Must disagree about 'all other Diamonds' as my partner Ruth's Diamond 10.1s are absolutely stonking speakers for their size.
I can't think of many 'classic' vintage speakers that have been bettered all-round, musically (this being the key word), by modern adoptations of their original design.

These Shackman Dynastatic 'stat hybrid standmounts look interesting - and I bet they'll go for a song.
The 1st ever 'stat speakers I had were Shackman Dynastats. Oooo, must have been 35 years ago! Big bass cabinet with a 10 inch (?) woofer (not unlike a Tannoy Lancaster cab, really) with a separate little box on top to house the stat mid/treble unit. The stat driver was curved and must have been about 4x6 inches or so.
They didn't sound half bad, actually, and were an interesting and affordable start to my on/off love affair with stats ever since.

Diamond Mk IV are from the 'eighties and IMHO are better than the Mk1 or any of the models after :ner:

I got a lot of pleasure from my Diamond IIs - they've also been out on stopgap duties on a couple of occasions too.

From what I remember they were voiced to be run with grilles on, and sounded quacky if you ran them sans grilles.

Well, Mike, it is undoubtedly a genuine bargain... I'd fit a Jelco SA-750 to it, as it would be an ideal aesthetic match as well as sound superb, and depending on budget, a DL-103 cartridge, or one of the better Nagaoka MMs. That would make a true giant-killing T/T! :)Quote:

Trust me, the Kenwood is quality (and looks in great nick, too)! Fit a decent arm and cartridge (as I outlined), and it would compete, sonically, with modern T/Ts up to about £2k - no joke! :)

Often the 2 track SEs fall beneath the radar with others fetching £500. Would have thought a 4-track would be worse quality (I have a 2-track SE from a phsychology debt, Luton Poly or somewhere).
Well I'm really enjoying the sound of this Yamaha cr1000 and the power.I gave it all a good clean and some switch cleaner on all the sliders and switches and now sounds wonderful.£80 well spent i think..
