I Like the Shepherd Neame a lot and it's been 4/£5 for a few weeks. The real delight tho is the Balvenie, 14 year old Caribbean Cask.
One of my favourite expressions and reduced to clear @ £30 a bottle :cool:

Not as good as the "Antidote" or "Druids" beer from the same line - http://maison-desprat.fr/nos-bieres-artisanales

Well, its certainly different. Almost appley in presentation, and a bit acidy too.. dry and acidy on exit, appley on entry. Not as big bubbled gas wise and although not got it in a glass, I think it would be headless if it was. Not saying I wont finish it, coz I will... doubt I will buy any more though that may chance lol

Had a couple of beers last night but probably too much red wine with dinner earlier ...................
The guidelines are the nanny state's way of preventing you from enjoying your life by making you worry needlessly.
We should all be teetotal, non smoking, fit and heathy little drones; they can get more work out of us and spend less of our own money on us that way.

It's not like London here, with your all night offys. No chance after 2300, after half ten you'll struggle to find anywhere open.
I was in Tulse Hill once, we come out the pub about 2 in the morning and go to this massive off licence that was full of people buying bottles of scotch and the like as though prohibition had just been announced. Three blokes behind the counter doling it out and taking the money as fast as they could keep up. It's two in the morning, time to nip down the offey for half a dozen bottles of scotch. Who lives like that?
Not been in an off licence in years... Still have a few i believe, but local licences will likely be 10 or 10.30pm. Plenty pubs.... I always get it in supermarket... not paying offey prices when I can get 18 cans of bud for 12/14 pounds
Here, Guinness is 4 for a fiver in the supermarket and £1.30 a can in the offey. And the offey have the decency to chill it. I can't buy in bulk anyway because I'd just drink too much.
Nice organic golden pale ale sipped tonight, posh beer from Waitrose. I only got late opening Spar here and they are a complete rip off!
I used to live opposite a Spar and they might as well just have put on masks and robbed me. I was too lazy to walk any further though. Fortunately it was only for six months.

There are various Polish lagers available here, between 5% and 8% alcohol strength, all at £1 a can. Some taste a bit crude, but there are acceptable choices. I'm having a drop of Perla shortly. It's OK.

Not nice. She is a nice dog, but has a lot of thefluffy stuff under her hair and moults constantly. Dog smells lately have been affecting my knackered lungs, but that was the worst.Didn't help that she was stressing me out. I am still wheezy, and have brought up a huge amount of wind, which is a symptom of stress. I'm just buggered tbh. if i was a horse I'd be glue by now :eyebrows:

On my second Pistonhead (6%). OK, so it's designer-via-Tesco, but for a lager it's warm, malty and amber.
Just a point while watching Strictly at Blackpool - it's hard to see the dancing ?!? Dark lighting, lots of backing dancers and quick camera angle switches. Lord knows how the judges or public can vote on it.

Now that we have the spelling sorted, I bought a bottle of Auchentoshen and Dalwhinnie, always liked Dalwhinnie and after a recent visit to Auchentoshen the other week £20 a bottle was too good to pass on.
Enjoyed a nice Aberlour 12 over the weekend, hadn't tried it before and its seriously good...
So the 12s a goodie? I looked at that when I bought the 10 recently. I didn't go for it simply because I'd enjoyed a dram of the 10, in a pub, and just stuck to what I 'knew'. But when the 10's finished, I'll replace it with a 12 :)

my mother drank it with a lot of lemonade or ginger ale :) quite refreshing tbh but as you say, any old whiskey does.

Interesting... That was actually my thought at the time. That, and the fact that I wanted something lighter and a bit less of a 'mouthful' than the The Balvenie 15-year old I had. In that respect, the Aberlour 10 hit the spot nicely! :)
One thing I've found (rather like wine) is that a good malt *needs* to be served at the correct temperature - none of yer bring it out of some cold cupboard and pour it straight into a glass! :nono: Get it nicely warmed up first, to properly release the flavour, and add just a teardrop of (room temperature) tap water. Perfect! :exactly:
It also only tastes right inside a crystal whisky glass... In terms of the water factor, I even have a vintage water jug, from the 70s, I keep on our coffee table, for that very purpose!

Might just be my soaked taste buds, but I often think that the longer a bottle sits after being opened the smoother the malt seems to get. That "Ardmore Legacy" was a case in point. though it took about 8 weeks for me to find it just about drinkable.
Some indeed do. I used to get a eally good quality sippin' whiskey from the States that initially had a bit of a hard, alcoholic shape to it. I used to decant half the bottle into a decanter and let them sit for a few weeks. The air left in the bottles changed the character of the whiskey tremendously, and for the better.(ps I use whiskey as American sippin' whiskey often does. Usually depends on if the distillery was started by a Scot or an Irishman. The Irish originally used the "E" to distinguish their "superior" stuff from Scottish crap at the time. Kind of changed times now of course but thats the history)

They reccommend it served straight from the freezer (like vodka) and have to say its pretty great drank like that.

^^ That's something I never knew /realised. There's so much fact &/or fiction with malt whiskies, tall still or short still or pot still, the barrels, the peat and the malting of the barley and then there's the angels getting their share...

I'd give it another go, though, although my tastes are very much in the 'super-smooth/zero 'edge'/non-peaty camp, when it comes to malts, so favour maturation in sherry or port casks, as IME they tend to impart a nice 'creamy' finish, with sherry or port-like characteristics, which I like :)
That's also where I feel good bourbons have the edge on malts, as they tend to be richer/deeper in flavour and more caramel-like - and I enjoy that type of taste.

Sorry Gary, it wasnt a criticism of you mate. maybe they made it as a party drink, who knows. I was always partial to their 15 yr old, although its a bit characterless, its so smooth, you can drink the bottle and want more:lol: a good old Pappy van Winkle is about as good as it gets for me, but wont be drinking that ever again unless I win the lottery;) then I will be dead in a month :ner:
maybe its one of those that needs a bit of air for a few weeks.. if youve any left leave it in a bottle to air off then drink warm with a small splash of water. Be interested to see if that tames it
