Yep, went somewhere today to get some advice on my medical situation, they asked me some pertinent questions, and was promptly told I needed to change my ways and think snail like or not last too long[emoji3064]
Oh well I had a good time before I got ill, I will just have to find more sedate pleasures.[emoji848]
I agree - buy an autochanger that can be loaded with half a dozen records. That will stop you hopping up and down every twenty minutes or so!
Trick is to rest a lot and not do too much of what ever hurts you or causes the issues.
Took me a few years to get my head around the facts etc but I'm getting there.
I also go to bed very early which gives me a better chance in daytime to do some stuff.
It is a culture shock to you but it is doable..

Usually in bed at 9 and feeling wasted by then, especially if I have done much in the day. Virtually every night I wake feeling unwell with BP and angina issue to varying degrees accompanied with a headache. Generally I some movement initially and controlled breathing helps and then I lie in bed until symptoms subside and I hopefully dose off. The more it goes on the more used to it I am getting, it’s at least a year now.

I am usually in bed at 6. Lol. Not usually sleeping all time but if I do I do. Got TV monitor with amazon, netflix and dvds etc.
I get to lie out, rest etc and see TV or sleep. Got a fridge next to me for water. Toilet is close too.
During day I'm much better are pacing myself and doing the easy thing now. Fall less, resting better, breathing better too.
Managing to make food from scratch more too.
When out I mostly use my buggy which I hoist out of boot instead of trying to kill myself walking.
Taken me 6 years to learn, being stubborn lol

Nearly three years for me since I replaced fags with vaping. Took a little while to get out of the physical habit of lighting up, but ended up not missing it.
Vaping may not be an ideal solution, but it certainly works as an alternative and my chest feels just fine.
The amount of money saved is not to be sniffed at either. A quid's worth of vape liquid lasts me a day or two!

For heavier smokers, there are stronger vape liquids. You may have needed to try those. Probably upwards of 18mg/ml, which is the max I need. I do use weaker ones though.
Non-smokers don't realise how much nicoteen addiction gets its hooks into you. I tried going 'cold turkey' many times, but after a couple of weeks of increasingly sleepless nights, blurred vision, irritability, twitchiness and total inability to concentrate, I gave up. Vaping was a godsend! (once I got it right)
Been vaping for about 6 years - first 2 I mixed it with real cigarettes to cut down then Jan 2016 decided to go vape only, and haven't had a ciggy since. I'm still a nicotine addict, but there are really no downsides to vaping (well until they ban it or suddenly discover it is actually worse for you than fags!) I use 18mg and menthol flavour only, reminded me of a Consulat which I enjoyed sometimes as a proper smoker. Think that helped the transition - tried some whacky flavours (candy floss anyone?) but they don't really work for me and the tobacco flavoured ones really aren't, or at least not 6 years ago.

Can someone please explain the Logic in electric ciggies! I mean just stop smoking. The wife stopped over night nearly 8 years ago, no substitutes at all, she smoked over 20 a day.
Two obvious reasons i see to stop smoking as outlined below but are obviously counterproductive with a lot of people..
1. Save Money [But spending it of Nic patches or Lecky fags]
2. General Health to yourself & others around you [Dunno what smells worse + Aint doing your chest no favours plus the dangers that aint yet been realised]
ofc do what you will..

Bloody hell, mate, so that's like 60 a day?:wowzer:
That is worrying, and honestly the concern is genuine. However, I need to inject a little humour, as that's just me, so I'll just say that it explains your relative disinterest in food!:D;)
Don't know many heavy smokers who are foodies.... The two tend to be incompatible, as it kills your tastebuds. Aside from anything else though, it must be costing you a bloody fortune!

Didn't know you vaped, Alex? To my knowledge, you haven't mentioned it before... A couple of my mates do and make up their own 'juice'. Yeah, aside from the nicotine intake (as it's not good to be addicted to anything) there are no known health downsides, especially for those around you, as it's just vapour, not smoke - and yes some of the flavours are really funky!:)

You think the world will be some kind of utopia when all the smokers have finally kicked the habit or died. WRONG! If I could kick the habit I could use the money to buy more loudspeakers. Now there's an incentive... The reality is that the money saved would just drop into the bottomless pit we call the "household budget". No more likely to go on hifi purchases than your road tax being spent on roads upkeep :(

Quite right Grant. Just need to convince Mrs. P of this ;)
Truth is, no one on here is ever likely to inhale mine or any other forummer's smoke. So that's that. It's my body and I reserve the right to knacker it up any way I see fit :)

I did'nt say you in particular but a lot like to blow the shit in peoples faces, stand inside Bus stop smoking like a Chimney. Smoking in the car when they have the kids in there etc It's all out of order. Ive even seen people having a craft drag on the back of the bus. Yeh ill admit it, i did get arrested once for lacing into a twat for blowing the shit in my face on passing. i wont stand for it..
Im one of them that cant be doing with people anyway, i just tolerate living on the same planet with em, they keep themselves to themselves & don't get in my way i'm then fine.
Can someone please explain the logic of non smokers bangin' on about how bad smoking is? I mean just stop nagging.
Two obvious reasons I see to stop nagging as outlined below but are obviously counterproductive with a lot of nags...
1. Nobody likes a nag
2. Nobody listens to nags
You think the world will be some kind of utopia when all the smokers have finally kicked the habit or died. WRONG! Next news the arbiters of what's right and what's not will come after other minorities, like Yorkshire folk, and "big boned" fellas (sorry Marco, being thin on the inside won't cut it, they'll still try to hound you out of the kitchen) :D
Oh and by the way, I smoke around 10-12 cigs a day, had you going there :)
Good stuff, that's more like it. I have nothing against smokers, as long as I'm not forced to inhale their poisonous fumes, which thankfully the smoking ban sorted [although, as I've said here before, I didn't consider how that was done was fair, and am against such blanket bans].
"Big boned", yes, thin on the inside, no. Never said that. Try FIT from the inside, as a result of eating well/healthily. *That* is what I said, so next time pay attention!:ner:
;)
Marco.

Well done that man!
If I could kick the habit I could use the money to buy more loudspeakers. Now there's an incentive... The reality is that the money saved would just drop into the bottomless pit we call the "household budget". No more likely to go on hifi purchases than your road tax being spent on roads upkeep :(
Not nagging just a gentle cattle prod. As many know I have a serious heart condition. If you have a look online at the British Heart Foundation web site you will find 5 prime reasons for getting Cardiovascular Disease. Each one double the likelihood. I have three, possibly 4, genetics, drink alcohol for quite a few years not excessively but enough, smoked about 10 a day for 16 years and then 3-4 for 8, and having too much bad fat in diet.
2% off all men over 50 will have a heart attack caused by CVD. So that is 1 in 50, so in my case the odds increased to at between 1 in 3 and 1 in 6. But here is the rub smoking and genetics are the most likely to give you heart disease. Smoking because it hardens the arteries making it easier for cholesterol to stick and bung them up ultimately resulting in heart attack. By the way more people die of heart attacks than cancer every year.
So if anyone reading this values there life and doesn’t want a load of pain then stopping smoking ASAP is a good idea.
Having experienced a heart attack, 3 start ops, a triple bypass and still trying to get over it after 4 years I would recommend that anyone does whatever they can to avoid it, and once you have CVD it is not cure-able it is progressive, drugs only slow it.
It is never too late to stop and improve your chances.

Marco.
You could still be thin on the inside - it is possible to be thin AND fit you know, but being thin and STRONG could be a struggle. It may be difficult to assess how much is muscle, without some kind of scanner. Or some weights. Go on man, get on that bench press and show us the power! Only kidding mate, just a bit of retaliation for giving me crap about the smoking :ner:
The real problem is folk who are fit looking on the outside, but fat on the inside. This comes from a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet, and is a hidden killer.
Years ago I studied for a diploma in sports science (yes, I know!) and had to do some case studies related to BMI. One example I used was a work colleague of mine who was well over six foot, had bog all muscle tone, quite a big belly and thin arms and legs. His BMI was in normal range. Another example was my tutor who was a competitive bodybuilder. He was 5'9", sixteen stone or so, with very little body fat, He also did a fair bit of running, so fit AND strong. His BMI was well into the obese range.
All I learned from this was that BMI is a bag of shite, and needs to be used with other testing methods. Don't know why I'm writing all this, bored I guess.
Oh and don't get too comfortable there, the VEGANS are coming for you, don't say you weren't warned :(

I was rushed in hospital one evening cos i was that pissed i was chucking my guts up none stop but could not move, apparently quantities of blood was coming up with it.. I was in serious trouble.. I think smoking can lead to a short life but heavy boozing can take you life like that..

Written above the Oracle at Delphi were the words 'meden agan' - "nothing in excess", or as we would say "everything in moderation". That has been my approach in life.
I could say (and I think Oscar Wilde actually did): "everything in moderation - including moderation itself", but that would not be good advice unless you want to live life in the fast lane.
At last, a well informed and non-judgemental post on the subject, coming from someone who's been there done that.
I agree about Adrian's post, but who's being judgmental? All we're doing is saying what we like and don't like, do and don't do, and what applies to us. Just because you may disagree with some of it, or what is disliked highlights some problems you may have doesn't make it judgemental:ner:;)

You're right, smokers can be a bit touchy about it, at least the ones with half a brain. It comes from years of being hounded and being made to feel like a 2nd class citizen. But due to my laid back approach to life and general sunny demeanour I'm probably less touchy than most :)

Yes, thanks for the heads-up. The chiffon maxi-skirt I bought is just a tad 'roomy', due to being rather bloated when I tried it on [water retention], but after a subsequent good fart and 'clear out', I'll probably squeeze into the size 20.

Nice to be appreciated, though the taxman ain't gonna get rich off my latest batch of duty free ;)
In the past smokers have been accused of being a drain on the NHS, though I feel the opposite is true - if I retire at 67, and peg it 5 years later from a smoking related illness, certainly the hospital treatment and palliative care wouldn't be cheap.
But compare that to a non smoker who lives for another 20 years past retirement. That's 20 years of state pension, free prescriptions and other concessions, at the end of which he'll still get sick and eventually die of something. Healthy folk are the real tax burden!

Bear in mind that that's not me having a 'lie-in'; I'm asleep solid until I wake up - and as soon as I'm awake, I'm up. I don't 'do' lying awake in bed, just for the sake of it. Besides, usually by then I'm desperate for a pish!!:D

No its a 39 Hour rota pattern..Doesn't sound good. I once worked shifts, and initially it was fairly simple, but then someone suggested a modification which was adopted. That was IIRC a 3 week pattern - one week Tuesday and Thursday, one week MWF, and a week of nights. Perhaps the official working week was 35 or 36 hours, so over the three week period it worked out about right. The good thing about it was that some weeks there were whole off days, and there was even at least one long weekend - though I can't remember the precise details. I think the day shifts were longer (but manageable) to allow for the days off and the weekends.
It also meant fewer journeys to and from work.

You're rewarding your body for waking you up by doing things it likes, like posh coffee, whiskey, Pink Floyd, Radiohead - like a baby who learns that by crying mummy will always come running and 'make it better'. Switch to playing something like Coldplay, and after a couple of early mornings of that I guarantee your body won't be arsed waking you up :)

Pink Floyd - The Last Concert (Gilmour, Waters, Mason ,Wright )
David Gilmour / Roger Waters / Nick Mason / Richard Wright
On 2 July 2005 Pink Floyd performed at the London Live 8 concert with Roger Waters rejoining David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. It was the quartet's first performance together in over 24 years — the band's last show with Waters was at Earls Court in London on 17 June 1981.

You're rewarding your body for waking you up by doing things it likes, like posh coffee, whiskey, Pink Floyd, Radiohead - like a baby who learns that by crying mummy will always come running and 'make it better'. Switch to playing something like Coldplay, and after a couple of early mornings of that I guarantee your body won't be arsed waking you up :)Interesting theory. I’ll try to remember that next time I wake up before 4 am. I’ll need a list of food, drink, music and films I really don’t like.

Used to go see bands a bit. Localish stuff mostly, maybe up to 20 miles away. Most were shit, but you got the odd goodie. Saw Jack Bruce play local. Played an upright bass as well as the guitar

I am an old petrolhead what did you race?
Started with 100cc class 1 nationa cart racing
Then LCAMC and AEMC Autocross racing using firstly a MK 1 escort then rebuilt into a MK11 escort
All steel 1600 x/flow ford , Cosworth crank rods and pistons , Cosworth A6 cam , Big valve head , Steel timing gears ( No chains here ) Steel light weight flywheel with a twin plate sintered bronze clutch , Full 5 port dry sup kit , Rocket close ratio gear box , Atlas Axle with limited slip diff , I built the engine and run it on the dyno so when fitted it was all set up and ready to race , Did that for about 5 years with good results , Some drag racing in a 5.7 ltr V8 competition altered
Good times :)
You forgot the Meyerhoff Lifters. Ner

Sounds like lots of fun, I did several track days and some sprinting in a TVR Griffith, the did 2 years hill climbing in a strip out 85 Toyota MR2, it was getting too expensive to get to be competitive, need to strip the engine and rebuild with racing parts from USA taking it to 1800 and replacing intake/injection it would have been around 210bhp then but would have needed diff change and slicks, so I stopped.
Still enjoyed 2 years.

As a casual member I gave up trying to stay in bed shortly after 6am.
I wonder why I bother here sometimes though, I'm not sure I really want to hear about Marco's encounters with anuses (or not), or Pigmy's responses to them.
Sunrise in a while - a bit later for those of us in the frozen wastes.

It helps with your sense of humour if you give it a chance.[emoji3] a bit of the rediculous goes a long way to easing all the pain...well for me anyway.

I’m back again,
feeling the same,
it’s four into morning,
and the dog’s snoring.
Sue is blissfully unaware,
Whilst I wander in the night,
Trying to work out my plight,
Getting on with my fight,
Time for a tea, and a pee
And try and keep sanity,
So I browse Art of Sound,
Watch the world go round.
