On Thursday took both my lads to be neutered.
This morning took this picture of Morty, not sure if he's hungry or felling a bit sorry for himself.......

As children me and my brothers refused to allow our tom cat to be taken to be neutered so he stayed as a proper tom and had a great life fucking and fighting just like Fat Freddy's Cat ( or F. Frederick Skitty if you prefer). No downside (the resulting kittens are somebody else's problem) and he remained loyal and affectionate to us all. He grew into a huge creature with muscles like Frank Bruno. A visiting American colleague of my fathers saw him stalking about the back garden and thought it was a bob cat.
He would be gone for weeks at a time though, except when my father was away when he would not go far from the house and he'd be in every night to keep us safe.
He also rescued a stray and brought him back to live with us. I think so there would be another cat around to look after the den whilst he was away.

I do have one somewhere of him having a kip on top of the boiler, not on computer though.

Yeah, un-neutered toms are the daddy (literally).
We adopted one as a kitten from the RSPCA, and I don't think he ever stopped growing. But it was all rock hard muscle, and when you picked him up he felt like a bag of coal with legs. I used to wind him up by grabbing his face, and he would immediately wrap his arms round my wrist and pound at my arm with his back legs. I think he enjoyed it really, as he always knew what I was going to do but played along anyway. But he never once bit or scratched us. Same can't be said for the neighbour dogs whose proximity would never be tolerated. Don't know if any of the neighbours had cats, we never saw any.
Actually there was one - the neighbour claimed that her cat's new litter were the result of Riz's philandering, and so we agreed to take in one of the kittens. For all his good qualities, Riz proved to be a shit dad and wouldn't have anything to do with the new arrival. I don't think he wanted his daughter following him round cramping his style with the laydees.
He would disappear for days on end, then eventually he didn't come back at all. I think he went to join the circus.
He really was the best cat in the world, and so considerate. He once accidentally broke the toilet seat, and without being asked, he went down to B&Q , bought a new bog seat and fitted it himself.
I may have dreamt that last bit.
She protected my wife from an aggressive Mastiff yesterday by running forward about twenty metres in front of her and straight at the Mastiff, shifting side on and 'herding' the Mastiff so it couldn't get close. The owner of the Mastiff, who had rescued it the day before and knew that it was aggressive to people, apologised for having it off the lead, saying that she didn't think anyone would be around! When will people learn - she hasn't had time to get to know her dog yet!

indeed she is.. lovely dog... one of the miseries of being badly disabled is not being able to look after a pet.. great company, cats or dogs.

We miss having a dog. Our last one (Brian) was a big bugger, 11 stone, and no one would take him as he was so big. RSPCA had us put taller fence panels in, but he could still look over them. Then at 5 years he got bone cancer and went downhill quickly. Having him put to sleep was one of the most heartbreaking days of our life, and Anita vowed never to have another dog.
So she got a cat. Who's lovely, but a bit of a cul-de-sac. No way would she tolerate another animal coming into the house. So we're a cat family for probably the rest of our lives (cat will probably see me out.)
She's a real looker Geoff, a face you would love with at first sight! And it's nice to hear she's already protective of your family :)
Thank you, Steve. We are blessed to have been given her by somebody who was struggling to give her what she needs. Fortunately for us, we can and she is giving it all back to us in a lovely way.

Thats after waking me up at 4:30am by bouncing on my bladder then knocking over my glass of water and generally being a tw*t at that time of the morning.
Then, when i get up and usually stand in some kind of half eaten bird, vole, mouse etc on the landing, it’s then time to feed her, which she almost always decides to vomit up somewhere in my cottage, and at maximum volume.
Sometimes i’m happy just to leave for work, even if i’m lucky enough for her not to have skinned me alive just for stroking her.
When i arrive home from work she’s a little more amicable having done shit all during the day, bar shedding her fur all over any black clothing i own and doing her best to destroy my La-Z-Boy armchair by using it as a scratching post.
Then it’s feeding time again, and low and behold she distributes the food anywhere and everywhere with the added bonus of some sort of mouse guts in the mix via vomit.
This is what i get for asking the Blue Cross to give me the cat that no one wants or wants to re home.
Would i change anything…
Fcuk no, i wouldn’t change it for the world. She’s just perfect.

We had to say the final goodbye to Bruce at the weekend. After his usual walk around the block on Saturday morning he suddenly took a turn for the worse, couldn't seem to lift his head, breathing became very laboured and we knew something wasn't right.
We rushed him to the vets and they advised that he had likely had an organ failure or a possible ruptured tumour and that there was nothing they could do given its severe ty and his age. We took the decision to help him to the other side and end his pain, holding him, stroking him and cuddling him.
I'm amazingly thankful for the years we had with him, originally he was just going to be a Foster dog. He was doing so badly in the shelter we felt taking him home even for a few weeks would help him even if he wasn't quite the dog for us. That first afternoon through the front door we lay his bed down in the living room and he sat in it took a big sigh and it was as if he knew he was home. And that was kinda that.
He was always the softest most gentle of dogs around us and his 2 cat brothers and impeccably behaved with my brothers kids whenever they visited. He was usually happiest sitting in the sun in the back garden barking at overflying birds or whatever he assumed was going on behind the back fence. Always available to help if there was too much dinner on your plate or if the cat left anything in their bowl.
He was probably a few years older than the shelter lead us to believe, probably more like 5 or 6 than the 3 they estimated. So he'd made it to around 13 which is not a bad age for a staff. The last year or so he had slowed up a lot, his arthritis despite medicines was hard on him, walks had shortened a lot, he'd lost his hearing and seemed to be struggling a bit more.
Yesterday happened very quickly but it was the right time, I'm just glad we had him as long as we did.

It’s been ever since my mum took me into the reptile house at London zoo when I was about 4, the first thing I saw was a Boa about to swallow a bunny, I ran off screaming the place down, it freaked me out big time. I really don't mind snakes, they're quite fascinating, but you're not going to enjoy the social interaction and unconditional love that a dog can give you. I think snakes have only one view of the world and everything in it: Will that fit in my mouth? :D

I can't see a snake going down a toilet, they like warmth and toilet water is generally cold.
Ralph will grown to between 4 and 6 feet in length
think all snakes can swim although still breath air. Majority will only swim at surface tho.

They may not be the most affectionate of pets, but at least snakes can be interesting.
A few years ago we adopted a couple of terrapins from someone who was threatening to flush the buggers. Turned out to be strong contenders for the WORLD'S MOST POINTLESS PETS award. They were pretty much identical so there was no point giving them names. So they were both called Ronnie. The two Ronnies. The only way they would acknowledge our existence was in trying to bite anything that came close to them, ungrateful little bastards.
After two years of zero interaction, punctuated by a fortnightly tank clean (they could shit for England) and seeing them grow from biscuit-size to Hollands steak pie-size we finally called it a day and donated them to a turtle sanctuary, or Chinese restaurant or something. It was either that or "shell" out for a bigger tank. And that's just throwing good money after bad :(

No, I wouldn't have thought that, let's hope that you have many years more with her.
Our Tiddles (Mk1) got to 17 years. Tiddles (Mk2) got to about 12 years old.
The present Little Timid has a patchy face a bit like your Abella.

Abella is a tortoiseshell, so I suspect that your Little Timid is the same. Tortoiseshell tabby cats usually have a lovely laidback nature, quite independent, but also affectionate. Our house wouldn't be a home without our cats, and I'm sure you feel the same about yours:cool:

Well to begin with he really wasn't sure; when he felt brave he'd be right at the top of the rug, just to get some residual heat...
Now, at times, he'll be sat right in front of the fire and you can hear the daft bugger panting :lol:
But mid rug is his usual spot; means he can turn and turn to warm whatever's not regularly ;)

Funny my cat wasnt particularly interested in fish. she would take a little then just leave it.. Now Ham was her fav, followed by turkey and chicken

I don't think any of the cats I've had (there's been five) liked fish much. But they mostly went mental for chicken livers bought from the butchers. One of them, a big hard-as-nails tom, used to cry like a baby when he smelled them cooking

That's the spirit! Waste not want not. I got some chicken livers for our latest cat, but she just ignored them. Made me into a liar, but I'd just assumed all cats loved them. On the other hand she does like the prawns out of my 'special' Chinese curry. And this morning she's been sharing my crumpets, but I think that's just the butter.

One of my little boys passed away yesterday - looks like he got hit by a car as one of his eyes was bulging out :(
Buried him yesterday - his brother seems OK so far - wife has said he is no longer allowed out (we have a leash so took him out in the garden this morning - he was not happy)

Very sad.. poor soul. Hope the other doesnt pine too much. Not sure leashing a cat is a good idea, but understand why. Cats will be cats tho, and if used to getting out it will annoy.

He definitely wants to go out (he did sneak out earlier on but managed to get him back)
Spoke to the vets this morning and they told me to keep an eye on him as they can show signs of grief (normally not eating) but so far he seems OK.

That's very sad news Andy, I hope all of you will be OK. I have always had indoor cats, I know it's not a natural life for them and it means a lot more thought required to ensure they have plenty to fill their days. My little Mia still has all the health checks and jabs just in case she goes out.

Thanks Steve, but he / she did not turn up again today, he / she is completely deaf, so probably more vulnerable to be run over. Little Timid has taken over Monster's time slot in the morning, she normally waits till Monster has been and gone.

One of my little boys passed away yesterday - looks like he got hit by a car as one of his eyes was bulging out :(
Buried him yesterday - his brother seems OK so far - wife has said he is no longer allowed out (we have a leash so took him out in the garden this morning - he was not happy)

Thanks Ben. We have recently discovered that she is blind in one eye as the probable result of a head trauma as a puppy. She is lovely but there is a bit of work to do with her acceptance of adult males especially. It is no wonder given what it is likely to have happened to her in her early months.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean, mate, as I was the same. For any cat or animal lover, dealing with a death of a beloved pet is one of the most distressing things you'll ever experience.
However, much as I hate dealing with the loss of any pet, I simply couldn't live without one, or preferably two or three! The joy of having their company for many years simply outweighs everything else:)

I visit this place every 2 weeks as part of my job , 2 weeks ago I was throwing bits of bread out of the van window for him/her , back there again today he fly’s onto the mirror ( I didn’t even notice) he starts singing so I fed him little bits of my turkey and cranberry sandwich, he came back 5 times throughout the day and even perched himself on the top of the half open door window . I have 5 different videos ( unable to post those ) there was another plump robin with him too .

When outside we have a large stick (small branch from our tree) kept near the door and he wants you to run around the garden while he chases it and tries to take it down like he would if chasing an animal - quite cool to watch actually.

It's been about 6 months since we lost our old fella bruce and we have really been missing having a dog about the house. With the news that an enforced working from home situation was about to kick in (plus a cancelled week away in barcellona) we made the decision to bring forward our dog adoption plan.
Luckily for us our local rescue had a dog that my wife liked the look of and we went to meet her the same day. Rudi as shes now known is a 7 month old staffi cross, (possibly with a whippet or a kangaroo).
Shes been with us for 2 weeks now and it's been generally great, shes lovely and friendly with other dogs we've encountered (shes on an extendable lead whist we are out keeping our distance) and she gets in well with our 2 cats even if she can be a bit bouncy for them.
I fully expected it be a long and difficult road to finding a dog who could replace Bruce, even now I still miss him loads but Rudi is doing such a great job.
In these difficult times it's really good having her to keep us sane and smiling.

But cats are such nosey buggers - lost count of the number of times I've gone to get something from the van (open tailgate), and have someone's cat make a hasty exit. Never taken a cat home in the van, but probably just a matter of time!

It was the sunlight through the window turning her multicoloured. She's brown tabby with a sandy tummy. She's also going to be a proper little madam now she's seen your post Steve :lol:

To be fair I think most cats are pretty, even Spendorman's Monster Cat friend, with his ruggedly handsome Spartacus looks. The exceptions are those bald cats with bat's ears. Not keen on them.

I tried changing Alice's batteries recently. She didn't like it one bit :( Especially as I realised I'd got the polarity wrong and had to take them out again. I'll definitely wear gardening gloves next time

I remember the one and only time I stroked Alice's belly. It wasn't scratches, but a full on death-bite. Went a bit septic too.

There’s 9 houses in the lane where i live and most of us own cats.
And when i say own, i actually mean share.
It’s not unusual to find that a neighbours cat has wondered into my kitchen and is tucking into my cats food.
