You were fortunate to see The Neil Cowley Trio. I have never seen them - in fact I attend very few concerts these days, but I do have a few of their CDs.


So prompted by your post, I'm playing their debut CD:

Good to see you on here, Tim, and yes I believe it was me that piqued your interest in Neil Cowley - will put some on now, as I was struggling with what to play.

There have been many over the years you've introduced me to, but I don't remember Patty Griffin so will give that a try, too! Coincidentally as Martin was playing Marillion, Afraid of Sunlight was one of theirs you introduced me to and is still a firm favourite so that may get a spin tonight as well.

As it seems to be the done thing I put this on last night after seeing Martin was also playing Marillion. Followed by the album that got me back into Marillion, Marbles . . . . two of my favourites.

Neil Cowley was extremely good live Barry, he's very chatty which I wasn't expected. He clearly enjoys interacting with the audience and at some interludes he was superior to some stand-up comedians I've seen!
It was a great night in quite a small intimate venue, so it felt like a concert amongst people you've' known for years.

First Madonna album which been meaning to get for about thirty years or so.

Could not find an '80s original so this is a remaster from about 2000.

I really only like 'Holiday', 'Borderline' and 'Lucky Star' - this is the first time I ever heard them in hi-fi quality. I have her 'Ray Of Light' album but that was charity shop 30 pence and I'm not that keen although it isn't terrible. I prefer early 'Squeaky' Madonna.

It's a really '80s sounding album isn't it?

Confusingly, the album cover Martin has posted is the original cover photo for "Madonna" when it was first released on vinyl. Following the success of the singles and presumable good sales of the album and the arrival or Like A Virgin it was renamed "The First Album" and had the revised cover photo, which is the copy you have, Steve. Eiiher way, I think it's a brilliant album, but it is definitely very 80's, Martin!

The cover I posted a pic of is the cover off the remastered CD I have. I don't know what the cover was on the original CD release as I couldn't find one.
