Not seen the game as I was out tonight, pity about the result, thought you might have got something out of the home game.
Plenty possession but not enough guile alas
Guile is the one, and also putting Burke up front on his own, for most of the game, simply didn't work, as he's not used to playing that position. Quite simply, the better team on the night won. Too many of our players were no more than average tonight, and when that's the case against a team of that quality, there's only going to be one outcome.
As I said before, I had concerns about the defence, and that proved justified, as Isaguirre had a bit of a nightmare, continually giving the ball away and getting caught out of position. In European games like this, we really missed Tierney. Apparently, he's got a chance of making the second leg. I hope so, although that won't change the outcome of the tie. He'll be a vital player for us for the rest of the season, though.
Bain had a decent game, making a few good saves, and was completely blameless with both goals. Boyata and Simunovic were ok, but got themselves into trouble too often by trying to pass the ball out of defence in tight situations, instead of just lumping it up the park to safety, when that would've been the more sensible course of action.
We lost this game simply because of a lack of overall quality (too many injuries to key players, who if fit would've made a major difference) and also because those who did play, didn't play to their full potential. We needed a performance on a par with the one we produced against Leipzig, but unfortunately fell well short of that. However, we should've started the game with Weah and Edouard up front, as they looked bright and dangerous when they came on in the second half, so hopefully they'll start the game in Spain.
I said as soon as this draw was made that we'd need to be at our best to have a chance, and we simply weren't, in any sense. Had we had available the likes of Tierney, Benkovic, Rogic, Ntcham, and a match-fit Edouard, who'd been playing regularly up until now, and they, and everyone else in the starting 11, had played to their full potential, then I think the result of the match would've been different.
The other thing tonight was that the referee was shocking, and gave us nothing (as often happens with Scottish teams in Europe), including two pretty clear penalties, and generally gave any free kicks going to Valencia, but regardless we simply weren't good enough. I also said that the Europa League, at this stage of the season, was somewhat of an unwanted distraction, as our primary focus needs to be on winning the league (and Scottish Cup). However, at least that won't be the case for long, as with our rather poor away record, we've got no chance whatsoever of going any further in the competition.
It's all about salvaging some pride now, giving our younger players some valuable European experience for next season, and keeping the scoreline over the two legs as respectable as possible. Hey ho, onwards and upwards!
Marco.
Something for us to cheer today as the u17's for gers defeated Roma on pens 9-8 after a 1-1 draw in the final of the Alcas cup in qatar. They have been playing well and recent aquisition from Chelsea, Nathan Young-Coombes has been doing well, as have a number of the lads..
some of the final game from the u17's win v Roma if you havent seen it lads.... great excitement for the boys. great to see such enthusiasm.

Just watched Gerrard’s Interview after today’s game, clearly not impressed neither were the fans at the gameOne of the most inept games they have played. Players are again got swell heads and no drive or desire. They have probably only played properly once since they defeated celtic.
Doesn't help chopping and changing side of cõurse. But overall not acceptable. I switched off around 60 mins. Need to go watch the young lads and then take a long look in the mirror.
Ya dancer!:yay:
That was a *far* more important result for us than the one in Europe in midweek, especially the way it was won, with a goal in the 90th minute from none other than BROONY!:D

Good result, but a really poor game
Cheers. I haven't watched it yet, Robin, as it wasn't broadcast live on any of the main sports channels, so I'll watch it later on Celtic TV. As you know, Kilmarnock always make it difficult for you at home, especially on that awful pitch.
It was one of those games though where you didn't really care *how* you won it, as long as you won it!:exactly:

Live on Sky sports, the Motherwell - Hearts was a better game to watch, but the win was the important thing from a Celtic point of view. Like you not a fan a plastic pitches although when I played, I played on a lot worse surfaces than plastic.
Good win for Utd again tonight. They don't win at the bridge very often. So far only black mark was v psg and that was obviously very likely. They have a much better team.
Solskjar has done very well, surrounded himself with experience and trying to do it the utd way and bringing feel good factor to the whole club.
Think Chelsea will be after yet another manager.

First win there in about 6 years, Chelsea will clearly looking for a new manager.

Yups... He's done an amazing job. Just shows you how much managerial success is about getting players to play for you, and the mental side of things. Next season they'll be in among the top 3 challenging for the title. As long as Liverpool win it this year, that's all that matters!;)

Marco.I've given up on Scottish perochial footy mate. It's far too much like the clans for my liking. All politics now and no fun. Just my opinion tho.
Enjoyed seeing the kids win the equivalent of the world club Cup tho. That's the way forward.. Top quality youths coming through.
Fans are their own worst enemy with the must win every game then Complain the kids don't get a chance, and if they do and make a mistake they crucify them.
Can't be bothered.. Must be getting old.
Ps well done. You just won the league yesterday
5-0 against Killie, in the cup, chaps - well done! Morelos is da man.... Thought that might happen, TBH, as I suspected there'd be a reaction from that pish produced against St Johnstone;)

A good result Marco, and decent goals and once again the Referee had an interesting night. To be honest if they had played like that last weekend Defoe would have scored several, all about crosses into the box.
wasnt watching tbh. no doubt there will be something to complain about for the opposition and the press tho.
This sort of SHITE (from both sides of the 'divide') deserves complaining about, though: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47319032
With the technology there is now, the scum responsible should be identified on camera, rounded up, fined to the hilt and BANNED FOR LIFE, home and away, from attending either Celtic or Rangers games.

Agree
As in society it should be got rid of. Obviously you cannot stop what folk think, but they should be made to keep their vile thoughts to themselves and their cronies. Not soil everyone elses ears.
As for Clarke, im sorry he was treated that way, but as he said boyd was big enough to handle sectarian abuse from celtic then how come he isnt when it comes his way? He should also have made an outburst over that too. He wants consistency ... im tired of our fans bringing the club down, but am also tired of double standards.
Time for the sfa to be removed and a new body installed to take us forward. All the big clubs need to address this as well. They have the technology to identify and ban them all... ok it will cost them fans in the shot run, but if they are paying more than lip service to the issue, then surely they have a duty, instead of blaming it on society.

I agree this issue has been going on for far too long, it’s time to fix it once and for all.
Yup, I completely agree (on all counts). I'd also have foreign refs like a shot, in the SPL, as long as they were better than what we've got. It would remove, in an instant, any accusations of pro-Rangers or Celtic bias, which I do believe exists, although it's nowhere near as bad as it once was!
As for the Celtic game last night, where they lost 1-0 against Valencia - a valiant effort by the boys, producing an outstanding performance, making it very difficult for an excellent team on their own patch. Indeed, we were dominating the game for the first 20-25 minutes, until Toljan was sent off, for a rather soft second yellow card.
So yes, talking of referee bias, I think it's pretty obvious that refs in European games are biased towards teams from the bigger leagues, where the money is, of which La Liga is one [I'd hesitate to say bigger teams, as Valencia aren't bigger than Celtic], and Scottish teams in particular, not just Celtic, suffer heavily from that. There's no way that Toljan should've been sent off, and of course as soon as that happened the tie was effectively over!
However, we still refused to give up, and had Ajer scored what seemed like a sitter, with a header, then at 1-1 on the night it could've been different. Still, what put us out was that piss-poor performance last week at home. If we'd played as well then as we did last night, we'd probably have gone through. Anyway, lessons learned (hopefully), and pride definitely restored!

A good result for the Welsh the less said about Scotland yesterday the better.
Yeah, indeed:doh:
I like to see Scotland do well (which is rare), but Wales are my rugby team, simply because I live here, have Welsh friends, my wife is half-Welsh, and they are traditional (and extremely PASSIONATE) rugby nation!
Plus, any time England are stuffed at anything, needs celebrating:eyebrows:;)

5-0 good result today, especially in the first half.
Told ya... Yup, and crucially without Morelos! You'll be glad that Defoe got on the scoresheet, too.
We beat Motherwell 4-1, who were the in-form team at the moment (six matches unbeaten), so not an easy game. You've got Dundee next at home. That should be an easy 3 points, and we're away at Tynecastle, which is never an easy fixture for us.
Plus, you just don't know what to expect at the moment from Hearts.

Good results for both teams today
Hopefully things will remain interesting until the forthcoming game at Celtic Park. If the gap is still 8 points then (9 when you factor in the goal difference), I think it'll act as a league decider.
Marco.
Good stuff. Both potential banana skins.
Young Ryan Kent is playing very well.. Too well I guess as he will be kept at anfield next year I think. Still good luck to him
Yup, and great to see Kieran Tierney return to the team, who will make a *massive* difference to us in the title run-in. He's been badly missed!

Neil Lennon on his way back?
Neil Lennon on his way back?
knowing celtic that is exactly the thing they will do; thus banking the 5 mil for brendan, and saving a wedge of his wage too
Got to admit, didn't see that one coming, especially with a club like Leicester, which (money aside) is a massive downgrade from Celtic. I knew he'd leave sooner, rather than later, but thought it would've been to one of the bigger Premiership clubs, and only after he'd tried to secure 10-in-a-row, as I was convinced he wanted that on his CV.
Hey-ho, we'll survive, as we always have done in the past! I'd take Lennon just now, as he knows what the above means to the fans, and is a diehard Celt himself, so fits the profile of what is needed at this specific moment.
Marco.

They have a good set up at Leicester and are not short of money but would be very surprised if they made the top 6 again.
So Rodgers made move while lennon goes back to celtic til end of season.
Wouldn't surprise me if Clarke then goes to celtic from Killy.
It's like a merry-go-round
How are you guys at simply accepting rather 'fortuitous coincidences'?
I'll get to my point.... Was there ever an official explanation for Lennon's departure at Hibs? Fallouts with staff have been rumoured, but as far as I can see nothing confirmed in black and white. So why is that, I wonder?
I think whatever happened, happened in purpose, and was deliberately planned. Here's my theory:
It's no secret that Lennon and Rodgers know each other well, so you can guarantee that they'll have been chatting together prior to, and since, Lennon leaving Hibs.
Well, I think that Rodgers had been aware of Leicester's interest for some time, *before* Lennon's Hibs departure, and he wanted to go to Leicester, as he felt he'd taken Celtic as far as he could, with the financial restrictions imposed on him there, and get back into the EPL. Now I believe he mentioned that to Lennon, weeks ago, with a view to him taking over.
We all know that Lennon's a diehard mad Celtic fan, so he'd have been desperate for that to work. But he was then manager of Hibs! So what to do?:hmm:
Well... Why not 'engineer himself' a suitable exit, which would provide the get-out clause he needed, and so would rather conveniently make him available to accept the position when Rodgers left Celtic and the manager's job became available - knowing full well that Celtic would come calling, as he'd be the ideal replacement!
What do you think?
I'm convinced there's something in that, as I don't believe in such 'happy coincidences'... Indeed, I posted to that effect on the comments section on Celtic TV, and it was taken down. However, I'll be going on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard tonight, making that very point on their phone in.
If you can, tune in, as I promise you won't be disappointed!;)
Marco.
nothing is impossible but i dont think in this case there was any subterfuge. simple reason there was no official reson for his departure was neither he or dempster wanted the truth in the public domain. it would have embarrassed her and may have finished his career.
again thats only what i heard so not fact
be interesting as to how it goes down tho:eyebrows:
I still find the statement "Hibs were keen to stress he was not dismissed and has not resigned" as ambiguous at best. if neither happened how come he aint still there:mental:
That's why I think there's more to it than meets the eye! Join up the dots...
Rodgers and Lennon know each other well, and both have allegiances to Celtic.....Rodgers is rumoured to be unhappy with Lawwell not sufficiently 'funding his ambitions' in the transfer market, and seeking a move to the EPL, where he can realise those ambitions......Lennon leaves Hibs in 'mysterious' circumstances, with no official explanation from the club.........Not long afterwards Rodgers leaves Celtic for Leicester......Lennon is then appointed as interim Celtic manager.
Call me sceptical, or even cynical, but I simply don't buy that collection of events as simply amounting to 'fortuitous circumstances':nono:
Marco.

its not beyond the bounds of possibility. its been done before.
In terms of 'tapping up' managers (and players)? Defo.
In that respect, I'd bet my boots that Rodgers has known about Leicester's interest for much longer than stated, same with Lennon, (possibly Celtic, too), and that Lennon replacing Rodgers as manager has been in the pipeline, maybe since that shenanigans during the summer transfer window, with the missed out signing of McGinn, etc, and new players arriving that he appeared to have had little or no say over, such as that winger Maryan Shved [all of which for me was the catalyst for BR's departure].
For me, the pieces of the jigsaw all fit together.
Marco.
Rangers continue their winning ways, with another great win at Ibrox, 4-0 against Dundee, with both Defoe and Morelos scoring. Well done, lads.
However, that late winner at Tynecastle for us, to win 1-2, was as immensely satisfying, dramatic, and important as the late one against Kilmarnock!!:yay:
It was veritably squeaky-bum time after Hearts scored their penalty and levelled the game at 1-1, until that dramatic late winner. I nearly took the roof off our house cheering when Edouard scored the goal!!
So for now, the 8-point gap at the top remains, and Lenny gets off to a (crucial) winning start:cool:

such is life.. League is over no matter which way they try to make it sound viable. No way Celtic will lose 8 points.
Lol... Not over for me, simply because of the two old firm games still to be played, which if Rangers were to win, would put everything back into the mix! Therefore, until those games are played, and if Celtic can win at least one of them, then I'll say it's over.
The next meeting at Celtic Park will be hugely significant, especially if we were to drop any points before then, and Rangers continued to win.

I expect el buffalo to be sold, and possibly. Tav too. Got our eye on a player playing in Scandinavia to link up with defoe for next year I think. Doubt Davis will be kept. Worrall will be away as will Kent so 2 replacements to come in there, depending of course.

Yeah think he probably would have. Certainly his recent record was good since losing to us they have played well In Scotland. Europe was too much of a stretch for them but if a few players had been fit for first tie you never know
Man u won again and are in 4th only 3points off Spurs in third. Who, d a thunk it?
Yeah, but he had a piss-poor record at Tynecastle and Easter Road. Levein and Lenny (when he was at Hibs) made it very difficult for Rodgers, and our away record until recently has been nothing to shout about.
Marco.

Marco. We will never know. Still I don't blame him for going if he felt he had to. Celtic are in a good place in league etc. If his successor can't win league from there then something is far wrong.
As I said when stevie came in, clear second and ability to challenge celtic was all I hoped for. A cup would be icing on cake
Clear second is defo in the bag, and you've got as good a chance as anyone else left in the competition of winning the cup. It's going to be an exciting end to the season!

Player jumps with natural arm position, no movement out towards ball, actually turning away from the ball.
Farcical. Then again it's Manchester United, so what to expect.

Ok, meant to answer this earlier...
Could be an interesting close season between both clubs. both will lose quite a few players I think; Celtic maybe the most damaged here, as their defence could be decimated.. what you think?
I agree that it'll be an interesting close season for both clubs. In terms of the Celtic defence, the main thing will be the potential loss of Boyata. In fact, that's pretty much a certainty, and that Rodgers will come in for him to partner Benkovic, who'll return to Leicester when his loan period comes to an end. BR saw how successful a partnership that was at Celtic, and it's one I think would do well for Leicester, in the EPL.
So, the money we get for Boyata, which if he goes to an EPL club will be decent, as he's in his prime and an established Belgian international, will need to be spent on someone of similar calibre, to partner either Ayer or Simunovic in central defence, especially to get through the qualifiers for next season's CL, if we win the SPL.
We're well served in the goalkeeping position, and I think now that Lenny is back, Lustig will stay for another season, to cover for Toljan, who'll be going back to Borussia Dortmund. At the other side, the Tierney factor is of course the main concern. BR, and no doubt plenty of others, from wealthy EPL or foreign clubs, will bid for him in the summer, but I'm confident he'll stay for at least another season.
He's a diehard Celtic fan, and unlike BR won't be tempted to leave until 10-in-a-row has been tackled, although much would depend on whether or not Lennon is given the manager's job permanently. He might go if, say, a foreign manager is appointed, who isn't seen as 'Celtic minded', or perhaps as focussed on 10-in-a-row, and who knows how much that means to the fans, plus with all the upheaval that would bring.
For Tierney to stay, there would need to be stability in the team, and someone at the helm, as manager, who's a Celtic man and a proven winner. However, if he does go this summer, then it will no doubt be for a record transfer fee (for Celtic and Scotland), as I don't think he would be sold for anything less than £25m [I reckon closer on £30m] - and with that sort of money, you could buy plenty of good players!
So yes, there's liable to be a few players coming and going in the summer, but the important factor for Celtic is that they have BIG ASSETS to sell, if they do decide to let them go, and in the longterm, if the money is judiciously invested [a possible combined income of £40m, for Tierney and Boyata?] then that can only strengthen the team for the future - and I believe that next season is destined to be epic!!
Marco.
why a fee for boyata.? he is out of contract is he not, and at 28, not going to get anything much for nurture, as he was a city player when young; or am i missing something?
Agree, i think Tierney will stay unless a really big bid from a big side which probably wont happen. the big four / six dont really buy from Scottish clubs very often ... usually get smaller clubs to try them out in epl first, like with virgil.
Just thought I'd revive this thread, as our resident Gers fans seem to have given up on it, following some recent dodgy results!:ner::eyebrows:;)
Scoring goals to win games in the last minute of injury time is what title-winning teams are all about, and we've done it umpteen times this season... I literally almost wet myself with joy today when Edouard's goal went in!!!:yay::yay::champagne:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/922/MbDT2V.jpg
So a 10-point gap now exists at the top, which even if we lost both upcoming old firm games, I can't realistically see Rangers clawing back. Looking forward to the first one at Celtic Park, after the international break, which no doubt will be a cracker. We'll have some major players back from injury by then, and who no doubt will come in handy for the title run in.
I've been listening to some of the recent radio phone-ins, with Rangers players saying that Gerrard should be sacked, as he's not up to the job. I simply don't go along with that. Outside of the disappointments in the domestic cups, there's been a big improvement in Rangers, both in terms of European results achieved and the team's overall standard of play.
What they lack is consistency, and crucially some players who will give them that. More creativity is needed in the middle of the park and more goal threat up front, in order to break teams down. This is currently what Celtic have that Rangers don't, which is why we usually manage to nick a goal to win tight games, together with a squad of better quality players.
Gerrard needs to address that in the summer, and sign 3 or 4 top-quality players (with the right character and mental toughness to play for Rangers) in the above mentioned positions and also in defence, if Rangers are genuinely to challenge Celtic next season, who will also be looking to strengthen, and crucially replace some quality players who'll likely be leaving.
However, I still think that Gerrard is the man for the job. He'll have learned a lot from this season, in terms of how teams play in Scotland, and most importantly which players he can trust to perform and are good enough to wear a Rangers jersey, and he'll put that knowledge to good use next season. That's why I think it'll be a cracker - as will the two remaining old firm games this season, because Gerrard will be desperate for Rangers to salvage some pride and keep the gap down to as few points as possible!
Marco.
Just a shout out too, for Scotland's AMAZING, mother of all comebacks in the Rugby Six Nations against England yesterday, going from 31-7 down, to draw 38-38, and come within a whisker of beating England at Twickenham, for YEARS - a truly epic game of rugby!! And resulting in Scotland retaining the Calcutta Cup:yay:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/47597573
And of course for Wales winning the Grand Slam itself! It was on the cards, after those amazing comebacks against France, in Paris, and England. Well done lads!!:clap:
:sheep::sheep:
Marco.
Yup celtic won it a few weeks ago. Those late wins are a characteristic of champs.
I did see a few morons are calling for stevie, s head and to clear the squad again.
Feable brained
Yup, any Rangers fan with a brain couldn't have realistically expected their team to win the title this season, and even if the winning gap for Celtic should end up in double figures, it would only be a true reflection of the quality of the respective Celtic and Rangers squads. Therefore, until that gap is bridged, the other one won't be, which is why Gerrard has a lot of work to do in the summer.
The big disappointment for Rangers has been their performances in both cup competitions, particularly the Scottish cup, as fans would've rightly expected them to have won at least one of the cups available. That performance in the replay at home against Aberdeen was simply woeful, and there have been too many others like it this season.
Here's the thing, of the, what, 17 players Gerrard has signed, how many would you say have been a genuine success? For me, even Defoe and Davis haven't properly done the business. McGregor, for me, has been his best signing, and the only one who comes into that category, but who currently seems to be going through a slump in form.
Plus, if it wasn't for Morelos, who was signed by Pedro Caixinha, and all the goals he's scored this season, exactly where would Rangers be...? Therefore, if he goes in the summer, which seems almost certain, he'll need to be properly replaced, and based on Gerrard's record in the transfer market so far, that's far from a certainty.
Marco.
Kudos to Gerard for making a few of the old players tick and what they are now tho, a bit like what Brendan did. Morelos is a lot stronger, Halliday is a new man. Taninier is better by a mark too. plus he has encouraged the younger players through as well(i might add i think him reducing their game time since the Celtic victory aided in the teams unity and thus its downfall.
Gerard has an Ego, and he is a bit fickle; neither in itself a bad thing in football, but when your relatively inexperienced it can cause problems. He maybe needs to address this for his next season.
Overall he has rejuvinated the club and made them a lot stronger. I agree that what is now needed is maybe 4 or 5 top signings within the playing 18. The youth project in Auchindowie is going great guns and will supply the rest.
What the fans need is a reality check. The SFA and Scottish media need jail time(along with a lot of thug fans)
Hard luck lads, I think that's it definitely over now....
Just sitting down to watch the match, as I was having lunch when it was on, so recorded it. Therefore, I'll comment on how it went later. I note that Morelos was sent off again, though!

Unfortunately yes Marco, plenty for the SFA to sort out after the game
Yup, let's deal with that first... Brown was clearly in 'antagonise mode' from the first whistle, and aside from the Morelos incident where he clipped his heels and Morelos reacted and got sent off (inexcusable from Morelos), Brown was in the faces of several Rangers players throughout the match. I know that's part of his game, but I don't really condone it.
However, Kent should've walked later for pushing Brown to the ground, which the whole stadium saw, and also everyone viewing on TV, but somehow the referee and his assistants missed! Plus Halliday mouthing off at the end, going up to Brown and enflaming the situation again should've been punished, and I believe he was later given a second yellow card, which of course turns into a red.
It'll be interesting to see if Kent is also later awarded a red card, when the authorities see the TV evidence of his lunge at Brown, who I also feel deserves some kind of punishment for his behaviour. I'm a big fan of Brown, and he's a player every side in the country would love to have in their team, and someone the opposing fans love to hate, but I don't approve of what he set out to do today, as it only creates bad blood between the teams, so the next game at Ibrox is set to be a powder keg!
Morelos? An absolute disgrace to professional football, IMO, and if I were Gerrard, he wouldn't play for Rangers again. Forget his goalscoring talent, as his impetuousness and inability to control his temper completely outweighs that, and he let his teammates down badly today. Therefore, for me, he doesn't deserve to kick another ball for Rangers, whose season is now over, and should be sold in the summer to the highest bidder.
As for the game itself, football wise, Celtic blew Rangers away in the first half, and were it not for McGregor, could've been 3 or 4 up by half time. Rangers didn't manage one shot on goal and it was a non-contest. However..... Celtic came out for the second half thinking that with Rangers down to 10 men it was going to be a walk in the park and a case of 'How many?' Big mistake!
Especially coupled with Gerrard obviously having given his players a rocket at half time, and no doubt directing the sharp point at Morelos, and galvanised into trying to get something out of the game, it meant that Rangers pretty much bossed the second half, especially when Celtic's injury problems kicked in and they went down to 10 men because Lennon had used all his subs.
And even when Celtic scored their second goal and took the lead, after Tavernier, who'd had a great game up until that point, once again showed his defensive frailties and lack of concentration, gifted the ball to Celtic, which lead to Forrest scoring what was eventually the winner. Not to mention Jack had a great chance before that to put Rangers 1-2 up, but skied his shot over the bar! However, even after Celtic had gone ahead, Rangers continued to be the team on the ascendency, and if it hadn't been for Ajer, who cleared away a great chance for Worrall to score late on, Rangers could've sneaked a draw.
Therefore, even though Celtic once again found a way to score a late winning goal, and on balance overall probably deserved to win, I think Rangers can take something positive from their superb second-half performance, and the fact that they finished the stronger side, despite having played the majority of the game with 10 men. From Rangers' point of view, it was a case of 'what if', as if Morelos had been available for the 2nd half, when Rangers were on top, who knows what would've happened?
Or one could argue that perhaps Rangers wouldn't have been as galvanised in the 2nd half had they not lost Morelos... Teams often play better with 10 men than 11. Regardless, under Gerrard, Rangers are no longer Celtic's whipping boys, which was shown in the last match at Ibrox and in their second-half performance today. Therefore, if they can sign 3 or 4 quality players in the summer and improve their consistency against the other teams in the league, next season will be a cracker!
Before that though, I certainly expect the last encounter this season between the two teams, at Ibrox, to be a feisty affair and the Rangers players will have no shortage of motivation for revenge after Brown's antics today, so Celtic will have to be prepared for that. In any case, short of a total capitulation from Celtic now, 8 in-a-row is in the bag, and we continue now to try and secure the treble-treble, with a very difficult game against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final!

Very good summary Marco, I think once the dust settles Rangers will have 3 players suspended. Personally I would not play Morelos again. I also have to admit to not being a great fan of Scott Brown his antics during and the end of the game were way below that of a team Captain.
I completely agree, Robin. There's no need for that stuff, although in the past Rangers have had a few 'Scott Browns' of their own... Brown has been playing very well recently and scoring sone crucial goals for Celtic, so he should concentrate instead on playing football!
In terms of Morelos. unfortunately I think Gerrard will have to play him, that is when he returns from suspension, as his transfer value will dwindle if he's not playing regularly... Plus, who else in the Rangers team is going to score goals regularly in his absence?
Defoe has been a big disappointment for me, although he's not started many games, but I just think he's a spent force now and not worth the wage bill. If he genuinely still had it in him and is still the player he once was, he'd have shown it in training by now and Gerrard would've put him in the team, although he doesn't exactly compliment Morelos, in terms of playing style.
Marco.
P.S Where's Granty?
Of what ive been told Broonie was trying to get folk to react. I agree its not acceptable, or should i say, shouldnt be, but apparently it is.
Footy has become a disgrace to itself imo. Far too many players and managers misbehaving; acting like thugs etc and then have the cheek to demand the fans behave  The press too are always at it, as are the usual media culprits like Sutton and his ilk.
Nowt will change alas, and i had hopes it would. So i have to make a stand to a point. I dont expect saints but that kind of behaviour is sending a message to folk like my grandson as how he should be behaving.... Celtic wont discipline Brown as he was pretty much carrying out orders im guessing, like McKenna in the Dons team.
As to Morelos, well he just doesnt have the temperament for the game here. He is a manchild alas, and isnt going to change overnight. Gerrard isnt the man to curb him. thats for sure.
Not sure he has it for England either. Europe or back to S America I think. Yes he will put in a transfer request and it will be looked at sympathetically .
The other trouble was just Handbags really but will be drawn out to silly proportions as it suits...
Result of course was fighting by fans and no doubt stabbings etc.... wives being assaulted etc:doh:
As I say, if managers and players cant behave then dont expect fans to... sorry its a bit dour.... oh and congrats to Celtic; overall they deserved at least a point, and maybe all 3, or so im told... a draw may have been fairer but overall it wouldnt change much
oh I might add ive seen the morelos incident in slo mo and he never actually connected with brown who took a dive, as was his obvious intention. Poor from both for differing reasons.

When the relevant authorities have a proper look at the incident, I'd expect Kent to be given the same ban as Morelos, as what he did was easily as bad, and arguably worse. Therefore, Rangers will potentially be going into the Hearts game (against an in-form team) without three of their best players, due to suspension, and probably also two of them, for the following week's tough trip to Motherwell.
Personally, I wouldn't let Morelos near a Rangers shirt again, as he's a disgrace, so yesterday's game may have been his last. And with Aberdeen currently in good form, save their unlucky defeat to Hearts at the weekend (and also Kilmarnock), I think Rangers, if they don't get their act together quickly, run the risk of finishing third - with a strong possibility of the final gap between them and Celtic being nearer 20 points than 10....

If nothing else should make fight for second and third place a bit more interesting, yesterday was a Rangers first lose in 9 games although 4 of those games were draws, the team is far too inconsistent to be challenging for the title. Tav was having one of his best games then gave the ball away for the second goal. The players we have are good enough to finish second maybe it’s the tactics? Time will tell, bringing in Defoe and Davies is now looking like an error as we are not playing either of them.
Defoe should have played yesterday. only a blind man, or SG couldnt see Morelos would walk at some point. Teams target his mentality sadly instead of showing they are better players.. He needed to show he could take it and hurt them by scoring.
Season is all but over, but yes second spot could still be a fight... much depends on how the players react etc.
from a certain perspective it was maybe what needed to happen. Morelos will be sold, as will Tav; Kent will go back as will the other loans.
Shagger may have another year in him, but i expect Fods to leave and another goalie to come in to challenge, unless they promote. jones will take kents role or candymans. another wide man may come in as middleton seems to be persona non grata as is Katic; so a central defender too. The Yank may take the Tav role. A striker and a no 10 will be brought in to replace morelos. Defoe may well stay yet. Much depends; his scoring rate isnt actually bad. A young Scandinavian is on horizon i believe ..
Dont forget Celtic may have a big building process of their own.... also have to find a manager as I dont think Lennon is the answer

I agree, and if Defoe does get a run of games before the end of the season, it'll be interesting to see what he's still got to give. I'm not sure it's the tactics, as Gerrard has shown himself to be reasonably shrewd, tactically, certainly in the earlier European games and in those against Celtic, especially how he changed the formation in the 2nd half in yesterday's game, which caused Celtic problems.
The biggest problem for Rangers is as you say: a complete lack of consistency, and the biggest reason for that is that, unlike Celtic, they don't have enough quality players, particularly in the final third, who can produce moments of brilliance when teams are defending for their lives against you, and turn draws into wins.
The only player who ticks that box for Rangers is Kent, and he's almost certainly going to go in the summer, as I doubt Rangers could afford the quoted £7m transfer fee. Therefore, Gerrard has a lot of work to do in the summer if Rangers are to improve next season, especially with it being such a crucial one, and Celtic certainly won't be standing still.
Marco.
So Marco who have Celtic lined up manager wise. heard something re a german... and how many players do they likely need in
Dont forget Celtic may have a big building process of their own.... also have to find a manager as I dont think Lennon is the answer
I wholeheartedly agree with your first point, but the big difference is that Celtic have potentially big assets to cash in on, to fund that building process, plus already £40m, or so, in the bank, which makes the job just a bit easier!;)
Plus, they also have the infrastructure in place of a winning team and a solid core of quality players, who'll still be there next season, used to winning titles and cups - and those are all things Rangers don't have. Therefore, for me, the biggest building job will be Rangers'.
I understand your second point, but disagree. Lenny's now secured the title, so that box has been ticked, in terms of his audition for the manager's job, and if he wins Celtic the Scottish Cup, to secure the treble-treble, then the manager's job will be his, no question, and in my view he'll have earned it.
As far as I'm concerned, right now with the 10-in-a-row thing still looming in the horizon, we need a manager at the helm who fundamentally understands how important that is to the Celtic fans, and as Lenny is a dyed-in-the-wool fan himself, for me no-one else is better equipped to attempt to see that job through than him. He's tailor-made for it.
That's why *at this specific moment in time* I'd rather he was at the helm than folks such as Benitez, Martinez or Moyes, who have been quoted in the media as potential candidates, and whom I don't think would be as predisposed to understanding just how important 10-in-a-row is to the fans, as is Lennon. Quite simply, the Celtic manager's position at the moment is a 2-year job, max, for anyone coming in, and I don't think that would suit any of the big names mentioned.
When, or if, Celtic manage to secure 10-in-a-row, I suspect under the guidance of Neil Lennon, and if they've accrued another few years worth of Champions League money, then I believe that would be the time to appoint a Martinez or Moyes, and Celtic could then have a right crack at the CL, both with a top-notch manager and team in place, but not right now.
Right now is Lenny's time, and the chance to create history in Scottish football, and so I hope he gets the chance to prove it:cool:

I’m sure Defoe will play the next 4 games at least, well we don’t have anyone else. I was pleased to reach half time only one down yesterday, the second half was very different and as you say Marco, the manager changed the tactics, we just need a few more decent players, the Celtic squad is much stronger. Kent will be away as we can’t afford him. Will be surprised if Lennon is given the job.
So Marco who have Celtic lined up manager wise. heard something re a german... and how many players do they likely need in
I've just answered the first one. In terms of the second bit, a quality replacement for Lustig and Boyata, is the main priority. Who knows, Compper might get a look in now Rodgers is away, as I believe he's been doing well in the development team.
You don't get to play in the Bundesliga if you're a diddy, so I suspect that, aside from injuries, the reason Compper's not featured much so far was some kind of personality clash with Rodgers. We possibly also need another creative goalscoring midfielder, as cover for Ntcham and Rogic, in the event of injury, as they've been badly missed for key parts of this season, and that's probably it.
Up front, we're reasonably well-covered, as I'd expect to see Bayo come in next season and make an impact, Griffiths to return once he's match fit, and Edouard only to get better as he gains more experience. I guess we could sign another striker, just in case Bayo doesn't turn out to be good enough and to cover for injuries, in what will be another long and difficult season ahead, but that's it:cool:

What, even if he wins the Scottish Cup and secures the treble-treble, which will be no easy task, as to achieve that I believe Celtic will have to beat not just Aberdeen, but likely also Hearts?
You've got McGregor (the only true quality player currently in the Rangers team, whom you own) to thank for the fact that you weren't more than 1-0 at half time. Here's the thing, Robin, and the key to ascertaining how likely Rangers are to regain the title from Celtic:
Aside from McGregor, and Kent, who won't be there next season, who else from Rangers would get into Celtic's starting 11?
No-one, IMO. And for me, until the answer to that question contains at least five players (as would've been the case in the old days, or more), Rangers will not be in a position to take the title from Celtic. Therefore, can Gerrard find those 5 players in the summer, who would cause a different answer to be given to that question, and provide Rangers with a genuine chance of stopping 10-in-a-row?
Time will tell, but it's a huge ask, especially as has been said, with Celtic themselves not standing still.
Marco.
wont surprise me if he gets it; its the cheaper option and as u say knows the club. Depends how much 10 in a row means compared to true Euro progress.

It's the holy grail mate, for the vast majority of the Celtic support, just as it's the same for the majority of Rangers fans who want to stop it. The Celtic supporters I know would gladly (temporarily) trade true Euro progress for securing 10-in-a-row, and for me, Lenny's best equipped for delivering that.
Aside from from being a diehard Celtic fan himself, he knows most of the players (certainly many key ones) really well, having signed some of them himself, and the players both like and respect him. He's also been manager before, so knows all that that entails, and also the impact it has on your personal life.
That wouldn't necessarily be the case for someone else who came in, especially a foreigner... That's why, for the sake of maintaining an important level of continuity, Lennon is the man. And as you say, he's also the cheaper option! Plenty of time later, once 10-in-a-row has been tackled, for the board to spend big again on another top manager, like Rodgers:)

As I said, I was just pleased to make it to halftime only a goal down, I agree our keeper kept us in the game and probably only him and Tav would start for Celtic. One thing I would mention is that Celtic were playing much better football earlier in the season when Brown was not playing. We need to bring in some quality for the long term not just loan signings, you can’t build for future using loan players.

true, but if he fails, then fans will quickly trot out the biscuit box and bash Lawwell with it. I know, its a potentially no win situation. Better players or not there is no surety of Celtic winning next season. His record isnt too bad with Celtic, but has he the mental strength he had, is another matter.... Sure he will want it and as you say, if he wins treble, even if most of it is Rodgers's he will take credit, and it will be difficult not to give him it

Absolutely, although it certainly helps! But I'm on record as saying that next season will be a cracker, for the reasons outlined, and I certainly don't expect it to be easy for Celtic - far from it.
I think most of the Celtic fans though, the genuine ones who live in the real world, would appreciate why Lennon was given the job, if he gets it, on the back of securing the title and (if it happens) winning the Scottish Cup, and would accept what subsequently happens accordingly.
However... I've got a sneaky feeling that Aberdeen are due a win in the cup against Celtic, sooner rather than later, and that might just come this season. Of course, I hope not!
Marco.
Footy fans, especially the Glasgow type are not understanding. Just look at our lot; been calling for SG and his signings to get the heave since losing to Aberdeen.... No Patience of forgiveness in them.
Also the other sides including Rangers may not be as strong next season. This year Dons, Hearts, Hibs and Killy have all been beating the so called big two, and that has kept the season interesting. It may well not happen again. Even the lower sides have done well at times.
I do hope plenty are in the mix next year as its what the country needs, but the sceptic in me sees it differently.

I don’t see it either, as you say he’ll probably head back down south if fancies a change
I think he'll be off, unless given a good reason to stay, as realistically he's taken Kilmarnock as far as he can, and performed nothing short of a miracle. Maybe the Aberdeen job, if McInnes decides he's had enough and wants a change, especially if Aberdeen lose to Celtic again in the cup?
He would probably also argue that he's taken Aberdeen as far as he can. I always thought he should've got the Rangers job instead of Gerrard, especially as he's a big Gers fan.
Marco.

lol... no, i doubt he will get that call. qpr are looking for a new man... you never know
Sorry, Robin, I missed this earlier:
As I said, I was just pleased to make it to halftime only a goal down, I agree our keeper kept us in the game and probably only him and Tav would start for Celtic. One thing I would mention is that Celtic were playing much better football earlier in the season when Brown was not playing. Some good points, and yes Tavernier might get a game, as Lustig's powers seem to be on the wane, although I wouldn't necessary take Tav ahead of Toljan. I know he's only on loan, but I rate him highly, and if he's available for sale, don't be surprised if Celtic buy him from Dortmund at the end of his loan period.
The other Rangers player (for now anyway), based purely on his ability, who would have a chance of getting into Celtic's starting 11, is of course Morelos. However, for me, Edouard is developing into a better player than him, and has greater potential.
Edouard has all the right attributes to be a top, top striker in any league: pace, physical presence, positional awareness, coupled with the right temperament - and if he continues getting better and shines in the Champions League games for Celtic next season, then when he eventually does go, he'll be worth as much as Dembele was, possibly more.
And on the subject of a player's worth, I'll stick my neck out and say that given Morelos' latest antics, Rangers will get nowhere near the £15-20m that was quoted. More like £8-10m, but we'll see what happens.
As for your point on Brown, I agree, and one of the players we're currently really missing is Ryan Christie. Until he was injured, he was scoring vital goals for us and bringing more speed and urgency to the team, through his dynamic midfield play, which Brown simply isn't capable of.
However, Brown brings other things to the team, namely his experience, excellent reading of the game and defensive abilities, and most of all his leadership qualities, including his ability to get the most out of his team mates. He's the consummate captain, and a player that any team in the country would love to have in their side, even some in the EPL. Therefore, when both Christie and Brown are fit, I think Lennon will use them in different types of games, or come up with a formation where both of them can be accommodated.
I agree with you about loan players, but that could apply to Celtic, who also have their fair share, although in terms of building for the future, in recent times Celtic have had much more young players come successfully through their academy and become first-team players, than Rangers have from theirs, although the recent good crop Rangers have produced may be about to change that.
Marco.
Any thoughts on this, chaps?:)
Marco.
What bit... Lol.
I will say next season may show some of the rangers players in a different light. They will either get better or just fade out of pic. I think sg needs to learn a bit more than let's go too.

I think it was clear that Brendan Rogers was fazing Brown out before he left with McGregor having a different role in midfield and Ryan Christie and Forrest playing well. Of the loan players Burke seems to be finding his feet although was not used on Sunday, Weah not seen much of him, and as you say Marco Celtic seem to be keener to bring players from the Academy through to the first team, Rangers much less so.
Rangers will need to take a long hard look at this season when it’s over, far too inconsistent, and I think that Gerrard does not know his best team, he played McCrorie on Sunday, a player I like but only comes in for certain games. Kamara will prove a good purchase and thought he would have started, watched him playing for Finland during the week and he played well. I could go through the squad player by player there are a few I would keep and hope they improve but there are too many that haven’t worked out. We could struggle over the next few weeks with the suspensions and we do need to finish second and it wood be good if Aberdeen beat Celtic and win the cup.
As for the national team it’s clear that the current man was a mistake, we a need new approach but who would take it on it’s clear that when the manager of Northern Ireland turns the job down there is something very wrong with the set up.
I see in the news this morning that Neil Lennon wants to build a team around Scott Brown, I think that’s a mistake but I’m now a Brown fan and never have been.
Should be an interesting finish to the season to see who will finish second and third.
What bit... Lol.

What bit? The points I made in my last post to Robin, daftee...
I agree with you about the Rangers players, talking of which Kent will find out his fate today, in terms of punishment for his shenanigans on Sunday. I predict a retrospective 2-game ban.
Marco.
Think it's easier with a fairly settled and successful team to bring kids through. Gerrard sticks with certain players for, imo no good footballing reasons. Katic is both ours and better than warrall but can't get a game as sg doesn't seem to like him. He doesn't like our left back either.
As I say next season will make or break the squad, and sg for that matter. He needs to learn to show players the right individual messages at the right times. And also stop pissing about
I think it was clear that Brendan Rogers was fazing Brown out before he left with McGregor having a different role in midfield and Ryan Christie and Forrest playing well. Yup, although I think Grant makes a good point about that, in terms of settled teams. I like Burke and think he brings something different to the table, in terms of his physicality and lightening pace. It would be interesting if Celtic could tempt West Brom to extend his loan period, to cover next season, as I see him as a big asset to the squad.
Weah's an excellent young player (fast, very aware and creative), but simply hasn't had enough game time to truly shine. Look out for him making an appearance on Wednesday against St Mirren, and possibly having a major influence on the outcome of that match, which incidentally I see as another difficult one for Celtic, as St Mirren are fighting for their SPL survival.
Rangers will need to take a long hard look at this season when it’s over, far too inconsistent, and I think that Gerrard does not know his best team, he played McCrorie on Sunday, a player I like but only comes in for certain games. Lol, thanks for that!:D From a non-Celtic perspective, I know what you mean. It's not going to be easy against Aberdeen, that's for sure, as it's their last chance of a trophy, but we'll have a few key players back from injury by then that could make all the difference. I can see it going to the wire though, and possibly even penalties!
As for the national team it’s clear that the current man was a mistake, we a need new approach but who would take it on it’s clear that when the manager of Northern Ireland turns the job down there is something very wrong with the set up.
Indeed, and a lot of it is down to the 'old boys network'/stuffed blazers in the SFA!
That place needs cleared out from top to bottom, before Scottish international football has got any chance of moving forward. A younger team manager needs to be appointed, IMO; someone more in tune with the modern game and how younger players think/behave, and then given at least 3 years to implement a successful strategy. We simply can't keep chopping and changing managers and offering 'jobs for the boys'!
I see in the news this morning that Neil Lennon wants to build a team around Scott Brown, I think that’s a mistake but I’m now a Brown fan and never have been.
Should be an interesting finish to the season to see who will finish second and third.
Indeed. I honestly think that both Aberdeen and Killie (if they can keep their key players free from injury) will push you hard for second place. As for Brown, I kind of both agree and disagree. I wouldn't necessarily build a team around him, but he's in the form of his life, still fit as a fiddle, and a hugely influential player.
As a Rangers fan, I'm not surprised you don't like him!
Btw, look out for Lustig being offered new contract, and if so, I believe also a new injection of life, under Lennon. He was superb on Sunday, and took care of Kent, until he was moved into the middle in the second half, and only then did Kent come alive. I like him, as he's been a great servant to Celtic, and with his huge experience, I think he's still got something positive to contribute to the team.
Marco.
think Weah will be a player. Burke, is all speed but not much else it seems and if he cant get in the baggies squad he is unlikely to be Celtic bound i'd have thought. If you could buy young Tim :eyebrows:, then he would make u a pile in 4 years. i'd take him in a flash.
Talk again of Tierney going down south too which is worrying for the scottish game.
Yeah, there's been lots of talk of that all season.
For me, unless any of the top six sides in the EPL come calling with a HUGE bid (£25m+, as that's what he's worth), or a big team from abroad with a similar offer, KT will be staying put for 10-in-a-row, as he's a diehard Celtic fan. I mean, he really wasn't fit to play on Sunday, but insisted on doing so, and pushed himself to his limit to face Rangers and help Celtic get a vital win, to secure 8-in-a-row.
Much will also hinge on who gets the manager's job at Celtic on a permanent basis, and whether he feels excited by the successful candidate, if it isn't Lenny. I agree about Weah. I don't see PSG selling him, though. Perhaps an extended loan could be on the cards? We shall see. I still rate Burke, for more than just his pace, and I don't think we've seen the best of him yet in a Celtic shirt.
As predicted, I see that Kent has been given a 2-match ban: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47791139

Yup, and its fair enough, but Brown should have been up on a charge too for incitement and bringing the game into disrepute. You can bet if that had been a rangers player behaving like that he would be...
and thats not to mention the simulation of holding his face and going down like a sniper had got him(morelos) very much like big Lafferty did. he got a 2 month ban and villified. Brown? nowt..
Lol - you're not seriously suggesting that the authorities are biased towards Celtic, against Rangers?:D
No chance... They're simply incompetent across the board. That's the reality.
Historically, however, it was always the other way round (being biased against Celtic), especially when Farry was in charge at the SFA, and let's not talk about refs, such as Hugh Dallas, or any of the other infamous 'masons in black', who's, shall we say, 'questionable decisions' helped secure Rangers cups and titles, especially during the Walter Smith era!;)
That's a sore point, mate....
That aside, I do agree that Brown should also have been punished, if for no reason other than inciting the Rangers support, by celebrating the win in front of them. However, he does continually get dog's abuse from rival fans, on and off the park.
Have you read the mindless bile some Rangers supporting trolls have written about his dead sister on social media? See here: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/disgusting-celtic-skipper-scott-brown-10921386
So whilst I don't condone his provocative and antagonistic behaviour on Sunday, far from it, some of it rather childish, and think he should've behaved more professionally, I can sympathise with him wanting to give a little back to his 'detractors', and the vermin out there who abuse him in such a way, as outlined above.
Marco.
No point in discussing if u cant see it.
Lol, I'm up for discussing anything, but show me some evidence mate, to back up your claims:)
With respect too, and no offence meant, it's a bit rich for a Rangers fan to complain about biased authorities, given what's gone on in the past (as outlined). I'd agree that such outright bias/favouritism towards Rangers no longer exists, thank goodness, as Celtic have suffered from it for years, but I don't see it having swung the other way.
Don't get me wrong, that's not to say that Rangers don't get some unfair decisions made against them, but so does every other team in the country, including Celtic.
Marco.

No change after tonight’s games, good to bounce back with a convincing win.
Yeah, excellent win for you guys, at a difficult ground, and also with Defoe scoring and others, which proves that there's life beyond Morelos!:)
I was pretty sure you'd win, as Gerrard usually ensures that the team bounces back from defeats, so credit to the Rangers players and him for that. It's draws against the 'diddy teams' that have done for you this season. Cut that out, and who knows what might happen?
I was right that Weah would be influential in our match against St Mirren, as he scored the opener, and which for a long spell looked like it would prove to be the winner, that is until Christie struck to make it 0-2! Oh how we've missed that lad, as he brings much needed verve and impetus to our midfield...
Anyway, we're getting all our 'big guns' back now from injury, which augurs well for the important games ahead, as Benkovic also made an appearance tonight, so we'll not miss Boyata being out injured now for the rest of the season, and Tierney's ok after Sunday. He was just rested tonight.
Just need to give Tierney, Rogic, Ntcham, Benkovic and Christie some game time now (plus Weah, who was superb tonight), to get them match fit, and we'll see if it's good enough, coupled with the rest, to take us to the treble-treble!

You’re probably right Marco about Ibrox being a difficult ground, Defoe will score goals when he plays and talking to a few people who were at the game, it was the best performance for awhile. I did watch the first half of the Celtic game which was Celtic and would have been a bit more comfortable if they hadn’t missed a penalty.
Yeah, Weah should've taken the penalty, not Ntcham, as he missed his last one, and Weah was confident and on fire. I expected it to be a tough game, just like it was against Dundee, with packed defences and teams battling for their lives. They're tricky games to win. When Christie came on, however, he made all the difference!
Defoe probably needs a run of games to get properly match fit, so he should get that chance now Morelos is suspended. However, you're going to miss Kent soon for a couple of games, so it'll be interesting to see what impact the loss of his creativity has on the team. Rangers were excellent though, in the first half, and if you can maintain that level until the end of the season, you'll definitely secure second place in the league:)

Power of the media I guess.
And the police
For me, both deserve it, especially Brown. I really don't condone his actions, despite folks saying 'it's all part of the game', setting out to deliberately wind up an opponent. To an extent, yes, but Brown took it way too far, and I don't like the precedent it sets, in terms of inciting both sets of fans, as behaviour at grounds currently is bad enough - and the potential reprisals of what's likely to happen now in the next game at Ibrox.
Marco.
not overly keen on the gagging of managers re refs, within limits of course. I dont feel they should just be able to coast through poor performances without any criticism. as I say, it depends of what he said, and if it was between the 2 then it really shows how pathetic the game has become.
Tiny Wharton would have sorted it on spot;mind you the players wouldnt misbehave in one of his games.... he would have paid them a visit and the players knew it.
Players were tough but honest and fair then. you wouldnt see the likes of Greig or Auld feigning injury to get a fellow pro sent off.
I agree with all of that, but I can't condone the actions of Morelos in any way whatsoever. If he hadn't swung his arm in Brown's direction, it wouldn't have given Brown the opportunity to play act. Regardless of any provocation, you need to keep your hands (and arms) to yourself!
Marco.
I never condone bad behaviour as its a licence to make everything worse. I accept things happen in the fight for supremacy but trying get someone to react by nibbling at them is not heat of the moment stuff; its pre planned. Lashing out every game is a sign that his temperament is very suspect. I believe he will be leaving in summer if a suitable fee is found; some are saying Rodgers has had an offer agreed for him; i dont know if thats true tho. I also expect Tav to leave too.

Regardless of anything else, the above in bold is the bottom line, as far as Morelos is concerned. I've said what I think of Brown's antics, so you know my views on that. I'd just like to see *any* player, no matter who it is, 'getting one over' an opponent, SOLELY as a result of beating him in a FOOTBALL sense, nothing else. In short, let's see more professionalism from players and less petulance!
Unfortunately for Rangers, I do think that Morelos' latest antics will adversely affect his valuation, so I believe that what the club will get for him in the summer will now be significantly less than would've been the case had he remained on the park on Sunday and impressed with his football skills, especially if he'd managed to score a goal, not to mention excelled in the remaining league games, rather finding himself banned for the majority of them, as potential buyers will now consider him as more of a liability, despite his undoubted talents.
Marco.
probably taken 5 mil off the price, certainly in the upfront stakes. they may get closer with a sell on etc
Both the english prem and the championship are looking like exciting finishes at least. Liverpool and City locked together at top still and a few sides in mix for minor honours. Think City maybe have the tougher fixture list but there are plenty banana skins for both yet.
Norwich look to be coming up, but lots of options yet for who else especially in the playoffs, which are always exciting and nerve-jangling for the teams involved . Good luck to my mates side, Villa on that

Lol - why? Celtic are my No1 love, but I've always had a soft spot for Liverpool, since when they dominated football in the 70s and 80s, and had some amazing players in their team, a few of whom were Scottish!:)

Whether either will come again is in the stars. But footy has lost much of its attraction due to all the politics and bad behaviour etc..

Lol - why? Celtic are my No1 love, but I've always had a soft spot for Liverpool, since when they dominated football in the 70s and 80s, and had some amazing players in their team, a few of whom were Scottish!:)
In terms of now, I'm also a big fan of Klopp, as I love his personality and attitude to football, plus it's been way, WAY, WAY too long since Liverpool won the English top league, so I'm praying it'll happen this year (sorry, Chris)!
Marco.
I suppose it takes all sorts. As Bertie would say..
2 teams is a new concept on me. It’s 1, no matter how good or shite they are
It’s cast in stone.
Lots of folk have a Scottish and an English.. My villa loving mate is also a ger. Villa would be his first but not by that much.
seems a comprehensive victory marco.. jam tarts in final then.... also i see liverpool beat chelsea so all the battles at top are still on

Yup on both counts! The Celtic game was very one-sided, even when it was 11 vs 11. I don't think Aberdeen managed one single shot on target during the whole match. Their tactics were very much to try and contain Celtic, then maybe sneak something on the break or from a set piece. It'd expected them to have made more of a game of it.
Pretty poor from them, and the physical stuff they were trying, and some of the tackles on Celtic players were shocking, hence their two (highly deserved) red cards. It was even more of a non-contest in the second half when they went down to 9 men. Could've easily finished up 6 or 7, were it not for their keeper, who pulled off some good saves.
Anyway, check out Forrest's goal... It's a peach!

Yes it was very one sided, and agree another decent goal by Forrest.

saw it there. cheers... not too shabby
I see our reserves pumped youz 2_0.ner. Well done the youngsters
Lol - well we've got give you something to cheer this season!:eyebrows:
Marco.
We beat hibs last week to put celtic on top now we are on goal diff. Been a close thing between those 3 especially. Think the Glasgow cup is getting televised too.
Hope there's no bad behaviour this year

Just shows you how big both Celtic and Rangers are, in terms of their support in world football. Just imagine how big they could become if they played in a bigger league, and also had access to the subsequent fortunes in finance, of say, the EPL!
I'll never understand how it's fair that the likes of Cardiff City can play there, but Celtic (or Rangers) can't....:hmm:
Marco.
P.S It's interesting to see how well-supported the top German clubs are, and conversely how poorly in comparison the Italian ones fare, who're not even featured in that list.
Was reading that earlier. Yup it's all about access to the TV contracts really.
The Germans have caps on salary and its cheap to get in so this works for their game.
I see we are getting a goal fest at City spurs game.. 3_2 already
Was reading that earlier. Yup it's all about access to the TV contracts really.
Is that the reason why you think Cardiff City can play in the EPL, but not Celtic or Rangers?
Someone needs to explain to me the logic (and fairness) of that.
Marco.
They were already there and didn't have a national professional league at time.
Think that was it.
When, and it will be when... The English game needs a boost to keep the money rolling in it will happen
I hope so, but I seriously have my doubts, as we need them more than they need us. Why do you think that will change, and the English game will need a boost? Money's flowing in there, from all angles, and I can't see that changing anytime soon.
Plus, I also don't think they want us there [rightfully for the hooligan element both of our teams carry], but also I think because of the threat we'd be if we had access to EPL fortunes. Quite simply, if the financial situation was made into a level playing field, so that we were no longer the 'poor relations', we'd be as big as anyone in that league bar Man Utd and Liverpool, and potentially (given time) as successful on the pitch.
Marco.
All gravy trains end or slow. It will happen. Might be a while but some thing will change sometime. TV companies would love it
Fair enough, and indeed the TV companies would lap it up. Just imagine the audience viewing figures, WORLDWIDE, of games such as Man Utd v Rangers or Celtic v Liverpool...!!
Marco.

Some very good points there Marco, but if they two clubs were to go down south, the supporters would need to be controlled.

Very comfortable win, was expecting a lot more from a poor Hearts team.
Very comfortable win, was expecting a lot more from a poor Hearts team.
yup Robin. A good win at a difficult ground and team at times.
Good result against Hearts, guys! Although they haven't really laid a glove on you all season...
Just need to see if you can achieve some consistency now, and try and win all of your remaining games. You've not had too much difficulty against the bigger teams this season, but rather the Dundees, Livingstons and Motherwells. Sort that out, and next season will defo be interesting!:)
As for us, we seem desperate to CRAWL over the line, rather than race towards it:doh: Never mind as they used to say: "1-0 to the Arsenal", it's now "0-0 to the Celtic"! Too many players I think have it in their heads that the league is already won/over (which to all intents and purposes it is), and don't want to risk injuries, and I think that mentality is affecting performances...
So hopefully Lennon will boot some bums, and the players will wake up and start producing the performances that they're capable of, especially in time for the cup final.

got the feeling he has changed the style somewhat, and this may not suit what the players have had drummed into them with Rodgers.
I will be happy if he gets the job(Lennon), as although he is a good manager, i dont think he is what Celtic need at this moment; their players need a more gifted man imo.
Looks like we have signed Jake Hastie, or are about to.

Watched some of the game yesterday, definitely changed from the way Celtic played under Rodgers, Will be interesting to see if they go for Lennon or someone with a higher profile.

well done to the gers young colts for winning the youth cup 3-2 v Celltic at Hampden...Great Game too apparently
Yes, sounds like it. Well done! :)
I'd forgotten all about that. Let's hope then that some of the good ones eventually become first-team players, as youth development, in that sense, has been seriously lacking at Rangers in recent times.

Hopefully both teams will win this weekend, to keep it interesting
Talking of youngsters, this guy is set to be a sensation (been following him for a while in the youth set up), and dare I say it, has the potential to become the next Jinky Johnstone:
https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/769828/Celtic-news-Karamoko-Dembele-St-Mirren
Marco.
yeah, hes going to be a top player i think.
Defo.... never mind Moussa Dembele. This boy, Karamoko is set to be a superstar, and I shudder to think of what his transfer value could be in future!:eek:
Anyway, in terms of today's game, our No5 (Yozo) scores the winner in 67.12 minutes. Who'd have thunk it?
Big Billy [God bless him] was defo looking down upon us today... However, once again we huffed and puffed and flattered to deceive, and aside from that great header and goal from Jozo, it was a dire display and hugely frustrating match to watch. Had Killie been awarded a clear penalty in the first half, and taken their chances, the result could've been very different.
Yes, champions are capable of winning games, despite playing at only 70% of their potential, but I want to see the releasing of that other 30% in the remaining games, of the season, which will be necessary if we're to win the cup final, as I'm fed up with us stuttering our way to the title, and the lack of verve and urgency in our play:rolleyes:
So.... Big game for you guys tomorrow, in terms of delaying us winning the title for another week, and also cementing your place as runners up, and which I fully expect you to win!
Marco.
Yeah it's hard to say at this age if he can get to superstardom or even prem standard. Same with mcpake or mebude over our side. Both have super chances but only time will tell. They are as SG says still lads bodies
Lol - sounds like you're more interested in talking about the youths than the seniors!:D
Marco.

always preferred youth and reserve matches. Thats where the money needs to be spent. Less politics there too. We just need to blood them better from 17 to 20 really. They need to be pushed so their bodies get stronger.
Glad to say Gers are spending a lot on the Hummell centre as its now called.
Scotland has always produced great youths, we just ruin them later
Just settling down to watch the game, dudes... Any match predictions?:)
I'll go 3-1 to Rangers, and I expect Defoe to be on the scoresheet!
Just hoping for a good, open/entertaining and attacking game of football:cool:

difficult to predict really. hoping there is less attempts to wind folk up... defoe isnt as easy a target as alf tho. 2-0 hope more than anything as our record v them isnt good in glasgow. but a win would secure 2nd so that should be enough to move their arses:eyebrows:
busy making a digi copy of a record, which will keep me from fretting

Lol... When Rangers *need* to win, as they do today, they usually do, so relax;)
Marco.
Halftime thoughts?
Very one-sided game, and virtually all Rangers attacking and probing for goals. They've created some good chances, and if it hadn't been for Joe Lewis, in Aberdeen's goal, who's been superb, Rangers could've been at least 2-0 up. I've been impressed with Scott Arfield, who's shown some good skills and awareness up front, and seems sharp. The same of which can't be said (so far) of Defoe.
Aberdeen are clearly playing for a draw, which I think will backfire on them, as for me it's only a matter of time before Rangers score and that game plan goes out the window. For me, they'll need to show much more urgency going forward, and stop giving Rangers so much possession, if they're going to get anything out of this match. And it's one they need to win, to have any chance of finishing in second place.
Defo goals to come in the second half!
Marco.
Judging by the info, cosgrove has been diving all over. We have huffed and puffed but bar a couple of good chances, not been great. Course it is difficult to play against such tatics, and you eventually leave back door open....
Still if we score first we should get more
rmcin626

Not a great game, but a good result. Aberdeen obviously playing for a draw for some reason. Good to see Lee Wallace on the park, been very badly treated.
2-0 it was... got my prediction right for once
As predicted, Rangers won, and Granty got the scoreline right!:D
The first penalty was a stonewaller, the second one defo not, as Katic went down far too easily and made the most of very slight contact... However, Rangers thoroughly deserved to win, as they were the much better team - and indeed only team who tried to get something out of the game, and should've won by more. A very good overall team performance.
Aberdeen got what they deserved from the game: hee-haw! One shot on target in the whole match, and a strange game plan of playing for a draw. They put virtually nothing into the game in an attacking sense, although they did lose a couple of key players during the game, through injury, which wouldn't have helped.
Next week's game at Pittodrie, against Celtic, I'm sure will be very different!

I think Aberdeen were hoping that Celtic would have won the league today if Rangers didn’t win, as they are playing Celtic next week
Well celtic don't need to gift Aberdeen the game as they can't get second now [emoji23]
It's good that we've still got a competitive game to play next week, as having the title handed to you is never a good way of winning it. You want to win it through your own efforts.
Marco.
If they play like that you won't have much trouble. All u need is a point
Our turn this time to 'do a 3-2': https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48113450
;)
Marco.
Yup. Same pattern you go 2 up, then 2-2 but this time you got winner.
Something our boys need changing.. Not starting well til two down. Lol
Well done to your young uns
Well that was disappointing :(
Well that was disappointing :(Yup. Better side but missed firmi o
Yes, defo disappointing, but you're talking about the semi-finals of the Champions League, against a team like Barca (with Messi in their ranks), who on their day can do that to anyone!
TBH, I didn't expect Liverpool to do as well this season in Europe, as they're still at the building stage, although well into it now under Klopp. I acknowledge that the CL is important, due to the kudos and huge sums of cash gained from progressing through the rounds, and it would've been a massive thing for Liverpool to have won it, but they really should be concentrating all their efforts on winning the EPL. That's their main priority!
In that respect, the CL is a major distraction, as it's very difficult, even with the size and quality of squad Liverpool have, to compete on both fronts at the final stages of those competitions, so I just hope that Liverpool don't suffer a 'hangover' in their away game to Newcastle on Saturday, which wouldn't be an easy game at the best of times, and so gift the title to City!
However, in terms of the return match against Barca, at Anfield, look out for a big Liverpool comeback... I'm certain that they can pull it level, as they're a very different team at home - *if* they don't concede an away goal, and then who knows what might happen... If Barca score first though, it's over.
Marco.
Yup, it was a body blow to go 2 down and worse to follow as they chased the game. Matip is a weakness they need to plug next season.
on the home front. i see Rangers have signed young Jake Hastie from Motherwell on a free.(I would have preferred Turnbull but he would cost a lot I guess). Also Steven Davis looks to be signing, which im now happy about as he has started to look his old self again...again on a free..while Celtic have resigned Scott Sinclair at a whopping 35k a week; not sure he is worth that but at least there is no transfer fee so it may be decent business(Marco will know better than me)
Steve Davis has indeed signed a one year contract. Think he still has something to offer. Think he is 33 or 34.
So 3 signings in already. We will need more talent in tho. For some bizarre reason we are being linked with Andre gray I mean who thought that out. Even Celtic would hesitate at his wages
Andre Gray? Never heard of him.... Who he, then?
Marco.
Attacker. Plays for Watford.
Watford? Lol. Well that'll be why I've not heard of him!
Marco.

Marco.18mil value tho
Good luck to Celtic today in their hunt for the title. Should manage it ok..
Lol - cheers! We'll see, but I expect Aberdeen to put up a major fight, as they've nothing to lose now, and will see this game as their end of season 'cup final' at home!
