Now here's a strange thing, after years of research and considerable personal expense back in the 70's, I discovered that pints of mild (or bitter) followed by a whiskey chaser induced amnesia.
Was I nominated for a Nobel prize? Nope, not even a 'thanks for your effort', bunch of bar-stewards. :steam: the disappointment drove me to drink.:(
Been having an early dram and beer, and will likely be having an earlyish night.....wind and pish are depressing me :eyebrows:

Just back from a nice Thai (curry that is) and had a few nice Thai beers to wash it down so may carry on for a while with some more select beers.

I've just got over a repeated feverish cold like infection that's come and gone since before Christmas. It's rather got me down. OK now though. It was quite common around this way for a while, so I was not the exception.
Ive been on sudafed for sinal inflamation.... things improving along with the extra moisture and lower temps in house
...Now having some bourbon and water chaser.........

Cheers Martin. As far as wine's concerned I tend to stick with Dreamtime Ridge at £3.50 a bottle from Asda, the white & red are both very palatable (is that the right word?).

Depends on the estate. Most '83 Bordeaux is past maturity and starting to decline; there are exceptions, of the Right Bank, Chateau Palmer is one.

Anyway, drinks are there to be enjoyed any way you like them. However, it's probably best to save money on single malts and just go for a blend, like Famous Grouse, as with Coke in it, you won't tell the difference - or perhaps a bourbon, such as Jack Daniels.
Bacardi and Coke is nice - have you tried that? Far better than whisky and Coke, IMO.
Btw, I meant to ask you, how did your friend get on with the Amarone? :)

Actually I forgot to message you Marco.... Colin's consultant, who is Italian, was quite aware of the quality of the Amarone and hadn't touched it the last time we visited him but was very appreciative of Colin giving it to him... His other consultant also hadn't touched a drop but again knew it was a quality wine..

I was out drinking with some buddies many years ago and one lad was pretty pissed. Some bright spark bet him he couldn't eat twenty packets of crisps and a jar of pickled onions. They promised him free beer while he was trying. He said OK. What he didn't know that each of the five pints he got was laced with a liberal helping of Andrews Liver Salts. The results were interesting (and a bit messy).
Really enjoying a drop of spiced rum :cool:
& tonight's tipple is Famous Grouse (I love being retired) and before you ask I don't have a drink problem, I really enjoy it :drunk:

I had a drink problem the other day when I went down the off-licence to find it was closed as the police were raiding it.
Fortunately there was another one a little further on down the road.

Selling illegal booze? Selling drugs behind the counter? Offering soapy wanks to the local shirt-lifters? Who knows? ;)

Apparently they were selling 'legal highs' - the local council had decided to ban them so sent the police around to confiscate them. Obviously they had no legal right to do this but the owner just decided to roll over like an idiot. As we all know the cops are very keen to assert authority they don't actually have.
Marco - Depends what you drink but booze is generally more expensive in the supermarket. It isn't already chilled, you have to buy a minimum of 4 cans, it is further to walk and it takes longer to get served.
Council and cops can be persuasive. Licence renewals or sending in test customers etc. An off licence shouldnt be dealing in such substances anyways in my opinion.
As you say sometimes an offie can be cheaper for some stuff, and if you dont want to have excess booze in house its the best way to buy it.... I like to get a discount so more inclined to buy a case or 2 when on offer... I wont drink any more doing it that way personally.

They sell all manner of drug-related paraphernalia, much of it I have no idea what it is for or what it does. They even sell packs of little plastic bags, dealing for the use of.
The point is that until the law is changed these things are legal and they have every right to stock them and people have every right to buy them. Yes, the Council could make the shopkeeper's life difficult in other ways if he refuses to comply with their legally unenforceable guidelines but then it would be the Council who are straying into legally dodgy territory
Its a grey area in places, and many although not illegal as such are illegal to sell, and should never be mixed with alcohol. These points may be the reasons, and it would affect their alcohol licence i would think.or at least can be made to. They are manufactured faster than they can be banned so its difficult to keep on top of.

Not going now. Just checked out the price of replacing electronic injectors, £250 each and timing belts £500 --- monstrous!! :eek:
Will look for an old SOHC 1.9 Berlingo or Golf diesel I think.
A friend has a Berlingo and swears by it. Of course he'll be swearing at it when it finally packs in. He can get his bass cabs in it, though, and it was very cheap.

Oh my god Grant that is so sad and kind of puts my own situation into some perspective to be honest.
It was tragic, yes.. A lovely girl that I new from a toddler. her mum just burst into tears when she was sitting in car in driveway. So I got out of my car and went to help. She is a courageous lady, and as nice a person as you'll ever meet. Damn shame.... kid got diagnosed late with CF.
I know what its like so I can relate.

Drinky time;) just been checking my fuel costs as my contracts up soon. company owes me money; with 2 months to go and likely to be using even less in that time so will owe me more. I think we'll manage ok.
