I can't stand most of the Upper class people here in the UK. The same thing goes to their Lower class counterparts.
I just simply dislike their bloody ways, followed by the way they speak and their annoying accents!
Call me a miserable sod if you like...I'll take it as a compliment :)

what about those bastards in the middle? they are worse still.... acht, this country has been ruined by em all!!!
The ones in the middle are indeed the worst of them all - especially the 'aspiring' variety! :wanker:

Well that only leaves a couple of acceptable (?) small boundary groups that fall between those mentioned. Must be us! :D
Don't do 'labels', mate. I am who I am (a daftee), and that's it :)
Marco.
I guess few people, if any, would like to have labels attached and I expect most people think of themselves as individuals rather than as representatives of one class or another. It is perhaps as well that we cannot see ourselves others see us.
walpurgis
02-05-2016, 21:39
People may not want labels. But stereotyping seems to evolve of its own accord. And individuals tend to be drawn to associating with others of their 'type', whichever or whatever that may be.
I just find the whole thing rather vulgar. Also, quite often those who *think* that they belong in a specific class category are simply kidding themselves on! ;)
As long as you're not a chav, don't worry about it! :eyebrows:

I don't worry about anything much, but I find the class system fascinating, especially the demonisation of whole swathes of people as 'chavs' or toffs'. I guess it's no longer OK to do that sort of thing on the basis of race or ethnicity, and class is all we have left.
It used to be simple, you could work out someone's class from their hat/cap.
Maybe we could go back to that system. Not with hats though, how about different coloured T shirts?

Bring back the Blazer I say!
Lol, and funny handshakes? :eyebrows:
Elocution (how one pronounces words, in terms of diction, etc), upbringing, level of education and general manners, are in my experience good indicators of someone's 'breeding', which I prefer to use to gauge a person's 'status', as it were, rather than 'class'.
Money (as in the contents of one's bank account) doesn't come into it at all. You could be a multi-millionaire, and still be an oik! ;)
In fact, the majority of the gentry are cash-poor, but asset-rich. Cash is considered as vulgar. That's just how it is.

Not enough pipe-smokers around these days either. Those vaping things don't have the same cache, and are not as good for pointing, prodding or stabbing the air to make a point.
Over 'Fifties only. Younger men smoking pipes just looks pretentious; unless they have a full beard, of course.
Yes, bring back cravats and smoking jackets, too! And ban women from the 'smoking room' after dinner, and of course, the golf club... :eyebrows:

Yes, it seems to be getting worse by the hour! I know there are a lot of crap more mature drivers out there, but what does modern driving tuition teach? Most drivers don't seem to be able to cope with the basics of driving.
The other thing is that are a lot of folk with cars who patently don't like driving, have no passion for it and only own a car out of necessity - and so essentially are shit at it!
It's no coincidence, therefore, that these are usually the folk who are selfish, inconsiderate, inattentive and indecisive behind the wheel, guilty of the stupidity that pisses everyone else off!!
So how do we cure the problem?
Simple. Sell cars/issue licences ONLY to 'proper drivers' [a suitably rigorous test would be required to prove this]: folk with a real passion for both DRIVING and cars, and who qualify as proficient and considerate drivers on the road, and ban the rest of the fannies. JOB DONE - and you've cured the traffic congestion problem at a stroke!! :D :exactly:
Marco.

Cunning as your solution is, Marco, we seem to be going down the self-driving cars route, which would also solve all those problems in a heartbeat.

Lol... There's certainly too much non-love for the humble automobile these days, and with successive governments, through ridiculously ill-conceived legislation, determined to suck all the joy out of motoring!!

The durable simplicity has certainly been legislated out of diesel cars. Even petrol cars are getting over complex.
Bring back simple motors with rear live axles, pushrod engines with points and SU carbs I say!! :D
That would be fun :)
It would also encourage motorists to take a bit more of an interest in what happens underneath the hood! ;)
It never ceases to amaze me how many car 'drivers' these days don't even know where the dipstick is - usually it's the one behind the wheel!!

As in the case of when a teacher said 'Stand up, Hughes' and the whole class rose to its feet.
Another peculiarity is the luck/luke split in pronouncing the word 'look' on Merseyside. I had a schoolfriend in Birkenhead whose nickname was 'Luke' because that's how he pronounced the word, the rest of us saying 'luck'.

They don't make life simple. Using eBay just gets more complex. If you have to talk to eBay it's (IMHO) best to try in the morning /early afternoon. That's when you mostly get thru to someone in Dublin who speaks & understands what you're trying to say.If you ring in the Evening you mostly get someone in Manilla who may speak English but who hasn't got a scoobie when it comes to understanding you..
Arriving at the staion with a few minutes to spare I go into the Smashing Pumpkins place to find it has changed from a seedy canteen/newsagent to a barista coffee bar place.
Net result it now takes 10 minutes to serve each punter a coffee instead of the ten seconds it used to take. Massive queue. Finally get served minutes to spare an it's 'Would you like a bottle of water for your journey? '
Yes a complimentary bottle of water. Very kind of you I will
Two pounds she wants!! So no. No, I don't want a little bottle of water for two bleeding quid. Do I look like I have brain damage? Do I look like a millionaire? If I wanted you to rape me for two quid I would have asked for a bottle of water. What a load of bollocks.

So-called driverless cars. Not the theory, just the amount of attention devoted to their apparent immediacy.
No-one wants to be the next Michael Fish re October '87 but even the manufacturers are looking to 2025+ for non-motorway capability on true driverless (hands off for >2minutes) and how long will it take to work through:
- civil legal liability for accidents being down to the owner or the manufacturer ?
- civil legal liability for software hacks, or, people inducing accidents ?
- statutory legal liability including harmonising each nation's equivalent of the Road Traffic Act across territories for travel outside the UK ?
- potentially retaking the driving test to ensure the control specifics of each model is understood ?
- plant, HGVs, classic cars ?
Many folks like driving, which is why we choose manual over automatic transmission.
This won't be a major issue in my time.
Pete
I've always thought that too. They can do it but the problem is no-one will want one. At least not enough people for it to be worth going through all the hassle you describe.

My car's driverless, I'm not in it at the moment.
Reminds me I've seen a classic driving hate recently:
Parking your car on a narrow but busy road during rush hour. Yes you've parked a bit up on the kerb but it is a BMW estate not Noddy's toytown jalopy so it still blocks enough of the lane to make an effective blockage. With constant traffic each way and a major 4 way junction within 40 feet this creates a serious problem very quickly. All the properties have driveways so you could have considered parking there even though, yes, it would mean it would take you some time to get back out into the traffic.
But it is okay! All okay! Because you put your hazard lights on! Silly me, I'm so sorry. Please feel free to carry on being a dick to the entire rest of the world. With your idiotic hazard lights on.

Sandwich filler could be egg mayo, tuna & sweetcorn, etc., and yes, you can still get Heinz Sandwich Spread. I actually like it. A dollop on top of a scotch egg cut in halves is tasty.
Lol - each to their own, matey. I don't like or eat processed shit like that. Point taken though, in terms of it might not have been that stuff in jars. It's just that's what I'd normally associate with 'sandwich filler'.

It's not my normal choice in food.
I do tend to get through a fair amount of mayonaise in sarnies though. I can make my own but don't. Tesco stock a Polish mayo that's very pleasant. Tastes like the real home made thing.
http://i67.tinypic.com/nx03t2.jpg
Mayo is disgusting. As are those pastes lol. Jelly piece or a couple of links n brown sauce and your talkin... Even a nice bit of chicken and tomato sauce
Lol... Nah, mayo is fine, in my book, as long as it's good quality, such as the Polish stuff Geoff's talking about, or preferably home-made. Now salad cream (a uniquely British invention), that's a different matter altogether! :spew:
I'm with you though on the roll and square sausage with broon sauce!
However, for something healthier I'm rather partial to some lovely thick farmhouse wholemeal bread, filled with tuna mayo and sweetcorn, or 'farmhouse white' bread (must have a nice thick, well-fired crust), filled with some oak-smoked Wiltshire ham (on the bone) with home-made piccalilli, or Welsh Black Bomber extra-mature cheddar cheese and Branston pickle... Yum, yum! :)
Marco.
It was kne of my pet hates.. When working and starvin' you,d go into a shop for a sarnie and everything had salad cream or more likely mayo in them:doh: i mean, not everyone likes it.. Youd be lucky if there was a scabby cheese one without... Then when you taste it the spread they used tasted like mayo coz it was cheap disgusting stuff, that had a use by last year:D

Lol - I get that. It's all down to the experiences you've had. Fortunately, with mayo, all mine have so far been good :)
Perhaps we should start a new thread: favourite and/or weird sandwich fillings?
Suvf4AlgA0A
Marco.
My least favourite as a lad were banana sandwiches. OK if eaten as soon as made; less so after being kept in a Tupperware container for several hours in a warm classroom; inedible if (as sometimes happened) the Tupperware container lid wasn't shut properly.
Lol... Eurgh... I can almost *taste* that!
The sandwiches mum made for me for school were legendary, especially in primary, with fillings such as salami, home-made pate or Parma ham, which back then in the 70s was rather 'exotic' to say the least! It's an Italian thing.
Also, if it was a Monday, she'd often pack the leftovers from Sunday lunch, and if we'd had roast chicken, there'd be some nice chicken drumsticks or thighs, wrapped in tinfoil, and infused with garlic and fresh rosemary (from our garden), in my lunch box - absolutely gorgeous, and would have the teachers wanting to try some, as the aroma pervaded the classroom... :)
Happy days!
Marco.
Thursdays it was invariably jam sandwiches, because that was my father's pay day and the 'normal' fillings had all run out by then. We were quite poor, something that only hit me later on.
Didnt get a packed lunch. I went home for a meal as school at primary was next to house lol. At secondary i usually didnt eat at lunch time as i had swim training or weightlifting training.. Then just swimming as the 2 didnt go together well due to muscle groups.
You make the most of what you've got, Joe. It's as simple as that.
I was fortunate that we'd bring back a lot of stuff from Italy, which was a fraction of the price it would've cost here, if you indeed could find it, and my mum was a fabulous cook (nothing fancy though, just good traditional Italian home-cooking), and so there was always something nice to eat in the house.
Marco.

I had school dinners for a couple of years. The worst was when we had swimming, which meant we couldn't eat at the usual time, so that by the time we were allowed to eat, the grave had solidified, the custard had gone rock-hard, and so we tended to skip lunch altogether. Then I nagged my mother into letting me take a packed lunch instead.

Unfortunately, neither school I went to (primary or secondary) was near home. Primary school was about 5-6 miles away, and my dad would drive me there and back every day. Secondary school was about 8 miles away, and so I took the school bus, as of course I was older by then.
The food in secondary school was boggin! So I tended to avoid it, where possible.
However, the school was in Paisley, just outside of Glasgow, and only a five minute walk from town, so I used to 'dine out' most of the time, especially in 5th and 6th year, where, after a quick change of clothes, I'd often take my (then) girlfriend (same year as me in school) for a nice 'business lunch' at the local Italian or Chinese restaurant, and then back to school later, after some rumpy-pumpy in a secret place we knew! :eyebrows:
It was a great way to work off a big plate of spag Bol, and also 'focussed the mind' later, if she was in the same class...! :D
Marco.
I used to take a packed lunch in as the school food was appalling. My mother would make the sandwiches the night before. The cat would always be there, sat on the side while she made them, and would be given the scraps.
My mother considered food to be a waste of money so it was never anything exciting. One week I had been feeling a bit ropey after lunch each day and my suspicion was on the sandwiches which were chicken 'roll' ('mechanically recovered' meat pressed into a roll shape).
I mentioned this to my mother and she remarked ' Oh yes it could be that chicken roll. The cat wouldn't touch it. I had to buy the more expensive one for him to eat. I'll start giving you some of his one instead.'

I seen my father sit on the floor rather than disturb the cat sleeping on his chair. And my mother lives on about 100 calories a day, always has, so can't really grasp the whole notion of 'eating', let alone eating well.
Cool. Each to his or her own. My mum was tallish and slim, and took a size 8/10 in clothes for as long as I can remember, but ate like a horse! Never needed to worry about calories. She was very active though, right up until she died at 80.
It's simply a culture thing though: most (but not all) Brits eat to live... The rest of Europe (particularly the French, Italians and Spanish) LIVE TO EAT! Our whole existence revolves around what nice things we're going to be eating (or drinking) on any specific day, and it's a big topic of conversation whenever we have family gatherings. It's a similar thing all over Europe.
I simply couldn't imagine life any other way :)

Looking for some TV to watch last night, came across a program entitled 'World's Biggest Flamethrower' - yep that will do for me. Turned out I was tired and had misread; it was actually 'World's Biggest Flowermarket'.
Imagine my disappointment etc.

I've got one of those long gas fueled weed blasters. It's a right good bit of kit. I'm sure a bit of thought could turn it into something quite spectacular.
Yes, seen a home made one using a bicycle pump. My thinking is that many of life's everyday problems and issues could be quite easily solved with flamethrowers.
We made our own version of those for drying off bridge decks. Used a gas burner like blowtorches use and a compressed air line. All on a long pole.. Boy do these work. Saved us days of work and waiting time...everyone wanted us to make some up for them lol

I had thoughts along those lines as I drove past the dozens of traveller caravans illegally parked on the village green today. A salvo of mortar rounds would not go amiss either, just to emphasise the 'we'd like our green back' message.
The shelling would make a mess of the green. But I suppose the craters would fill with rainwater over time and then you would have picturesque duck ponds.

It wouldn't be so bad, but the local rather corny little 'Village Day' festival is supposed to be on Saturday and held on the green. No chance with these fuckers around!

I am just the same, just a few day ago or so I was looking for some clamps. I have loads of them somewhere, eventually found two, and that did the job.

I used a handful of mole grips eventually. They'll do the job. I really need to re-sort the workshop. It's getting a bit disorganised again.
After ive been in doing something it is a disaster area so next time im in a have to spend an hr tidying it up so i can find stuff again... Its so small and has a lot of stuff in, that its easy to cause chaos....and i hate chaos lol

Those people must lead remarkably stress and frustration free lives as a result of being so organized. The downside is they spend hours every day tidying and arranging when they could be doing something more productive, like drinking and watching TV.
The only time I was ever organized was when I was young and poor and all my worldly possessions would fit in half a dozen boxes and a couple of carrier bags. Not hard to be tidy and organized when you have hardly anything to tidy and organize.
I miss that really. I have a hankering to get rid of everything non-essential and then keep it that way. I think it is some sort of mid-life crisis coming on. I shall treat it with alcohol and see if it clears up.

Me too, but there is 'lived in' and there is having rooms that are no longer actually accessible.
When I first moved into this house I had nothing except the stereo, record collection, a few CDs and a telly. No fridge, washing machine, bed or furniture. Spent the first night kipping on the floor of the living room in a sleeping bag, surrounded by boxes. My mate who was lodging with me for a couple of months while he did a training course let himself in the next morning and trod on me thinking I was just a pile of bedding. He was a fat bastard and had a penchant for wearing jump boots so it bloody hurt.
Now the place is full to the gunwhales. I have a need to simplify.

LOL yes I've experienced that phenomena too. First Law of Life: 'Your junk will expand to fill the space available to it, regardless of any attempt made to prevent it.'
Of course you can get beyond that and have it expand beyond the available space. Then you get like my mate's house where you push open the front door and the foot or two deep layer of garbage on the floor gets pushed along in a sort of 'wave' down the length of the room. He does clear up once a year or so, though. He did a video once, before and after, but it isn't on line.

We've got way too much stuff. Even the loft's full of toys that were kept for grandchildren who seem unlikely to appear. Ironically, having got rid of our old sofas, we now have nothing to sit on in the sitting room!
Thankfully my loft is empty. I did buy some boards for it so I could put more stuff up there but decided the beams looked a bit fragile (the house turned 115 years old this year) so never attempted it.

Our house is a mere 103 years old. The loft isn't actually boarded, it just has some planks laid across the beams. One day I'm sure to put my foot through a ceiling trying to get the Christmas decorations out.

I reckon Tesco quality is a bit off, would rather shop at Lidl. Last year I bought a steak pie in Tesco, supposedly one of their better ones, almost more air in it than anything else. I took pictures, complained to them. At least they responded and gave me a gesture of goodwill.

Yes. Some of their pies and filled slices are revolting, containing a meagre amount of unidentifiable grey sludge. The outer 'meat' part of their scotch eggs is horrible too. Grey and rubbery, nothing like sausage meat at all. However the free range egg items from the deli counter are quite nice.

I love Scotch Eggs, Mum made lovely ones. Tesco and Sainsburys ones are not nice in my view, just taste of horrible fat. The Lidl ones are better, and cheaper.

It's clearly 'tung'. But is 'book' pronounced 'buck' or 'bewk', and is 'Shrewsbury' pronounced Shrowsbury or Shoesbury?
Or just plain Shrewsbury.... As in The Taming of the Shrew: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Taming_of_the_Shrew
Personally, I can't see why the 'r' should be silent, or why it should be replaced with an 'o'.

English words are notorious for being pronounced oddly. We always called it 'Shrowsbury', and we used the word a fair bit, as it was the Diocese in which our church and school were located. The locals mostly pronounce the word the way it's spelt. Another one is 'scone'; we always pronounced it 'skon', and thought pronouncing it 'skown' was just being poncy.
'There's a place in these parts called Mow Cop. You can look it up, there is no higher point further south in England, But it is 'Mau Cop' as in 'Chairman Mau' not 'Mow' as in 'old man went to mow'. Had to go up there once and got a bollocking off the bus driver for pronouncing it wrong.

'...the brutal murder...'
Just heard that used on the news. I'm thinking but how can a murder not be brutal?
And another that seems to be getting more popular. Beginning the answer to a question with 'So...'
Q 'Are you doing any special training for this event?'
A 'So, I've talked this over with my coach and ...blah blah...'
Why?

how can a murder not be brutal?
A barely discerned jab with some potassium chloride or a subtle gassing with carbon monoxide?
You'd be surprised at how unbrutal strangling can be. Not to be confused with choking a person which is crude and horrible. Strangling only requires moderate pressure at the right point to cut off the blood supply to the brain and is not particularly painful. There a number of ways to apply this. I studied them. They are unarmed combat techiques. I've had it done to me in training and contest, just to the point of losing conciousness. It wasn't fatal! :)
It would seem to me that killing someone is by definition a brutal act in and of itself, is the method relevant?
I suppose it depends on our definition of 'brutal'.

Fair play. So suffocating the wife in her sleep is to murder her, whereas hacking her to death with the electric carving knife is to brutally murder her?
Still seems like an odd distinction to make to me but I suppose there is no arguing with the OED ;)

Painting, and, still worse, all the tedious preparatory shite that goes with it. I used to quite enjoy it, stick the radio on, paint a bit, have a cuppa, rinse and repeat. Now it's just tedious and if I listen to the radio my attention wanders so I splodge paint where paint isn't needed, so I have to work in silence.
Have you heard of painter and decorators? Employ some, and you can safely not have to worry about such tedium in future!

No. Good on them but no, it doesn't excite me. My level of excitement is reading between low and non-existent. I missed the bloke breaking his leg but as we are now living in the future a work colleague insisted on showing it to me on their 'mobile device.'
Speaking of which, we have been issued video phones at work. Not some sort of computer link but proper traditional phones fitted with little HD screens like in Space 1999 or 2001 . That's not my beef. My beef is that everyone has the camera switched off, except me and 2 others I have managed to convince. What is the point of living in the future if when you finally get the much promised video phones everyone just shuts the camera off?
No. Good on them but no, it doesn't excite me. My level of excitement is reading between low and non-existent.
I also remain similarly nonplussed, as the 'lympics bores me to tears marginally less than cricket! I'll stick to football, rugby and tennis.... In that respect, Andy Murray (a Scot) did well again, winning gold. That was about the only time I expressed any signs of 'excitement'.
Marco.
The Govt and Local Govt would have you believe that they are committed to promoting good health and exercise (not only to maintain a healthy weight) and that they are committed to providing safe cycling for all. Taken from Surrey CC strategy document from 2012 following the London Olympics.
5. We will improve infrastructure for cycling by securing funding to develop high quality, joined up cycle routes, taking account of international best practice, utilising off road and quiet streets, and separating cyclists from motorised traffic on busy roads where feasible. We will focus our efforts on routes that connect where people live with where they work, shop and go to school and with rail and bus stations for longer journeys.
7. We will implement measures to make cycling in Surrey safer for all. In addition to the infrastructure and training measures described above, we will work with the Drive SMART Partnership3 to deliver media and publicity campaigns targeting safety and awareness for cyclists and motorists, alongside enforcement measures.
Brilliant......err...so why then are Cyclists (Yes, I am one of the "Scum of The Earth" lycra clad MAMILS) in Surrey still riding on the most delapidated/holed/irregular surfaced part of the road, with sunken/broken drains and man-hole covers. Roads are not re-surfaced any more - they are "Patched". The "patches" are for the benefit of vehicle users. The part of the road that cyclists use is ignored when "repairing".
I don't expect any sympathy for mine and others plight, but once again it is "lip service" to what they think they should waste their time and money on, and have meetings to discuss more meetings and why meetings didn't go on long enough as "gobshite" was on holiday....again.....so they had to convene another meeting. In the meantime they would carry out another feasibility study and publish more documentation to satisfy those in other meetings who then held a meeting about lack of progress:lol:

The function of local government is to talk a lot and do as little as possible.
I have to contact mine nearly every week over missed refuse/recycling collections. This has been going on for months, since they 'improved' the service.
Everything is just a box-ticking exercise these days. Providing all the boxes have been ticked there is no need to actually do anything of any substance.
Those of us who still take personal pride in actually achieving positive results, regardless of whether anyone else notices, or even cares, are looked upon as aberrations, or in the worst case, as troublemakers.
Around here there is a cycle path from edinburgh to nearly glasgow. Until the train was reinstated it was a lovely ride. Still there but not as nice overall. Still, its better than most have. Alas, on normal roads, there is nothing, and you have to take your chances, which aint good lol. I cant ride a bike now but used to enjoy it.

'Phone ringing any time is a pain in the arse. But it is usually when you have just
a) gone to the bog, as you say, or got in the shower
b) sat down to eat
c) sat down to watch a film or programme you have been eagerly anticipating. Ideally it will ring just a couple of minutes in for maximum annoyance.
d) said to yourself 'Ah finally some peace and quiet!'
Microwaveable ready meals that ask you to peel back the clear film on top of the carton, only to find that the self same clear film refuses to co-operate and tears in 6 different directions after a 3 minute struggle...
Solution: don't eat that shite in the first place! Cook food with FRESH ingredients instead ;)
Marco.

But you are right, ready meals are only one up from a Pot Noodle. Not that I ever turn down a Pot Noodle you understand.
You get very good ready meals, that are healthy and tasty, as well as garbage ones.
The ones that don't have old Boxer chopped up in them you mean? ;)
The decent ones are so expensive you might as well go down the Chinese.

I believe the upmarket ones use reconstituted Chihuahua :D

I'm fond of the sweet "n" sour flavour misself. It's great pimped up with a bit of chilli sauce.
They don't do my all time fave anymore though.... The original back in the day "Cheese and Tomato"

Jockeys contain highly assailable protein. That's a well known fact.
What if you find a baw hair?
Marco.
Oh you keep them. Good tooth cleaners
With or without dandruff? Sometimes you get a few wee flakes....

Pubic hair is Nature's dental floss.
I now envisage a correlation between dental hygiene and sexual promiscuity! :eyebrows:
Marco.
Poor mans cookery classes is as follows.....
Rat au Van (a rat that's been run over by a van),
Filet mignon in Sauce Bearnaise (dog turds covered in glue),
Plum duff (a mole hill decorated in rabbit droppings),
Cream custard (cat's vomit),
Coffee (hot mud), with milk (spit), sugar (dandruff) and rather dubious 'chocolate sprinkles' (try and guess what that one is) .
Apple crumble which contains fish
More rat; sautée, which involves:
taking the freshly shaved rat and marinading it in a puddle.....'till it's drowned
stretching it out under a hot lightbulb
getting within dashing distance of a latrine
scoffing it right down!
Rat fricassée, which is the same as above, but a slightly bigger rat.

That would put the issue to bed. Or maybe you should sleep on it first?

That particular type of packaging that teases you with a corner to pull to open it then when you do just the corner comes off and you end up taking a knife to it anyway :steam:
It's depressing that we have a thread of 172 pages listing all the things to be unhappy about. I'm starting a gratitude thread right now.
People complaining about people complaining. That's the worst thing of all ;)

People who THINK they can text and drive at the same time. If they think they can, then their driving is shite. In a five-mile trip this morning, to the hospital, I've seen a lorry driver (and I mean an arctic) with the driver f'ing texting. Delivery drivers texting. The list goes on. Moronic cretins. Rant over.

I totally agree. There are still loads of drivers using moblies as they drive. I've had a go at them occasionaly.
The incorrect use of the word " Barter " when the word " Haggle " is what is meant. Barter is the exchange of goods or services for other goods or services by mutual agreement, to haggle is to reach an acceptable trade by way of bargaining. My pedantry knows no bounds.
I find James Cordon very annoying, and he has a very punchable face

Well bear in mind that he's bulky enough to probably be able to punch back quite well! :D

I'm six feet two and twenty odd stone but even so I suspect his minders would make short work of me. It's just that he's so smug, still if I had his money so would I so well done James
Never heard of him:doh:
You haven't missed anything Grant.
The people who really get up my nose are the so called 'celebs', such as Kim Kardashian, who seem to be famous simply by being famous. What talent, or skills do they actually have, apart from coming from a wealthy background?
Self promotion?
It's the only thing I can think of.
It is a talent in itself, is what I mean.
We have always had celebrities, and always will. People like to read about and watch their heros and villians. They had celebs in ancient Rome, it is nothing new.

And why do we keep having to see Stacey Solomon? She has a passing resemblance to a crocodile.

Who she? Oh - on second thoughts, if she is another 'celeb', I don't think I'm that bothered to know.

Ah that's an important distinction. 'Personalities' have a personality; whether it is celebrated or not is a different matter.

What does she advertise? Otto Sump's Ugly Parlours?
Heard her name but thats all...no idea who she is nor desire to find out, unless she is a stoater who fancies me ;)

Mock ye not! Apparently she can gobble a nice 'thick one', whole.... :eyebrows:
Marco.
The "Cult Of Celebrity" has a lot to answer for and a lot of sheepish young followers. I was appalled to see that girls as young as 9 are concerned that they are ugly and don't have this or that, that the magazines or "apps" etc tell is an absolute must. Mrs Puffin watches a lot of tele, bless her, and on occasion I will "cock an eye" over the AOS page to see what is going on...or more to the point...what all the fucking cackling on the box is. Stacey Solomon may not be the sharpest tool in the box but she is pretty genuine....even in her own skull thickery, and is savvy enough to put herself down, which often means that someone has a good insight into their own limitations. She is now teamed up with Joe Swash (yes, you may need to Google him) and they make a very good honest couple. IMO of course.

Fridge magnets. My family plaster our fridge with them. Why?
Every time I use the fridge or brush against the stupid things they shower onto the floor. I should bin them! :steam:
Degauss the fridge so they won't stick to it.

I've got a degausser. ;)
Used to use those on telly tubes. Always needing degaussed in old days. Colours went out of sync and reds, greens n blues all out of step, especially at ends of tube.( screen)

Yep. I stood a box of Audax midrange units with big magnets next to one of the TVs and ended up with a green/purple patch on one side of the screen! :D
