Yes , they can make a difference mate . Be careful when soldering them though . If you hold the soldering iron on too long you can damage the units with the heat .

Hi Brian. Hope Grant does not mind me littering his kit thread with a question to you.

I'm in need of about 24 speaker connectors (don't ask!) which are assured to have a tight lasting fit in the sockets. Not wanting to spend too much but reasonable quality. Happy to solder and heatshrink. Any recommendations?

cheers

Never figured those out. They seem to come in too far down the frequency range and have pretty low output. Won't do any harm though, with an impedance that high.

not sure where they come in geoff. i cant hear anything from them. Just feel the soundstage is slightly better and the overall presentation improved, but it could be imaginary

sounds as good as it looks  yup, mine has been getting added to of late but thats probably it for now. TT has improved since adding the project. quite a good unit, as youd expect as it wasnt cheap. It also gives me the flexibility i was after. Need to wait to buy software to do recordings etc tho. Think Vinyl Studio pro is advised by the makers. we shall see, tho i didnt just get it for that; in fact it was just an added luxury i may get into, as it can record in up to dsd 128 quality. probably need a huge hdd to hold it all tho

Fairly recently I picked up another set of wireless cans. Mainly to use with my phone as it does ldac which is fairly high bit rate.
Decided the second top in Sony range the n900 was the one, and in green was cheapest so went for them.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190421/002a39885983859c2acf45606839ff0c.jpg

was quite windy out back today so set the noise reduction to wind and it works well.. vast reduction in wind;)

For the money these are very good if you have a sony phone that does ldac especially. The green colour is only very slight tbh so you dont look like a prick:eyebrows:

Sound quality, although not at the level of the nuraphones, even at a lower bit rate, is extremely good and the signal is good too. boogie factor 9, and extremely comfortable too

Supra ZAC Fibre Optic Interconnect
ZAC stands for Zero Attenuation Concept. The innovative furbished curving of the optical fibre core tip to get a zero divergence loss enables plastic fibre optics to be used, and to achieve the same transmission quality as a glass fibre core in combination with the strength and flexibility of the plastic core.
also has high band width, garanteed for 32 bit/384 kHz! - Headroom for comming digital studio-like formats.
Metal ends too... Think They are about £45 per metre

yup, brian, still as before. dac has improved too .. whole thing is singing nicely now. Just need a new usb cable as i forgot the connection between pc and phono when recording. its just a basic thing and sure i can improve things.
Still learning about the recording software too. extremely powerful and yet not destructive at same time. anything done and saved can be turned back should you want. Very clever.

They beat the various 'silly money' power cables I used to use.

You can get them made up for any length (which is what I do)

... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mains-power-cable-Belden-19364-screened-16A-C19-silver-plated-mains-IEC-0-5mt/131994815355?hash=item1ebb810b7b:g:9rwAAOSwal5YHwk 4

Note: that link has a high current IEC connector. Ask them for whatever you need.

In the end it's the message, not the medium, in our world?
I had a 6 foot by 6 foot (ex-wine shop display) to hold my 1000-ish LPs, but now I sit in same space at the iMac listening viaitunes HDD into my Zigmahornets.
Don't miss the LPs at all. Can call up the music quickly, though, in these spotify days, that's quite usual now.
Enjoy the space.

You used my short name in your post (by mistake) hence me asking if you called. :)

LAN party - Local Area Network party - where a bunch of gamers gather together to play interactive games over high speed ethernet (= low latency). Cat 7 ethernet cables are ideal for this. Hence the question.

Sorry, I'll try not be so obscure in the future. :eyebrows:

So you use ethernet cable for speaker cable then? I must try that at some point. I've got loads of ethernet cable on a roll from a previous project.

no, i dont.. but if i move speakers i will need to move system, and the ethernet is on wrong end of room. so will need to run a connecting cable all way round and over the door. Reckon 20 m is enough. it either that or i have to run speaker cable or rca's.
think the ethernet will be cheapest and best solution Edward:)

Grant,
That was one of my design goals during the design and development of the speakers. When I completed the first pair I invited some of my wife's friends around and asked them what they thought. Surprisingly enough they all liked them and commented I would have a pair of those in my living room make a nice piece of furniture. My toughts being if you can get them approved by the woman of the house should be on to a winner.

Regards the spikes. As Gaza commented they are removable just 6mm threaded inserts in the base. I would recommend if you are removing these not to run the speakers on the bases but buy a set of these to replace the spikes: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adjustable-tilt-Levelling-feet-foot-M6x12mm-kitchen-desk-table-sink-prep-bench/283450544020?hash=item41fef80f94:m:mWUJQ9VHi9-0OFCMUcFeBLw I stopped using spikes a while ago for these.

Glad the Edingdales are giving you so much enjoyment. Long may they continue to do so.

Regards, Colin

So what can I say.. A very special speaker that proves my mantra. Fix the speakers out and the rest is easy.
Also having the tweeter adjustment and my power amp monos having ability to adjust each side means its easy to get perfect sound when not sure to both speakers.

Happy bunny

Speakers are the most serious choice you can make. The coming months and years will decide for you but I feel sure you'll keep them for a while;)

no, just a hdd. plug it into my laptop for storing my music. one im using is full. it can just end up a back up. I can always take some non essential music off it and store more as it will just be an extra backup.
6tb will last a long time. im unlikely to get that much music. I have another 6tb on my other laptop so they will be mirrors but attached to different pcs.
They can be written to from either laptop tho via ethernet

Walk though in pics for record ripping

1. Usb capable phono stage
2. Clean record
3. Find record info on discogs or input it manually.
4. Start recording. I use 24/96. Takes up a lot more room but imo it is better. You can set up the level output as we both on the unit or if you don't have one with vc u can do it in program I think.
Will add to it laterhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/f71d205adc5b8fc8dada6df81225f261.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/0d474a4b8ba3371a51bc6553041a5a7c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/f3d64ebb22328eb7a4995ec43f72cb9c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/ac9b62b91965ed9370c118452a4f6575.jpg

OK although the titles etc are there no track info or album art is there. You need to go find it.
Discogs again is in the program and hopefully will find it. 1,2&3.
4, and it's there.

5 and we are finished the recording and are into the edits section and track splits.
As you can see it's put splits in where the track info says they should be. This is usually out by a bit and continues to get out further each track due to spaces.

No matter we can easily move them. A pair of headphones for editing is really best. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/6d93016dcd131054017cf117ba5a1cad.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/9a55521c270b7e87e7d4212443af1b8b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/fb9c74e5b35afa6e2a2b9a3d162eb660.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/eba11e66bd0f964018e39d1e9a1120fa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/1ad130679ccdd0de59a7d6e6f24b09a6.jpg

Waveform at bottom has been enlarged with the + button. The shaded bit at beginning shows where I've deleted the needle down and run in.
All spaced correctly by adjusting position of flags via click n hold.
Second side done same although they are currently 2 sides here they follow on to each other.
Then comes click removal. I set mine quite low but still have the bass and treble protection on. Don't want to, say remove a cymbol etc.
Second side you see it found
2951 potentials, repairing 2487 and ignoring 408 percussion and 56 bass. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/b32e1f6feec2b263c6e8de710463c77b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/99520d0fea526f44e9a05567eef6dda6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/3544c75c44d8e32fb645e0b41673702d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/b5d265cd14ebd7a2d1d83f7b2e6f9f5f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/8052d9442044e179f8cffdbc6e06f089.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/bf3119265eea33adacaf441ae1bb09a4.jpg

Noise hiss is always an issue here so we shall remove most of it.
In 1 you see a yellow vertical band I put in on a silent part to highlight the extra noise.
That will now be removed from whole side of recording.
You need to do this twice as each side in thus area is classed separate.
I saved the noise floor I highlighted in side one so I can just load it up for side 2.

4.Then save whole project. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/0a2fedf05ecb5a9aaff5f09ca9cf2ecb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/d67eddd38c09f4de7ca5e3d2c4715c48.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/b8bb288c02cc18853224c1c908c8744b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/df48a348e4ab58ebf93f0d127521bed0.jpg

Great guide. I have been meaning to transfer my vinyl to computer for ages now. I bought a Terratec Riia to USB device 10 years ago. I ripped a few tracks theough the MC cards in a Nac 62 into that and it sounded far better than you would have thought. The cart was a Denon 103R on a Morch UP4 arm on my "supered" Thorens TD 160 mk ii. Now I have an ESI Juli@ sound card and Vinyl Studio so I can start any day I want ... I can vouch for the Synology units. I use 2 (double) drive boxes myself.

I also do IT support for small businesses and regularly deploy the Synology 218 to centralize file storage and simplify backups. Never given me a problem in the past 10 years i have been using them. Still got my first unit so given 10 years use they are great value.

In my home they are connected direct to my router and supply all my music via wifi to many different devices and streamers. Also have cloud access to it setup so i can play my music when away on hols.

Like Grant i use Vinyl Studio to rip my records and the Synology's keep the rips nice a secure via its inbuilt raid system.

Nice overview Grant. I know lots like Audacity (and it is very good) but Vinyl Studio is way faster to use and the artwork and track splitting/listing really is nearly as good as cd ripping.

I have rarely found the need to use the track cleanup after ripping cleaned records but find it useful for some older rarer records which are in not so good condition.

For the digitizing I use a Furutech GT40a but a cheap Rega phono mini A2D is a great way to get into vinyl ripping. It only handles CD level resolution and not 24 bit - however i wonder how many would really hear the difference if not asked to compare. I tend to capture the rip in 24 bit as you do but then deploy it in Apple lossless for cloud use (all conversion done as part of Vinyl studio workflow of course). I do this as my main IT system is Apple (or Linux) based so I have used iTunes for too many years to want to move away from it. Of course the Synology NAS lets me put DSD etc into the mix.
