I went to make secure the front door and window of a micro-brewery business that had been ram-raided in the early hours. The thieves had previously broken into a nearby curry-making business, before nicking a Golf to reverse into the brewery.
They seem to have got it the wrong way round-surely you would go for the beer first, then a curry afterwards? :scratch:
Anyway the proprietor gave me a few bottles as a thankyou for turning out so promptly. Drunk them last night, and very nice they were too. But then, free beer always tastes better. :)

I've worked in frozen storage man, minus 28. I know what cold is and I don't like it!

Well my go to 'tipple' is whisky & coke.... I know it's not quite a classic but I like it... to be honest I really don't like whisky by itself.. nasty stuff..
However I did try an Irish one from Lidl and liked that a lot

It won the 2016 World Whiskey of the Year prize, which really pissed off the Scots :). It really is delicious. Very smooth, touch of sweetness. You might just like it...

Mixture of reasons I guess. Didnt feel the need as much, and health wise felt it was a good move at my age. Wouldnt call myself t-total but its not far off these days. Strangely I dont miss it now

Won't do you any harm, mate. However, a glass of red wine now and then with a meal is good for you. I very rarely drink alcohol without food. Other than the odd beer, it just doesn't do it for me unless a nice meal is also in the equation. I guess it's the Italian in me :)
It's five weeks for me now without a drop, because of Lent, and am now on the final week before being able to indulge again on Easter Sunday. We'll be having my dad round then for a slap-up lunch, and I've already looked out some cracking wines to go with it - can't bloody wait!:cheers:

I think that last year it was £40 a bottle. looks like nobody would pay that price and they're getting rid of the remaining stocks.

Looks like a cheap bottle of aftershave tbh and tastes similar. Cheek charging that. Better with a good single malt

I guess it impresses the target audience. my mid 30's daughter bought a bottle at the £40 price point for her hubby last year. she thought if it had Beckham all over it, it had to be good.
He (bless him) thought the same. :D and did the bottle in one go.....

The bottle is cool. Not the bottle's fault that the whisky is not up to much.
I like that suit that Beckham is wearing.
Haig never could make whisky. Firewater. The bottle would be fine with voddie but decent scotch? NAH.

Non Alcoholic but having an Erdinger isotonic wheat beer.. really nice these and only 125 cals for a 500cl bottle, which i doubt I will manage.

Absolutely not... I gave up about 8 years ago but can't say I felt any benefit but I know it's done me good :)
At least you can now smell my perfume rather than stale smoke..

Not beer, but I'm going to be making a couple of these Portuguese cocktails later, famous in Lisbon, called an Amarjito:

Just seen this. I don't know the place but it is in Burslem which is two towns over. I never have any cause to go there. Does look like they have some interesting beers, make a change from Guinness and Stella I suppose.

I agree, but it's miles away over hill and dale. Burslem, pronounced 'Boz-lum' Is like the land that time forgot. I used to work there and they still had early closing on a Thursday. I think they might have stopped that by now but it is still a time capsule. Worth going for that if you have not been but go soon as they are gradually ruining it as they are with everywhere.

I'm thinking of popping round to the shop for some beers. Not had one for about a week and rather fancy the idea seeing as the weekend is here.
I've got a can of San Miguel. You know there are three off-licenses near me and they are all equidistant within a few yards? But none of them are properly close, where you can just nip round.
Used to live in a house with a Chinese and an offey literally 100 feet away. A good Chinese too, Never cooked for myself once the whole year I was there.

Got myself a couple of cans of Perla Polish lager. It's quite acceptable stuff.
I had several Polish options too. Loads of Polish live round here. Perla is okay, but they are all a bit hefty on the old ABV, your Polish beers, and I had a couple of pints after work already.

For the past few days we have got into the habit of going out around 10 'o clock at night for a walk, when it has cooled and is more pleasant than during the day. Usually end up at a pub and enjoy a beer al fresco. :cool:
Nice thing to do, just like you're on holiday! I bet you slept better too, as taking in some night air before bed usually has that effect:)

I've bought wine and beer by the case before but found the savings were more than wiped out by the fact that I was drinking 100% more as there was always booze in the house to go at.
I think I'm an alcoholic, I'm sat with a glass of Baileys watching The Crown!
Suffering from a heavy cold - no great shakes I just don't feel like going to the shops - after finishing our last bottle of wine the only alcohol I could find was the Christmas Baileys. My wife, also under the weather, decides to start watching the Crown. Personally I would like to abolish the royals but have to admit the Queen is a pretty impressive woman. To my surprise the series seems pretty well done if you like that sort of thing - although I may be a little delirious.
Is there any hope for me? In my defence my medicine did start with a bottle of Pedigree. Have you ever hit the low point of scouring the kitchen cabinets for long forgotten booze? Not all of us can stretch to a wine cellar!

fags were the worst, gave up 20 years ago but had to have some in the house when quitting or the thought of not having any in the house would drive me mad.

I have pre-teen children and a hot topic of us parents is the unhealthy lifestyle of our children hooked on their games consoles. I do have sympathy with this view but at the same age was smoking, lighting endless fires and playing on building sites so have mixed emotions. If I'm honest I wouldn't want them following in my my footsteps, I started smoking in primary school and am pleased they do not smoke. I started at the age my youngest is now and still think of her as a baby so would be shocked to learn she smoked. How things change! On the other hand they are not at all street smart which will be a worry as they get older.

The fastest runner got a lot of respect too. Or if you were good at football. Or a good bowler. Being a good batsman was never rated, the bowler would always get the blame if you knocked him about.

I think the mind is stronger than muscle but I was never going to play football for England or sing in a successful rock and roll band! I do think we need to encourage our children to reach for the moon and follow their dreams. It's a short life and very easy to simply conform - I think I've had too many Baileys!

You had the power to make fire! That was important to children of our generation, no Xboxes or smartphones to distract us. some of those things they only ever do on those video games we used to do for real. Decided on a couple of beers tonight too. Not yet though.
Few bottles of Pilsner Urquell for me tonight.
Crisp, dry, reasonably hoppy, just how a pilsner should be. Oh, and ice cold. The Czechs invented pilsner, and this one according to folklore is the first “pale” beer.
They have a very strong argument though, because it’s brewed in a place called Plzen (Pilsen).
That's a decent drop.
I'm on the Guinness. Can't beat getting toasted on a Friday night, not done it in ages. Well okay - three weeks.
A large ‘snifter’ of my favourite Armagnac – Janneau XO . :)
Lucky yooz... Lent has just started, so I'm off all alcohol for 6 weeks!

Had a bottle of Oderro Barolo as recommended by Marco at Christmas. Superb stuff with a taste for top end Barolo. Dark, velvety and complex. Lovely stuff.

I did not drink it at Christmas as my mum was taken ill and we had to abandon Christmas meal as planned. However some friends came over to visit from Italy and so we drank it with them. Apparently it is the same price there. My friend who has his own vineyard in Piedmont and a vast cellar rated it very highly indeed. To get better you need to spend double or more apparently?

Polish beer. One of the better ones.
I've had Perla before, Geoff, and it's good. Where did you get it from?:)

Got the Perla from a local Indian mini-mart. I've tried the Zywiec, but think I like the Perla better.
No worries. There are different types of Perla, though. That one you had is the 'special brew', and significantly more alcoholic. The standard Perla is 5.6% abv. So if you like the strong stuff I'm not surprised you prefer the Perla to the Zywiec:eyebrows:
Aside from some Belgian beers which come in small bottles, I'm not keen on much over 6% abv, as for me the taste of alcohol becomes too dominant. Mostly with beers I drink standard 4.8% abv.

Not necessarily. I don't drink more than two beers in an evening and sometimes have a strong one and a weaker one. Just enough to mellow me out. :)

At 6.0ABV, sounds like my kind of beer as I'm not into the weak 'pee watery' generic beers like Fosters, Carling, Heineken etc etc, preferring around the 6.0 mark which tends to have a bit more bite / flavour in my experience.
I'm not a regular drinker at all but when I do, it's gotta feel like an enjoyable treat.
I do enjoy Peroni's Gran Riserva Doppio Malto, (has to be nicely chilled), which I tend to indulge whenever we get to Pizza Express - Golden, flavoursome, malty, indulgent and with a nice but not ott bite/kick at 6.6% :D

Actually, same here Marco when that's the exception, to refresh, quench etc I like the standard Peroni for that :)
I will try find some of The Namysłów. There has to be a Polish Delicatessen that does beers not far from me.

Never liked extra strong beer. 4 to 5 % is fine for beer.
Guinness was superb, especially in Dublin. Tenners on draft well looked after was OK.
There were better tho.
Harp if in a good cellar was a nice drop too.
Belhaven best was great too. Our local poured it well

Went for a beer last night, Covid rules permitting. Had to give track and trace information, at the door, wear a mask, order at the bar, then sit outside (in the cold) with others who were smoking nearby (Happy detests the smell of cigarette smoke), and pay well over the odds for a couple of bottles of Peroni Nastro Azzurro.
Quite frankly it was a miserable experience. :(

there's a number of similarities between the two films, both have a flashback whipping scene.

Cant remember the whipping in Pale Rider(but might be), which was 12 yrs on from High Plains Drifter which of course kept returning to it as he was lashed to death in the town yrs before. we dont know how he returned to life, or if he did.. Eastwood directed both; think High Plains was his first direction i think... Bruce Surtees did the filming in both as well. Both have the man with no name; one a preacher, the other an ex sherrif.. both are avenging angels of a sort.
