I don't know if you noticed, as I did, that all 5 home teams in the English Prem LOST on Wednesday 3rd. February!
Does Home Advantage not count anymore? You know, cold dressing rooms for the away team. Cold showers. Boggy pitches. All the usual tricks.
Nice 1-0 result by Brighton at the Kop. Solid defense, making up for lack of goals. I always cheer on South Coast teams. Even Southampton.

never did but its looking like city are on course to retake title. liverpool look unlikely to get there this season and utd/leic are not quite good enough.

I was pleased with City's win at Anfield.
First win there since 2003 :)
Cracking game at Everton tonight.
Spurs down 4-5 at Goodison!
20 minutes to go in extra time in the 5th. Round.
Just have to wait and see.
"Come on you Spurs". Sorry, I am a Londoner. :)
Oh well. Spurs lost. But now can concentrate on the League. :D
Great Fascination in the English Second Division dogfight aka EFL today:

I think me Coventry Sky Blues at Cardiff has draw written all over it.
Good win today for rangers Robin. First half was apparently a non event but a decent secondhalf and never under cosh.
1-0 but its, more importantly 3 more points and a clean sheet.
Killy are often a problem team and with a new manager, a potential banana skin

I honestly don't know what the current interest in Scottish Prem Football might be?
Clearly Rangers are going to win it!
The real Footie supporters live in a more uncertain World.
Dismal defeat for teh' Coventry Sky Blues last night. 1-3 against the Cardiff Bluebirds. Oh Lor'. Another relegation dogfight.
We'll get through it.
Haven't posted here for a while lads, but good luck tonight against Antwerp. Always support Scottish teams in Europe, Rangers included, so I'll be rooting for ya!
Match prediction: Antwerp 1 Rangers 3.
Marco.
ah yes back to europa.. gers were playing better 2 times a week so maybe it will improve them a bit.:) no idea what will happen tbh, so no prediction.
they are a good side who beat spurs
I think their form has been superb, mate, and worthy of champions elect, especially their home record. Something like 40 goals scored at Ibrox, with only one conceded - that's a phenomenal record, so a wee dip in form is only natural and justified:)
I think Rangers style of play will be too much tonight for Antwerp, hence my prediction, and expect Rangers to get to at least the quarter finals of competition, as Gerrard has moulded them into a disciplined European-style side.
Marco.

Cheers Marco, hoping for a good result tonight, we’ve not been at our best the last couple of games but we are usually decent in Europe.
Yeah, but you've got Roofe and Morelos back tonight, so they'll make a difference.
Always good for Scottish teams to do well in Europe, simply for the impact on the co-efficient. It's largely because of the efforts of your team in such competitions (and ours also to an extent) , in recent times, than we'll have a CL qualification spot for next season, despite not winning the league:)

yeah, doubt both will start tho. alf probably will. roofe is one yellow from a ban; so is barisic. would think kent hagi and alf up front. roofe, itten and wright on bench as cover.
Well I knew there'd be goals, but I didn't think THAT many!
Thought Rangers would win, though. What a game... Best I've seen in a long time. Well done, Rangers!!

Not sure about a great game but certainly crazy, bottom line its a win.
For a (semi-neutral) like me, it was a great game. Seven goal thriller!!
The ref had a shocker, though. Their penalty just before half time should never have been, which I think set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Losing Tav to a serious injury may be a big blow?

Agree the Ref was shocking, he was booking people all over the place , apart for the worst tackle of the game on Tav. The guy Davis tackled was very clear but there was Var.
Missed it all. Seems we picked up 2 injuries. Tav was if course deffo going to happen now Patterson did what he did. It was written alas.
Interesting start re Ronaldo.

after a lackadaisical start, rangers ran out 4-1 winners v dundee utd. now 10 points short of winning league with 8 games left. still a lot of work to do yet.

Yeah, united had a couple of early chances but having a decent goalie helps, even if he’s getting on a bit , and yes 10 is the number

yeah, mcgreggor has been immense.. think he intends going out as a winner this year. currently he is as good as it gets, goalkeeper wise imo.
alas after losing roofe, again and tav, looks like jack is injured again too . balogan took a hefty knock as well.
im thinking the last 10 points will be the hardest

I think the goalie will retire if we win the league, as you say we are picking up a few injuries just but I’m sure we will manage another 10 points.

just saw that. guess he didnt fancy rangers winning it at parkhead. or worse, before that. he might have had to give that guard of honour he promised;)
as a rangers man can i say, no thanks.:D
anyway its kennedy til end of season. sure he was rodgers right hand man too... a big rebuild at end of season for celtic.
liverpool's annus horribilis continues with jordan henderson now out as well.. who would be a defender at anfield:rolleyes: bit of a shame really as we never got a real defence of title...not that city will be complaining.

for a while utd were flying high; knew it wouldnt last long tho:D yeah, city are the best side. Not really sure why klopp has had such a hard time from fans.. not many if any sides could handle their defensive injuries.
Also see rangers have agreed to sign Francis Jacobs from Orange County. He was the youngest Pro in US history at 14. Currenty just 15 still and will sign on or after his upcoming birthday.
Lad is 6' already and I have to say doesnt look 15.

Yeah, been a difficult season for them, playing midfielders in central defense, should have splashed out in January for a decent center back.

Yup, had to happen. The Ross County result was the final straw, after the recent 5-game winning run was simply papering over the cracks. I always said he'd go at the end of the season, and not before, *if* the remaining results of the team in his charge warranted it (even if Celtic didn't win the title), which of course hasn't been the case, and the team's capitulated, so he had to go, for the sake of team morale more than anything else.
When, as they say, you've 'lost the dressing room', which clearly was the case with Lennon, no matter who he is, the manager has to go.
As I said before, it's the end of an era, as no team or manager has a divine right to win everything for years on end, as Celtic have been doing for nearly 10 years, culminating in a remarkable [and doubtful ever to be equalled] quadruple treble, which Lennon played a significant part in securing. Therefore, regardless of a disastrous last season (for some reasons outwith of his control), he will rightly go down as one of the Celtic greats, as both a player and manager.
The writing was on the wall for me, in terms of Celtic's title chances this season, when we lost the second old-firm game, therefore I said so at the time that it would be Rangers' year, which has proven to be the case. And well done to them, as their magnificent form this season, particularly at home, has been the stuff worthy of champions. Again, as I've always said, these things come in cycles, which was the same when Walter Smith's era came to an end, and Celtic stopped Rangers from reaching the holy grail of 10-in-a-row, so it seems written in the stars that neither team is destined to achieve it.
For me, providing Rangers can remain as strong as they are now, and continue to grow, as Celtic will certainly be pulling out all the stops to increase their challenge and usurp Rangers next season, and can hold onto Gerrard [whom I always knew would be successful at Rangers], or when the time comes replace him with someone of a similar ilk, then I think the days of either team dominating for years on end are over. which let's face it is a GOOD thing for Scottish football. One-horse races are never attractive for neutrals or large investors, so I predict that it'll be nip and tuck, between both teams, in terms of the sharing of trophies for the foreseeable future.
Anyway, once again congratulations to Rangers for a historic title win in the making, The last two league meetings between the sides will be very interesting, as will the Scottish Cup competition, if it goes ahead - and most of all what will be interesting is how Celtic will react to no longer being champions, and who they bring in as their new manager. When Brendan Rogers left, Neil Lennon was the perfect man for the job, simply to secure 9-in-a-row, and subsequently the QT, which he achieved and has to be given great credit for, but *this* time, ONLY a big name 'Hollywood appointment' will do...
In that respect, Dermot Desmond will need to raid his piggy bank and deliver another Martin O'Neill or Brendan Rogers!
Marco.
yeah of course its no won til its won, and quite a few think its already done and dusted. it isnt. yes im pretty sure it will be but i dont like the idea the team think they have done enough.
I think Kennedy will get a bit more out of the side, but as you say he is not the man for job. Many think Steve Clarke is taking it after the Scotland games. Personally I dont think so and agree with you; They need a name. They have to excite the fans and the players.
Not sure the SC will get played at all. Unless they run it as a mini tourney, a bit like the Euro tourneys last season.
i see lampard is being touted for job...predictable of press i guess.

I agree, and would be saying the same if it were Celtic, but Rangers are undoubtedly champions elect, so enjoy it when it comes - and don't be afraid to post a few pics of Tav lifting the trophy, as I haven't exactly been 'shy' in doing similar with Celtic's many recent trophy wins!:D So fair's fair:eyebrows:

I agree about Kennedy, but he wouldn't be the answer in the long term.
This time it *must* be a big name. Someone of the ilk of Rafa (although I don't think it will be him), with the appropriate CV and ability to attract top players (perhaps even some at the ends of their careers who fancy a crack at playing for a club like Celtic). I'll do some research and come up with some names I think would fit the bill, but SC isn't one, mainly because his focus will rightly be on Scotland.
I think it would take a top team in the EPL to attract him back into club football, and thrust himself into the daily limelight again, which isn't something he relishes or is comfortable with, especially with the 'unsavoury attention' you get in the west of Scotland, from both fans and the media, being either a Celtic or Rangers manager:rolleyes:

Yup, you may be right, but we'll see. It would be good for it to go ahead in some form, especially in terms of generating income for the smaller teams in these difficult times.
Marco.

steve clarke didnt distance himself so is probably the new man:D funny as not that long ago he said he wouldnt take any old firm job when gers were interested:ner:
Lol - why have you heard something?:)
For me, as good a coach/manager as SC is, he's not the right man for the job at this moment, nor a big enough name to satisfy the Celtic fans just about to shell out on season tickets.
As I've said, it *needs* to be a BIG name/Hollywood appointment - and if they get it, the fans will buy into it big time and hoover up those season tickets. If not, and Celtic can't afford for it to be if not, the disgruntled amongst the Celtic support [and currently there are plenty] will shun them. Therefore, for that reason, as much as any other, the new Celtic manager MUST be 'BOX OFFICE'.
So.... Having thought about it for the last few days. Here are my top five choices (in order of preference):
1) Roberto Martinez (with Shaun Maloney as assistant) - 'The dream team', if they can prize them away from the Belgium job, and I think it's possible.
2) David Moyes.
3) Michael O'Neill.
4) Rafa Benitez.
5) Frank Lampard.
Your thoughts? Apparently, Martinez is champing at the bit to get back into club management, and a deal could be done. Plus of course, Maloney's a Celtic man and a very intelligent young coach. For me, that 'dream team' would be the dream appointment. I also wouldn't be too disappointed if Roy Keane got a shot at it this time, after losing out before to Brendan Rogers.
However, if not, I'd be more than happy with any of the others listed.
Btw, good luck against Antwerp (just about to watch the game). I think it'll be tight, but you'll get through!
Marco.
5-2 tonight for Rangers, and another SUPERB game of football! The two legs against Antwerp have undoubtedly produced the best football I've seen in a LONG time - goals galore, thrills and spills, and *exactly* what football should be all about!!
And what a magnificent advert for Scottish football... WELL DONE, Rangers!:clap:
What I'll be praying for now in tomorrow's draw for the last 16, is a tie against Man Utd or Spurs... And another epic BATTLE of BRITAIN. Fukkin bring it on, so the Scots can PUMP the Englanders!!:more::more:

Marco. Not sure martinez will come up his stock is high so could get a bigger league. Would likely be a great appointment tho. Similar re Benitez.
Not sure M O N is a Hollywood signing. Lamps would come but experience and his being a blue nose might not make that work. Think Celtic need a experienced youngish man. Donnelly or Duff with Keane maybe. Dont See Moyes taking it eiher. think he got refused before, and he is sitting in 4th in the epl with w ham. Slaven Bilic maybe... Larsson? Dan Petrescu might be a good shout too...oh and the guy Jesse Dersch too..
As to game, I slept right through again. I'm lucky for team when I do that.
Great result and played well at times I'm told.
Probably get a big name next but in last 16 they are all good teams.
Yeah, some good thoughts there... Michael O'Neill isn't 'Hollywood', but just someone I think would do a really good job at Celtic. Just a gut feeling:)
We'll see in terms of the rest. Didn't know Lampard was a blue nose. Is that a fact or just something you're heard? Anyway, if he was successful that wouldn't bother me. Didn't hold back Jock Stein;)
Bilic is a good shout, as is the Keane/Duff/Donnelly one. Larsson? Not yet, as he doesn't have the proven track record as a manager, and the last thing he or anyone else at Celtic would want, would be to taint his 'God-like' status by becoming manager and potentially ending up as a dud. That's one for the future, *if* he proves himself at the highest level as a manager somewhere else first.
The Martinez/Maloney partnership would still be my preferred one. It wouldn't be a money thing, (doesn't need it) and he's already 'done' the EPL, so might fancy a crack at something different with an iconic club like Celtic, and doubtless Maloney would sell it to him. Rangers being good now, and with someone like Gerrard at the helm, will actually help attract some top managers to Celtic, as they'd relish the challenge, which might not have been the case before when we were so dominant.
And especially, as looks likely, with fans coming back for next season (to an eventually packed stadium), the attraction is there, as long as decent money was promised in the transfer market. Anyway, it's all exciting stuff and will certainly raise the profile of the SPL!
Bet you'd love Gers to draw Man Utd, for the round of 16... What a mouth-watering tie that would be, unfortunately though with no fans. For me, the 'Battles of Britain'/Scotland vs. England' clashes, like that, are always the most interesting, and usually also the most exciting, as the recent 3-3 draw between Celtic and Man City proved to be!
I always relish the chance to get it RIGHT UP the Englanders who slag off the SPL and don't give the old firm teams the respect/status they deserve!!
Marco.

i'd take one of the weaker sides in this round, not that there are many. Molde or Olympiacos maybe.. Spurs too may be a better bet with their defence. I think 16 will be our limit; last 8 if we get a good draw and play as we can.
Ive heard McCarthy to be in running along with Clarke tbh, but i kinda hope its a bigger name, profile wise for league. Much will depend on how much Celtic will spend on players i think.. Im guessing the big striker is for the off, but there are a lot of players likely needed and they cant all be 5/7 mil ones. The DoF also needs to come in and have a say, this is why it really should have been done and dusted long ago. As you say a exciting nam,e to get the ticket money in; like Gerard, but with more experience.

I understand why you'd say that, but if it were me, given as you say you're only likely to get through another round [but who knows?], I'd want a big name, with the potential of beating them, then *really* having a good chance of further progress, as well as the kudos of taking down 'a Man Utd'

I agree with all of that, but I don't think McCarthy or Clarke would excite the Celtic fans - and right NOW, they NEED excited!! Especially if Celtic want to rake in a potential £30m in season ticket sales - every penny of which will be needed to spend on new players!
For Celtic, this is a pivotal moment, where all the stops need pulled out, in order to halt any potential period of Rangers dominance. And for that, the RIGHT man (calibre) of manager must be appointed, so in that respect I'm looking for Dermot Desmond to deliver, as he did with Martin O'Neill and Brendan Rodgers, when it was necessary to pull out the big guns - and that's what I'd expect (and hope) he will do this time.
So what's the deal with Lampard being a blue nose (unless you mean the blue of Chelsea?) State your case:)
Marco.

plenty others too, not just rangers news.

Fair enough, I didn't know that. Wouldn't bother me one iota though, as I'm not the 'bitter' type. If anything, it would probably encourage him more to beat them (often the case with these things, witness Alex Ferguson loving doing so to Rangers, as Aberdeen manager), as first and foremost [in terms of mentality] Lampard's a winner.
A 'Lampard vs. Gerrard' old-firm battle would be mouth-watering, and generate MAJOR interest from down south in particular!!:)
Marco.

yeah i agree but majority of celtic fans wouldnt have him me thinks. first time anything controversial happened it would be "hun lover"(clean version);) you know what many fans are. Also i dont think he has the experience Celtic want (need) at moment. Would im sure please Sky sports tho. Eddie Howe is another maybe of the top table men who may just go...
I don't really know much about the bloke, although folks rave about him - what's he done/won that's so special?
I know what you mean, re: Lampard, about sections of the Celtic support, and that would put extra pressure on him to be successful, so I get that, but all it would take would be to beat Rangers a few times, to erode the notion of being a 'hun lover'.
In any case, I don't think he'll end up being the guy to replace Lennon.
Marco.
wone promotion for bournemouth and kept them up for a few years. left this year when they go relegated. He was rated highly so must be waiting on right job. One issue may be he likes living on south coast
Well we drew Slavia Prague. away first leg by looks of it. could be worse i guess. they put out leic city so must be pretty good

Yeah, I heard that, but rightly or wrongly that doesn't really excite me (success with a diddy team), in comparison with the likes of Martinez or Rafa. Might be great, though. But does his style of football fit with the Celtic philosophy (exciting and attack-minded)? Different ball game (literally) between fighting relegation battles and regularly winning trophies.
Slavia Prague? Interesting... They pumped us, when we were pish, but you should have the tools to beat them. Dangerous side on the counter attack, so watch out for that:)

was it not sparta that beat you?

That’s not the worst draw for us although they did beat Leicester fairly easily last night.
As for the Celtic job, wont be Moyes, he’s going nowhere, extremely unlikely to be Lampard, or Steve Clarke as he has stated he doesn’t want involved in all that nonsense that surrounds the Old Firm.
THe Celtic board have history of thinking outside the box, so it might be another foreign manager.
when clarke was asked yesterday he said he was seeing out the scotland games then see what he is doing. so he hasnt said no

Yeah, soz, got mixed up between them. Is there much difference in standard between the two?:)
Marco.

Sure, but Celtic would want their new manager in place well before then, if by the above you're talking about the Euros? The team needs rebuilt and up to speed, with the new guy in place, having sorted all that out, for the start of next season!

yeah i would have thought so.. in fact i would have wanted him in before now.. needs to see what he aready has and needs. that takes time. but they havent even got a dof in yet and he is supposed to be partly to decide on pick for a manager. they just seem to be dragging things out as if next season is already written off.. i find it odd for celtic.
Fairy muff... I think you'll pump them. Won't be easy, but you've got enough in your locker, particularly at home, to get the job done. Won't be many teams left in the competition who'll relish coming to 'fortress Ibrox'!;)

Would Celtic take the risk and go for someone with track record as a manager and give him the time and money to rebuild, or try for a big name , most of whom are unlikely to come to Glasgow. The Preston manager might be a good shout, well thought of, but not won anything yet.

Exactly... The only 'downside' for any top manager [not mostly motivated by money], looking at the Celtic job, is the overall standard of the SPL, but there's always the guarantee of Champions League football (if we can maintain the current two spots), and if not, either one of the old firm teams will have it, and now with a proper challenge from Rangers, the attraction of the SPL is greater than before.
However, your last point, in terms of seeing it as a 'stepping stone' to potentially greater things, is key, and why someone such as Lampard or Howe could be tempted, as well as others. As I've said though, for this *specific appointment*, a big name is needed, and indeed will be demanded by the Celtic season ticket holders.
Also, the rebuilding job isn't a big as some make out. Defensively yes (although big Jullien will feature when he returns from injury), but the midfield is fine and upfront, once Edouard goes for BIG bucks, and some of the duds are sold, the money will be successfully reinvested, as Celtic have a long and established history of *always* having at least one great striker. Plus, I still feel Griffo has a role to play, as he's simply a born goalscorer and certainly not past it at the top level, so the arrival of a new manager (if he fancies him) may just be the thing to reignite his Celtic career.
Anyway, I'm perfectly relaxed about it all, as I could see all this coming, and am looking forward to the new changes and challenges ahead!

I’m also looking forward to it, however comes , personally i would have been happy for the Neil boy to remain for another couple of years.
Indeed... We need to return to the days of 'Helicopter Sundays', when the title goes right down to the wire - *that* is when victory feels the sweetest and you really feel that you've won something!:)
Therefore, both teams need to always have a top manager at the helm, as well as the best players in the team.

The Ref was really poor, was a penalty all day long. THe Liv players need to learn that if you want a Rangers shirt you have to wait until the game finishes, they spent most of the game trying to rip the shirts of the backs of the Rangers players, lost count of the number of yellow cards.

Possibly.. I think Celtic will drop points at Tannadice, but don't think they'll lose.
Good news, btw, that the Scottish Cup is likely to go ahead, eh? A chance then for the double for you guys, or us to redeem the season!:)
Marco.

unlikely but maybe celtic dont fancy us winning it at parkhead??
Personally, I don't give a toss. The inevitable is going to happen, so however it happens, or when it happens, for me is of no real consequence.
As I've said, well done to Rangers when it happens, and the title is theirs; you'll be well entitled to celebrate and savour the moment!:)

i would play the young players for first few games at least so as to keep the bubble intact. typically the sfa will attempt to stop that
a quick one, two from gers and they are 2 up after 16 mins. win this and celtic could only win on goal difference. assuming we lost out last 7 games, which is unlikely.

more fans out and about alas. still its not unexpected. liverpool did it last year as di celtic when they got it. still, i'd have preferred them not to have.
sure the old rivalry will restart next season. I am still a bit surprised overall as I never expected to see another Gers title win in my lifetime. Just shows what can happen. And if we are not on our toes next season I expect Celtic to do to us what weve done to them.

Kind of glad that we didn't win today at Tannadice (indeed as I predicted), not because I'd have been worried about Rangers winning the title at Parkhead, but because it showed that Kennedy isn't the answer, and TBH, the best thing to put the final nails in that particular coffin would be for Rangers to pump us at Celtic Park, which I predict they will, as then it will force the powers that be to get their cheapskate hands in their fucking pockets and shell out for a big-name new manager, and not go for the cheap (and WRONG) option instead!!
:exactly:
Marco.
yeah i dont think kennedy is answer, even if lawwell and co would like it so. celtic need gutted top to bottom i think. might take a year or so but they will be a lot stronger for it. trouble is with the pandemic it has cost all clubs a fortune so rebuilding all at once might be difficult

Ignoring the behavior of the Celtic fans and the St Johnstone for a moment, there is an election in Scotland in 6 or 7 weeks. All those politicians will not be wanting to throw away potential votes.

There were scenes in Perth after St Johnstone won the League cup and of course all the sciences outside Parkhead protesting aborting the manager and the board.
The scenes in Glasgow at the weekend were very predictable, why they were allowed to go from Ibrox to George square is a mystery
Yeah, as I said, two (or more) wrongs don't make a right... Celebrate a very well deserved victory, by all means, but do it in private or with those you're allowed to be with, otherwise keep your butts parked at home!!

Marco, I’m not defending the actions of the Rangers fans, what I’m referring to is the the breaking of the Lockdown rules. All these events could have been foreseen and managed better. Banning the old firm game is a huge risk for the Scottish gov. We have an election coming up and i would be surprised if they risked banning the game.
A bunch of wee kids for most part, and it was predicted. Cops took no avoiding actions alas. Street furnature etc should have been removed etc. It worries politicians as it shows that if the public do things like this there is little that will stop it.
It has happened before with Liverpool which was on 2 separate nights.
Re ently a smaller group outside parkhead attacking buses etc.
It's depressing but it was foreseen and little was done.

He is well thought had done well before this year with Sheffield Utd., back to back promotions and good first season in the premiership, all gone this season. Eddie Howe is really well thought of as well , as i follow Bournemouth have watched him for years, would be interesting to see how he would do with bigger budget and team.
Gers out, losing 2-0 at home and 2 players off t'boot. First a high boot and other for 2 yellows.

Yes beaten by the better team, a very hard lesson, both sending offs were justified. Unfortunately the game will now be remembered for the racist incident
Indeed, I watched the game last night and was disappointed Rangers didn't make it through. I hope that racist fuck is banned from football for life!! ZERO tolerance needs shown towards that shite, and which shouldn't exist in the 21st century:rolleyes:
Aside from that, yes over the two legs, Rangers were beaten by the better team, and I'd have to say a VERY good one, which I think is capable of at least reaching the semis.
However, well done to Rangers for this season being such a credit and superb ambassador for Scottish football in Europe:clap:

I hope you're right lol, but I disagree. I think Rangers will want to finish the season as 'invincibles' in the league, to rub our noses in it and partly emulate what we did under Brendan Rogers, plus also to rubber stamp their current superiority, so will be WELL up for the game:)
More importantly, at the moment we're pish and simply not good enough to win... So I can't see us getting any better than a draw. It'll be interesting how it pans out, though. Part of me wants us to win (for obvious reasons) and part of me wants us to get gubbed, simply to remove Kennedy from the list of potential new managers, as even if we win on Sunday, he's not the long term answer.
Marco.
not sure how gers frame of mind will be.. that guy runs over to kamara, covers his mouth so cameras cant read lips etc and says something that kamara starts shouting racist at him. now kamara is a quite lad... zungu heard it.

Strong rumors of Keane and Nicky Butt.
Looking more like Eddie Howe for celtic job now. Did a decent job with Bournemouth although his win rate is not great. Under 40% he is young tho, and has managed in Premier league to his credit. I hope he comes up. I think he will be better than Keane.
Also I see the rangers 5 were given 6 game bans,.. 2 suspended. I've heard claims of inconsistency and I agree. Aberdeen 8 got 2 games suspended and celtic guy got 3. Other 2 gers guys got 7.
So who is making up the bans? If anything the celtic guy was the worst offender as he actually played.

Anyway they imo deserved band and got them.
Scottish Cup up next. We have cove rangers. Type of game that is always a potential banana skin.

Now that I've analysed matters, I tend to agree, although part of me would still like to see what kind of a job Keane would do, and most importantly, what kind of players a world renowned name like him could attract to Celtic.
However, my gut says that Howe would in time prove to be more successful, even though a few weeks ago I'd never heard of him, as outside of the top teams in the EPL, I don't really follow English football.
Scottish Cup up next. We have cove rangers. Type of game that is always a potential banana skin.
Yeah, a 4-0 to the Gers banana skin, lol, while we beat Falkirk 3-0 (going on 7-0, if we'd taken all our best chances).
So next, it's you lot again in the last 16!:D
Now THIS one WILL be very interesting indeed...

looks like mckay is now coming in early as ceo from scottish rugby. some have said he is not a football guy, but not sure in that job he has to be.
Eddie Howe should do a good job, as long as the pressure doesnt get to him too early. Much will be down to whoever comes in as director of football i think and how quickly and how well they start getting the right players in. Maybe keeping a few on the staff too with his appointment, or at least getting good value. Celtic traditionally gett better cash for players than we do.
Scottish cup will no doubt be down to who wants it most and who plays best too. Howe may come in early too. it would be odd if he doesnt unless its a financial thing re his last payoff

As I used live in Bournemouth I have always followed their us and downs, Eddie Howe was very much the next big thing but struggled bit in his last year in charge.
I think he will do well at Celtic although hopefully not too well, similar to Brendan Rogers in style of play.
Will be interesting to see his support staff, doubt he will be in before the end of the season though.

Yups... It was mostly what you thought of the cup tie. Howe in or not, I think it'll be quite a different game from the recent league encounter. This time both teams will be better, and both will want it.
Last time, I think Rangers were tired from their exertions in Europe, so not at their best, and Celtic saw it as a bit of a 'nothing game', but this one will be different. I still don't think Kennedy is the long-term answer, but he's made us much more solid defensively and also has the team playing at a higher tempo.
I know it was only Falkirk, but some of our passing movements, high pressing and general all-round play was breathtaking. We just need to get a bit more cutting edge up front, when our strikers (Edouard aside) get more match fit. We really need to play with two up front to achieve that quickly. The return of Forrest is also a big boost, as he's been badly missed, and gives us more penetration up front.
And you guys also still seem to be firing on all cylinders, so it'll be very interesting!

Yup, that's what I'd heard, Robin. Time will tell though, if indeed he is the man. I'm glad to see back of Hammond, though, as he was responsible for us signing some rather expensive duds, which IMO was a major reason why we lost the title. Your team's recruitment was a zillion times better!
So what's your view of the cup tie? Shame the two teams are meeting so early or not?:)

Yes, a pity the teams are meeting so early , at the moment we are probably favorites, but that means nothing in old firm games.
think celtic will be my favs, as their cup record is much better. home advantage doesnt help much without fans etc. also they will want to show something to fans and new manager etc.
Interesting result today for us against Livi, but one based on current performances I could see coming... I'd expect your lot to cuff Hibs tomorrow, and set up an intriguing battle in the Scottish Cup, whenever that game's played, due to some 99-year old bloke, living in a palace, having the temerity to pop his clogs....

Good win yesterday for Celtic, will start thinking about that game after the Hibs match
relatively poor overall performance with a few good spells.. 2-1 it finished and the points more important on day. still fancy celtic for the next meeting, but of course its difficult to predict.
at times rangers are very good, but in others they are struggling a bit too. just glad the league has been put to bed early

Not a great display today, looked weak down the left side hopefully will be better for next week. Great goal by Kent though.

well 2 up at half time.. celtic pressing for a goal. been a case of missed chances thankfully as far as i can see from reports

seems 6 of englands top siders are stating intention to start a euro super league with sides on the continent. seems to me an attempt at brinkmanship, but who knows. uefa will have to be careful on their next moves tho; talk of banning players from representing their countries could be met with lawsuits i think..as would the epl kicking the teams out as well.
sides are the 2 manchester giants, liverpool and the london trio of chelsea, arsenal and spurs

Interesting move and the timing is interesting with the extended Champions League format also announced today, real big money maker for those involved
Stratmangler
20-04-2021, 17:59
The proposed Champions League format change means the current initial 6 game qualification round for the knockout stages becomes a 10 game league with 5 home and 5 away games.
That's 4 more games than the current format.
If you finish in the top 8 you automatically qualify for the knockout stage.
So if you're a heavyweight team you only have to play 4 more games than the current format.
Never mind the poor fuckers who finish in places 9 to 24, coz you enter a dual legged fixture system to eventually qualify for the knockouts.
You couldn't dream this shit up without some serious chemical amusement aids.
UEFA don't give a flying fuck for the welfare of any of the participating players, just wringing every last fucking drop of milk from the (cash) cow

We had more than enough chances to win the game in normal time, several players well off the mark on the night. As far the league is concerned the best team won, end of story.

As far as we are concerned, I think we have really missed Ryan Jack in recent weeks. I think there will be a few leaving possibly including Ryan Kent and we need more fire power up front and someone to replace Davo.
As for the other lot, big changes I think , will depend on who the new boss is.

yup our 2 main mids are, 1 is becoming too old, and 2nd is injury prone. the guy on loan isnt up to it so will go back.. lunstrum may be an option, i dont know, but feel we need 2.

Lol - come on, I'm not buying that you don't care... You *should* care, mate, as it was your first chance of a double in how long...?
When Celtic were winning title upon title, cup after cup, and sweeping aside all before them, I was wanting them to win everything, and would've been seriously pissed off if they had failed to win a cup.
So why the apathy?:hmm:
yes, they have played poorly in cups etc, but won league where it mattered. did well in europe, when it mattered. slavia bar their disgraceful racial attitude, were a better side on both meetings tbh.
Undoubtedly they won the league in a canter, and deservedly so. I also think they were a credit to Scottish football in Europe, so I'm not having anyone take that away from them, especially giving any credit whatsoever to the RACIST SCUM of Slavia!:guns:
They should've had their asses banned from the competition, and that fuckhead racist, whoever he was, sacked and kicked out the club. That's what I would've done.
Marco.

Indeed, but Rangers' dismal performances in domestic cup competitions, since Gerrard has arrived (and mostly before) must be very disappointing and a cause for concern.
Yes, the best team won the league, it would be futile to argue otherwise, but if this is a really good Rangers team, then quite frankly, it's not a patch on the swashbuckling Celtic side of BR's invincible season, so lots of work still to do, IMO, before you get to that level and before real comparisons can be made between both - and if I were a Rangers fan I'd be concerned about the team's form in the cups and very disappointed that this season wasn't a whole lot more successful than it was!
Callum Davidson for manager of the year? Defo, if he can win the double for St Johnstone... For me, in terms of remarkable achievements, that would arguably eclipse Celtic doing the quadruple treble!! :exactly:
Marco.
you heard anything re management yet marco? do you have a realistic preference?
Nope, not hear anything, mate. As usual in these matters, Celtic fanny about like champion fanny-abouters!
However, I do get the feeling that it'll be Howe, and that that news will be announced soon. I was hoping that the 'special one' might've been tempted, but sadly not!:D

you know im not overly up for it nowadays. winning the league was good, and something most folk wanted bar celtic men/women of course.:) one side grabbing the honours or even 2 every year is no fun, and its not interesting. i'd much rather more side won stuff/competed etc.
think gers have struggled for last few months, and injuries etc plus the large lead conspired to much of it.
we need to up both our game and our squad to compete next season on all levels.
we do have a few young lads who i think will be attached to squad too. young kelly for one.

You’re correct about the delays, Eddie Howe will want to bring his own team but Celtic might be looking to keep Kennedy and Strachan about. THere is absolutely no chance of the special one coming to Celtic.

I'd agree about Jack and also the striker situation, which looks a little lightweight. I'm not sure about Itten or Roofe, as I don't see either getting 20 goals in a season, a la Morelos, who may well be off in the summer, and Defoe is getting past it now, probably due to land a coaching role at the club.
However, it's the same for us, as Edouard will almost certainly be off. Klimala's already gone, as will Ajeti, sooner rather than later, and will Griffiths still be there next season? I still think he's got something to offer, as on form he's the best penalty box striker in the league.
However, in terms of this season, If I were a Rangers fan I'd be bitterly disappointed at how it's all petered out after tying up the title.
Rangers should've at least had a double this season, and Gerrard's lack of cup success (since he's arrived at Ibrox) for me puts both question marks on his managerial ability, and crucially dilutes the team's success this season in the league. The Scottish cup loss has tainted and undoubtedly taken some of the shine off of their title win.
I've been listening to some of the phone-ins and Rangers fans going on about it having been a tough season, with playing over 50 games, claiming 'mental tiredness', yada, yada.... Well, Celtic won *12 trophies* on the trot, including the cup knockout competitions, which Rangers have struggled in, so just think how 'mentally tiring' THAT was!!
Therefore, I'd say to the Rangers fans, if you want to talk about mental tiredness, come back to me when you've won 12 trophies in a row (not just one out of a possible nine since Gerrard's arrival), and with it a quadruple treble, within which Celtic also achieved a 64-game unbeaten run, and we'll talk about mental tiredness...;)
Whilst trying to be as unbiased as possible, and ably admitting that Rangers won the league this year at a canter, if we're talking benchmarks, then they've still got a LONG way to go before emulating what Celtic achieved as true 'invincibles', and the mental toughness, skill, and remarkable levels of consistency it took to win those 12 trophies in a row.
This is a good Rangers team, but it's got much work to do before becoming a great one.

There will be quite a few changes this summer to both teams if anyone thinks Rangers are currently a great team they are deluded.

Gers have been poor in cups for many years and its become a mental issue now. until or if the hoodoo is broken ... still, the game plan was league and it was achieved. Winning it again next year will be a big big plus; but who knows
yes they are very much a work in progress still. i expect about 5 new first team players, plus a couple of others. maybe more depending on outgoings.. mid may need most looking at.

now its their turn to play catchup; and im sure they will. the game up here is alive and kicking. Rangers season tickets are only out 10 days and we have sold 20,000 already
Yeah the season tickets are selling well, Gerrard was given time which is a bit unusual these days.

Will next celtic manager get 3 years? I doubt it.

I think you’re right, although SG will need to win more than one trophy next season or it wont be classed as an improvement.
Yeah but next season is all about winning league. That is all that will count as winner goes into cl.

That was a hell of a birthday party yesterday! :)
Fernandinho turned 36, and City beat PSG 2-0 (4-1 aggregate).
Istanbul here we come.

yup a good win and into final... hope you win it
Yeah, best of luck, Chris. Well overdue for City to win the CL, which would cap a wonderful season for you.
Who do you fancy in the final - Madrid or Chelsea?:)

I don't really have a favourite pick.
Both teams have strengths and weaknesses, and can be beaten, as can City.
We'll see who it will be soon enough :)
Just thought you might fancy Madrid, as it would feel less like an EPL game, although you may consider that Chelsea would be easier to beat, perhaps simply out of familiarity?
What's your record been like against them in the league this year?:)

We beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, while Frank was still managing them.
They beat us 1-0 in the FA Cup semifinal the other week.
Could go any way then. From a neutral's perspective, I'd like to see a City vs. Madrid final:)

Tuchel was there last year with PSG, so the hunger is great with him.
Should be a good game tonight :)
I could see it coming, but it was fingers crossed tonight! :)
Chelsea have booked an FA Cup Final against Leicester, and a Champion's League against Manchester City!
But why do they have to go to Istanbul?
Absolutely on Fire! Could have beaten Manchester City 3-0 two weeks ago in the FA Cup.
No prizes for guessing our top team here... :D

But why do they have to go to Istanbul?
For the same reason the Man Utd and Chelsea had to trek over to Moscow.
Wembley is lined up for another CL final in few years ....
Congrats on winning the EPL, Chris:cool: Let's hope you can do the double, by adding the CL - I'll be rooting for ya!

Another win tonight, decent performance on a shite pitch, that should be ripped up and binned.
Ha - I forgot there were [largely meaningless] games on tonight, as I'd mentally boxed off this season. I see Celtic won 4-0 against 'high-flying' St Johnstone.
Woopy-doo!:D

a covid hit saint's ;) lol no its good results for both, and it looks like hamilton accies will now go down. shame as i always liked them, and their current manager too..
Gers now on 99 points(having never reached 100) and now have the shut out record with 25 in a season.
Sure everyone will be glad to get the fans back...
Also hear that Howe has agreed the Celtic job.
Indeed... I couldn't give a flying fuck about the remainder of the season. Diddy teams fighting for survival, or whatever, is of no interest to me, although I'd quite like to see St Johnstone win the SC, and with it, one more trophy than you lot got!:ner::lol:;)
But for me it's all about next season now, and the players our new manager brings in to attempt to wrestle back the title!:)

Remaining unbeaten would be nice and that would bring up the 100 points, and the only trophy that counts will be presented what ever happens.
Lol - come off it, the cups count, too! You'll discover that one day if you get to win another double or treble, lol...:ner:;)

Quite happy with 55 league wins until next season , when we start all over again, league and Europe are the main targets cups are just a bonus.
rangers had really only 2 objectives. win league and have a run in europe.. first was to show we could and stop celtic; second was for money, which was even more important than usual as finances were curtailed due to pandemic.
They won the league in spectacular fashion and had a much better run in Europe than could be hoped.
Cups are icing on any cake, or runners up prizes if you have no cake to ice. IE, nice to win but not overly important unless your getting a treble.
There has been a shift of power on field, and off field too so its, im sure, Celtics' aim to alter that this year or the next, depending on how fast they can turn it around. If nothing else, the changes in the game here have helped put Scottish footy on the map again, whereas it was just a 'one horse dorp' before

Yes I agree, the targets are the same for us, *BUT* trebles are lovely to win too (as you know yourself), and you need the two cups to achieve that - that's the point I'm making!:)
Here's the thing... Which would you take, if offered it at the beginning of next season: a league title and getting through to the last 16 of the CL, but no cup wins, or a domestic treble and 'only' qualifying for the CL group stages?
I know what I'd choose!;)

I agree with all of that (especially it no longer being just a one-horse race is a good thing), but with respect I disagree with the bit in bold.
Don't get me wrong, Rangers were worthy winners of the SPL title, of that there is no doubt, but in "spectacular fashion' only because Celtic were so dreadfully poor, and at the end of an era of total dominance (as I've said before, success comes in cycles), and also because Aberdeen were poor, who are also in a transitional stage.
In short, you romped to the title and have showed remarkably consistency in league games, so well done for that, but in reality you had little real challenge from the teams who traditionally, in better times, would've provided it. Don't get me wrong, Celtic have also romped to title wins, in the absence of any real challenge, especially when Rangers were in the lower leagues, but I'm simply putting your win this season into perspective.
Quite simply, if you hadn't taken your eye off the ball, you could've had the treble. There is no shilly-shallying or getting away from that fact.
Next season will be a totally different ball game - and if at the end of a hard battle (which this season wasn't) you win two in a row, then that will be a much bigger achievement and show that Rangers are *really* back in business! But for now, enjoy lifting the league trophy when it comes soon:cool:
Marco.
we will have to agree to disagree on that. Celtic's record isnt that bad actually, even if they didnt do as well as they used to, but perhaps the challenge was such that it un nerved them a bit. but overturning a 13 point gap when league was called early and turning that into a 23 point advantage; not losing to celtic in games and so far going unbeaten and with 25 league shutouts is fairly spectacular in my book.
Yes, it would be, had you done it against a calibre of Celtic side, the likes of which was led by Brendan Rodgers, and which certainly didn't apply this season. However, that's simply my view, and you have another, so yes best just to agree to disagree:)
The fact is, however, that how "spectacular", or otherwise, your performance is in any sport is directly proportional to the calibre of the opposition. And your success this season was achieved when Celtic were in decline.
Another factor that for me had a significant bearing on this season's outcome was that, for whatever reason, your team handled playing inside empty stadiums much better than mine, I've no idea why, but for me it's a fact, and that will also be why next season will be so different, once we get all the fans back.
Marco.
if for instance celtic had won the 3 games rangers won over them, there would only have been a 5 point gap.

well we of course dont know that..it might have been that it would have been a bigger gap; impossible to say really. I dont see it as a factor as its same for both sides; both have very demanding fans.
Celtic like rangers had issues to compete against throughout season, and i think celtic potentially should have done better with the supposed better players, but didnt so maybe the players were not better. As I say these things happen. Stress of trying for a 10th title got gers when they tried it too.

obviously the former.

Sorry, don't get the relevance of that. 'Ifs and buts' are irrelevant, mate - you can only deal with facts. And the fact is that this season Celtic were but a pale shadow of their usual selves, not JUST in the league, but also in the domestic cups and in Europe.
Therefore, the calibre of your opposition this season was poor, and I include Aberdeen in that - and so how "spectacular" Rangers have been must be judged on that basis.
Marco.
obviously the former.
Really?? Not for me. The treble (thus including a title win) would be far more satisfying than simply progressing one more round in Europe!
I get it, from a money perspective, but fans remember trebles far more, and form a significant part of a club's history, than any European success, outwith of reaching a final, or actually winning a trophy.
Marco.

Sure, but we'll have to agree to disagree on the empty stadium issue, and how both teams coped with it:)

I see the chaps league final will be played now in Portugal, with 12k fans allowed to attend...6 from each side.

celtics main problems were defeding from set pieces and missing good chances at other end. the teams in league saw this and attacked those weaknesses. lennon and his coaches failed to sort it. in fact lennon said he didnt have time to fix defending..which was a fairly terrible admission.
happened in england too both last season and this, among other things of course. do fans change these things? im not so sure.
but as is always in scotland, there has to be a winner, and the other might as well have come last. just the of fans attitude, which i find a bit tedious. Hence why i hope hibs win cup as it means 2 more sides get glory. Something all fans should taste

Champs league especially is such a money spinner, even one extra round is super plus the aura behind it and the rep for the team and players(also value of) goes up much more than the cups of what is still seen abroad as a diddy league in many ways. More cash and better rep means better players get signed etc, players you have get sold for higher values etc.. I bet if you asked the chairmen, they would agree
Yes, but I'd bet most fans wouldn't. I agree about the money angle, but in years to come domestic trebles remain in the minds of most fans, and in the history books, for far longer than any minor successes in Europe;)
By 'minor successes' I mean anything much outwith of reaching a final or winning a trophy.
And as was discovered recently with the threat of a new European 'super league', ultimately football is about what matters MOST to the FANS, not the money men!
Marco.

Well, it's made a big difference in the past to both sides winning games with last-minute goals, which almost certainly the presence of fans helped. I don't disagree with your assessment above, but the fact remains that your (admittedly well-deserved) title win this season was gained against a Celtic and Aberdeen side in decline.
If/when you win the title against those teams (and others), when they've been at their best, then the achievement will have been far greater.
That's my point, and one which ultimately acts as a barometer for "spectacular". In that respect, when you go 47 domestic (not just league) games unbeaten, like we did as 'invincibles', or win 12 trophies in a row, contributing to a quadruple treble, come back to me about 'spectacular':ner:;)
but as is always in scotland, there has to be a winner, and the other might as well have come last. just the of fans attitude, which i find a bit tedious. Hence why i hope hibs win cup as it means 2 more sides get glory. Something all fans should taste
No doubt in some people's minds that's true, but it's not how I see things.
I'm just bitterly disappointed by how badly our summer recruitment went, and our age-old dilly-dallying, in terms of making transfers a 'done deal', which came back to haunt us big time, and was as much a reason why we were so poor and lost the league, as anything else - particularly when the business Rangers did in that respect was the complete opposite!
No, I'm rooting for St Johnstone, for the reasons previously indicated, and because it would go down in history as a remarkable [unlikely to be repeated] double-cup win for a provincial team. However, I fancy Hibs to win.
Marco.

Interesting discussion I pop out to Aldi, couldn’t fine any of the previously recommended wines but that’s another story. Before the season started I seem to remember a certain Celtic fan mumbing as gums about how his all conquering team were going to sweep everyone aside again, after beating some fairly poor teams in the last few years. Hopefully going forward things will be a bit more competitive , which will benefit the Scottish game.
After removing my tongue from my cheek,I repeat the League and Europe are the most important the cups are just a bonus.

Lol - not from me.. Must have been your mate next door:D
As far as I recall, I made no such predictions, as I was never at any stage confident about what would happen this season.
After removing my tongue from my cheek,I repeat the League and Europe are the most important the cups are just a bonus.
Fair enough, but as I've said, I disagree. In 5 or 10 years time almost no-one will remember their team going one step further than before in Europe, in any given season, whereas they would winning a domestic double or treble. It's not domestic cup wins *in isolation* that matter; it's their significance, cumulatively, in the context of achieving a double or treble.
That's why teams are often referred to as 'double winners', or 'treble winners', by both fans, pundits and media alike. You never hear them described as 'the team who this time went one stage further in Europe'...;) And in that respect, regardless of CL money, I'd take a domestic treble every time, as ultimately what matters most is trophies!
Winning a European trophy, or even getting to a final would be different, but at the moment that's beyond either Celtic or Rangers.
Marco.

yeah, cheers.. a quick 1,2 so 2-0 in front. alas the fans letting the club down sadly. expected and poor from our point of view
Well its over for another season league wise. 4-0 the final score.. 102 points a new rangers record. 26 clean sheets beats an old Celtic record. League won by 25 points. all home games won. Only conceded 13 goals... Well done to them.
They can relax for a while now then get ready to go again.... hopefully for another successful season.
Alas, the fans have again let club down imo by gathering both at Ibrox and then George sq... depressing considering the increase in covid in city.(and totally unnessessary)
