We had the Community Shield on Sunday, which means The Premier League starts this weekend :mex:
Can City defend the title for a 3rd consecutive season?
Can Liverpool kill the monkey on their back? It'll be 30 years if they don't do it this season :eyebrows:
Come on the 'Pool!:clap::ner:
;)
Marco.
Top 6 predictions for the EPL and SPL?
Let's have 'em, chaps.... :)

Looks like you have both leagues jumbled up a bit :)
I'm wondering what toll the pointless games Liverpool have qualified to play will be.
The first one is next Wednesday, and it's in Istanbul :rfl:

I'll do mine later. Tough game tonight ahead in Romania!

Wishful yes, but you never know, hopefully your team get a good result tonight Marco
Cheers, mate. Got a 1-1 draw, with a vital away goal from Forrest! Good result, but by all accounts we were lucky, although Edouard could've sneaked it for us late on. Need to watch the match later on Celtic TV, to analyse it for myself.
The tie is still wide open, although with an away goal and home advantage now, we've given ourselves a decent chance of progressing to meet Slavia Prague in the play-offs.
I see that Tierney's now off to Arsenal in a £25m deal, providing he can agree personal terms and pass a medical, which seems a formality. Not bad for an academy player! Now we'll see how wisely that money is spent.....

Decent result away from home, yeah looks KT is away, more money to spend but not much time
Well the mighty Canaries will upset the apple cart at the Premiership season opener on Friday evening against Liverpool, you mark my words! (yes, I have had a drink! and been sniffing the Tipex!) Joking aside, I just want to see Norwich avoid the dubious record of being the Premier League's most relegated team - which we will claim (5) if we don't survive 2019/20. Personally I'm optimistic (possibly deluded...) - we were outstanding last year against all expectations and I think we will fare well against the lesser sides. Football is becoming an increasingly athletic sport and I think having youth and unity on your side is pivotal. On The Ball, City!
Good luck, mate - although not against Liverpool!;)
That said, I shall be following the progress of the Canaries with interest:)
Marco.
Celtic did well tonight - and 7-0 on Saturday was pretty emphatic! Love to see any UK team do well in Europe - so good luck to all.

Been catching up on footy and a good away advantage tonight. Scoring 4away is good.
As to Tierney going, well he hardly played last year so it's just a big gain financially to celtic.
Just watched the highlights of the Rangers game. 6 good goals tbf. Should be careful at ibrox in return as they are a pretty decent team with pace and ability but no reason not to progress.
Aribo and Morelos both took theirs very well. Thought the big danish striker looked a player. reminded me of Kluivert

It was an interesting game, the first half was pretty even, when we went 3 up the defence lots concentration but 4 goals away from home is good going.
we basically played 424 high block n run. wont be able to do that at home tho
Glad to see you're back posting here, mate....

Indeed (nor this season, and we're currently unbeaten) - and *that* is the key point.
We can clearly win (or not lose) games without him. Plus, without spending a further penny, Boli, in time, looks like he could replace Tierney. He just needs to improve on the defensive side of his game, but as far as bombing down the wing and pinging crosses into the box, he's already there.
So, the £25m transfer fee for Tierney, if it doesn't go straight into PL's [or realistically DD's] 'back pocket', is royal-icing on the cake, which will simply make Celtic even stronger. Then there's the possibility of a further £25m windfall, if we reach the group stages of the CL... A scary thought for the rest of the SPL:eek:
I can see us running over the top of a few teams this year, not just St Johnstone!;)

Nice one - I'd forgotten about that game. Must've have been entertaining to watch!
Long may both of our teams do well in Europe, as we need to raise the co-efficient, so that the SPL champions can play one less qualifying round for the CL, and if the results keep on being good, perhaps make automatic qualification, like those lucky bastards down south, many of whom are 'champions' of fuck all!;)

It’s nonsense that teams like Ajax and Celtic need to play so many qualifying rounds .
Indeed - but that's the problem when the game these days completely revolves around MONEY!

if we hadn't scored 4 goals we would have got beat 2-0 ;)
There's some good evidence now that Rangers are better at killing off teams, and also as seen on Sunday at Kille, digging deep to win late on at difficult away grounds, which will mean they'll earn more points than last season and make the challenge for the league title closer!
All good, as far as I'm concerned, simply because if Celtic do win the league (and secure nine-in-a-row), it's better to do it against a strong Rangers team, than a poor one....
I see that BR failed in a late £20m bid for Callum McGregor: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4583862/leicester-fail-transfer-celtic-callum-mcgregor/
Just how much is the current Celtic team worth?

A sort of round robin of talent
Well not the start the Canaries wanted!

Too be far Norwich are not playing badly going forward but it’s now 4-0
Too be far Norwich are not playing badly going forward but it’s now 4-0
I'd have taken 4-0 at full time. Half time, ouch! To be fair, Liverpool are just a different class. Their value £976.28m. Norwich £83.12m. I don't expect us to beat Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham etc - but I think we have a fair chance against the bottom third, and ambitions this year just have to be to survive, which is going to be a huge challenge in itself such is the gulf.
Well the second half we did much better - no more goals conceded and we got one back - 4-1 against the European Champions at Anfield is no disgrace and I am super proud of the team. Super proud. Bring on Newcastle next. :)

Ah, didn't expect that to be happening midweek. Is that normal? I thought the first league fixtures always kicked off on a Saturday? That's what happens in Scotland.
Anyway, not to worry - you won the second half! And your season will be defined by games against other teams than Liverpool:)
Marco.

Dunno, thought it was usually Saturday but who knows with Sky!
LFC beat West Ham 4-0 in last season's opener at Anfield, and Barcelona 4-0 in May, so we did better than both of them! Think they also beat Arsenal 5-0 last season, so not going to panic after one game, and Anfield is a fortress! Best unbeaten home run anywhere I believe across all the top leagues.

last time liverpool played norwich in the opener at anfield liverpool won the league so maybe their year. norwich are a decent honest side and havent gone mental with buying, unlike Villa. it will be interesting to see who comes out best

So the traditional kick-off time for a new season, unfurling of league flags, etc (3pm on a Saturday), is something else that's been spoiled by the money men!
And normally such games aren't televised live... Does anyone know how long that's been happening in England? As far as I was aware, their league games kicked off the weekend after the Scottish ones, so something has changed?
Anyway, I certainly wouldn't worry about losing to Liverpool, as I suspect that most teams will suffer a similar fate this season. I'll be looking forward to your games against Leicester - and hoping you can get one over BR!;)
Marco.
City will be unfurling :eyebrows:
Yeah I know... But at one time (perhaps even as early as last season?) the unfurling of flags and league kick-off fixtures in England were played on a Saturday afternoon (the weekend after the games in Scotland).
Different after that during the season, when they can be played anytime, just like in Scotland, but in Scotland the opening day of the season is always 3pm on a Saturday afternoon - and none of the games are shown live by Sky or anyone else.
Seems bizarre to me that Liverpool (and Norwich) kicked off their season on a Friday evening, in a live televised game, which is why it caught me unawares... Hey ho.
Marco.

just sky getting their moneys' worth. if it wasnt for sky we up here would be on a more level playing field
Indeed. Plus, for me, it spoils the occasion kicking off your league campaign on a Friday night.
Anyway, we've got a hard game away to Motherwell today, at a 12 noon kickoff (again because of Sky), when the players only got back from Romania, after playing a very demanding game there, at 4.30pm on Thursday!
You guys have got Hibs at home on Sunday - that could be an interesting one... However, I'd expect you to win, as indeed you will most games this season at Ibrox.
Marco.
Well didnt play well last week, although Livy are a tough nut on their plastic pitch(which really shouldn't be allowed in the high end professional game). Celtic should have too much for them, even if their defence is a "work in progress":eyebrows: Dont expect it to be as easy as St's tho. They have been awful preseason and their manager may be first sacked if it continues.
Hibs have been , like killy a bogey team for us so a win; any win wil be a big boost

Just home so not seen the game, but another win for Celtic
Good game; worth the trip to New York  finished 6-1 Defoe with a hat trick, Alfredo got 2 although wasnt on long, and Ojo the 6th. Hibs are a good side and came back from dead late in first half scoring when it was 2-0, but should have been several... Thought Their keeper Marciano was different class and my Mom
Quality result, mate! Didn't see that coming against Hibs... Some other team, maybe. Backs up my feeling that Rangers will be very strong this season at Ibrox, and I suspect that will be the case for the game on the 1st Sept...;)

I've been saying to anyone who will listen you can't stick a one season championship manager into an elite Premier league team and expect him to do the business. Regardless of his playing credentials.. I'm a Millwall fan and and I actually think Frank Lampard is a decent bloke but he's no prem manager (well not yet anyway)

But hopefully he will do well enough, although I've got reservations on the players mentality.

yup, think its the final plays offs they go into at this stage. still it gives another bite of cherry, albeit a smaller less sweet one. Rangers are hoping to join them on thursday night. We hold a 4-2 advantage so we have a good chance, being at home.
But, the need to guard against not giving their all for 90 mins. The Danes are not a bad side

Disappointing result last night for Celtic and Scottish football.
I find it more sad than anything else.
Scottish football is just so nowhere now, in terms of the standard of European club footie. Actually on an international level too !!!!
Hugely sad to see this descent to becoming 3rd rate no-hopers at every level.
Kilmarnock beaten by a team of part timers. Celtic losing 4 goals at home and going out.
It really is a true reflection of the level now.
Even my team St Johnstone, one of the greatest teams ever...... so bad.
I cringe now when I see them on telly, as I do with all footie I see from up there.
Honestly, when I see second tier football in England, it is way ahead of anything I see in Scotland.
I suppose Killie beaten by part timers from Wales is very telling in respect of current levels.
Just so sad, and i dont understand why. The clubs must be getting money for TV rights. Crowds at Celtic are still large.
It must just be that not enough kids are playing the game there now, and coming through. I dont know why.
Did I say... very sad !!

Celtic have been playing to a high standard but the team has kinda passed its sell by I think. It may take a bit of tin rattling to get it back; only time will tell.
Rangers have been gash for years, so its nice to see them playing so well now. Hoping they keep it up tbh.
Money wise, Celtic's wage bill is very high and was more than the whole Romanian premier league.... But the small teams, IE all bar the old firm struggle with poor crowds, poor sponsorship and very little tv money, yet the players still want decent money.
Size of the population watching footie isnt enough to support all these pro teams now. simple maths

Agreed
Celtic have been playing to a high standard but the team has kinda passed its sell by I think.
I think that is the problem. Celtic are playing to a higher standard than any other team in Scotland, which is why they win almost always.
But when playing against teams outside Scotland, their real standard is shown to be rather lacking in quality. Best of a bad bunch does not equal high standard.
Or look at Killie. Did very well in Scotland last year. Europe watch out !!!!
First challenge........ Knocked out by part timers from Wales, in Europe
It’s like anything else, if you play with or against inferior folks, you descend to/ are pulled down to their level.
To get better at anything you have to be challenged/ dragged up by that challenge.
It isnt Celtics fault. They beat whatever is in front of them domestically, but that doesn’t prepare them for out in the big bad world. Sadly.
I see we are loaning in Andy King from Leicester City. Quite a good player and scores goals from midfield.
Interesting that Brendan Rodgers is allowing it.

Interesting end to the European Supercup.
Don't get me wrong - Tammy Abraham's penalty kick was poor, but it's interesting that Adrian's feet were both clear and forward of the line when the ball was struck.
Which means that VAR should have called it correctly, and the kick be retaken.

Very happy with the Canaries first home result today, given Newcastle's new £40m Brazilian signing Joelinton is probably worth more than our entire squad... Although I suspect with his hat-trick today Teemu Pukki will see his value increase! 4 goals in 2 PL games - not bad for a free transfer! But from the reports it was as last year, a great team effort not just one superstar performance. These are the games we need to win to stay up. Roll on Chelsea next week!
Good win Alex. Canaries started well considering. Villa who did polar opposite and spent heavily lost again.
Also see Marco's team beat dunfermline after extra time.

In a way its better thus way. If we are not good enough to beat them at Ibrox we shouldn't be in the groups

Very true Grant, but an away goal would have been handy
Hard luck guys! Still, 0-0 away from home isn't too shabby a result in Europe, especially as you're so strong now at Ibrox, where I'd expect you to go on and dispatch the Poles comfortably:)
We got a good result tonight at home against AIK. 2-0, so no away goals to worry about this time!
In that respect, I'd argue that even a 1-0 win at home (and clean sheet), from a first leg tie, is better than a 1-1 draw away, simply because in these games so much hinges on away goals potentially counting as double, and being caught by a sucker punch at home, as Celtic found greatly to their cost against Cluj!!
Lots more on that tomorrow, and plenty of other things that have happened recently and been commented on, as for various reasons I haven't posted on this thread for a while - so stay tuned!;)

Unfortunately losing 2-0 at half time, Kenny Miller scoring the first. First time I’ve seen them this under the new manager David Hopkin, not impressed all long ball stuff, poor defence not helping either. Don’t think I can face the second half.
Interesting, as they pushed Hibs all the way in the cup last weekend!
One of my mates is a big Morton fan, so I try and follow their results.

Chelsea's third was excellently taken by Abraham.
Godfrey was lucky not to get sent off for that stamp on Mount's foot.
Not the result I wanted, but probably the one I anticipated. It's not really expected we'll beat the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, but we never give up, which is all you can ask for really. Our next two away games will be key (West Ham and Burnley) with a home game in between to Man City...

It's that game after the international break that prompted me to watch the Norwich v Chelsea match today.
I haven't seen Norwich play for a good while.
They're organised, determined and resilient, so I don't expect they'll be a pushover for any team.
It's just a matter of time before they start winning games.
We destroyed Newcastle to be honest. And laughing at Lawro's prediction "Pukki won't score 10 goals in the Premier League all season." 3 games in and he has 5! Hope we don't lose him in January...

As a City fan for fifty years, there is no way I would swap our achievements last year for a Champions' League win.
A clear penalty not given despite a VAR review. That is now a number of incidents that have all resulted in a negative outcome for City. I'd like to consider that as unusual for my team, but it is not.

Crawley Town are specialist giant killers.
I can't remember how many seasons ago (it's not many) they got through as far as playing the other team with Manchester in its name, at The Swamp (so called after Shrek, who used to live there).
They gave Ordsall Rovers a fair run for the money.
Your manager didn't want the inconvenience or the hassle of playing unwanted additional games when the focus is to stay in the Premier League.
I can't say as I blame him.
Liverpool went out of both domestic cups last season in the first game.
They were focused on trying to win the Premier League, only they didn't pull it off.

Unfortunately I've not had time as I'd hoped, with various things going on, to contribute to this thread,, but just to say I'm pleased that fans of teams other than Celtic and Rangers are discussing their clubs fortunes, or otherwise, so long may that continue, as despite appearances sometimes, this isn't just an SPL thread!:eyebrows:
That said, good luck to both of the Glasgow teams tonight in their respective games in Europe. It won't be easy, but I'm confident that both will go through and reach the group stages of the Europa League, setting up a potentially mouth-watering tie on Sunday at Ibrox!

I think it'll be hard going, for both Celtic and Rangers, with no easy games, especially against Porto and Lazio! Both of our teams will do very well to get through to the knockout stages.
If one arguably has a slightly better chance, it might be Celtic, as we've played Cluj already, so know what they're about, and also Rennes, albeit in a friendly at Celtic Park earlier this summer, whereas Rangers will largely be going into the unknown.
Anyway, there are some great ties to look forward to, so we'll see how it all unfolds!
Marco.
Yup rangers group is alas the hardest. Porto are ranked 16. The other 2 in our group, I think are both higher than celtic who are no 2 seeds. But that's from a few years ago successes. Porto got to quarters of cl last year I'm sure, but got beat by a lesser side this year, so rankings are not everything
Good luck to both
But, after saying that rankings mean nowt sometimes.
Absolutely, and on their day, both Celtic and Rangers are capable of beating *anyone* at home, so it's crucial that both of them win as many points at home as possible and make their grounds a fortress. Rangers look particularly strong at home this season and also solid defensively, so I'd expect them to win most of their games at Ibrox.
Which brings us to tomorrow's game.... Any predictions?
With our defensive woes, of various descriptions, I can't see us getting any more than a point, and Rangers may well win... However, we'll probably score, as we have been of late, so I'll go for a 2-2 draw!

open minded tbh. it might be a good one or a bore fest. your defence seems to have improved of late. fancy us to win it if pushed for an answer but tbh it could go either way. you cant really predict old firm games, especially when both sides are playing well
Yeah, that's kind of how I see it. However I think it'll largely hinge on how well Celtic's makeshift defence and newbies among them cope with the pressure they'll be put under.
Rangers are rightly favourites, as they're bang on form and at home, but as usual in these games, it'll come down to who wants it most and how influential the key players are on both sides, and both have potential match winners throughout.
Plus, also how disciplined both sets of players are, and so which team manages to keep 11 players on the pitch! Let's hope that the likes of Brown and Morelos behave themselves.
Marco.
Alf has been a changed man this season so far so hope so. Not that I think he will deffo play. may be Defoe.

I stopped when I broke my leg, which is now causing me problems nearly 40 years later. Apparently the surgical plate is the cause of an infection I’ve had for the best part of year, I am due to have surgery at the beginning of October to have the plate removed , which will also involve a skin graft as the tissue is badly damaged.

Back to bad news I see.. Oh well, Probably deserved it. Well done Marco:)
Cheers, mate. I haven't watched the game yet, so will comment (in some detail) later once I have.
All I will say for now, is that I was right: the team that wanted it more, won. Last time in this fixture, it was Rangers. This time it was Celtic.
Plus, I remember having a conversation with Robin last season, when Lennon was appointed, and him saying that he was a "downgrade", compared with Brendan Rodgers, and moreover that his Celtic season ticket-holding friend agreed and had major doubts - and I vehemently disagreed...
Remember, Robin? Cluj game aside (and there were valid reasons for what happened there), what do you think about Lennon now?
I said, quite categorically, when Lennon was appointed, that he was the *ideal* man for the job, and NOTHING I've seen so far, either last season with him helping Celtic to secure the Treble-Treble, including a cup final win, or this season, Cluj game aside, has changed my mind!

My opinion of Lennon hasn't changed it was a poor game and Rangers were awful and too be honest if it was any other game I would have turned it off. The better won. The only Rangers player who have pass marks today would be the keeper and if we play like that in Europe we will get hammered.
My opinion of Lennon hasn't changed...
Interesting... Why is that though, especially in the face of, IMO, overwhelming evidence/facts (so far), that both your Celtic friend and you were wrong about him, and I say that with the greatest of respect? Maybe it's too soon after the game, as you'll naturally still be hurting, to be rational? I get that.
Or maybe it's simply a case of Rangers fans hating Neil Lennon, for what/who he is, regardless of his undeniable success and laudable achievements to date, as a manager.....
IMO however, Lennon will go onto prove that he's a better manager than Rodgers was - and he's already started doing that, not just at home, but in Europe. As good as Rodgers was, he NEVER achieved a 6-1 aggregate victory against any team in Europe, and which included a 4-1 away victory. Plus Celtic are playing the best, most attacking football, both in the SPL and in Europe, which I've seen for YEARS!
Anyway, I'll comment more later:cool:
Marco.
he isnt as good a manager as rodgers but he is what they want and some say need going for 9 and 10. he may be able to do it, only time will tell. its up to rangers to do something about it and imo their signings havent been enough this year
he isnt as good a manager as rodgers...
I'm curious though, in precisely what way? Give me some *specifics*, backed up by facts. I just don't see it:)
Marco.
Only place he's been any good is Celtic and thats because perhaps they have a big budget in a smallish league. He isnt a bad manager, but perhaps a bit old styled. Rogers is a better coach imo, or at least a better coach for better players...
Book is still out on him this time around. I might add the book is still out on SG as well. He has done fairly well for a newbie, but its not the going gets tougher, so again time will tell... He does attract good players tho being who he is.
Only place he's been any good is Celtic and thats because perhaps they have a big budget in a smallish league....
Hibs? Didn't do too shabby there... And with respect, the very same could be said of Walter Smith, with Rangers!;)
Actually, in that respect, I think the comparisons between them are uncanny, especially in terms of both being DIEHARD Celtic or Rangers men. IMO, Lennon is for Celtic what Smith was for Rangers. And when he's been in charge of Celtic for long enough, will go onto prove it.

In terms of the first bit, I can sort of see where you're coming from, but of course all I care about is how successful he is at Celtic. Anything else is immaterial. Among other things, Cluj game at Parkhead aside, I think he's a more astute tactician than Rodgers, who for me was too rigid with his system, subsequently often making Celtic too predictable.
SG will go onto become an excellent manager, of that I have no doubt, but he's still learning, and today Lennon's greater guile and experience in these fixtures paid dividends. Your last point I think is spot on, because based on this evidence, especially when Celtic have all of their players fit and newbies properly bedded in, Rangers have still got a bit to go, to close the gap.
More later on our (heavily slated) 'dodgy defence'!

Robin, you're normally such a sensible, objective and level-headed guy, when it comes to football, and you know I like you, but I have to be honest and say that your summary of this game is diametrically opposed to that of anyone else I've heard, and sadly is coming across as that of a sore loser, which really isn't like you.
Sorry mate, but I can only tell it as ai see it:(

I think you are misreading, I have clearly stated that the better team won. I also said the referee had an interesting game I didn’t say he had a bad one or was too blame. At half time the two pundits Kris Boyd and Kris Commons , one thought there should be 1 red and 1 yellow the other thought 2 yellows but there were none.
I have stated in my opinion it was a poor game and stand by that.
Fair enough, but I stand by my reading of your mood;)
I'll let you know what I think of the game later, and if I agree with you, I'll definitely say!
Marco.
Ok, I watched the game with my dad, who's not really a Celtic fan - he just likes a good, clean and skilful game of football. We both agreed with you in that if was a rather scrappy match overall, and that the passing of the Rangers players was woeful! So what happened to them, I wonder, as before this game they'd been great in that department?
However, right from the off, Celtic were clearly the more determined and resolute team (they obviously wanted it more) and set out to press and frustrate Rangers, by denying them any space or time on the ball, nullifying any threat they had in the process, and it worked a treat, as Defoe was starved of service, and Forster hardly had a save to make throughout the whole match...
Indeed, Rangers only had one shot on target during the whole game, which proved how effective Celtic's tactics were. They huffed and puffed, but lacked penetration and never really posed a threat to the makeshift Celtic defence, and indeed had it not been for McGregor, who pulled off great saves from Julien and Ntcham, Celtic would've won by 3 or 4, so whilst Celtic were far from at their best, I can't agree that they were poor.
They controlled the game, pretty much from the off, and were more threatening than Rangers going forward, plus much more of an organised unit. The most pleasing thing for me though was the performance of players such as Julien and Bolingoli, who beforehand had been slaughtered by the press/media and some of the Celtic fans. Both sailed through the game and had very confident and commanding performances, particularly Julien, who cleared almost everything that Rangers threw into the box, and won man of the match.
It was a close call for that between him and Edouard, who once again, like Dembele before him did, showed his class and that he is a big game player. He took his goal brilliantly. I firmly believe that Julien and Bolingoli will go onto do a great job for Celtic, along with El Hamed, who also looks the part, as does Bauer. One criticism I'd aim at Lennon, however, is his treatment of Craig Gordon, who hasn't put a foot wrong, and indeed has been playing superbly, but has been unceremoniously dumped for Forster!
Yes Forster is quality, and last time he was at Celtic did a superb job, but right now I don't see him as being any better than Gordon, and I dislike 'old pals acts' I just hope Lennon can keep Gordon happy. as we still need him as a quality back-up, because I don't think that Bain is as good as some think. Plus, no goal again against Celtic for Morelos... He's undoubtedly a very good striker, but he'll never go down as a Rangers hero or true great until he breaks his Celtic duck!
Pound-for-pound, I still think that Edouard is the better player and the more likely to get you a vital goal in the biggest games. The referee I thought had a good game, and tried his best to be realistically lenient and let the game flow, so if that's what you meant Robin by "interesting", then fair enough. What about the disgraceful tackle though by Jordan Jones on Bauer?:mental::nono:

That was ridiculous and could've been a leg-breaker!! Gerrard shook his head in disbelief when it happened, and no wonder, as that's another one of his players who clearly has discipline issues and been sent off in a game against Celtic, so Rangers will now be missing him through suspension, when things start up again after the international break.
All in all it was a great result for us, but I'm certainly not getting carried away. Like Grant says, there's a LONG way to go!
However, it'll be interesting to see how Rangers bounce back after this defeat. Their home game against Livingston should provide the platform for that, and of course I'm sure that they'll be all out for revenge in the next Old Firm encounter at Celtic Park, where they'll no doubt be trying to do to Celtic, what Celtic did to them.
It's been a good season so far, and I'm certain that there are still plenty more thrills and spills to come!
Marco.
Robin, Grant, any thoughts on this?

not much. ive not seen any of it. i did hear through grapevine that jones injury was caused by the celtic player hence his rediculous assault. i may get a chance to see it later today, but may not bother; we were so off the pace of it its maybe not worth it
i did hear through grapevine that jones injury was caused by the celtic player hence his rediculous assault.
I didn't see Bauer doing anything to Jones, certainly not deliberately, so there was no excuse whatsoever for that type of retaliation. Morelos behaved himself impeccably yesterday, and on that evidence you're right, he is a changed man. Let's hope he's not now being replaced by another out of control hothead!
Marco.
Nope. I here wanyama is heading back to your lot
Interesting, I thought that was off... Would like to see the Greg Taylor one finalised today, too.
Marco.
Think a fair chance both will get over line. Doubt we will get any more after yesterday....which will be a huge mistake by the board.

As I said Marco, it was a poor game, Rangers went with the same tactics as the previous meeting but it was clear from very early on that it was not going to work this time round. I watched the game with my son who was at the game on Thursday night and couldn’t believe what he was watching it was night and day away from Thursday night.
As I said Celtic were the better team and deserved to win.
The referee decided not to flash cards around early on which meant there were a couple of lucky players, the Jordon Jones tackle was rightly a red card, the first yellow was 70 minutes into the game.
I just hope the Rangers players and Manager learn from the experience.
The problem we have at moment is we have no width now.. Jones was all we had and he is out... ojo isnt width as he just cuts inside. McPake, Middleton and appartently Hastie all not good enough and sent out on loan. nothing coming in so where are we? watching turgid footy for most of season...Barring spending cash on a defender we dont seem to want to play we havent spent anything....
guess where the title is going?;)

You could be right Grant, that was the main problem yesterday no width in the team until Jones came on. If you are going to play everything through the middle, you need someone to play the killer ball. The first goal although Goldson gave the ball away it was the pass from Ryan Christie that made the goal.
The goal on Thursday night came from a cross from Jones.
Well they have a couple weeks to think about it with the International break. Still time to go to the market today but don’t think it will happen. Unlike Celtic who are on a signing spree.

yup, we have 2 overlapping fullbacks with no-one to overlap. that leaves the back door open... one dimensional footy alas and you can set up against that easily.
SG and board have totally f**ked up..... He might as well leave now for all the good he will do by playing this way. Hastie cut up the spl last year but deemed not good enough after, what, 20 mins of a euro game? FFS SG, get a grip son. and stop sending players on bloody loan and not replacing them:doh:

It’s clear he’s trying to play the Liverpool way, but don’t have that quality of player.
Last season it was clear we needed a no10...we are still waiting. We needed a new left back...still waiting...a replacement for Cany...still waiting. Possibly another big striker to replace laugherty...still waiting. We paid over 3 mil for a cb with pedigree and dont play him even tho goldston has looked error prone, as at times is katic. The lad edmunson hasnt put a foot wrong when ive seen him but neither can get a game.
I just fail to see his logic... or the boards in that they state they "must win league" but spend no money..
as for the liverpool way....only liverpool play that way all time sucessfully as they have the players for it.

I think you’re right, recruitment has been disappointing, Goldson has not been playing well this season, so there maybe a change coming. We still need a playmaker Davis has been playing well but has been playing much deeper.

That's fine, Robin, but you said that both teams were poor. I disagree, and so do the majority of people who watched the game. Did you listen to Kris Boyd's after-match summary on Sky? Celtic weren't poor; they simply played how they needed to play, in order to beat Rangers - and that's what happened.
Yes, they can play much silkier football, but that's not the point. The point is mate that, tactically, Lennon got it spot on.
Marco.

thought he was off to club bruge... there has been so many false dawns re Kent i will keep my power dry until he appears in the shirt.

Not sure I go along with that. You play well or you play poorly. not as well as you need;thats a dangerous attitude and gets you beat.
Lol - that's not what I meant... Lennon chose the tactics he thought would beat Rangers, and the players successfully implemented them - simples! And every one to a man [bar Forster, as he could've largely gone for a sleep:eyebrows:] worked their socks off to achieve it.
Sometimes you beat teams by playing silky football, as Celtic often do, and other times something different is required. Yesterday was one of those times. That's not being "poor"; it's simply playing the right type of game to nullify and defeat the opposition - and that's precisely what happened yesterday at Ibrox:)
Jeez, back in the day, the Rangers teams that Walter Smith sent to Celtic Park, aided by the brilliance of Andy Goram, often inflicted a similar thing on Celtic, particularly during the Tommy Burns era!
Marco.

I think at least 9 Rangers players had a poor game and several Celtic players also, James Forrest being one. In my opinion it was a poor game for the spectators unless of course you're a Celtic fan as your team won.
Anyway its a long season and the league is not won in the Old Firm games.
I think at least 9 Rangers players had a poor game and several Celtic players also, James Forrest being one.
I agree about Forrest, as nullifying his threat was one thing Rangers got right. So who else in the Celtic team, in your opinion, was poor? I'd also contend that one of the main reasons that the Rangers players you mention played poorly, is because they weren't allowed to play well, as a result of the system Celtic adopted.
You never get nine players on one team in an old firm derby having an 'off day'. Sorry, there was more to it than that.
Fully agree on your last point. The same would be true if Rangers had won:)

You probably won't agree Marco, but the keeper looked dodgy the whole game not that we tested him too much. The defence played fine the midfield cancelled each other out for most of the game McGregor was lucky not to be booked twice, once for the early tackle and second for the dive when he thought Flanagan was going to tackle him.
I thought Christie and Edouard played well.
We look at the game differently, the crowd were up for the game but after about 20 minutes they were silenced, so yes Celtic were effective, but it was a poor game and i would rather we were played off the park and lost which was not the case.

still want to see him paraded... He is a decent player and should improve as he gets more game time. He came on a lot last year...

No, I agree about Forster. Quite simply, he's not match sharp. He can't be, as he hasn't played enough games. And in the games he has played, he's not really been tested. Yet for some reason Lennon thinks he's a better choice right now, than a fully fit, match sharp Craig Gordon!
Don't get me wrong, on his A-game, Forster is top-notch and probably better than Gordon, but he's not there yet. He will be if he keeps on playing, but that's not exactly fair on Gordon, who's done nowt wrong to be be dropped for.
As for your last point, as I said before, you can't always win games playing silky football and blowing teams off of the park. There are other ways to win, and still play well, just not particularly attractively, like Rangers used to do to Celtic in the old days, and I don't remember the Rangers fans back then complaining!;)

I agree when Rangers made the final in Manchester a few years ago it was not by playing attractive football, didn’t enjoy watching it. A bit like the old days when George Graham was at Arsenal- 1-0 to the Arsenal and like watching paint dry. I would rather go to the park and watch the weans playing football.
As I say, paraded.. I then believe it fully. Lol
Apparently spurs want celtic to cough up at least half wanyama wages.
Talk celtic are interested in rangers target moussa konate marco
Kent apparently Confirmed now.
Celtic agreed Taylor deal and O'connor from man u
So was it £7m for Kent? If so, where have Rangers got that kind of money from?:hmm:
Good luck with it, and all that [he will defo improve your team], but if I were a Rangers supporter, I'd be worried of spending money I don't have and going bust again, trying to stop Celtic winning 10-in-a-row... The thing is, come January, if Rangers are on top, Celtic will just open the coffers (making way for the moths first) and sign who they need to sign in order to, as far as possible, secure the title.
The KT money has barely been nibbled at yet... And then what? Rangers go out and spend even more to try and stop Celtic? It's a dangerous game to play when you've got debts to pay and aren't rich.
Anyway, no Wanyama... Not surprising, as the wages issue was just a step too far at this stage. However, I think it'll happen sooner rather than later, as I predict he'll be Brown's eventual replacement.
Really pleased with getting Greg Taylor in, as he's just the sort of steady-Eddie, dependable defender we need, and a Scotland international. He's quality. Not KT quality, yet, but who knows! Lee O'Connor's one for future development and the boy Pingpong, soz, Jeremie Frampong, from Man City, could be interesting.
Do you know anything about him, Chris?:)
Marco.
6.5m and an up to 1.5m addon if sold for profit.. 2m down and installments as most are.. not the financial end of world tbh... we hadnt spent much tbh
Getting dorrans and dodoo off books pays the wage as well
Mmm... I'm unconvinced. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the Rangers accounts dept. Anyway, the good news is you've made the kind of 'marquee' signing you needed. Poor Livi, I think they're in for a hammering at Ibrox, once the international break is over...:trust:
On the subject of Scotland, any thoughts? Have we got a chance at all against Russia or Belgium, even with Clarke in charge now? For me, no. I expect us to get pumped in both games, especially against Belgium, but I hope I'm wrong!

Hopefully we won’t get pumped if nothing else Steve Clarke’s we’re always hard to score against.
Think we will get pumped off both. Our net spend is about £6m at moment plus obviously some more in 6 months. But wages wise we are no more than we were; maybe less. We also brought in 4 top under 18's a few days ago.. 2 from linfield and one from man city and one from sporting lisbon.
We have Euro money coming in plus about 50k every game so it should be fine. Celtics wage bill is higher than the rest of the pl put together and then some. As they didnt get CL money again it will eat into the Teirney money.
A lot of wages we had have gone with more next year. Wages are the big issue. Kent is only getting 20k which is not too serious, considering what has been spent.. + he should develop into a healthy profit

Yes, but like you we'll also be getting money in from Europe, and we had plenty even before KT was sold, plus we've no major debts. Anyway, I hope it works out well for you, not winning the title, of course:eyebrows:, but that you remain financially stable in the years to come.

Same here, but the Russians are no mugs, and carry a major attacking threat, which we'll do well to stem. If we can escape with losing no more than three against Belgium, we'll have done ok.

Yup, wont be doing that.. we moved on.. Daniel Candeias, Kyle Lafferty, Liam Burt, Lee Wallace, Ryan Hardie, Lee Hodson, Andrew Dallas, Gareth McAuley, Graham Dorrans, and Joe Dodoo, a lot of those on decent money, plus the loans of Joe Worrall, Lassana Coulibaly, Steven Davis and Kent.
So wages wise we wont have increased all that much but have brought in a lot of value....Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, Steven Davis, Jake Hastie, Jordan Jones, Greg Stewart, Joe Aribo, George Edmundson, Brandon Barker; most of them young, and cost relatively little bar kent and Helander.

Cool... What's the deal then on Helander? As you say, he was a big-money signing, but doesn't seem to be getting many games, nor seems to be trusted by Gerrard in the big ones that matter (i.e. against Legia Warsaw and Celtic).

Yup Robin, that's the bottom line... Financially, Celtic could afford to lose the title, and simply bask in the glory of winning the Treble-Treble and 8-in-a-row.
Not so Rangers, if they lose, and then go into next season with the *unbelievable pressure* of trying to stop 10-in a row. That's why the REAL pressure is on them!
Marco.
