Im chuffed with ebay because Ive managed to buy vintage Manchester City patches from the 60s 70s and 80s. When I do turn up at the Etihad stadium it will be like Ive been at every game. I will try and make out Im an old timer that has never been away from my seat...stories of Mike Doyle and the League Cup 1976 :)
I will have my Maine Road Marvels and Books Blue army patches etc on my scarf.
I think there was someone called Helen who used to ring a bell at the goal end at Maine Road. Probably not with us now. I want to meet characters like that again and hope it hasnt become too cold and corporatised.

Poor first half, but took the chances in the second and nearly sneaked it

Yeah, brilliant result for Rangers in particular, away from home to a very good Spanish team. I saw the whole of the second half and they were unlucky not to win it. Still, a draw was good, but most importantly the performance was excellent, bits of the first half aside.
Yes, Celtic scraped a 1-0 win, with an 87th winner from substitute Griffiths, *but* defensively aside (and Scott Brown), the team were poor, with too many players looking jaded and off-form, particularly Edouard who I think is struggling to handle the pressure of his £9m price tag, and to live up to the expectations necessary, plus he's not suited to playing the lone striker role, in the way of Dembele. He needs to feed off another striker.
And unless Rodgers alters the system to accommodate Griffiths, it's not going to work, and the team will continue struggling to score goals, as indeed they've done so far all season, which isn't something you normally say about Celtic!
On the plus side, the defence is as solid as it's been in a long time, with Boyata a different player since returning from the World Cup (and recovering from his 'wee strop'), and Benkovic looking every inch a £13m defender. His range of passing and reading of the game is sublime, and we're very lucky to have him! If both him and Boyata can remain injury free, they'll form a formidable partnership.
Anyway, both Rangers and Celtic are keeping the Scottish flag flying in Europe for a while longer yet!:cool:

Indeed, and it's shaping up to be the closest title race in years... And that will remain so until, or if, Celtic get their act together. There's no doubt whatsoever that they've got the best players, but at the moment they don't have the best team - and most of it is in their heads!

Will be interesting to see if Hearts can also mount a challenge
There are lot of decent sides this year and it may be hearts hibs Aberdeen etc will all push hard for first half of season at least.
At moment hearts have beat team. Good luck to them on their budget

yes was watching on rtv. a bit sloppy in last 10/15 mins but a good result... 2nd in table now, but as i said last week a lot of teams together in table. below hearts there are 6 sides with only 2 points between them.

Indeed, on both counts... Glad you guys pumped Hearts. It opens up the league nicely, and I'm no fan of Levein or his team. In terms of us, yeah, it was only a matter of time before *some* team took a pounding [wounded animal syndrome], due to all the (highly justified) criticism we've had!
It could've easily been 10, had it not been for some excellent saves from their keeper. It's just a pity it wasn't against Hearts or Kilmarnock, who are both due a right good gubbing from us soon, as payback for some defeats they've inflicted - and it will come;)

What with this, that and the other, I totally forgot about the Europa Footy tonight :doh: I see Rangers managed a fairly lacklustre 0-0 draw v an improved Spartak side... Not the greatest result but probably what we deserved overall. Young side with little experience so could be worse.
Alas I see Celtic lost to Leipzig; no idea how it went tho it was away, and they are a good side. Shame tho that between us we couldnt manage a win or two.

As far as Europe's concerned and Celtic, for me this season it's simply an unwanted distraction, as at the moment we're patently not good enough!
*If* we strengthen the team significantly in January and retain all our key players in the summer, then next season might be different. Good luck, though, to Rangers - I truly hope they can progress as far as possible in the Europa League.
However, as far as I'm concerned, the sooner we're out of it the better, and can instead then fully concentrate on the much more important domestic front, defending our current trophies there and most importantly retaining the league title, which brings me to this:
CELTIC 3 Hearts 0 :yay::yay::yay: :upyours::upyours:
Get it RIGHT UP YE, Levein!:D That'll do, for starters, as payback for some of our defeats at Tynecastle. Look out for the next league game there, when we'll PUMP you again - although next time even worse!!:trust:
Sorry, as you know, I'm no fan of Craig Levein..... I'd also have rather faced Rangers in the final (would've made for an even more exciting match), who I see lost today to Aberdeen, so my condolences, in that respect, to Granty and Robin.

Also glad to see Aberdeen beating Kilmarnock today (1-2)! :)
I think Stevie Clarke is a great manager, and have a lot of respect for him, but was pleased to see his team lose as they're taken plenty of points off of us recently - in fact I don't think we've beaten Kille since he took over as manager. They've been even more of a bogey team for us than Hearts!
In that respect, I'm looking forward to our next trip to Rugby Park, where hopefully we'll give them a well overdue hiding...;)

Yeah, with a game in hand (against Motherwell away) and only one point behind those bigoted coin-throwing bassas, it shouldn't be too long until normal service is resumed;)

Yup, and coupled with not conceding many at the other end... There was a malaise in the team after Dembele left, and wasn't replaced, which put more pressure on Edouard. And initially he struggled, but now seems to have settled, gained confidence with the goals he's been scoring and now looks like a £9m striker. Dembele leaving also affected Ntcham, but he's also got his act together now.
The real 'find', however, is Ryan Christie, whom I've always rated but who never really got a chance until recently. He's helped Edouard and really looks like a player now he's filled out and matured more. Plus, Benkovic has made a MASSIVE difference to the solidity of our defence, and has now started to knock in goals at the other end. He's pure quality, and forming a superb partnership with Boyata. Rogic is also regaining his best form, and has an almost telepathic understanding with Forrest.
Hey, even Scott Sinclair's coming onto a game again!
My obvious bias aside, the undeniable fact is that Celtic have the best players in the league (by a country mile) and when those players start performing to their full potential, which until recently they weren't, then there's only really one outcome... It'll be interesting to see what happens in the January transfer window - look out for a replacement for Dembele, with a view to trying to make a proper impact in Europe next season, and motoring on to retaining the title!:cool:
Can't see us doing much in the Europa league this season - a win against Leipzig on Thursday, however, is a must. You guys have got a better chance of qualifying from your group.

Well we did it and won 2-1! :yay:
I'd say that was our best/most complete performance of the season so far, against a *very* good Bundesliga team. We could've easily scored a couple more. Let's remember too, that we were without the likes of Brown and Ntcham - two players who would walk into any team in Scotland, and also many in England!
However, what a difference it makes when Benkovic is in the heart of our defence and plays alongside Boyata - a luxury we've only had so far in this competition against Rosenborg. The assuredness and solidity he provides in our defence gives us the platform we can build upon to win games. There wasn't a failure in the team tonight. Gordon was also superb, pulling off a number of good saves.
The stars of the show, however, were Tierney (his goal was superb), McGregor, and once again, Ryan Christie! That boy is turning out to be the find of the season, and makes such a difference to the speed and dynamics of our team, particularly our forward play, but he was all over the park tonight, making crucial tackles in defence and midfield. Man of the match for me, along with McGregor.
Edouard was also superb and took his goal well. He's beginning to look like he's capable of filling Dembele's boots (along with adding his own particular talents), and he's getting stronger and more confident with each passing game. We've still got a lot of work to do to qualify for the knockout stages, but we've got a chance, and the signs now are that we're back to our best, so that augurs well for the year ahead!:cool:
Rangers deserved to get at least a point from their game (I watched most of it on BT Sport). Morelos' goal should've stood, to make it 4-2, and if it had, it would've been a different match. Sadly though for Rangers, their shocking defending cost them the game, which Gerrard's defensive shuffling seems partly responsible for, but there were also some howlers. Had it not been for Allan McGregor pulling off some good saves, they'd have conceded more.
Overall, Gerrard's managing the team pretty well, and there's no doubt that Rangers have improved considerably since last season, but he's still got a lot to learn, which is currently being highlighted by his tactical naivety. It'll be interesting to see how things pan out after the crucial Christmas period is over. I always feel that, come January, you get a pretty good indication of the teams who are most likely of taking the prizes, and hopefully by then we'll already have secured the League Cup trophy!

Is Tavernier a defender? IMO, no, but he's a great player going forward and is responsible for a lot of Rangers' creativity.

I like Goldson he’s been great for us so far, Tavernier as you say is great going forward, however the main issue is left back, can’t believe he is still playing Flanagan who was responsible for at least 2 of the goals. We lost a game that was ours to win
A better performance against a really dirty Motherwell side. Some of their Tatics targeting Morelos and then the young lad attakai were disgusting. It's about time this was kicked out of our game.
Anyway. 7-1. So get that oops youz well.

However, normal service has been resumed at the top of the table, albeit on our considerably superior goal difference, thanks to Kille pumping Hearts yesterday (haha)... Poor old Levein can't buy a win at the moment. Their 'title challenge' will be over before the Christmas lights come down!:D

Seriously though, James Forrest was virtually unplayable last night, and against a very well-organised defence. His awareness in the box, positional sense, close control and finishing were in the highest rank - just simply awesome:eek:
I hesitate to use the term 'world class', but if he keeps this up he will be, and at 27 he's in his prime. No doubt he's added a few more million onto his value now.... SPL defences look out!:eyebrows:

The guys who stuck it out through the tough times should be trusted(to an extent).. too many felt their precious image as top players were being eroded.... they aint top pros if thats their attitude!
I think Teirney and Jack were fine.. both attended.
Thought the central defensive pair did well enough as did Fraser and the goal scorer from Celtic..(forgot his name doh) but 5 goals in 2 games ably supported by Fraser showed he has what it takes.

Just watched the highlights, looked like a few decent performances, still need a right full back and a bit of experience at centre back. Thought Robertson and Fraser looked good on the left side and Forrest, Christie and Armstrong all playing well.

That, along with Salzburg winning, and automatically qualifying, now puts us in with a great chance of going through to the knockout stages. It's now in our hands in the final game at Celtic Park, and with Salzburg already through.

Cheers, mate. I totally agree with you about the tough group... Yours was *much* tougher than ours, and for Rangers to have done as well as they have, and still be in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages, is testament to just how much the team have improved under Gerrard.
For me too, holding a team of the quality of Villareal to a 0-0 draw at home (not sure Celtic could've managed keeping a clean sheet like that) shows just how strong Rangers are now at Ibrox. Not many teams, certainly those in the SPL, will leave there this season with points.
Chance for us to win our first trophy of the season tomorrow, but I'm expecting Aberdeen to make it difficult!:cool:

Just a wee bad spell. mate. We went through one, too... Also (like we did against Motherwell), Gerrard made too many changes to the usual starting 11, and paid the price. If you're going to make changes, then only do two or three at a time, not six or seven (same applies to Celtic)!:doh:
Also, you guys need to sort out Morelos... 8 red cards so far this season, that's simply not on! A talented player on his day, but now a liability, and starting to badly affect the team.

Sure, but in my opinion your exploits, overall, considering the teams you were playing, were at least good as ours (arguably better), so you were unlucky. That 4-3 defeat away to Spartak, in a match you should have won, was probably the killer blow...
I suspect you'll hammer Hamilton tomorrow, at home, and get a response from losing your last three matches. It'a an important game, and one you really have to win.

Nah, the game will be as tight as a gnat's arse.... I see it as a 'must win' game for Rangers, if they have aspirations of winning the title (especially with Celtic due to strengthen their squad in a major way during the January transfer window), so they certainly have the incentive of 'wanting/needing it' most, as long as the players take that attitude onto the pitch...
However, Celtic (and BR) have a habit of winning the BIG games (cup finals and key league games) - the ones that *really* matter - and they'll be wanting to end on a high for the winter break, so that's why I think it'll be tight.
The question you have to ask yourself though, is if you were offered being second in the SPL at the end of December, only 3 points behind Celtic, and with the chance to go level in the next match, before the season kicked off, would you have taken it?
It's all about making progress on where you were before Gerrard arrived....

Hibs, Hearts(early in season), Aberdeen(now), Killy and now Saints have all done very well and the points have been shared around quite well, making it a much better league.
Question is, can any or all of these sides continue to play at this level for second half of season? Probably not, and Celtic will motor away a bit. Celtic are still the team, although not as dominant as they were(all things fade), and I expect them to win league, but hopefully not by double figures.

One of the main issues with our side is that most of the players are young and fairly inexperienced, especially under the expectation of having to win, win, win.. we probably have the youngest, most inexperienced side in top end of league

I've no idea how the league will pan out, but I largely agree with what you've said, especially about it now being a higher standard. The teams you've mentioned have all improved due to the arrival of exceptional managers, especially Stevie Clarke at Killie, who quite frankly, has achieved miracles with his team and the budget he's got!!:eek:
The reason why Celtic have stuttered, aside from the achievements of the managers and teams mentioned above, is largely because of not strengthening the squad sufficiently in the summer, especially in failing to replace Dembele, plus the (continual) injuries to key players, which has meant we've rarely been able to field a settled side especially in defence. That, and (IMO) BR chopping and changing the team too much for league games, to rest players after they've been involved in European competition, which is the primary reason why we've dropped so many points away from home in those games.
Yes, you have to rest players, but when you make seven changes to the first team, instead of two or three, to facilitate that process, that's when you upset the rhythm and subsequently pay the price in substandard performances....
Of course, other teams have had similar problems to contend with, not just Celtic, but they (and Rangers) have played more games than anyone else, with also having to compete in Europe, and in terms of Celtic, in all other competitions too, including playing in and winning a cup final, all of which takes its toll.
If we add some real quality to the squad, particularly up front, to cover for Griffiths, until he recovers from his psychological challenges, then I'd expect us to kick on, but the longer we remain in the Europa League, the more of a toll it will take on the players in the first team, and the harder it will be for us to keep winning in the league. Therefore, if Rangers are to genuinely challenge us (and I'd also expect Kille, Hibs, Aberdeen and Hearts to maintain their high standards), then they'll need to capitalise on us possibly dropping points after playing midweek in Europe.
Valencia will be a tough ask though, so I don't see us remaining in that competition for too long anyway!

the opposite of the last match when Rangers were very lucky with the score line, should have been a few more today, nice to win today but there is still a long way to go
yup, 7-1 in on target shots plus more possession and less bookings is a big improvement, . whether they can continue like that is debatable but it should give them confidence... it was a bit stumbling block that the only win since meltdown was a penalty shoot out.

cheers.. not having Edouard there helped our cause as he scores in big games usually, but the whole Celtic side were bossed today and they created very little. makes a nice wee change and sure it will add a bit of spice to league for a little while at least

appears that Steven Davis, another experienced player will be joining from Southampton soo too. Also seems that Jordan Jones of Killy and Glenn Kamara of Dundee are undergoing medicals for free transfers(for next season).

It's taken Klopp, what, four seasons at Liverpool to get it right? And only now with the (not inconsiderable) help of an ex-Celtic defender, lol... That's how much time is needed to be given to a quality manager, in order to properly implement his playing system and overall 'infrastructure' at a club.
If United had had the balls to do that with Moyes, instead of panicking like they did, they wouldn't have been in the position that they're in now!

Yup, you don't get duffers signing for PSG... If he works out as well as Dembele, I'll be happy. However, I'd like us to actually sign our own players, rather than all these loaners. We've got the money, FFS.
If we plan on winning the title, then we also need to start making plans for starting next season with a team strong enough to come through the CL qualifiers. I don't want another 'AEK Athens' occurring next time!

That lad put in some excellent performances last season, yet for some reason Pep doesn't seem to rate him.
He was set up for a loan move this season, and decided not to sign on the dotted. I'm pleased that he didn't.
Foden did well in both cup games, although he spent much of the second game warming the bench.

He spotted that the keeper was off his line, and knew that the keeper would have his work cut out stopping it, so went for it.

Being my birth place, I always keep one eye on how they're doing.
A team with a big history until all the money was gone under Manager O'Leary and chairman Ridsdale, just after the heady heights of reaching the Champions League semi's.
Some fab players have passed through that club over the years.
Now after being rooted in the Championship and seeing a conveyor belt of managers come and go, they are looking very strong again under respected manager Marcelo Biesela who has managed Argentina and Chile.
Currently sitting at top of the Championship ( a tough league to get out of with plenty of ex Premiership teams fighting)
Still a way to go but if they stay on top they could well be back in the top flight.
Been some great matches with Leeds, Man U, Aresenal, Liverpool etc etc over the years.
And what about spygate ? - sending someone to 'spy' Derby County training, before beating them 2-0.
Not exactly regarded as sportsman like over here, but fairly normal in Argentina apparently.

A team with a big history until all the money was gone under Manager O'Leary and chairman Ridsdale, just after the heady heights of reaching the Champions League semi's.
Some fab players have passed through that club over the years.
Now after being rooted in the Championship and seeing a conveyor belt of managers come and go, they are looking very strong again under respected manager Marcelo Biesela who has managed Argentina and Chile.
Currently sitting at top of the Championship ( a tough league to get out of with plenty of ex Premiership teams fighting)
Still a way to go but if they stay on top they could well be back in the top flight.
Been some great matches with Leeds, Man U, Aresenal, Liverpool etc etc over the years.
And what about spygate ? - sending someone to 'spy' Derby County training, before beating them 2-0.
Not exactly regarded as sportsman like over here, but fairly normal in Argentina apparently.

good workout for 23 players today. rangers beat helsinki 3-2 eventually. full change of side at half time; a lot of youngsters got a run out..21k crowd too.. Jordan Houson looked a prospect at right back. Steven Davis looked like he'd never been away. Defoe; well he did some runs

Disappointing result tonight after a bright start, still a lot of work on the new diamond formation. Too many in midfield in the same areas of the pitch, not too mention some shocking defending. Worrell who is clearly right footed playing on the left side - someone needs to explain that to me.
Thought it was an awful performance. What it needed was some dynamic play not lumping balls about.
Why warrall gets a game over katic I dont know. Gerrard showing his lack of nous.

I have cursed at Riyad Mahrez, and his completely unpredictable behaviour of "get it onto my left foot" all season.
Tonight he lays off a really sweet ball for Sergio Aguero to guide into the net, and Mahrez' final touch was a fine effort from his right foot.
Frustrating isn't in it!

Doubt you'll finish fourth...No chance. Worst for me, third, but most likely second, behind us. I do get the feeling though that we're upping the gears now and really pushing on for the second half of the season. The new signings have made a big difference, especially Weah - and Burke was fantastic tonight, with his pace and power and two goals...
And we've still got Bayo to come... Hey, even Scotty Sinclair is starting to look like his old self again!:D Oh, and I haven't even mentioned the £9m Edouard...
Defensively too, we look solid, thanks to the pairing of Boyata and Benkovic, who look (almost) world class. It's up front in particular though, and on the wings, where we're starting to look frightening.
Thing is, if you tally up the transfer value of our players, especially the on-loan ones (the wages of which we're still paying), it makes the other teams in the SPL, including Rangers, look distinctly 'toytown' - so we *should* be winning more games than anyone else, and the gap should also be much bigger than it is.
Didn't stop you beating us at Ibrox, though - and I'm sure that won't be the only game we'll lose between now and the end of the season either... The real test for us though, will come against Valencia. We'll see where we're really 'at', in terms of quality, when we face them, that is as long as we have no injuries to key players, which has been a big problem for us recently!

For the 20 minutes Killie had no idea how to play against the formation then they re-organised and scored but rangers still had plenty of chances to win the game. Saying that Killie played to their strengths and are a hard team to beat. Steve Clarke is clearly a better coach.

Players are extremely inconsistent and lack something. As to the oldies in our side. Fortunately the 3 of them are only contracted til June.
Yup, watched Defoe on Sunday and he looked well off the pace, but that'll probably come. Doubt he's fully fit. Thought you'd win tonight, though. Bet it was baltic tonight up in Cowdenbeath!:eek:

It can sometimes be hard getting wins at those types of grounds, so it was also a good result for you guys:)

Excellent result for us today, with a (very hard fought) 0-2 win against St Johnstone, which preserves our 6-point lead at the top of the SPL, although at some cost, injury-wise. We lost Lustig, Edouard and Forrest, and finished the game with nine men, after Ajer was sent off late in the game - and we'd already used all our subs, when Forrest limped off.
Let's hope they're all ok, as our injury list is starting to pile up again, and which has plagued us all season... Good job we've got a big squad (full of quality players)!:doh:
Bayo might need to be drafted in earlier than planned, if Edouard is going to be out again for a bit, as Burke can't do it all on his own, and Weah's still young and won't be played in every game. St Johnstone were very physical, but I guess you can't really blame them. Our class, however, shone through in the end, despite some heroics from their keeper, without which it would've been 4 or 5.
And, since Brown's signed his 2-year deal, he's almost like a new player, and producing truly world-class displays in midfield (spraying around some superb passes), and Burke also looks fab. However, the star of the show, with his goal and assist, as a sub, was Weah. I said that this guy would be a sensation, and he's certainly looking like it so far, and only liable to get better! His pace, positional awareness and link up play are in the highest rank.
Our new on-loan right-back, from Borussia Dortmund, Toljan, also got a game, when he replaced the injured Lustig, and he showed some really nice touches and link-up play with the forwards, and never wasted a pass. He certainly looks like an exciting prospect. If we can get all our top players fit and into a starting 11, we've got the makings of a top side, and one that should give Valencia a decent game, when that one comes along!:)

Every team and their fans thinks similar about its rivals. People forget how fast the game is now. Even VAR gets it wrong. It's just part of the game for vast majority. You do occasionally get a ref who dislikes a team, a d goes against them regularly. That's more likely to happen than the other way. It's human nature

No worries, Robin. I like Celtic TV for all the player and manager interviews, etc, and of course they show every Celtic game in HD, on a delayed transmission. Costs me £80 a year, but it's worth it because living down here, I get hee-haw Celtic news on normal TV:)

As you are aware Marco, the Old Firm dominate the news up here, lots of news of local tv and newspapers.
At the moment I really only have time to catch up with the highlights online or where ever, although if the rangers are on Sky or BT I will try and watch the game live. Might all change in a few weeks when I take early retirement.

I also tune into Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, on their Internet Podcast, on Saturdays, to get my 'fix', as I always used to listen to that when I was up in Glasgow, and even sometimes call the phone-in, which can be a bit of a giggle!:eyebrows:

With all the injuries we have to key players, I don't hold up much hope, as for me, the *only* way we had a chance of winning this match, or doing enough over the two games to get through to the next round, was with a full-strength side, and that'll be far from the case...
However, we'll see! For me, to have ANY kind of chance at all tonight, we need to take a two-goal lead to Spain - and without conceding any. That's a BIG ask.

Lol, I don't disagree with your view, but our recent good form has been against Scottish opposition; this will be a BIG step up, as Valencia are also in good form, and certainly no mugs.
It's defensively where I have my concerns... It seems that Craig Gordon's being brought back in as goalkeeper, despite not having played for the last 8 games (as Bain has taken his place and been excellent, not losing a goal), so there's no way that Gordon will be match sharp - and for such an important European game...:hmm:
I'd have left Bain in, as he's proven himself eminently capable, especially in the big games. So for me, if it's true that Gordon's being brought back into the team, that's a mistake. Isaguirre is just back from a fairly nasty injury, so I can't see him lasting 90 mins, and could be suspect before that too, if he's not 100% fit, which I doubt. And I wanted Benkovic fit for this game, as he's an outstanding defender, but which unfortunately hasn't happened.
On the positive side, Simunovic (much like Sinclair, the the other end of the pitch) has come onto a bit of a game and looks much more solid than he was before, so let's hope that continues tonight. And Boyata is back, although I'm not sure he'll be 100% fit either, as he's not long back either from injury. The big plus is Tolfan, at right-back, who's looked IMMENSE, since arriving from Borussia Dortmund. The boy's clearly a class act, defensively and going forward, with his pace, down the wing.
Midfield and upfront, where we're strongest, will take care of itself, although once again how fit Edouard [our lone striker] will be is another question mark, as he too has only recently returned from injury. Therefore, I'm expecting our (very strong) bench to have an impact on this game, with possible crucial contributions from Burke and Weah - and one of them may score the winner!
I'll certainly be glued to the TV, watching it in 4K UHD, on BT Sport. However, by the end, I may having bitten all my fingernails down to the quick!!:eek::cool:

I see he's gone with Bain, in goal, so for me that's good, as it continues the consistency of selection, although it'll be a tough test for him. Plus, Burke's also the lone striker up front, with Edouard and Weah on the bench, so we'll see how it goes!:cool:
