That album art looks like it should mean something, but I can't for the life of me think what that might be.

Of that I have no doubt. It's just the album cover that puzzled me.

It is, never understood why it was criticised so much. Okay it wasn't like the first one; but we still have the first one, not like it got replaced by this.
Didn't think it was Steve's sort of thing though. Must be them new speekaz!

You're sort of right there. I bought it only a couple of years ago - my mate was bangin' on about preferring it to their debut, so I bagged a copy. And didn't think much of it.
But I found that the KEFs are doing a great job of making genres other than my usual sound great. So I'm working through some albums I hadn't really got on with before.
I don't think it's better than their debut (which I bought on vinyl upon its release you'll be shocked to know), just different.

I just ended up finding an album called “Big Sur Drift (Ocean)” by Ebb. Turns out it is literally 9 tracks (32 minutes and 28 seconds) of recordings of the sea. What I was actually looking for needed an extra “b” on their name. (And I did actually listen to all of Ebb, hoping something interesting might happen - to save your pain, it didn’t…)

Very interesting debut this one, hard to categorise, dance in places but with indie styles and some nice vocal harmonies. I liked it a lot, so will get more plays for sure.
By the way, I always read the Norman Records round up on the weekly releases - always nicely written, and sorts the wheat from the chaff as far as I am concerned. Their album reviews are generally very accurate. Also worth signing up to their emails, too, as they are very informative if not a bit too frequent.

It's exactly as it says on the tin Barry, a collection of mid 60's to early 70's Psychedelic Classic tunes. It is well curated and actually very good.
Great Daft Punk album there, Martin. Probably their most accessible.

I've just had a penny drop moment.
The other day (back on page 470) I was listening to Sneaker Pimps 'Splinter', the album they made after falling out with the female singer on their successful first album and so their male guitarist took over. Anyway, reading further about it at the weekend I discovered that they demo'd tracks for 'Splinter' with another female singer but decided not to go ahead with her...Emiliana Torrini.
Maybe this was well known, but I've just stumbled across it.

I won "The Only Way" by Lisa Stansfield on 7" single in 1982, with a load of other crap given to me by Keith Chegwin and Maggie Philbin at the ABC in Norwich, when they did some sort of Swap Shop live show and I ended up on stage. 13 year old me fell in love with her (Lisa Stansfield, and Maggie Philbin come to think of it!) I still have the record, in the garage.
It's a catchy synth-pop number, several years before she made it big.
https://youtu.be/zmcr3MggfWU
Noel Edmonds must have been there too, because I remember their "band", Brown Sauce performing "I Wanna be a Winner". I think I got a free copy of that too, but I don't remember it at all, unlike Lisa's song. :)

strange band, I think their studio albums are really patchy but they were killer live.
I'm inclined to agree, they are patchy so one has to be selective. On this double LP the live performance is better than the studio recording: the oddities are those of Ginger Baker.

I have this one, but it is just the studio one. It's ok, but not played it in years. Take your point about Ginger Baker: my mate used to say that it often sounded like he was drumming to a different song to the one the band was playing.

I used to have one of hers in the late 90s, "Baduism" it was called. My daughter "borrowed" it and I never got it back. Looking on the Amazon, it's going for around 25 quid, and their user reviews are awash with "Bootleg! Do not buy!"
Going off memory, this one's probably on similar lines:

I have 7 of her albums, but usually these 2 I play….
99.9F° from 1992 has “When Heroes Go Down” which is one of my favourite tracks of hers, but as an album is much less folk than her first 3, with a more electronic feel. If you can get it cheap it could be worth a punt.
In fact, I’ll play it now!

That's a tough one. I have most of her early output, but it's difficult to think of my favourites. You could try: 'Days of Open Hand'; '99.9 F°', and 'Nine Objects of Desire'.
I'm away from home, and hence my CD collection at the moment. Leave it with me, I'll be home on Saturday so will get back to you then.
Prior to this, I’ve been on a bit of a Röyksopp kick, played their first 2, then this one from last year:
Röyksopp - True Electric (2025)
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20260716/055b1e53e999c35a78c5b268a645e223.jpg
Mainly remixed versions of earlier works that they played on the True Electric tour. It’s a little odd, because the CD version is either mixed as if live, or you can get a version unmixed, but appears to be the same versions. Either way, it’s great!

In the end, it wasn't - inevitably they didn't stop making music or releasing albums! But at the time it seemed like it, and there are definite melancholic tunes on here but a fabulous album, nonetheless - especially "Running to the Sea" with fellow Norwegian Susanne Sundfør which is just brilliant in my opinion.

I did not know that. I was thinking of The Byrds.
Maybe I'm doing Mr Dylan a disservice - I'm not saying his original versions are bad, just that so many artists choosing to do covers of his songs must be testament to the quality of his songwriting, and their versions become the ones Joe Public becomes familiar with.

Not sure I would include that Guns & Roses. The band did ok, but I remember thinking when it was released, Oh dear Axl, too much drugs... the only way he could have made it worse would be to duet with Mariah Carey.

According to Wikipedia, at least 600 artists have had a go at covers of Dylan songs over the years. There is ample scope for this because Dylan has a poor singing voice. However his genius lays in the poetry of his lyrics, and as long as that is understood and respected, then there is ample opportunity for others to make decent fist of a cover.
For me the most obvious example is Hendrix's version of 'All Along the Watchtower'. As for other covers, we'll there is the Byrds's efforts, and of cour⁸se Joan Baez with her LP of Dylan covers: 'Any Day Now'. :)

As an aside, to celebrate Dylan's 80th birthday Rolling Stone magazine compiled a list of the top 80 covers of his songs:

In an attempt to answer Steve's question about what new Suzanne Vega disc to buy next, I've been working my way through her early catalogue. So to start:
Suzanne Vega - 'Suzanne Vega'
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61aXET+n+ZL._AC_SX679_.jpg
Her debut album and certainly different from a lot of girly warblers in the imagination of her songs. Quite folky in style, without souding as such.
Now on to here second LP:
Suzanne Vega - 'Solitude Sounding'
https://uk.rarevinyl.com/cdn/shop/files/suzanne-vega-solitude-standing-uk-vinyl-lp-album-record-suzlp2-690461_bd742d1e-2773-4fa6-b70d-df13f0e38e20.jpg?v=1736241102&width=760
Often an artist's second LP fails to live up to the originality and freshness of their debut. Not so with 'Solitude Standing' - in some ways, IMO, it surpasses her first. The subject matter of the songs are even more imaginative and the instrumentation more sophisticated.

By now Suzanne Vega has settled in and her LPs are starting to have a definite theme. In this case, the theme is of dreams, chance, fortune telling and divination: the tarot; palmistry; ceromancy, etc.. it is quite a dark LP with references to madness and psychiatric hospitals. Not an LP I play very often!
Suzanne Vega - '99.9Fo'
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/SkQAAeSwSz5qH63t/s-l960.webp
More pop and rock than her previous LPs. This time the theme is human relations expressed through aspects of the human body; its physiognomy. Feelings and desires are sung about using the metaphors of blood and of medical fantasies. All sounds a bit "odd", but it's not really - her lyrics just make you want to listen carefully.
By no means morbid, this LP is quite upbeat, 'bouncy' and at times quite danceable. It's one of my favourite Suzanne Vega LPs.

Much like its predecessor, 'Nine Objects of Desire' integrates experimental instrumentation and arrangements into Vega's signature sound. Elements of jazz are present on tracks such as "Caramel" and "Tombstone". Lyrically, the album takes a more personal turn in comparison to Vega's other albums, forgoing character pieces and instead taking heavy inspiration from her personal life.

Ok, so I've just ordered this one, £3.42 off the Music Magpie, I'm sure it'll be worth it :) Should be here by Friday. I'll pass on the one previous to this, and circle back to it at some point if the completist bug gets me.

Suzanne Vega - 'Songs in Red and Gray'
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/HuwAAOSwSW9hdbPT/s-l1600.webp
On 'Songs in Red and Gray', Suzanne Vega returns to her signature acoustic folk-pop sound, shedding the experiments she had done in the 1990s with her husband, record producer Mitchell Froom. New producer Rupert Hine shows some traces of his past work with '80s new wave bands by employing electronic beats, but mostly allows Vega's voice and guitar to dominate in a manner reminiscent of her debut album and its 1987 follow-up, 'Solitude Standing'.
Most of the songs, like "Widow's Walk" and "If I Were a Weapon", deal with the dissolution of Vega's marriage with Froom. Her calm, hushed, and clear singing belies the album's mood of heartbroken defiance. The lyrics are said to be the most personally revealing songs she has written in her career.'

It's epic. There's something about the sound of '80s synthesisers, no wonder they're worth so much now.

That's nearly as bad as me buying CDs I already have. Which reminds me, do you like Alexander O'Neil's "Hearsay"? I don't even remember buying it once, let alone twice  One of Anita's picks.
