Yeah well, the gradings were no fun. Nerves always got to me, so only did it twice. Got to "top orange" only, then tore a muscle in my shoulder and was never right after that.

Never did Judo or karate. Wasn't any places around here anyway tmk at that time. Did weights, running(ld) and swimming.
Played footy and rugby for a while too ..
Yeah you'd think, wouldn't you? But the north side of Preston, which has been Green Belt for decades, now has hundreds of houses and a couple of retail parks. And they've not finished yet. The roads round there cannot cope with the increased traffic, but do the council care? Money talks, and some dodgy b___rds down the council have been listening I reckon.
Fucking gypos, about 30 of them in cars and suvs driving down both lanes of road, beeping horns, what the fuck gives them the right?
send a typhoon down from lossie for some strafe practice;)
Good idea, and I bet the police would look the other way
A farmer I know in Preston once got a couple of dozen tinkers set up in one of his fields. So he dumped a few tons of cow shit and straw at the gate, blocking their access. They must have known that clearing it would just lead to the farmer re-blocking the entrance, so a day or two later enough was removed to allow them to get out, and they were gone, As far as I know they never returned.
fireworks are getting noisy now... i never did understand the love of bangs( the noise version lol)
We've had fireworks every night since mid October to a greater or lesser degree. Plenty going off at the moment.
Slept little last night so off to bed and hopefully a decent sleep
Can't remember last time I slept right through, but it's been years not months. I need to get a clock that glows in the dark - when I wake in the middle of the night and check what time it is with my phone, it wakes up and bleeps notifications at me. I could switch it off, but I need the alarm in the winter months.
Just stick phone in aeroplane mode at bedtime.
I could do that, but then I'd have to find something else to moan about.
Though I do like it when Mrs. P is in aeroplane mode:

went the supermarket, realised when I got to the till I had no money on me, fortunately had my card so had to pay on that.
Did not have any waffles or potato cakes in stock. Unbelievable as that was the two main things I wanted. Had to buy some weird Belgian waffles instead. You can't get proper waffles in this stupid country but the ones they usually sell are an acceptable compromise. The Belgian things are just too sweet.
They did open a new till for me though so no waiting, at least that was a positive.
I did not go from start of covid up until end of April this year. I hate it but if you time it right you can be in and out in ten minutes.
There's now about a billion students living in my area and another huge accommodation block opening right around the corner from me in a couple of months. Probably that's who's buying all the waffles and potato cakes.
When you say waffles, do you mean potato waffles, or the ones made from batter? I quite fancy getting a waffle iron (only about 20 quid) and making my own.
The ones made with batter. Not sure you can still get potato waffles?
Thought about a waffle iron but they are a bastard to clean up. Plus then you've got to find somewhere selling the batter, making my own is something I would likely do once and then lose interest.
I did that three weeks ago - except I realised I didn't have my wallet with me, so no cards! Explained my embarassing predicament but the supermarket (Sainsbury) were very good about it: they put my basket of shopping behind the counter, cancelled the till and let me return ten minutes later to pay.
Never happened to me before - must be becoming senile!
It is a piece of piss. I get pancake duties every year, can never remember how, so just make it up as I go along. Always works out ok. I accept waffle making will be messy, but cleaning up afterwards is also a piece of piss, she tells me :)
This is the one I was considering, £20 on the Amazon. But it turns out we already have an electric one  How am I supposed to know what we have in the kitchen

I'll resist the temptation to comment on Scottish banknotes. No I won't, I'll say this: One of my Scottish mates takes umbrage at shops down here that don't want Scottish notes ("I think you'll find they're legal tender!") Doesn't accept that English folks' not being familiar enough with them makes it easier to be fooled by forgeries.
When I was a youngster I used to like returning from me hols with Scottish notes, it made me feel like an international jet setter. Like bringing home a straw donkey from Benidorm. But these days it's just a pain.
Off up to Ayr on Friday for the weekend, and we'll be rid of any paper money before we return, spend it on white pudding and Lorne sausage :)
Legal tender has a narrow technical meaning which has no use in everyday life. Scottish bank notes are not legal tender anywhere actually in the narrow scope of the phrase, 'legal tender':eyebrows:
But I suppose they are 'legal' in that you're ok to use them in a purchase, provided that the seller is happy to sell. But that would apply with any currency.
well they are not illegal. as with any currency or form of purchase method, its up to the seller as to what he accepts. if he only takes cigarette cards then that is the shops' privellage.
legal tender only means that if you offer to fully pay off a debt to someone in legal tender, they can’t sue you for failing to repay.
What’s classed as legal tender varies throughout the UK. In England and Wales, it’s Royal Mint coins and Bank of England notes. In Scotland and Northern Ireland it’s only Royal Mint coins and not banknotes.
There are also some restrictions when using small coins. For example, 1p and 2p coins only count as legal tender for any amount up to 20p.
Many common and safe payment methods such as cheques, debit cards and contactless aren’t legal tender. But again, it makes no difference in everyday life. In reality tho all UK notes are fully accepted by your bank so you wont be stuck with them.
The DVLA recently reminded me I have reached the age where I have to renew my driving licence.
They sent me a rather complicated form which was not exactly clear how much of it should be filled - but also said I could do it on-line. Now I have had in the past poor experience in doing things on-line: you fill it all out, press 'submit', only to find out you have missed something, or it just goes back to the beginning; a bit like 'Groundhog Day'.
But having nothing to loose, I gave it a go. And to my great surprise my new photo driving licence arrived today, less than a week after application. And it didn't cost me anything (well apart from the cost of a stamp, as I have to return my old licence).
It probably helped that I was able to quote my passport number, so they had a photo and signature on file.
Excellent news Barry, mine will be soon.
I renewed mine last year and it was an almighty pain to sort, took four months!
i see 2 russian missiles overshot(?) and hit nato poland killing people.. that could cause issues. they badly need to wind their necks in.
It could have been a Ukrainian defence missile, or it could have not.........I had a feeling the proxy element of this war wasn't gonna go away that easily. Nato really should have listened to all those warnings 20, 30 years ago about expanding too close to Russia's borders.
This weeks supermarket news - waffles and potato cakes back in stock. Yay. Bought a load of them just in case.
Cock up at the checkouts, thought my timing was good but no, lots of fatties buying a ton of stuff and only 2 tills open. Worse still some cockney geezer in front decided he wanted more wine so went off to get it, then when he gets back wants to use a voucher that won't go through...if I'd picked the other till would have been out a few minutes quicker.
fifty-fifty chance but wrong choice again. Spent 35 quid don't think I've ever spent that much before on a shop in my life.
Never heard of a potato scone but could be another name for the same thing.
Diss is dem:

look similar.. potato scones are scottishirish triangles with a round top edge. thin and are fried lightly.

looks like the same thing.
My grandmother used to make them with the previous days leftover mashed potato.
Don't think the storebought are as good but might be my memory as going back almost fifty years now.
Fifty years ago, probably used lard. That might be the difference. Another case of something good being ruined in the name of healthy eating.
Did once share a house with a bloke who used lard to cook pretty much everything. He'd go through one of those big blocks in a week. He was about twenty stone and struggled to breath though, so there is a downside.
