Cheers Tim, giving it a go now - I like it so far. (Her voice reminds me a bit of Beth Orton, who I spotted is touring in the Autumn... Norwich Arts Centre on the 21st October, which is where her mum and my parents were involved in setting it up back in the late 70's!)

I did not know that, I really like Norwich Arts Centre, been to quite a few gigs there - yeah she is a bit Beth Orton ish, shades of Anna Calvi as well. I think it's a great album.

Hmm, that's a tricky one as Joan evolves a lot.
Joan Wasser, but releases music as Joan as Police Woman. I believe that nickname came as she used to drive a big beat up old American police cruiser. She was Jeff Buckley's fiancee of 3 years at the time he died, so I often feel her music is an extension of his. Can be dark and broody - often described as alt, indie pop/rock, but I think that's a poor description as she has her own style, as most singer songwriters do. You could try her first album from 2006, Real Life. If you don't like that you probably don't need to go much further. I like her a lot, met her once and she bollocked me for not turning my flash off when taking a picture
