' state that it is dirt on her legs on the cover photograph. The image is supposed to show Tori Amos as a 'dust bowl' period farmer; however to be accurate it should be a shotgun on her lap and not a rifle with a telescopic sight.

I got into All Them Witches with Nothing As The Ideal. Blown away. I reckon that if we were back in the '70s they'd be huge. I guess it's a sign of how rock music is no longer so significant that they struggle to reach the fringes of the album charts here or in the US.

Album that I'm buying (Nick Mason, Echoes Live) appears to be vinyl or download only, so it's not just the more obscure artists. Streaming option has Dolby Atmos, which should be interesting for anyone set up that way.

Had a poke round Wikipedia this morning, where I read that her brother Rollo (founding member of Faithless) co-wrote and co-produced much of her first three albums. So there's that. I think I may have been avoiding her albums because they are so numerous at the car boot sales and charity shops (only beaten by Robbie Williams) which sort of devalued them in my mind.
I see also she provided vocals for 'Feels like Fire', from Santana's 2002 album 'Shaman'. Turns out that album is on my shelves, but I have no memory of playing it :doh: I should stop buying CDs and give more attention to what is already here.

That's exactly what I did in 2025 with my records, mainly only buying to replace worn or to fill gaps. I wouldn't know where to start with CD's, as there are so many and I rarely play any of them.

Similar with me Mike, this last 24 months or so. Though I do play CDs often, largely out of laziness.
You know, in my teens I only had 40 or so records, and I knew them all inside out and back to front. Because they were played so often. We all know that often the best, most enduring titles in our collections didn't immediately impress, but were 'slow growers'. Fast forward 50 years, and I no longer have the patience or the time to stick with something that doesn't immediately impress.
As I get older, I feel like each listening session forms an ever-increasing percentage of the time I have left, and I think this influences my choices. :eek: God, someone stop me, I'm depressing myself! In truth, a lot of it is that Anita isn't a big fan of much of my music choices, and is more for films/TV, so most of my listening happens when she is out of the house :)
I know headphones could be the answer, but I just can't be doing with them.
