Marco.
Yes a very different flavour profile to machine coffee. Smoother, and allows some more subtleness / bean notes through due to lower bitterness. This is why a lot of roasters and enthusiasts test beans with a V60, no ‘machine taste’.
I do love a good Espresso or Cortado through, where a quality machine is essential.

We were in Waitrose this morning picking up a few last minute bits [for a fondue we're having on Xmas eve - remember those?:D] and decided to treat myself to an almond croissant, which I had with a creamy latte, this time, rather than a cappuccino:

expensive, probably due to being italian
Yup, so just want to see if they're worth it, as I've just about finished the top-notch (Bei e Nannini) espresso beans I bought during my summer hols in Italy, and don't wish to downgrade!;)
Will be mixing them (although trying them on their own first, to assess their own flavour) with these new Guatemalan beans from Poblado: https://pobladocoffi.co.uk/collections/americas/products/guatemala-finca-la-bolsa?variant=28545204093008

Lol - I meant just as you've taken the pic, before you've drank the coffee... Don't you check to see how the image looks on a screen first before posting it? I usually end up taking quite a few before I'm happy with the results:)
Marco.
depends but obviously not those ones. probably too keen to drink it
Lol. understandable:eyebrows:
Marco.
I'm preparing myself for the barrage of hate but here goes anyway :eyebrows:. My sister bought me a Dulce Gusto pod machine for Christmas. I can't drink too much coffee due to digestion problems but I still enjoy a cup now and then. I'm pleasantly surprised how nice the results from the little machine are, really good, fully rounded drinks. Now I know these pods are a pricy way to have a coffee but as my consumption isn't that much it's fine plus there is quite a large choice of coffees and other drinks available. Also I've found a reusable pod you can put your own blends in, not tried it but could be a way expand the machine's uses.
Not for the real coffee oficionado but not bad at what it does.
nowt intrinsically wrong with them. especally if its for occasional use. daughter has one of those
I'm preparing myself for the barrage of hate but here goes anyway :eyebrows:
Ya tasteless lazy big bugger!:ner:;)
I'm afraid that's as good as the "barrage of hate" will get... Ian, it's all about whatever works for you in your circumstances, so if the DG's doing it for you, then cool (I started with the same), and please post pics of some of your coffees:cool:
The only thing I have against pods is their use of plastic, but if you don't use them that often then it's ok. If you have time on your hands though, I'd thoroughly recommend a Moka pot, such as I use. These cost around £30 and can produce coffee just as good in flavour as expensive professional machines, especially if you grind your own beans.
Then simply get a milk frother (and hand-grinder), for around the same amount, if you want to make lattes or cappuccinos, and once you've tasted the results of that (and coffee made from freshly ground beans), you'll never go back to pods, trust me!
And if you need any reccos on pots, grinders or frothers, or how best to use a Moka pot, I'm here to help:)
Marco.
I have got a Greek briki for making Greek and Turkish coffee. I really love this type of coffee but it does cause me problems if I have it too often. I have a bit of a thing for Greek drinks, 5 star Metaxa is a real favourite, much nicer than the posh 7 star. I got VERY drunk on Ouzo one night and even now I'm not too keen on anything aniseed lol.
I also love Greek and Turkish coffee, but only in Greek or Turkish restaurants:)
Dunno how to use a Briki though, or whether it'd be any good for making espresso-style coffee. The secret though, is to consume *everything* in moderation, so that includes strong coffee as well as booze!;)

I got VERY drunk on Ouzo one night and even now I'm not too keen on anything aniseed lol.
Ah yes, aniseed. I remember the beginning of a certain night in Greece 20 years ago on a holiday with 15 friends. At about 10 pm I was lying on the balcony of a mate’s room with him pouring Raki into my mouth from a teapot. The rest of the evening and most of the next day is completely missing from my memory bank!
It was a good five years before I could drink anything aniseed-flavoured again...
remember an old girlfriend/ well a bit more than that really, who used to drink Arak. Vile stuff

Marco.
Having to use Semi skimmed so your inclined to get too much;)
Ah, I thought something was different...
You should get your milk delivered, fresh from a local dairy, as I do. There must be ones near you who'll deliver to your door. Then your coffee really will be world class!:)
Marco.
I need lactose free... for some reason the makers seem to have stopped full fat as all shops are out of it.. Not sure why tho.
Ah I see... Some dairies are doing soya milk delivered now, would that be ok for you?
Marco.
Ah I see... Some dairy's are doing soya milk delivered now, would that be ok for you?
Marco.
yuk, its not as nice as lactose free.. it tastes like normal milk, just doesnt have the lactose that makes you ill. Im gona get to bottom of this :D
Ah ok... I wouldn't know, as I've only ever used normal milk, either semi-skimmed or whole. The whole stuff from the dairy is just fab. Now I've got used to it, I can't stand coffee made with the supermarket stuff!:eyebrows:
Marco.
Here you go, mate. These guys, based in Shotts, deliver to Bathgate: https://www.thomsondairies.com/
And not just milk either!:)
Never be without a pint of the good stuff again...

Don't do lactose free tho.
Maybe if you contacted them?
Anyway, this is worth watching (The Secret Power of Coffee): https://www.itv.com/thismorning/food/the-secret-power-of-coffee

Did you watch the video on the potential health benefits of coffee?
Marco.
Can Improve Energy Levels and Make You Smarter. ...Can Help You Burn Fat. ...Can Drastically Improve Physical Performance. ...Contains Essential Nutrients. ...May Lower Your Risk of Type 2 Diabetes. ...May Protect You From Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. ...May Lower Your Risk of Parkinson's.
the key words are can and may... But yes it is, in moderation, very good to drink imo...
Indeed, but problem is... Only BLACK! Apparently, even the slightest bit of milk negates pretty much all of the benefits of the coffee beans:doh:
Marco.
Guessing it may be a bit iffy of an idea then
Not sure why a drop of milk would do that.
Anyway, health benefit ot not I will continue to have my 1 or 2 a day.
Apparently the proteins in milk bind to the flavonols in coffee, which dilute its inherent antitoxin effects. So if you wish to experience the health benefits of drinking coffee, the less milk, the better, and preferably none.
That's my 'bucket-sized' morning cup of cappuccino out the window then!:D
Marco.
Wot? No coffee picture this morning? Don't tell me that's put you off!;)
Marco/
Anybody used coffee masters beans?
Hi Kevin,
Yup, the beans are pretty good and the company offers efficient service, but their roasting dates tend to be a little old and not as recent (and therefore the beans as fresh) as those of other suppliers. No doubt Grant or Justin will be able to give you some good reccos.
I generally like to use local suppliers who roast regularly in-house, so I know that the beans are as fresh as possible and don't havre to travel far, then stick with them when I find a favourite. In that respect, I use Poblado Coffi, who are based in Snowdonia: https://pobladocoffi.co.uk/
Their beans really are top notch and they ship worldwide:)
Surely though, there must be some good suppliers local to you in France?
Marco.
the Poblado Coffi are good. mostly using wogan at moment, but will be getting more when i need some.

There are a few local places, but the results are not consistent. I think they do a batch, then wait till it is sold before doing another.
I am still trying to find a decent one that I can count on. Most of my beans come from Bordeaux, from Maxicoffee.
Coffee Masters are available on Amazon, at a good price, hence the question.
They get good reviews from a lot of people, so it may be worth a punt.
Defo worth a punt. I've used them a few times and have no real complaints, but you can do better elsewhere. If you scroll back through the thread you'll see both Grant and Justin recommending coffee suppliers, all of which I suspect will be a level ahead of Coffee Masters.
Marco.
Wogan, there you go: https://wogancoffee.com/
Marco.
coffeemasters is ok as a filler etc for espresso but i didnt think it very good. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000LY7E1S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Segafredo is better, but i use it as a filler with a lighter wogan usually

No worries... Some beans I'm due to crack open soon, also available from Amazon, are these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001RTIGUE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
In terms of the price, remember it's a 1000g bag!
Gets great reviews, so as soon as I finish my other 'mixer beans', probably in a couple of days, I'll be trying them:)
Marco.
another bean i intend to try out as a mixer mostly will be Cafe Royale. they do a few different ones... Swiss

Good stuff, mate. Hope you recover fully soon. Colds and flus are rife just now, with folks falling down like flies, but so far I've missed any of it; indeed I've not had anything like that for nearly 3 years, even when Del's brought it in from college.

Good glint in the milkman eye.
The milk has joined to an extent with the crema, giving you some thick stuff.
Nah the milk has remained separate. It's a thick gloop. What's happened is it has pushed all the crema to the perimeter, making it thicker than normal.

A) Because I *LOVE* the retro looks, and it's compact [crucial, as it needs to fit in a certain space] and superbly built.
B) Because it's simple/stupid to use, and said by many to make great coffee.
C) I don't want to spend any more than £300 on an espresso machine, and don't want anything full of complicated computer bollox.
Marco.
youll get a sage like mine for that money

Good stuff, Gaz. Hope you love it. I simply wouldn't spend that amount on an espresso machine, especially given the results I can get from a £30 Moka pot!;) And I'm not short of time to make coffee. Plus, something like that is way too big to fit on our worktops.
Enjoy, though!

Love my Mokka pot...makes a great brew.
Just looking to get something nicer and a bit more automated for the kitchen.

Yups, I'll bear it in mind, as I know it's a good machine, capable of superb results!
However, if the Smeg makes good enough coffee for me (and the reviews suggest such), then I'd prefer having something standout/stylish in the kitchen, to match our red Dualit toaster... You know what my kitchen's like, so whatever appliances are in there need to look right, as well as perform well:)
If we'd had the room, I'd love to have gone for classic Smeg fridge, too!
Marco.

Totally get that, mate. Plus, you don't have time in the mornings to faff about like I do, hand-grinding beans and so forth!
Marco.
Smeg might be fine but not seen one used.
Gaz one is pretty much high level, and a lot of wonga.
Type of machine I would aspire to if younger

Indeed, but if it doesn't hit the mark, at least I've only spent £300... Plus, with the name it'd be easy to move on without too much of a loss. I doubt I'll be disappointed, though. No hurry however, as Del's going to get it for my birthday!
Not sure I'm enough of a coffee aficionado/gadget freak to ever consider the sort of machine Gaz is going for. We're all different:)

Admittedly a gadget freak and happily in a position to indulge my passions, though absolutely I know the value in enjoying what you have.

I've seen those machines on the Web. Look good
Bit of fun. Like the idea of exploring variable pressure. Hard but enjoyable work, though.
Cool looking thing and well made. Not sure I could be arsed with the faff, though. However I can see the attraction:)
Marco.
Returning to the Smeg, this is typical of the many online reviews, and pretty much sums up why I'm going to get one:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/921/ItnzKv.png
It seems that the only downside is that the milk frother isn't the best (well at the price it sells for, considering the machine's superb build quality, the cost-cutting has to occur somewhere), but that's cool, as I'll be keeping my current frother and using the Smeg in conjunction with that.
Aside from looks, for me, I just want something simple (non-tweaky), piss-easy to use, and which produces consistently great results! Red Dwarf? That's kinda cool, too...

Tis in the new gaff. Took that shot a good few weeks ago.
I just looked up the price about 2 hours ago and it made me smile. I don't think I would pay it personally but hey it is in there.
No gas out here, so having to adjust to a convection hob - would still prefer gas, but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. It came with the house and is also a Smeg - seems good quality, would definitely buy again. If only just to snigger at the name. [emoji16]

What is the still you mentioned Grant ?
Distiller is for drinking water. I use a magnesium filter for coffee. No point in spending good money on coffee and not taking care of the water too. its a fair chunk of it and helps with extraction.

do you have a link to the machine ? does it remove limescale ?
I use a BWT water filter jug for that.

do you have a link to the machine ? does it remove limescale ?
BRITA water filters can remove limescale. not sure the bwt does.... a distiller will. could distill it then mag it but its a lot of work.. the carbon filters mostly remove limescale and such. with your usage you could get one fitted to your tap
