Manchester City's pre season is not entirely fooked, although it could be construed as such.
There are a ton of players that have only just finished with their World Cup adventures.
They're all on leave for three weeks, which is approximately how long it will be until the Community Shield game takes place at Wembley.
Good grief - we're playing Arsenal the following weekend, at The Emirates
Indeed, it's difficult, but try having players coming back from World Cup duty AND having to play FOUR Champions League qualifiers, even when you won your league, and mostly all before the season starts!!
Compared with us, you've got it easy...;)
This could be an interesting signing for us, if it comes off :https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6791118/newcastle-celtic-uruguay-18million-world-cup-giorgian-de-arrascaeta/
Marco.
rangers have their away tie in round one of the europa today.. starts at 5pm i think, so it will be very hot. hopefully they can get the job done; an early goal would do nicely but feel it may be a slog
Yeah, good luck in that one, mate. I'm sure you'll be fine:)

Overall, can be happy with the clean sheet and the overall result, if not the play. Not much to get excited about play wise, but there is a lot of anxiety in the side at moment, and a lack of ability up front.
Sure Gerrard knows this fully, and hopeful we get some new players in up top soon. El Buffalo will become a good player, but he is way to anxious at moment.....and has a heid like a thrupenny bit

How's this for an unrepresentative squad for a US pre-season tour https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44859112 ?
Lol. Shows strength in depth as few will get a game in league

Yup, but the main thing is you're winning key games and look much more solid. Trust me, that will be the case throughout the season: Gerrard will ensure that Rangers will be much more difficult to beat than last season - especially at Ibrox!

Going to need to be both hard to beat and scary to meet. Lol
I see young Ryan Kent from Liverpool is coming for the season after signing a new long term contract with pool. I believe he can blow hot n cold so will need all Gerard's guiding hands to get best out of him and our own Middleton who is s bit younger.
Still awaiting forward in striking reinforcements

might not get any unless we progress. either way he still wants to let the guys there to think they are first choice, for now anyway
you winger Ryan Kent officially signed for a year...
Got a hard game in Europe tonight over in Croatia. Also a good chance we will sign Manchester City midfielder Kean Bryan very soon. He can play at back too. Patrick Vierra was keen on him at one time. Pun intended
Hope you get a decent result, mate, as we did last night:)

another clean sheet and a goal off El buffalo's head cant be bad at this stage and away. Dons managed a draw v Burnley and Hibs got a home win 3-2 after being behind.
Good away win, mate. I see that Hibs also won at home, albeit it by conceding two away goals. It'll be tough for them to get through, but they've got a chance, and Aberdeen got a decent draw against Burnley.

Yeah not great in the first half, first two goals were decent though
First half was awful although defending was bearable.
Stevie gave them a bollocking and they were a different team. A lot of fringe players got an outing and no injuries for Thursday. Good to see Arfield play 20 mins and big Sadiq looks like he could be a handful when fit. Just don't ask him to run with the ball [emoji23]

Good result for Celtic, watched the first hour or so
Cheers, mate. We held in there and had a couple of chances in the second half, but we can be much better - and we'll need to be against AEK Athens in the next round!
Still, two down, two to go, and the team are neither at full strength or full fitness, so not bad. We missed Dembele tonight. I think when him and Edouard get it together as a partnership, they'll be devastating.
Good luck at Ibrox tomorrow against NK Osijek. Let's hope for Scottish football that both Rangers and Celtic make it through to their respective competitions!

Thanks Marco, hopefully a good result tomorrow as well, thought the Celtic central defence looked a bit dodgy in the first half and Forrest looked lost
Yeah, we're missing Boyata and Jozo there, who will be back for the next round. Jamsie usually plays his best games at home. I'll be watching the Rangers game on TV tomorrow:)

thats good.. quite fancied him tbh, but if he has an issue or is not 100% committed then its better not to happen ...
still awaiting some striker, and hopefully not lafferty. dont think he handles pressure of a big club so well.
playing tonight in europe 2nd leg with a 1-0 lead, but team told to call it 0-0 which is wise. we need to win the game.

I suspect that Sheffield United were his preferred option, as it's not too far a move away from home (he's a born and raised Mancunian).
Sheffield United got a good deal too, as he went on a free transfer.
He's been with City throughout his development, so City are in line for a decent percentage of any future transfer deals.

Rangers through to play Maribor next. ended 1-1; opposition snatching a late goal. Told it was a decent, and fairly open game.
Hibs got through too after a 1-1 draw but Dons going out in Extra time to Burnley. Good showing from them tho...

Not me. Just going on reports from mates who were. Croat fans caused trouble outside b4 match. Scum
I was alternating between the Rangers and Aberdeen game. Aberdeen did well and were unlucky. They had their chances, but in the end Burnley had just a bit too much quality. Hibs pulled of a fantastic result!
In terms of Rangers, this is the first time I've seen them play since Gerrard took over, and although they're still very much 'work in progress', I'll tell you one thing for sure: no way will they be getting humped so easily by Celtic this season...:nono:
They're MUCH more solid looking and organised than they were last year, and as such less prone to losing silly goals. And in Allan McGregor they're got a top-class goalkeeper (he was precisely that too, last time he was at Rangers, now more experienced), and he made some great saves tonight, to keep Rangers in it against a Croatian side who were defo no mugs.
Katić scored a good header and was impressive throughout, with his positional sense and distribution of the ball, and I was also impressed with Kent, and his delivery of the ball from set-pieces, especially corner kicks. I can see the team scoring a few goals this season from his wickedly whipped-in corners! I was also impressed with the way Rangers pressed the game and the high tempo they played at.
Downsides? The defensive organisation at times lacked cohesion and some of the defending itself was a little naive. Tavernier is not a natural defender and much more suited to going forward, where he can be a threat down the wing. And at the other end of the park, aside from Morelos, I don't see any prolific goal scorers, who can get 25-30 goals a season, unlike Celtic have in abundance, and even Morelos himself blows hot and cold, so for me that's something they'll need to address if they're seriously going to challenge Celtic for the title.
That said, I'll confidently predict that Rangers will be up there this season, beat smaller teams that they struggled to do last season, and will give Celtic, especially at Ibrox, some tough games! Can't wait until it all kicks off this weekend!
Marco.

We are certainly looking better than a few months ago, but still need a few players.
I’m sure we will find out more about the disturbance before the game in the coming days.
We shouldn't have lost a daft goal in the 92nd minute, purely from lack of concentration, but pleased with our 3-1 win against Livingston and the first three points of the season!:)
Should be a good one tomorrow at Pittodrie with Aberdeen and Rangers. I think Rangers will just sneak it:cool:

Noticed you lost a late goal. Silly loss of concentration only.
Impossible to predict how game goes tomorrow. Should be a decent game for viewers tho. I'm more interested in ger's not losing silly goals and thus games It's Gerard's first season and quite happy for him to bed in and show improvement from last year. It wasn't as bad a season as often claimed as they were top scorers and only a point off second. And hibs just behind.
Expecting hearts and Killy to be in the mix this year too
Just getting the Barby sorted for tonight's dinner, so currently short of time. However, here are some quick thoughts on today's game:
1) Aberdeen were shocking and clearly suffering from post-European blues! Until they scored their late goal, they'd done nothing in the game, aside from huffing and puffing a lot, even after Rangers went down to 10 men. Like Rangers, they also badly need a quality striker.
2) If Celtic had played them today, in that state, they'd have beaten them two or three nil, minimum, so Rangers still need more firepower up front, to kill teams off, although they did well with their 10 men.
3) The sending off of Morelos was harsh, although his temperament can sometimes be a liability. He needs to curb his tempestuousness!
4) Overall it was a pretty boring match, with little goalmouth action to entertain the fans, and especially neutrals.
5) As I stated before, Rangers won't lose many goals this season (barring any injuries to key players), as they're MUCH more solid and better organised than last year - *but* there's not much sign of flair or real attacking threat. It's all a bit dour/workmanlike and predictable.
They still need to sign a few players, particularly a top-quality striker, who's good for 25-30 goals a season, and can do the biz in the BIG games. It's glaringly obvious that Morelos needs someone of quality playing alongside him, to feed off of. Thing is, can Rangers afford someone like that?:hmm:
Marco.
Chris, have you seen this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45075280
It's an interesting one! Robin made the point recently that James Forrest (our current winger) was rather "lost" in the away game against Rosenborg, which I agreed with (he's a good player, but ultimately for me not Champions League class), and we've missed Paddy Roberts, so Arzani could be the answer:)
Do you know anything about him?
Marco
pretty much what the lads said. wasnt really keeping an eye on it. shame they lost an injurytime goal, and thats the second late goal in row theyve let in... need to remember it lasts til final whistle.

There's a lot of business being done nowadays - the CFA is a business in its own right, and Arzani being signed from Melbourne might turn out to be similar to Aaron Mooy being signed not so far back.
Someone has been watching him play, and thinks he might blossom in tougher leagues.
CFG will give him the opportunity to catch Guardiola's eye next closed season, and in between now and then he needs to go out and build a reputation for himself.
Rodgers doesn't look to be too crestfallen with the situation :eyebrows:
I was very pleased with young Phil Foden today - the lad is going to get a lot more game time this coming season. He has more than acquitted himself today.
I'm also a bit more relaxed about City's visit to The Emirates next week, when the season kicks off - the whole City team are looking fit and well prepared, and exuding confidence.
Our title defence starts next Sunday.
Today was a good final game to the pre-season :)
Chelsea 0 - Manchester City 2
Think Liverpool will be your main rivals this year. Man U well down the table this year.

I don't disagree with you, Grant.
We only lost 5 games in all competitions last season, and they won 3 of them.
With the recent acquisition of Allison Liverpool have a top class keeper, which hasn't been the case for a good while.
If Salah can manage to recreate his form from last season they'll be a formidable force.
City have good motivation - they have a title to defend :)
Yup Becker is a quality signing. The other 3 are not too bad either especially fabiano

No, as I'm pretty sure he'll be an excellent addition to the team, particularly if he links up well with this Oz team mate, Rogic. If Arzani is in a similar ballpark, quality-wise, to Paddy Roberts, and as successful at Celtic as he was, I'll be delighted!

I'm sorry, but Gerrard must've been watching a different game from me!
I stick by everything I wrote earlier. Rangers have just drawn with a tired Aberdeen team, who'd come back from having played extra time in a tough match on Thursday, against Burnley in Europe, and simply weren't at the races until they threw caution to the wind at the end, to try and salvage a point, which they duly did.
But although Rangers did well enough with 10 men, and created a couple of chances to extend their lead, they were hardly "a class above". They did ok but ultimately only left with a point. For "a class above", see how Celtic played with 10 men against Rangers last season at Ibrox... Sorry, not being biased here, simply a realist.
I like Gerrard, and predict he'll be a success at Rangers, but in future he'll need to take off his blue-tinted specs, and be a little more realistic in his appraisal of his team during post-match interviews!

Historical records of success are all well and good, but it's history, and means sod all on the field.
What happens in the here and now is all that matters.
Last time I was up close to the Premier League Trophy I looked at the names of all the teams that have won it.
There were no clubs beginning with L on it.
Since then Leicester have won it, so that's changed - there's a team won it with a name beginning with L :D

Last season was great to witness, but that's now history.
My head starts to spin just thinking of the points accrued, and the records broken - it was a truly remarkable season, but that is now history, and it won't win us the next game.
All that matters for me right now is that the team prepare well and beat Arsenal next weekend.
Arsenal may do better this year. Think I had them in 4th in my preseason order, with Man U in 5th and Chelsea in 3rd.
Obviously no games played yet so just early thoughts. City are more stable so get vote initially from Liverpool
Had killy, hearts rangers and dons in that order too although that's still to be given serious thought after a few games to see how players bed in. Think the teams could all be in with a shout for second for a while. 1st should be beyond any for this season at least but you never say never in both leagues

For me the defence of a title is the elusive one!
It hasn't been done in a decade, and the last time was by our neighbours from Trafford.
That is number one priority - defend that title.
The thing is, with Guardiola at the helm we won't be doing it by playing defensive football. It will be done in the belief that attack is the best form of defence.
I believe that I'm going to be seeing some astonishing football this coming season.
First home game is against Huddersfield weekend after next, and I can barely wait :)

hope so, and not just city...
..Croatia defender Borna Barisic is having Rangers medical at moment. left back, but can play across the line i think. He played 2 games against us in europe recently... 3 caps so should be decent. certainly played well against us.
..I take it Declan John will maybe be going, probably on loan. I expect Flanagan to move to right and Tavernier maybe out on wing.

Historical records of success are all well and good, but it's history, and means sod all on the field.
What happens in the here and now is all that matters.
Absolutely. I've no idea why you're bringing this up though, as I was referring to the here and now.
Here and now (as well as in the past) I've always been a Liverpool and Celtic supporter, since the days of great Scots in the Liverpool team, such as Hansen, Souness and Dalglish, when Liverpool dominated Europe, not just England. That's why, here and now, I want Liverpool to win the EPL this season, same as I did last year, and the year before that, etc...:)
Last time I was up close to the Premier League Trophy I looked at the names of all the teams that have won it.
There were no clubs beginning with L on it.
Well, since you've brought it up, last time I was up close to the European Cup/CL trophy, I looked at all the names of the teams that have won it. There were no clubs beginning with 'M" on it.... No, hang on, there was.......It was MANCHESTER UTD!:eyebrows:
There was even a team on it, beginning with 'C', representing a wee group of Glasgow daftees, who won it the year after England won the World Cup, but try as hard as I could, I couldn't find 'Manchester City' on it anywhere...:hmm:
:eyebrows::ner:
Marco.
Rangers have signed Croatia left back and defender Borna Barisic
Personally I think this is a good bit of business. May be pushing tavenier forward to wing or we may be going 352.
Good signing, but it's another striker you need, mate.
Marco.
Waiting on the English market closing I think
Yup, possibly. That's also when I expect Celtic to act and conclude their business in the transfer market.
It would be interesting to know how much Gerrard has spent so far on signings. Have any transfer fees been mentioned? if so, any idea how much has been spent?:)
Marco.
About 8 million plus wages etc and probably some payoffs.
Oh yes plus sign on fees think the 2 croats were about 2 mil or so each. Goldson was over 3. Murphy was 1. Rest have been frees or loans

Not bad, then. The board seem to be backing him to a decent degree, What about transfers out? Has any money been made on Caixinha's disastrous 'signings'?

Might get a few quid back on Waghorn after giving him away
Anyway, here's my top 6 prediction (based on the premise of Aberdeen not imminently strengthening their forward line):
Celtic
Rangers
Hibs
Hearts
Kilmarnock
Aberdeen
Should Aberdeen sign a decent striker in the next month or so, then I'd revise my prediction thus:
Celtic
Rangers
Hibs
Aberdeen
Hearts
Kilmarnock
Let's have yours then, Robin and Grant:)
Marco.
Not sure yet, but something like
Celtic
Rangers
Kilmarnock
Hearts
Aberdeen
Hibs
but i reserve right to change this depending on signings etc.
Seems to be more potential transfer activity on horizon at ibrox. Incoming bids for tavenier and windass and 2 bosnians on radar.

Lol - I guess Brendan Rodgers did, when he moved from managing Liverpool, and almost winning them the English Premiership title, to Celtic!;)
Plus, I think some of the EPL teams who've come to Celtic Park on Champions League duty, and were either beaten or given a damn good game, in that respect most recently Man City, would've taken Celtic, thus Scottish football, 'seriously'.
And last week Burnley only just put out Aberdeen in the Europa League, over two legs and extra time, despite them being in a totally different financial league, so I'm sure they'd also have taken Aberdeen 'seriously. I could go on...

Defender Steven Caulker is also supposedly on Gerrard's radar. think he was a product of Spurs academy and has looked good in his spell with Dundee..
Arman Hozdic is one of the Bosnians ..not sure who the other one is....Think he was at Liverpool at one time as Robin says so Gerrard will know him... only 23 and his career has stalled of late, with his rating going down to 85...still a lot of potential there I think.

I think our teams are inclined to do rather better in one of games in Europe than they would on a daily grind. After saying that, Rangers and Celtic are huge clubs, with a rather bigger worldwide fan base that Man City as an example, and if they had access to the PL's millions and a sugardaddy, I'm pretty sure they would be in top 10 every year.
Trouble is, they bring issues with them, and obviously would harm the interests of English sides, and are thus not welcome.... which is, as unfair as it seems, a correct decision for me.
I do think Euro competitions need revising badly tho.
I'm only Joshing ;)...but it does beg the age old question...
would the top 2 in Scotland finish in the top half of the Premiership?...
Lol - I'll get to that one properly later! Grant touches on it, though, with the money aspect. *That* is the key, and how both Rangers and Celtic would thus be able to attract better players, and evolve from there.
Certainly both teams at present, particularly Celtic, would be good enough to stay up, thus allowing the above process, should it ever happen (and there's no chance) to unfold in due course.
Marco.
Other Bosnian is Elvir Koljic. 6' 3" striker. again 23..

There is no chance of the two clubs playing in England, there are only a couple teams in England that have similar attendances for their home games, I always follow Bournemouth as lived there for 10 years but their new ground is less than half the size of either of the Old firm grounds and they have just spent over 20 million on a new midfielder.
Both the Scottish clubs would be fine if given access to similar funds.
Agreed! So your top 6 prediction for this season's SPL is...?
Stop avoiding it, lol!;)

I see you slipped up a bit. No worries sure you will score over there too. Need to get as many teams through as we can
Hopefully Celtic obtain the result they need in the return leg
Mmm... I wish I shared the enthusiasm of you guys. For me, based on our not exactly wonderful away record and the loss of the away goal, we've got two hopes of getting through to the next round: Bob Hope and no hope!
We're badly missing Dembele up front, who in the big games always delivers. In the first game against Alashkert, his combo with Edouard looked devastating, then he got injured (again) and is now out for weeks.... Plus, I think the lack of new signings arriving, to strengthen the squad, in positions where we've lost key players, such as Armstrong and Roberts, before these very important qualifying games have taken place, will now come back to haunt us..
As such, I'm almost certain we'll be joining you guys in the Europa League. But we'll see...
It'll take a monumental effort by Celtic to get through, as I'm almost certain AEK will score over there, as our (yet again) makeshift and inexperienced, defence simply isn't up to keeping a clean sheet (unless Boyata returns). As such, I feel we'll need to score two goals over there to get through, and against such a well-organised team like AEK (as was evident last night, when they went down to 10 men), that's a tough ask!
Marco.
they were a difficult team to break down, but you mostly controlled the game. they will be obliged to come out a bit at home i would think so may be easier to nick one or 2.
i see mcginn is away to villa(my villa mate is very happy lol). cant help feeling that was a mistake by the celtic board; not just in losing the player, who im sure will become more valuable, but it may irk the manager and thus pass down to players.
In terms of the first bit, possibly (and hopefully), but I'd have been more confident had Dembele been fit. In terms of the last bit, most definitely, although I doubt it will affect the manager or players, Rodgers simply isn't the type to do, or allow that.
It's Celtic's own fault though that they let McGinn go, by low-balling so much with their offers to Hibs. I think they offered £3m for him, so how much did he go for to Villa? They could've easily afforded more, as the £9m they paid for Edouard was essentially 'free', due to the sell-on fee that they received from Van Dijk. And Neil Lennon was quite right in holding out for the highest bid, and also ultimately, if at all possible, not wanting to sell to one of his rivals.
Therefore, in reality, Celtic have spent hee-haw so far this season - a season where they knew that they had to potentially go through a very difficult extra round in the CL qualifiers. Let's hope (for Celtic's sake) that Rodgers has another similar quality of midfielder up his sleeve, and can bring him in before the window closes, and also can get Arzani in, as otherwise, even if we do get to the CL proper, we'll be well short of the quality we need to have a hope of doing anything!
Marco.
Dont know the fee yet but know Celtic matched Villa's offer late in day, but rightly McGinn probably had enough of the disrespect they showed him, plus he is more likely to play for Villa every week .
we lost 2 players just before the English deadline. Windass to Wigan and John to Swansea.

Good second half performance last night, hopefully all the Scottish sides can make it through.
Good result. At 3-1, I think you'll be fine. We've played Maribor before in CL qualifiers. They're a tougher prospect at home, and could well score over there, so as long as you keep it tight at the back and try and sneak a goal, you'll be ok:)
Marco.
maribor have been an irritant to scottish sides for a long time and were unbeaten since, ironically we humped them out way back in 2001, so it will be a feather in his cap if he gets the desired result next week.
going to be tough tho, as i think flanagan will be suspended, thus will be relying on halliday at left back, unless we change shape.
maribor have been an irritant to scottish sides for a long time...
Yup, and so have Greek teams, who are also currently unbeaten in that respect. Remember, for example, what AEK Athens did to Walter Smith's Rangers, in season 94/95, in the days when they had aspirations of going all the way in the competition? Let's hope that Celtic can help avenge it!
Interesting link, btw, and how the Scottish coefficient stands, in terms of Europe: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/scotland/45138169
We're doing ok so far this season, but still have much work to do for things to overall improve in future!:)
Marco.
Hearing Dembele may be fit for return leg
Well, if true, that would certainly make a big difference! The thing about this game, is that Celtic won't play it in the same way as, say, they would an away fixture in the group stages of the CL proper, where the accent would always be on caution.
*This* is a genuine, full-blown cup tie, and Celtic's undoubtedly most important game of he season, so although they won't go 'gung-ho' to start with, if the score remains the same as it currently stands, by the end of the 1st half, or if Celtic should go behind at that stage, then in the second-half (or at least for certain the last 30 mins), they'll throw everything at it, as they'll have nothing to lose - and in that respect, Dembele could make all the difference!
I also hear that Arzani is defo on his way from Man City, but it'll be too soon for him yet to make a difference to our European campaign.
Going back to the forthcoming AEK Athens tie, it wouldn't surprise me that even though tomorrow's game is a big one against Hearts at Tynecastle, Rodgers rests a few key first team players, simply to keep them fresh and injury-free for Tuesday night's game, which is so vitally important. That's certainly what I'd be doing if I were him, especially as Hearts will be physical as usual.
Quite simply at this stage in the season, beating AEK and getting through to the playoff round of the CL qualifiers is more important than securing 3 points against Hearts, although no doubt we'll be trying very hard for both!
Marco.
yup, when in europe you have to rest some players, especially ones that run a lot. wingers etc.
expect a few changes at ibrox for the visit of st mirren, which will be a toughy as big Stubbs hates our guts:D
Lol.... Yeah, in that respect, you've got him AND Lennon now to contend with!:eyebrows:
Regarding what we've just discussed, if Isaguirre is fully fit (see following link), I'd expect him to come in and take the place of Tierney, as he's played for us for years and knows exactly what he's doing, good player, too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45136402
Tierney is defo one I'd rest, as he was OUTSTANDING on Wednesday against AEK, and will be one of our best chances over there for creating, or even scoring, a goal!
I'd also rest Ntcham and Edouard, give Scott Allan a go, and play Griffiths up front on his own, or perhaps alongside Ryan Christie. Possibly also bring Hayes in. Give Hearts something different to think about.
Marco.
Sad buggers. Oh well Hoping to see our new signing barisic play. Looked good in both matches v us.

Yup, good result. I predicted that Rangers would be hard to beat this season, especially at home, and so far that's proved to be the case. St Mirren will be a tougher prospect when they're at home, and crucially, once they've got more used to life in the SPL.
As also predicted, we rested a few key players against Hearts, and ultimately paid the penalty, at a ground where it's hard enough to win with your full first team. The players looked pretty disjointed and probably had their minds on the game with AEK.
However, it did highlight the fact that the overall squad needs strengthened before the transfer window closes, so I hope Rodgers can achieve that. We also need Boyata back in defence, as Simunovic clearly isn't good enough, and was culpable for the goal we conceded on Saturday. Good news is that Dembele is travelling to Greece, so if he's fit and plays, that could prove to be vital.
Marco.

The last time there was any attempt to have British involvement in a football tournament the respective FAs (well all bar the English FA) pissed on the idea ;)
Interesting piece today about the Premier League, and how many clubs would turn a healthy profit without all the tedium of having to have supporters involved with things such as attending games :eyebrows:

More interesting (and quoted from the article) is that five clubs at the top of the pile couldn't turn a profit without match day revenues
None of the Premier League's top five money makers - Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea - would have made a profit without matchday incomes being included.

If you'd put down "a footballer who's so far spent most of his career playing in the UK" then I wouldn't have responded, because that is correct.
There is no British football, for the reasons outlined.
There should be, for occasions such as the Olympics, as the countries that constitute the UK compete there as Team GB.
Three of the FAs disagree with me.
And before anyone here starts to go off on one about football not being an Olympic sport, try telling that to Lionel Messi, Pablo Zabaleta, Sergio Aguero, and a host of other Argentine players - they all have Olympic Gold medals for football.
As for the article - I just found it intriguing that so many clubs would be better off not having supporters turning up.

Dunno the reason why no quality cover was got in but guessing the couldn't get the right guy for right money.

I dunno - if Celtic have spent £2m on disco lights for CL games then he does have a fair point.
They should have put the £2m towards sorting out their defence.
The goals they conceded last night were really soft, and they weren't exactly being pressed when they conceded.
They need some defenders that don't stand there ball watching.
Excellent result for Rangers - and so their European journey continues (McGregor was outstanding)! :)
I'll talk about Celtic's woeful CL exit, at the hands of AEK Athens, sometime later. I've been too pissed off to talk about it so far... Anyway, Rangers continue to keep the Scottish flag flying (along with, at the moment anyway, Celtic), as unfortunately HIbs are now out.

Yes Celtic are still good side, they have lost 2 games back to back and it’s a big deal. For Rangers they have a chance to progress in Europe for the first time about 2011.
Rangers resurgence under Steven Gerrard continues with an excellent 1-3 win v Kilmarnock at Rugby Pk. Picked up at least 1 injury tho and murphy was hurt. Goldson was limping too so dunno re him. Young Morelos scored a hat trick too, as he continues to impress.

Sergio got a hat trick, taking his club goals scored tally up to 204.
Silva scored an absolute peach of a free kick.
Jesus scored a gem of a goal.
Sane was involved in the 6th, which turned out to be a forced own goal for Huddersfield.
Benjamin Mendy for me was man of the match, as it was he that provided the assists for the 5 goals from open play.
And last, but not least, Phil Foden came on late in the game, and proved to be a proper handful for the Huddersfield defence.

Last season every time the opposition had a corner you thought they would score.

shouldn't get bullied now anyway...
another thing is although we have brought in 12 players, we have lost 20, so the depth isnt as large, but the quality is much higher. Time will tell if we have enough to last a season; personally i think we are still 2 or three short, especially with the injuries we have.

Exactly only a couple leagues in, a long way to as you probably still need another couple of squad players.
Well a 1-0 lead to take to Russia next week. We should have done more with our possession although it was difficult with the officials being either blind or in receipt of the ruble. One of the worst ref displays ive seen tbh.
Still I think we can score over there so all is not lost. the clean sheet may yet be our salvation.
in the other game with Scottish interest, Marco's Celtic managed a 1-1 away, and should easily win at home, against, a pretty poor side, I'm told. Celtic should have won that.
Anyway both sides can feel they can progress to the groups.

Hopefully both teams will qualify, a second goal would have been good for Rangers. Watched some of the Celtic game shocking coverage by Premier sports.
Nearly as bad the the referee in Rangers game.
Terrell Brown..6'10" and 388lbs... bet footballers are glad he plays the American version.

not been watching footie recently, since the euro game. I fell out with Gers over a stream that i got late then when i complained they never even read the email but sent me a standard reply...(now sorted as I have received a full refund but no apolege ... typical of them and was surprised to get cash back.
Dave King if your reading, get your staff sorted out ;)
anyway I see we drew with Well, losing 3 goals in a new formation. was a strange formation in that we dont really have the players for it at moment. Also see we are in market again, with Eros Grezda of Osijek coming in(likely) for £2m.. a 23 year old left winger. Also trying to loan Notts F's defender Joe Warrell. He was instrumental in England's u21 run apparently.. surprised if we get him.

It was bloody diabolical. The sound cut out for a while, and the general amateurish look of the overall coverage was a joke. If our defence turn up, we should get through. I hope that Rangers get through their tie.
However, as I said to a Rangers-supporting family friend at the weekend, I wouldn't fancy Celtic to beat Balmaha Wanderers right now, such is the malaise that currently surrounds the club (for various reasons). We scraped passed Hamilton, at home at the weekend, thanks to a goal from Boyata, of all people!
And if we don't strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes, we can kiss ta-ta to the title. I'm pretty confident that Rangers will get a least a point on Sunday.

Will worry about Sunday ,after the trip to Russia but certainly a bit more hopefully now than I was a few weeks ago.
If the same defence plays, which played before the Motherwell game, Robin, you'll be fine, as I think you can score over there:)
What you don't want though, with Sunday's game in mind, is the match going to extra time and/or pens. The same of course applies to us, although we don't have any travelling to do.
Marco.

the rangers tv stream was quite good, when it started for me. they need to improve both their instructions and their customer service tho. wasnt cheap for 1 game ... Still never got an apology.. poor

The Russian game is much more important than the old firm game. its a must get through match. if we are at our best we should unless the ref decides otherwise.;)
also i see Morelos has been selected for the Columbia squad.. that should up his game a bit.:)

Cool... 3-0 sees us through! Folks can say what they like about Boyata, but with him in the team, the defence is much more solid. Will watch the game on Celtic TV later.

2 teams through which is an improvement
Yup, that's what I wanted, as it's good for Scottish football:)
Now onto Sunday, where anything could happen! What will the Celtic team be? Will Dembele still be there? Are Benkovic and Mulumbu on the way, and will either or both play on Sunday?:hmm:
Marco.
As expected. A comfortable win. First time for a decade we've had 2 sides in group stages.
Heard ur getting mulumbu. He's a good player. Wanted him at ours
Yup, I was impressed with his performances last season for Killie. Benkovic is a player, too - all £13m of him! Even though he'd only be on loan, if we get him, he's top notch and would really help our Europa League aspirations.
Marco.
I hear that you guys are in Pot 4, and we're in Pot 2. We'll see what teams we both get in our respective groups tomorrow!:)
Marco.
Won't be in same group tho.
Benkovic wages will be very high. Maybe dembele is gonna go after all
No, they can't be in the same group. I'm hoping we get one of the English Premiership sides, as I love the 'Battles of Britain'! Dembele will be touch and go. My feeling is that he'll be off to Lyon before the weekend, but of course I hope he stays.
If he goes though, it'll be for big money (can't see it being less than £15m), and that then will be spent on a suitable replacement (as Rodgers is on record as saying he needs three strikers), which of course will mean the addition of another top-quality player to the squad. Celtic will be off-loading some players too, which will free up cash to go towards the wages for Benkovic.
It's easy for Celtic to balance the books because of the player assets they have. That's the biggest difference at the moment between Rangers and Celtic. The assets Celtic currently have at their disposal, player-wise, are just vastly superior.
Whilst I reckon that both teams are capable of beating each other on the pitch, Celtic are currently operating in a totally difference financial league, which aside from anything else, the wage bill at the end of the year for both clubs will ably demonstrate!
However, that doesn't guarantee anything, in terms of results on the park. We'll see what happens, in that respect, on Sunday, and realistically how far Rangers have closed the gap. I think it'll be a cracking game:)
Marco.
Heard that dembele has a chronic injury problem so might be best all round if he goes.
With the traveling and the injuries not too hopeful of winning at your place tbh.

BT Sport didn't have the rights to the Celtic or the Rangers game https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/7118110/celtic-vs-suduva-live-stream-tv-channel-time-team-news-europa-league/
The clubs had the rights for their respective home games, and sold them off to the highest bidder. It's got cock all to do with English bias. BT Sport were outbid, plain and simple.
Burnley were happy with BT Sport's offer, which is why it was on the TV.
Now that Celtic and Rangers have qualified you can look forward to the fixtures being on BT Sport, because they have the rights to show those games for this season and next.
Yeah, I get where you're coming from with Dembele. All will be revealed soon. As for Sunday, I don't think there'll be much in it. The fact that Rangers don't lose soft goals now will see to that, regardless of your travelling, etc.
Just watching tonight's game with Suduva now, on Celtic TV. These are the games that make the subscription fee worthwhile! I can stream the game onto the big TV, and through the home-cinema system:)
Do you subscribe annually to Rangers TV, to get the same benefits?
Marco.

I could but don't. It's really too expensive. It would mean not music at moment as things are tight. So will make do with 90 sec hilights. Lol
Heard that from someone who I know. Something to do with having been overplayed when young.
Good player tho and a move to a less frantic league and warmer weather might help. Will help pay for not being in cl

Fair enough, on this occasion. But it's often the case, especially with Sky, that games involving English teams will be given priority.
As an example (and I could cite many), it's not the first time I've been watching a live SPL game, say on Sky Sports 1, and the after-match interviews with the managers and general chat, which interests me greatly, have been excluded and the programme cut short, to make way for some bloody English game immediately after it! And it never happens the other way round....
But they show the whole programme, including after-match chat and interviews, if there aren't any English teams playing afterwards [and that's how it should ALWAYS be], so go figure....;)
Marco.

Yeah, that could well be the outcome. I'd still rather have him in the team against Rangers, on Sunday, though!;)
Fair enough about Rangers TV. I justify the Celtic version because I can no longer get to the games, which I used to go to a lot when I lived in Glasgow. The whole Celtic TV package is very professional and full of useful info, to keep me informed when I'm down here!:)

Rangers will likely get Fenerbahce and a Russian side, plus either an German or French side. Fancy you to get Limassol, Malmo and Arsenal,,:ner:
That would do me nicely... Chance to avenge Malmo putting us out of the CL, a few seasons back, under Ronny Deila, and to show yet another EPL team that we're no mugs. The 'Battle of Britain' (Scotland vs. England) games, like that in Europe, are the ones I love the most!:)

Got 2 strikers still so be ok til January. Always sell a player and keep most of it if out of cl. Tbh as good as he can be if he has an injury problem then best with the big profit.

Nice one, mate. That wee lad's going places!:)
In other news, as I predicted, Dembele's away to Lyon for £19.7m... Not bad profit on a player that 2 years ago cost us less than £500,000. We'll see what happens with that money in January!
Until then, we should should be ok up front. One bonus is that it'll be good having Griffo in the team now for his free kicks, which is one thing he brings to the team more than Dembele. Good for Scotland, too. Plus Edouard is class, and Benkovic, Mulumbu and Arzani will definitely improve us.
Marco.

Don't forget young Ryan Christie, who's a decent player, certainly for the SPL, and who did very well last season on loan at Aberdeen. The other young player that's impressed me hugely recently has been Mikey Johnston. He's been brilliant in our last three matches. The boy's destined for greatness!

All Celtic so far but 0-0 at halftime
Pretty poor from Rangers and the Ref. as far as I am told. Didnt really expect that much, but expected them to attack the ball as they usually do. They didn't and just let celtic come at them. you never get anywhere doing that.
Hearts showed the way, and at 200/1 are a good bet to win the championship.... Won all their games and i fancied them as my tips showed.. i might have to put them in front of gers in second, and you just never know.
one thing...we wont, or deserve to....
Well played to Celtic. played the way we should have. I know we were tired after the Russia trip but you dont expend much more attacking their players than you do running around chasing shadows
