I don't like the way those type of machines are made. That's why I wouldn't buy one. Too complicated and hard to fix yourself.
However, with dread at the controls, they probably are quite capable.
And also one look at a Rocket setup and it's lurve at first sight. Decent Italian design, acres of chrome etc. Even the inside uses a nice amount of copper.
Kwality.
BTW my sister bought a Sage all in one for Christmas. But with Corona it'll be yonks before I get to play with it.

Just extracted my 1st of the day :)
 I usually have a couple of coffees first
Yeah, he's had his morning chug and 'extracted' some full-cream man's milk for his coffee. Let's hope there's no 'floaters' on the top:D

Marco likes a extraction with extra cream :)
Using the new beans in the mix.. Quite good.

excellent as a filler these. nice and creamy italian style bean. small dark and oily beans these. not a bad price too. dont think i would use on own but i bet you'd get a lot of creama
will double recommend these as fillers.. really creamy flavour they add to my usual beans, and a bit extra, both crema and colour.
about £12.50 and free next day del via Amazon for a kilo.
Site is quiet today...
Here is some wake up juice.

Noted, mate. Nice one, although I'm rather enjoying the beans from the Welsh Coffee Company 'au naturel', such is their extremely high quality. You should give them a go for a wee change, instead of Wogan, for your next 'proper' coffee order:)
I do agree though that a touch of Arabica or Robusta aids the production of crema.
Marco.

I treated myself to a new Lelit Bianca espresso machine! Marco, please note that it's 'Lelit' and not 'Lilet'! It weighs a ton, is beautifully made, and is rather good, pictured here with a Eureka Mignon grinder.
For the coffee geeks, the Bianca has dual boilers, each with electronic temperature control, a quiet rotary pump, and a proper E61 grouphead with pressure profiling paddle.
Fantastic service from Bella Barista in Wellingborough, who also supplied the Eureka grinder a little while back.
And, yes, it does make beautiful coffee, with really great body and texture.

impressive machine. :)
It certainly is! You do sometimes get what you pay for, and this machine is fantastic.

its got a great spec. not cheap mind but it was on my wanted list if i came into money.
Very nice, Hugo! :respect:
So, just out of curiosity, how much did that set you back?:) These machines are great, as long as the primary reason they were purchased was for a true coffee aficionado/perfectionist to optimise the machine's potential for making truly magnificent espresso, rather than simply being a pretty ornament in the kitchen, and the owner not having much clue how to use it!;)
Knowing you, I doubt that'll be the case, but often it is, and I simply cannot fathom that mentality:doh:
Anyway, let's see a nice shot poured and what the crema's like!

Cost? See here https://www.bellabarista.co.uk/lelit-bianca-dual-boiler-paddle-pl162t.html . Not cheap, but some £400 less than the closest dual boiler machine from Rocket, and half the price of the baby La Marzocco which has the same pressure profiling control as the Lelit Bianca. It could only come from a quality Italian maker, and the understated use of walnut for the controls is lovely. I really don't know how they do it for the money, given that the price includes VAT, shipping and the retailer's margin.
Crema (with the right beans) is amazing, but also the texture and taste of the coffee, which for me is most important. The pressure profiling paddle does look like a gimmick, but it does enable me to rescue what might otherwise be a wasted shot, when grind size etc are not quite spot-on. The Bianca really is a delight to use, and so quiet after machines with vibratory pumps.
I'll try to get a photo of a shot in the next day or so.

Here's a shot I pulled earlier today
https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/P1000610.jpg
Nice shot. Plenty crema. I don't really drink enough to warrant a machine that good.
Thought I'd show how nice the crema is on these new beans, even at only about 20% max usage.

One of Wogan's cheapest.
What is wrong with these guys? Even right at the bottom end they seem incapable of supplying shite:)

Next order will be for Bella as they seem to be on a huge organic thang with big claims for taste.
According to them coffee is one of the most sprayed crops in the world.

which one is that?https://wogancoffee.com/product/amharic/
Is it as good as their single origin, more expensive efforts?
No. But it certainly tastes as described, and it produces a lot of crema. I drank 250g over a few days and it was pretty good. Better than 90% of stuff available in supermarkets I reckon.
This is better:

As all “non-essential” shops are closed, I have had to Mail order some coffee.
I bought some of this https://www.pellinicaffe.com/en/products/pellini-espresso-bar-in-grains-n-82-vivace/ and I am quite enjoying it. It is very good.
What are considered essential shops in France?
Supermarkets, pharmacies etc.
Small local cafes which roast coffee are not essential.
The issue is that not many supermarkets carry decent coffee grain in the local area.
Every day is different.

Marco.Nice cup too. Does it have a handle?
Cheers, mate. Nope, but you don't need one, as the ribbed edges provide sufficient grip:)
Also, that one was made with a sachet (it works with thin shreds of chocolate) of 50% cocoa. The nicer one, which I have a tub of (shown in the background) is the 70% stuff, which is less sweet and also darker in colour.
However, the results are excellent, and of course you can add some squirty cream and/or marshmallows, or whatever... Highly recommended!
Marco.
mine comes in tubs too. its flaked i guess.. the wand of the espresso does it in a minute really. ive 2.. 43% which is sweeter and a dark which is 53%. i mix them. yours in the velveteer is a smoother top tho
Today's effort.

Yeah, that's what I found about it, when Del and I were in Liverpool recently and had a (superb) hot chocolate in the branch there of Hotel Chocolat - the lovely smooth 'velvety' top:)
Yours is good, but like mine when I was doing it before, comes too 'bubbly' on top, the same as what we wish to avoid with our coffees... And with the Velvetiser, the chocolate stays smooth and creamy all the way to the bottom of the cup.
Also, the quality of the hot chocolate flakes themselves is (for me) second to none, and they do some great flavours - check them out: https://www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/shop/collections/products/hot-chocolate/
I also like having a dedicated machine, just for doing hot chocolate, and one designed to optimise the results:cool:

have to say ive not tried one from a velveteer, so cant say but it looked lovely. a lot of money for me as i dont have many. then there is the cleaning
It's piss-easy to clean, mate.
Just whip out the detachable 'frother', give it a rinse under a hot tap, do the same with the inside of the main machine (which is a sealed unit), then a wipe with a bit of kitchen roll, and you're done - although it's best to clean it straight after using it, before the chocolate residue hardens and become more difficult to remove later.
Maybe just try some of their flakes when yours runs out? They're delicious!:)
Trouble is now, the princess has got used to them, so it's another thing she WANTS, either waiting for her when she gets in from work, or just when the mood takes her! Then I have to 'prettify' it with squirty cream, sprinkles and pink marshmallows..
Can you hear her? Listen... 'WANT a hot chocolate - NOW!!':D
Marco.
I know... And she frequently gets it - and LIKES it!

Fantastic gadget! We’ve had one for a couple of years now (the copper coloured one) and it’s brilliant.
Have you tried a Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate with a decent glug of Chambord yet?!
The raspberry liqueur?
You rate that combo, then? With which chocolate? Oh, and what's your fav flavour of HC chocolate?:)
Yeah, it's a great little thing, and built very well too, by Dualit - same as our toaster!:D

Right, sorry Marco - hectic day yesterday!
Yes, Chambord is the black raspberry liqueur which is just wonderful stuff. Remember that if you come across it in a cocktail recipe, the quantity suggested will never be enough – always double it! Also, supermarkets only seem to sell it in stupid 37.5cl bottles which is ridiculous. You have to go online (or to Costco) to get it in 70cl bottles.
As to the Hotel Chocolat flavours, I think you can’t really beat the Classic 70% and the Hazelnut. The Salted Caramel is also good but is more of an occasional fancy rather than something I’d drink regularly. When it comes to hot chocolate, I always think simple is best, but the dark ones are just a touch too bitter for my liking.
Wed to my coffeehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210519/a27f05a6c9e8c3a00490c6d792997a07.jpg

Thanks for that, Adam, and noted on the Chambord. I've got some, but never thought of putting in hot chocolate, so I'll give it a go and let you know what I think:)
I agree with you about the best flavours, although I was rather taken by the mint (as I've always liked mint in chocolate, with After Eight mints and such like), but haven't tasted the Hazelnut, which I suspect I'd also like.
However, yes the Velvetiser is a great little device and without doubt a valued addition to my 'bar/drinks area' in the kitchen - the only bit Del will allow me to be in charge of!:D

well, second fav.. sure they look great on a princess. choccy was super. after steaming it i extra whipped it uo with my electric milk whisker.. (little thing) it increased the thickness and smoothness by a way.. very similar now to a velvetier

Just given my Delonghi Dedica EC680 a clean and it is working beautifully again.
I hadn't realised how dirty the filter had got  it's a double wall pressurised set up, loads of coffee oils trapped in there.
While looking up the cleaning process on the internet, I found several videos about adapting the portafilter to unpressurised/naked. I don't fancy attacking the current one with a hacksaw, but found several adverts on Amazon for unpressurised filters which are sold as complete units.
It is only an experiment for me, so I don't want to spend more than £30 - any recommendations/experience?
It would need to be a 51mm cage and I am a little suspicious of some of the Chinese articles which are on offer (references to the holes not being particularly well made/spaced).
I guess that I could buy a Delonghi spare portafilter and hacksaw the old one (which could be a cheap option)?
i got a naked off amazon and just used same single walled basket i had but some sellers sell them with baskets.. you need to know the portafilter size tho or model number.

very nice... what, no toast :eyebrows:
Lol, thanks... No, toast (with decent sliced bread from the Polish shop) was only an option when we couldn't find a good crusty loaf/baguette or similar, locally.
However, if you go early enough we've found that we can get the crusty baguette we like in Sainsbury's, so have been making trips there every 2 days (as a whole one lasts us a couple of days) in the morning to get it, as it's only 5 mins away in the car:)
Toast is really a British thing, mate. No-one really eats it on the continent, where my palate has been honed, lol..
Marco.
i like a really thick slice of say cob lightly toasted so its still soft.. have to turn it round half way in toaster but it works fine. adds flavour and mouthfeel for me.
Yeah, sure. I get that. For me though, I like a really nice thick, crunchy crust, as that's where most of the flavour is, coupled with a lovely soft inner white.
A traditional ciabatta loaf is really what I'd like (such as shown below), but there are no decent delis round here. It's about the only thing that's lacking, TBH.

Cheers Grant,
just tried my "open bottom" hasn't got any more crema than I am used to (although, I think that I need to play around with the grind and pressure of tamping - some channeling was evident) But definitely better flavour and less bitter.
Do I get a prize for the number of possible double entendres for Marco to have fun with
good.. try mixing some of these in with your beans.. lots of crema.. maybe add 15%

its a kilo bag but you can always freeze some. i keep all mine in bottom of fridge lol
also make sure as the grind goes in that you keep it even in bottom half etc. i use an eq of back end of a teaspoon to make sure all the grinds are equal.
also if its running fast then maybe grind smaller , or bigger if its too slow.
Could we see some pics of your efforts?:)
Marco.
I will try, but put off so far by the thought of looking stupid in such experienced company (no sarcasm intended - truly in awe of Grant's art work :youtheman:)

You're not going to look stupid. We're not here to judge, only to help, and as they say: a picture is worth 1000 words, so if there are any areas of improvement needed, a pic will help:)

That's different, mate. Rather like it!:)
Here's a 'wee spurt' I enjoyed earlier... Optimised the grind a little on the Lido (made it a little finer), and it seems to have paid off:

Really nice crema, plus I'm getting a little better at frothing the milk, too!
Marco.
Yeah, that's what I thought. I was curious as to how you'd judge it...
With some experience now, I'm really happy with the results I'm getting out of the 'budget' Smeg:)
Marco.
