Maybe in the Moore era, but Connery never got on that well with 'M' so I doubt he got many expense chits signed off. He even has to get the train home in 'From Russia With Love' and when he totals his Aston in 'Goldfinger' he doesn't get another one.
That he's a smoker actually saves the world in 'You Only Live Twice.'

Suspect he never went in a corner shop in his life. Especially not the sort that have 'Western Union' signs outside.

Can't believe it's just over 2 years since Grant passed away.
Sorely missed.

There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing and be nothing Aristotle
When I was a student I used to smoke Fribourg and Treyer Number One cigarettes:
For roll-ups of a more illegal nature, I used Golden Virginia rolling baccy.
Sad to think it is two years ago that we lost Grant. I still like to think he is somewhere sharing a dram or few with the bluesmen and jazz players whose work he so enjoyed hearing. We still miss him greatly.

I'm Dave.
I think you're right about feeling better, but sadly the damage done by the fags maybe doesn't go away. I read very recently about someone who reaching an advanced age started feeling breathless and went for a checkup.
Applarently the doc said "Were you a smoker" with a response that he smoked his last one 25 years previously, and "what made you think that?".
Then the doc showed him the pictures of his lungs. and pointed out the damage.
This could just be an internet story though - but there may be something in it - that the damage doesn't really go away.
Maybe check with ChatGPT or Grok to see if there is any strong evidence for that.
