Yes super glue to the rescue and adjuster rod straightened so working again , still in the dialing in the bean grind as this grinder does sutch fine adjustments , Currently the grind is now to fine and I am working my way backwards , As the puck is waterlogged and needing just under 10 bar pressure to get and water through it :eek:
Tried this morning at 4am but DOH!!! the milk was off and curdled :(
Out soon for fresh milk well as fresh as it is in the blue big 4 supermarket9/10bar is fine. If Puck is too fine or tamped too hard it can trickle and Puck will get waterlogged. Try the grind a fair bit rougher

My guess is it is quite different to what you have been drinking. Took me a while before I really latched into it. See what you think after a few cups but I rate it highly.

Yup, less milk too. You can foam it as usual tho and just skim off the top foam as its really the middle section you want.

Portafilter basket question ?
Is there a std size mesh ?
should be the same on good machines. if your getting clogging then your grinding too fine. too fine and it becomes a turkish grind and wont work in an espresso.
also the better baskets have more uniform hole sizes. so its worth getting good baskets rather than cheaping out. but ecm ones will be fine

I have 3 baskets that look slightly different , I assume 2 are for either a double shot or single shot as one fits imside the other halving the anount of coffee it will hold , and a std one that holds enough for one drink
you get doubles and singles plus you get pressurised and non pressurised. the pressurised are double walled and are fairly obviously different. you probably dont have any.
Other kind you can get , but are non standard are naked ones, but dont come with a machine. But holes on a single and double will be same size
Ps.. They don't fit inside each other.

a bit pale.. are you putting a load of milk in? or is your extraction wrong.. show us your shot without milk in. might give an idea, plus a pic of the baskets. TBH you shouldnt be fitting 2 baskets together. it will screw up the pressure thus then extraction.

Grant , What weight of beans for the big basket or time of grind ?
time will depend to an extent on the grinder. mine is about 14 secs... usually something like 20 grams give or take 20% .. some vary on size and some folk overfill them. there needs to be enough space left for expansion etc. usually leave 3mm gap or so.. maybe 4, but it depends .. often you can tell if its too full as you get a big imprint of the head screw etc... too shallow and the puck can get too wet

That's a shame, I'm currently using Rave Columbia Suarez which I am enjoying. I've not tried the El Carmen. I use a double shot in a mug with nearly half the mug being steamed milk and find it has plenty of flavour.

Then adjust the grind down until the machine begins to clog, and no coffee comes out. At that point, back the grinder off a couple of notches.
You should be aiming for a double shot in about 30 to 35 seconds.
You should be aiming for between a 40g to 80g shot in that time (brew ratio 1:2 to 1:4). I prefer 40g out for 20g coffee.

Out of interest, when is the last time you soaked your portafilters in something like pulycaff?
If the portafilter holes are blocked as well, it could lead to problems.
Brazilian Santos. Not as good as the Wogan Brazilian Peaberry by a distance. But still pretty good.

Santos espresso.
Nice as espresso - not very intense but easy, smooth and really quite pleasant.

Yeah it's fine it's just not a "mass producer". The Peaberry gives a lot more.
No bitter after taste. I think it does better as a relatively light tasting espresso. It hasn't the bite to cut through milk IMHO.

Still not convinced the beans I am using are up to much , Nearly all gone now , Also I like around 1/3 milk in the mix :)

Quite a rich tasting, darker roast. Which given its name is what I was expecting. It's definitely good coffee.

One thing I find helpful in dark conditions is having dimmable (individual) LED ceiling lights in the kitchen. Firstly, I like the type of 'clean' bright light they give [for me preferable to halogens], and secondly I can 'train' mine directly onto the subject being photographed, so that the image is very well lit, without needing to use a flash.
Not sure what kind of lighting you've got going on in your place, matey, but LED 'spots' defo help the quality of pictures you're able to take:cool:

I don't find Costa coffee unpleasant, not a fan of Starbucks coffee though.
Starbucks beans are over roasted cheap junk. If it's crap, burn it and perhaps they won't notice:D
Costa beans are better. A double shot is recommended as even medium lattes taste weak. More money, though.

I put the porta on and flush through into cup. cleans and heats both. then the cup goes under the steam/spout and its flushed as well. I do this every time its used.

New beans alert
At the top of my road is a caffe run by 2 Italian brothers , They have a full blown commercial coffee setup
I casually asked if they would sell me a bag of beans and they said yes £6.50 . I expected a 250grm bag but NO it was a 1 KG bag :eyebrows:

I resurrected my Moka pot recently and seem to be using that more than anything these days. Forgot how simple it was and how consistently good the results can be, especially with the grinder I have now.
2 i tried were both good. kenya peaberry, which i still have some of, and i slightly preferred the kenya aa.. im about to start on the honduras organic fairtrade.

Thanks Grant, as fortune would have it they're in Bristol 400m from the multi-storey I use for gigs. Looking at Google Maps, they're actually right next to where I wait if I get there too early (charges drop at 5pm to a set evening rate).

The Nicaraguan La Bastilla Natural from Wogan is for my taste the best coffee I have bought anywhere.
I liked it so much that I promptly ordered four more bags but sadly that batch wasn't a patch on the previous one. I'll get in touch with them about it as they are very helpful.

Just use one for a good few months and you will spot it. HasBean used to really piss me off sometimes. Great coffee, re-order and get a dud.
To be fair it is a natural and highly complex product. Standardisation occurs with mass production and technology. So by Illy or the like if that is your highest priority.
The other thing is if it tastes rubbish either blend it or leave it open for a week or two. It WILL change and a lot of the time oxidation is a positive thing I find.
Most change taste a bit with every brew.
So many variables.
Anyway I have 500g of it so I'll post here what I think in due course. Last batch I had was really bloody good towards the end of 500g after it had time to breath.

I'm not about to start buying Illy though. Perfectly happy to accept some variation in style / quality but not to this degree ideally.

Got the Amber El Salvador this morning.
It's not great. Not having much luck with coffee at the moment! :(Can tske a week or two to settle many coffees. Also some like different grinds etc. I leave mine usually for 2 week's to de gas and settle the flavour

For me, they're the nicest yet - they have a similar lovely flavour as the others, but deeper, darker and richer, slightly chocolatey. Lovely stuff!:)
