After my customary Sunday night rummage round AoS's drawers, I think it's time this one got a fresh airing.

    It's post no. 3:
    Your System Pictures

Where Rob kicked the ball off. This is actually quite interesting because after a little further delving around, you can see how some individuals systems have evolved (sometimes transformed) over the relatively short period since the thread started in January 2008

    Anyway, here it is:

    Well, it that time again...........
.........time to stir up the gloop at the bottom of the gravy dish & see if any juicy lumps appear, ready to be chewed over by the Art of Sound members.

So here's what I've found. It's a thread started by Howard Popeck back in July 2008. Howard wanted to know if folks thought the very appearance of a brand in the Richer Sounds catalogue caused people to immediately discount that brand as the makers of proper hi-fi............interesting theory.

So here we go - Thread Number 789:

Richer Sounds and the impact (if any) on brand credibility / image

Last week's choice seems to have been a good one
So now it's time to put the blindfold on and chuck a dart at the list of threads to see what we can find. That really is how I do it - my monitor is full of holes, y'know!

So, at the risk of scratching at Alex UK's wound, this thread's from one of the dearly departed...............

This thread is number 1150 from October 2008 and it was by AbibiaEtheria who had a rather short, but auspicious tenure on The Art of Sound. Unfortunately we never had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with Abibia enough to know their real first name. Maybe it was Abibia - I must say I do like the idea of Etheria as a last name!

    A weird one this:
    Has Been Captured

    http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1150

So just what was that all about then?

OK, so last week was a bit of a dud - my fault.
But you have to treat me gently because this is my 3.000th AoS post & Marco's waiting for a Whirl of Piss-dom

So how about this one then?
It's from January 2009 & it was Thread Number 1856, posted by Stefano - 'Twogoodears'
It's just a old big heap of lovely gear.......enjoy.

As this week we've got a Bank Holiday Weekend & I've got nowt better to do for a few moments, I'm going to do an Easter Special From the Grave. In fact, it's going to be a double, with part two at the end of the Easter break.

It was a request from Hamish to redo this thread & actually it's almost exactly 6 months since it first came up and it links up very nicely with something I've got in mind for the next one.

So, back in October 2009, Dave Cawley posted up a list of the most prolific posters on The Art of Sound. It caused much hilarity among all. In the last few days, we've had several people with milestones (3 & 4 thousands), so I think the timing is spot on to light a fire back under it.

I'll be posting some new statistics very shortly so you don't need to go checking for yourself.

So here it is, Post No. 4066

Pick Of The Pops, the top 20 posters on A.O.S.

Default Easter 2010 - Part II

OK, so I promised a double bill for this weekend. Here's Part II & it's directly related to Part I.

The thread I have in mind is Thread No. 1160 and it was started by Marco back in October 2008. Marco chose to call his shiny new thread:
500 Members - A Small But Significant Milestone!

However, it's something that was said by another member that we're addressing here.

This thread was supposed do what it said on the tin, but I think it was the one that set the standard for AoS thread drift! Not only that, but all those concerned have tried and failed to surpass this benchmark ever since.

So we start on membership numbers and slip away from that by about post number 10 or 11. Then we wobble our way around various topics such as:
    • When and how various people 'popped their cherries',
    • The glory or otherwise of the iPod,
    • Other fora,
    • Various cartridges,
    • Various turntables &
    • Drive systems thereof,
    • The first mention (that I'm aware of), of Anthony's AoS amps,
    • A visit to the Naim factory with a side trip to a Naimperson's pad for dinner, holidays
    .............etc etc.

Eventually, Senor Snapper managed to get the thread back on track but not till post number 97!!!! Then StanleyB piped up with his post which is the one that I'd like to bring to your attention here. If you read it, you should finally begin to see what the connection is between this & the 'From the Grave' offering I made the other day about the AoS Top 20 Posters.

    So go to:
    http://theartofsound.net/forum/showt...t=1160&page=10
    ......for Stan's post first.

If you want to read the full thread in it's gory detail then you should go to: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1160

The Mighty 'From the Grave' this week contains no statistics, no fancy spreadsheets, no attempt at thought provoking comment from me, none of that stuff. Just a long thread that I thought some people might be interested to read from new. Or maybe you might like to read it again if you saw it before. If not, then that's fine.

Thread number 1538. It's from Steve (Sastusbulbas), December 2008

Hope you like it. If not, then that's fine too.

So I wonder if anyone read last week's 'From The Grave'?

This week it's a musical question posed by Nick (Beechwoods).
It was Post Number 1400 from November 2008

Mheh. I did, but for once I resisted the temptation to irk the purists.

I always read 'em Chris, depends on how much past wine-o'clock it is if I comment on them though!
