Absolutely gutted today :(
Had to put our second kitten down as he started to appear 'different' 2 weeks ago, then this week seemed very lethargic just like his brother did.
Took him to the vets yesterday and after some blood tests, he has cat Covid so today we decided to not let him suffer we would put him down
A picture a few weeks back with his older brother (not by blood) - RIP Zeus!

So sorry to hear that Andy, heartbreaking. Hopefully in time you will be able to let more furry ones into your life.
Thanks both.
No plans for new furry friends as lost 4 in the last 3 years (first one poisoned, second run over and the last 2 from feline covid) :(

"Bugger off with your camera, we're having a private conversation here" :) Are you going to get a skateboard for Bess? I've seen one on telly that is very good at skateboarding, though Mrs. P thinks I'm a simpleton for believing it. Prove her wrong Bess!

Cheers Ben, she was absolutely wonderful.
I promised myself that I wouldn't get another. But after a week of my my feeling really down my wife told me that I should look for another.

That looks like a bundle of trouble!
It's so wonderful seeing all these beautiful furry family members (I hate the term "pets" as they are far more than that). The pain of losing them is immense but we are so lucky to share their lives and love them as much as they love us.
I haven't seen my Mia for several weeks as serious illness crept up on me and I've just had five weeks in hospital and am now being cared for in a nursing home where I'm thankfully recovering and learning to walk again. Mia is currently being fostered by a lovely lady who is treating her like a family member and being allowed all the freedoms she has at home. It's such a comfort to me to know she's safe and being looked after so well although I am missing her a lot.

Also a shamefully tardy thanks for the get well messages, very kind. I was having problems walking, getting weaker and finally unable to even stand. I've had problems with my digestion for years and it transpires I have Ischemic Colitis which is poor blood flow to the intestines which over time causes scar tissue to form and reduce absorption of nutrients from food. This has resulted in my body, attempting to keep me alive has been using my muscles as a source of energy therefore making me progressively weaker. I'm now on a high protein diet and medication for life and lots of rehab to get back on my feet. I can only thank the fantastic nurses, doctors and all the staff of the NHS, amazing people.

the cat in red dwarf... You'd never get a cat to be a servant. You ever see a cat return a stick? "Hey, man. You threw the stick, you go and get it yourself, I'm busy. If you wanted the stick so bad, why'd you throw it away in the first place?" :eyebrows:

Why do they insist on jamming themselves onto spaces that are too small for them?
Mine would sometimes sleep on the arm of the settee instead of on the actual settee itself. Although he was crackers.
yes, they like small spots like cardboard boxes etc. mine had a habit of sleeping on the upstairs windowsill. on occasion she fell off. you would hear the thud as she landed on coalbunker with a bemused look on her face;)

yep mine would do that on the inside ledge which is about an inch and a half wide, and he was massive. He dozed off and fell a couple of times and finally abandoned the practice.

Lol - I know... He's always doing stuff that, as he's nuts! But a real wee cutie (little ball of fluff) - very affectionate and loves being cuddled. He sleeps under the covers in bed with Del all night, along with our little black and white cat, who sleeps on her pillow..
No wonder she wakes me up and complains that she's HOT!:D

cats have a higher internal temp to keep up so like warm places:)
Yeah, defo... It's the furry ginger one Del's snuggled up beside now on the sofa:)

Yes you are correct Marco. Tango is a 'rescue' cat. Left to her own devices by a near neighbour. Out in all wind and weathers and drinking water from our bird bath.
So we took her in one wet and windy night - seven years now - and she decided to stay. Tango is the most gentle cat we have ever had the pleasure of giving a comfortable, loving home to.
We are not sure of her age, but she is slowing down a lot and we reckon around 11 or 12. So getting on a bit now.
Fussy as f*ck mind - just like a pussy should be! :)

Sadly we had to have Harry put to sleep last night. He has had 4 seizures over the past 5 months.
Yesterday he had a fit at 5am and recovered well and we walked him in the morning, but he had a second at 2pm and was ok but was not quite right. But sadly he became very unsettled in the evening and was very anxious and we could see he wasn’t happy. We will miss him greatly, he was a wonderful gentle dog, who was just happy to be with us, and full of life.[emoji22]
As you can imagine I am devastated, but I know in my heart it was the right time for him, and let him pass with dignity and no pain. [emoji22]

Thanks Grant, he was a lovely boy, full of love and fun, and just wanted to be with me or Sue. We are in shock a bit, we knew the day would come but you’re never ready for it.
He will remain my avatar, is a good memory of him.
Sorry to hear about that. His coat was a lovely colour. The avatar will remind us all.

Of ALL the places the daft wee thing could go! Cats, eh?:D
Marco.
It's with a heavy heart that I came to the decision to rehome my little Mia. She's been living with a foster mum since I've been in hospital and then the nursing home and with the likelihood I'll be here for some time to come and also that Mia and her foster mum have clearly formed a very close bond I thought it for the best. I couldn't stand the thought of putting Mia through yet another house move, she absolutely hates the carrier box and all the stress of moving, and also it would break her foster mum's heart saying goodbye. So her foster mum is now her forever mum, I know they will be so happy together and that made the decision a little easier for me. Yes I will miss her and I'm feeling very sad but I know it is all for the best, after all my first priority is for Mia's care and happiness.

Really sorry to hear that Ian, that's got to be a tough gig.
Really tough :(
You've definitely done the right thing with minimising her (and your) stress, and you know she'll be cared for.

I for one will miss those great pics of what must be the prettiest cat on AoS :sofa: I wish her well for the future, sounds like she'll be fine. And hoping you get better soon Ian.
Hi Ian,
Firstly, I didn't know you were in hospital, and now a nursing home, so sorry to hear that. I wish you the best for a speedy recovery and return to home, presuming that is possible?
Being similarly a big cat lover, I also echo the sentiments from Steve and Jon about the terribly difficult decision you've made. People who aren't animal lovers simply don't understand what a wrench it is either coping with the death of beloved pet, or having to make the type of heartbreaking decision you've just made, which shows that you have Mia's best interests at heart.
As a cat owner myself (we have three), I know all too well the distress and trauma that they can go through in carrier boxes, when being taken to the vets, and worse, if they are left in kennels or taken to a strange home.
Obviously I'm unware of your particular circumstances, but was there no way of keeping Mia in her own home, with a neighbour, nearby friend or member of your family, popping in to feed her, etc, whilst looking after your house in your absence?
That's what we do with ours - our neighbour looks after our cats, when we're on holiday (for up to 3 weeks) and we return the favour by looking after theirs when they're away. This keeps the cat(s) in their own environment, where they're happiest, whilst also getting some regular human contact. It's not ideal of course, as the cat(s) would still miss their owner(s), but far better than putting them into kennels, as some folks do.
However, obviously that would only be sustainable for so long, therefore much depends on how long you'd be away for. Anyway, you've done a very brave, selfless and caring thing, so I commend you for that, and wish you all the best in your return to good health, or as close to that as is possible:cool:
Marco.
Firstly thankyou gents for your kind words, yes it was a very difficult thing to do but as Marco said it was the right thing for us all. Mia's new mum Lynn is a lovely lady and very experienced with the furry ones. Mia is so settled and content at Lynn's home and as she has been a house cat all her life loves the space, looking out of the windows and all the love and attention Lynn gives her and of course she has taken over the house, like cats do.
Regarding my situation my pancreas is failing, thankfully I don't have diabetes but an enzyme made in the pancreas that allows the body to process protein into muscle mass is not being made and as a consequence my muscles have atrophied and currently I can't stand or walk and I find most activities very tiring. There is a treatment using a synthetic enzyme that will help build muscle mass but the correct dosage is critical as too much can be fatal and too little will do nothing at all, it's a very fine line between the two. It will take three to six months of testing and observations to get the balance right. As I need quite a lot of help at the moment I will be staying here at the home for now and as i won't be able to return back to my flat because i won't be able to manage the layout, stairs etc, I'll be looking for a new , more suitable place to live. Lots of upheaval and changes but I just try to get on with things as best as I can.

+1 (with bells on). Take it easy Ian, and I'm sure Mia will be fine, and when you're better and have found a more suitable home, I'm sure you'll be able to give another needing like cat a good home:)

Ah yes, James Corden, with his face you'd never tire of punching.
On a happier note I still have lovely music to listen to, not quite vinyl and huge speakers but Spotify through my laptop into the splendid little headphone amp into my Sennheiser HD600's is very enjoyable and it doesn't upset the other residents when I have a loud session with Rage Against The Machine or a bit of Sex Pistols hahaha.

You want to be careful starting it with a cat. A friend of mine did that and the cat began a guerrilla war against him that made Castro look like an amateur.
That look on a man's face at the moment he realises that he can't win.

It's important for cats too. The difference is that with a dog you dictate the routine and the dog learns it. With a cat he dictates the routine and you learn it.

Easily done, just give it better food than it normally gets. They have zero loyalty.
Many years ago we moved into a friend's house for a fortnight, cat-sitting. Poor cat was used to having dog food, which I thought was a bit tight, so I got her a load of Whiskas Supermeat. Which she loved.
When the owners returned and we moved out, the cat buggered off and wasn't seen for a few days. The owners blamed me. As for the cat, I didn't get a thankyou, kiss me arse, nothing :(

That's a terrible thought, I do hope you are wrong. Just look at that face, so handsome in a rugged sort of way, clearly had quite a life. He deserves some comfort and safety in his autumn years.
Be sure to post here if and when he shows up.

He's failed to appear again today, Timid appeared at about 7:30 am this morning. She was even more frighted than usual. Gave her cat food, cat biscuits and some ham. She's on the shed roof just looking. Sad really.

I am pretty sure he's not alive, the fox population here has increased drastically recently.

a big cat is usually safe from foxes, but it could be. a car accident is possible too

Car accident is possible. Monster did not stray far from this house, occasionally when my food was not good enough! he would go to the house opposite for a change. The road is pretty quiet and I've looked for his body.

illness is another one. when they get ill they go off and hide usually. cat flu and covid etc can kill

Amazes me how many different expressions they can have even though the face is just eyes and fur.

I showed this video to the cat, and she did watch it closely before looking at me as if to say "I used to be able to do that before you made me fat with all those Dreamies."
Nothing to see here, just a dog in a hammock…

That tail looks fair dinkum
His mother did not have a tail, but to be honest, I think he looks better with a tail.
I don't think he was treated very well by his previous owners, so he is thriving on the attention he gets now.
He was shut in a small room in a flat, and hardly got to go out. That will change when we take him to Toulouse at the end of the month.
