Not a great night if you’re a Spurs fan.
Not a great night if you’re a Spurs fan. Scoreline reminds me of an F A cup tie in the 60 s when Spurs beat Crewe 13-2. The lad upfront for Bayen had an incredible night
Teams like Bayern, Barca and Real Madrid are capable of doing that to anyone when they hit top form. Spurs will bounce back, as we always did after worse CL humpings in the past from PSG and Barca.
Big games for Celtic and Rangers tomorrow night against Cluj and Young Boys respectively. Anything could happen in our game at Celtic Park, as I expect that one, once again, to be a topsy-turvy affair, but if Rangers can come back from Switzerland with a point or more, I'll be very impressed, as Young Boys are a top outfit.
They'll certainly be going over there full of confidence and in great form.
Marco.
yup, best not laughing too hard; it could be your team sometime is what i tell folk.
Rangers are away to young boys in Bern tonight. Kickoff soon.. Celtic play later v cluj who the played in the champions league qualifiers.

appears to be very open. hope our defence holds.. they look to be a clever side

Yeah well taken goal, but poor game so far lots of poor passing
Yup, great finish! Let's hope that Rangers can retain that scoreline or add to it in the second half. I think there'll defo be more goals.
Marco.
their strikers look dangerous. a big strong team
Yeah, bollox to their equaliser... I'm afraid that Tav's defensive frailties are exposed at this level. Still, if Rangers can hold on and get a point (or more), then it'll be a good result, as playing away from home in Europe is always a difficult task.
Interesting to see ex-Man Utd and Celtic 'dud' Saidy Janko playing for Young Boys... He was always a flying machine, and liked a physical battle, but ultimately lacked finesse and ability.
Marco.

Another error got what we deserved
Tight end. Their keeper made a good save and we had one knocked off for offside and lose it at death.
They beat juve last year so no shame.
Another error got what we deserved
Yeah, again by Tavernier...
Sorry guys, he's not a defender at European level. In that respect, he's ok in the SPL, and superb at free kicks and providing assists at the other end of the park, but defensively he switches off too often - and at this level you get punished. I also think that McGregor could've done better with the second goal, although he's saved Rangers on countless occasions in the past, so cannot be blamed.
However, at 1-1 Rangers were denied a stonewall penalty and Morelos could've scored a second, bar a superb save from their keeper. Anyway, it's not a disaster, as it leaves all the teams in the group level on 3 points, and shows now how important winning home games will be!
Anyway, over to Celtic now - and this match will NOT be easy either.
Marco.
Celts have home advantage so should win

Yeah should have had penalty, but if we keep defending like that we won’t get out of the group.
Revenge time for Celtic
Celts have home advantage so should win
Yeah, so did we in the CL last time when we played them, and look what happened;)
Marco.
At least u have a proper full back
2-0 win, and could've been much more, but for some unfortunate misses and great defending from Cluj!
What a difference having a proper defence makes in these games (compared to the makeshift pish we were forced to use the last time)!! If we could've played that team against Cluj in the CL qualifier, we wouldn't have gone out of the competition at that stage. Anyway, that's us now top of our group.
The upcoming double-header against Lazio I think will make or break our chances of qualifying. For me, we'll need a minimum of 3 points from those games to keep us in the hunt.
Ryan Christie was simply MAGNIFICENT tonight - both in terms of skill and endeavour, as he was winning the ball and influencing things all over the park. What a player he's turning into, which is great news for us and also the Scotland team.
Bolingoli was also superb, and really starting to show what he's about now, and Elyounoussi was immense, making and finishing the second goal almost all himself. You can see why Southampton paid £16m for him! Plus, Edouard is really starting to look every bit a £9m striker - indeed more like an utter bargain at that price. Sheer class!:)
Marco.
Well done Celtic, not a disaster for Rangers either.

Well done to Celtic
Cheers, guys! What also made my night was Kieran Tierney making 3 of Arsenal's 4 goals in their 4-0 win against Standard Liege, with superb crosses and assists from the left-hand side. That boy is potentially world-class. All he needs is more experience playing regularly at the top level, but he has all the necessary tools.
Mark my words: he will set the EPL on fire, and Arsenal are going places now with him and that 18-year old wonder kid, Martinelli!:trust:
Marco.
Yup good win as expected. If Lennon had played defenders last time you'd have won then too.
Oh well its maybe for best.
Top of group.. What's not to like.
Good news Tierney is playing again
bit of a strange day.. City lose 2-0 to Wolves, as do Celtic to Livingston. Gers 2 up and dominent so far ....Man U away to Newcastle and I fear will be playing for their manager's future...Currently sitting 12th, so really need to win
Well, we fucked it up today against Livingston, much as I suspected we might, as we clearly struggle to play well on plastic pitches! And I see Rangers (as expected) are taking advantage, being 2-0 up at half time against Hamilton..
Anyway, guys, enjoy being top of the table, going into the International break. Aside from the game at Ibrox, your league form has warranted it!
Marco.
heard you were poor today all over pitch. That big lad they have up front is a handful. gave out defence a pounding too.. not subtle but it can be effective.
so 5-0 it ended. wee Defoe with a hat trick... his goals to minutes is impressive...

Burkey, Snodders, and McGinn? Nah, I think we'll score and get a point! Pressure's kind of off now, as we're relying on the play-offs. so I think that might help.

I had a surgical plate removed from my right shin, been there for 40 years after a football injury. They have also taken a chunk from left thigh to fill the gap and also a skin graft from right thigh. Will be in for a couple of weeks while the healing process takes place, hopefully out of bed tomorrow.
Wish you well, mate, for a speedy recovery:)

Another masterclass from Clarke.
We are becoming a lau.... No, we are becoming an even bigger laughing stock than when bertie Bassett was in charge.. Lol
Liverpool FC Legends take on Rangers FC Legends at Ibrox today.. My Daughter and family have tickets; the youngest likes Liverpool at moment.
Should be a good game although Liverpool's players are mostly just recently hung up boots so should win comfortably. SG will I believe turn out for both teams if fit enough.
all for charity
Was a decent game yesterday, although much of it at walking pace..a few looked like they needed zimmers to get off too:D 3-2 to liverpool which didnt really do them justice. first half they were a decent looking outfit. all the old skills were still there.
you can take the legs away but not the class. SG had a 10min cameo in blue, and nearly got through for a goal. He looked like he could still play tbh

Yup.... Alf played a fair chunk of Columbia's 0-0 draw, and did quite well, but no goals alas. Joe Aribo will start for Nigeria in this afternoon's friendly with Brazil in I think, Singapore. He scored on his debut so his rubbing shoulders with the worlds greats shows he was right to move to Gers...Take note Lee Bowyer:ner:
Brazil game now finished. Aribo scored again, and game ended 1-1.. The boy is going to make us a lot of dosh;)
Just watched his goal.. Quality goal too. Will have been a few scouts at game I bet.
Never mind that pish, you should be watching Scotland beating San Marino 5-0;)
Make it 6-0 - peach if a free kick from Stuart Armstrong.... Small mercies, indeed!

Well, the England game is rapidly detracting from entertainment into total farce.
What is it with these racist assholes? Whats the point? What do they hope to achieve with the booing and flipping the middle finger to anyone thats watching?
Utterly pathetic in this day and age or in fact in any age.
Just no need for it!

Absolutely disgusting - let’s hope we don’t get to stage 3, but if that’s what’s needed to rid the game of racism so be it. Sad that this prejudice still exists at all, let alone in sport. :(

Wot Grant said.
We played some stunning football yesterday in our 6-0 home win against Ross County, ironically more in the first half when we only scored one goal, and when it could've easily been six!! The second half was a total non-contest and we simply blew Ross County away. In all honestly, we could've won 12-0... I've never seen a team so comprehensively annihilated!
And in Jeremie Frimpong, Man City have sold us a REAL gem for a bargain price - WHAT a player, and only 18 - a right back who not only made 3 of our goals yesterday, but who's speed, positional awareness and passing accuracy were in the top rank!
If he continues at this level, he'll be a Belgian international before long and another player we'll eventually sell for HUGE money! Massively impressed with this boy:)
Anyway, it's over now to Rangers, who I fully expect today to beat Hearts, and go top again. For me this season, the winner of the league will come down to which team comes out on top of our head to head clashes, which I think will be crucial - providing that is we learn how to play away from home on plastic pitches!
Then midweek, we'll have some very interesting European games to look forward to..... I'm expecting our game against Lazio to be a thriller!
Marco.
yeah it was a good way to reply from losing... we are up v hearts who really need to win, and it wouldnt surprise me if they do
no sooner than i type and hearts are 1 up.. i should be a forecaster
no sooner than i type and hearts are 1 up.. i should be a forecaster
Better forecaster than Marco anyway ! Remember his I fancy Scotland for a point prediction a few weeks ago. Result, Russia 4 Scotland 0. :eyebrows:
Well, I got it right in the first half, when it was 0-0!:D
Marco.
1-1 now.. el bufallo with equalizer.. god knows where we will be if we sell him, which we must sometime alas.
So I see it finished 1-1, and we stay top on goals scored... I guarantee it'll be 'seesaw' like this for the rest of the season, with either one or the other top, and plenty more twists and turns to come!
At least it looks like both Edinburgh teams are capable of giving us a game, so any points won at Easter Road or Tynecastle will have been hard earned. It's why I wasn't too dismayed at us drawing 1-1 with Hibs, as their play that day warranted them getting a point, and neither Celtic or Rangers have a God-given right to win every game, so for me that was fine.
It was our 2-0 defeat at Livingston, particularly the manner of it, which was extremely disappointing! And we also struggled at Killie, on another plastic pitch, although we managed to get the win. For me, however, much like Celtic only deserved a point against Hibs, it was the same for Rangers today against Hearts, as like us at Hibs, they didn't play well enough to take all three points.
Definitely not a disaster though for Rangers, as they're still right in the hunt, and both teams will drop points away from home at other grounds before the season ends. So it's Porto away on Thursday now - that is going to a VERY tough game, as it will be for Celtic against Lazio, and for me these games will show exactly how good both teams *really* are on a bigger stage, out with of the SPL.
Marco.
No comments, chaps?:)
Marco.
Worst weve played tbh. Worse than the celtic game. First 15, we were worse than a 3rd div side.
Still hoping several billy big baws get booted for it.
It happens, mate. We were just as shit, if not worse, against Livi... Sometimes the other team deserves to take something from the game.
One things's for sure, you'll need to be 100 times better against Porto!

Well, once again Tavernier was defensively a liability, and largely responsible for the goal Hearts scored. The Japanese boy Meshino impressed me. He's one I think could cause problems for a number of teams.
But Tavernier, I defo wouldn't play him against Porto, in a game when Rangers are likely to be defending much more than attacking, and mostly on the back foot. If Tavernier plays, I guarantee that Porto will expose his defensive frailties.
Who else have you got available to play in his position?
Marco.

flannagan or polster. tav is captain so will play. gerard is loyal to him and goldston so i expect both to play.
i dont expect anything from porto, so if we get anything it will be a huge bonus. they are one of the high ranked sides and really a cl team
Yeah, I forgot he was captain... Let's hope Gerrard takes him aside and tells him to concentrate on his defensive duties, and if in doubt, boot the ball into 'Row Z', rather than trying anything fancy!
I also agree that Porto are quality, especially on their own patch, although they only beat Young Boys 2-1 there earlier, who I thought were nothing special, so there are still grounds for hope:)
Marco.
They are maybe not the side they were Marco, but still good, with quality all over. They started poor as they are breaking in new players I think.
Would have liked to have got them first tbh.
Good thing re tav is he is a superb outlet for removing pressure and keeping the opposition back fir.mly in his own half.
But is defending can be poor
Good luck lads against Porto! :more::more:
Marco.
Hope they do it. Probably be down to that Russian guy again.... Cant think of his name.. Var somebody ? . Anyway, fire up the 4K ;)
Already done! The Celtic game later against Lazio is on BT Ultimate 4K UHD. Let's hope it's not an ultimate nightmare!
Marco.
You at home?
1-1 half time.. Our goal was apparently a cracker.
Im just in
Yeah, been watching the game since the start. The Rangers goal was *tremendous*, plus Morelos hit the bar with a header just before it, and in the second half had his point-blank header saved by the Porto keeper.
Slack goal to concede to start with. It was a ball given away (misplaced pass) at the edge of the box by Ryan Jack, which is unlike him, and a wonder strike, into the top R/H corner by the Porto boy. However, Rangers are well in it and probably the better team in the second half. Impressive performance so far, so let's hope they can hold on or even get a winner! They'll have to concentrate though and not get sucker-punched late on, as they did against Young Boys.
Helander and Barisic have been superb at the back, so far, and Tav's kept himself out of trouble! So fingers crossed...
Marco.
Yeah ends 1-1. Will take an away point v Porto.

Good result tonight, thought we might have sneaked it with the good second half performance, cheered me after rough couple of weeks. Hope Celtic get a result also.
That was a good shift they put in.
Second in league currently.
Celtic 1 down at half time.
Celts had 6 shots but none on target.. Lazio had 4, 3 on.
More of same second half but better accuracy needed.
2-1 in the end, with a superb 89th winner from Jullien! Ya FUKKIN DANCER!!!!:yay::yay::yay::yay:
Clear at the top now of our group!:clap:
More comment later, once I've calmed down (and dried off) - ma pantz are soakin :D
Marco.
Good win, in typical late goal fashion [emoji3526]
Team played well according to reports
Ok, just some thoughts on last night's games. firstly Porto vs. Rangers.....
I was extremely impressed with Rangers last night, but equally as disappointed by Porto! Yes, they have some very talented players with great technical ability, and the goal Diaz scored was right out of the top drawer. However, I had expected much more from them at home, and for them to be rather more dangerous and creative in attack than they were.
They also gave possession of the ball away rather a lot, which is quite unusual for a Portuguese side, and just didn't threaten the Rangers goal as often as I thought they would've done, being the home side. So yes, Porto do deserve to be one of the competition's top seeds, and don't get me wrong are a good team, but one currently not at the peak of their powers, hence why they're playing in the Europa League this season, and not the CL.
However, one of the reasons that Porto didn't play well is because Rangers didn't allow them to! I thought that Gerrard got his team selection and tactics spot on. and which nullified much of Porto's attacking threat. Rangers scored a goal of the highest calibre with great teamwork that would have graced a Champions League final and were very unlucky not to win, as I thought they were overall the better side.
Morelos was immense and showed what a top goalscoring talent he is on the European stage (not just in the SPL), by giving the Porto defence problems all night. Kent showed his class and that he's going to be a big asset for Rangers in the title race, until he ran out of steam, as he wasn't fully match fit, McGregor pulled off two world-class saves at the end to ensure that Rangers left with a point. Davis was also immense, and in Helander (whom I've always rated), Rangers have now got a truly top-quality centre half.
All in all, it was a magnificent performance from Rangers. Porto will of course be dangerous in the rematch at Ibrox, but I honestly believe that Rangers can beat them at home, and also YB, who in my opinion are the best team in the group. The toughest test for Rangers I feel will be Feyenoord away. Great stuff though, and Gerrard clearly knows how to set up his team to play well in Europe!
As for Celtic vs. Lazio, all the talk beforehand was on how Lazio, for an Italian team, supposedly had a weak defence. Well, aside from the goal they conceded at the end from our corner kick, where Jullien was completely unmarked, if that was a poor Italian defence, I'd hate to see a good one!!
They were extremely well organised, positionally aware and very determined and physical throughout the match, which is why despite playing very well in the first half we found it hard to score, and despite having created many chances. Going forward Lazio carried plenty of threat, but were sometimes guilty of poor finishing. We defo rode our luck at times! Overall though, I was more impressed with them than Porto, although that's taking nothing away from Rangers' performance against them. However for me, Lazio are a better side and undoubtedly the best we've played so far in the group.
Standouts for Celtic were Forster, who is now beginning to deliver his full potential and look like he could win another England cap, if he keeps up this level of performance. His save at the end from Cataldi was verging on inhuman, and simply SPECTACULAR!! Jullien is now looking every inch a £7m central defender, indeed on current form he seems somewhat of a bargain, and was calm and assured all night, mopping up most of the danger Lazio posed, ably assisted by Ajer.
However, man of the match for me was Ryan Christie.... He was simply immense throughout, scoring one and creating the assist, from the corner kick, for Jullien's winner. Aside from his totally out of character 'mishap' against Livi, every time he plays, he makes a big difference to the team. He's just getting better with every game! Another major bargain signing for us in 2015, at a mere £500k from Inverness Caley. Pure 'sweety money'... What price on him now, I wonder??
I think we probably only need another 3 points now to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, and which I think is more than achievable. Lazio away, in the next game, will be very difficult, as they'll be out for revenge, but I think we're capable of getting a point in Rome, ditto with Cluj away, and I feel confident we can beat Rennes at home, so that would equal a total of 12 points. However, we'll see, as there's still lots of football to be played!
However, both Rangers and Celtic did Scottish football proud last night, and also helped improve our co-efficient, but certainly the reputation of the SPL and silenced the doom and gloom merchants who are often so quick to rubbish the standard of the SPL. If Rangers and Celtic keep that up, and indeed continue to improve, then we may be awarded another CL place in the SPL and reduce the amount of qualifying games the winner has to play. It certainly shows, however, that when they both play to their potential, especially at home, that they can compete against top-quality opposition.
Lastly, the funniest moment of the night, which I don't believe anyone's picked up on so far, least of all the match commentators, was a section of the Celtic support holding up a 'Fuck off' banner to the Lazio fans (namely their vile fascist element):
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/923/iFFfld.png
"Vaffanculo", in Italian means 'Fuck off', and yet no-one seemed to bat an eyelid!!:D
Marco.
Oh, and in the EPL, what about Leicester's 0-9 hammering tonight of Southampton, to leapfrog Man City into second place?:eek::wow:
I doubt that Leicester will replicate their title win of 2015/16, as Liverpool and Man City are simply too strong now, but for me they'll defo finish in the top six, and possibly as high up as fourth. It certainly shows that Rodgers is a top manager and that what he achieved with Liverpool, and also Celtic, wasn't a fluke!
Marco.

"Vaffanculo", in Italian means 'Fuck off', and yet no-one seemed to bat an eyelid!![emoji38]:D
Marco.
Ah, I did notice the banner in a pic. I translated it to precisely that.
Yes just saw the leic score. So Soon having a man sent off early didn't help. Will no doubt be the straw that busted the camel.

That was the worst Aberdeen display I’ve seen in years, especially the first half. It was like a training match for Celtic.
I'll comment later once I've watched the game.
However, regardless of anything else Robin, to go from beating Lazio 2-1 on Thursday night, with the type of game it was [winning in the last couple of minutes] and how much it would've taken out of the players mentally, to going up to Pittodrie, less than 48 hours later, and producing that type of performance/result against an in-form Aberdeen team, still buzzing from their 3-0 win against Motherwell, is excellent, and also the form of champions!

It’s a great result for Celtic, that’s not in doubt. I am just agreeing with a very embarrassed Aberdeen manager.
Fair enough, and I'll comment more after the game, but I'm sorry, no matter how much you guys are 'joking', I'm not buying the 'Aberdeen automatically lie down to Celtic, as they hate Rangers', pish. Because that's what it is.
Today's game aside, as I haven't watched it yet, anytime we've beaten Aberdeen in the past, it's simply because we earned the right. Nothing else.
Marco.

;):lolsign: no team lies down; its not in the mentality, but they usually try harder v their biggest enemy; that is only natural. We are Aberdeen's enemy no1.. the fact they want to be our greatest enemy shows how far up themselves they get over pish Like that.... all because a Gers player sued one of theirs for a career theatening tackle.... and that is the only reason
Gers got the goal they deserved.. The big swede, Helander..
The old trouble tho. Gotta go a goal down before they start playing well. It doesn't win you titles

Good result, not seem the game though.
Helander to the rescue! Told ya he was quality;)
Seriously though, those types of late wins, home or away, ably demonstrates that Rangers have the determination and mental toughness to really challenge us this season. Like I said before, the head to head clashes between the two teams will be crucial, and I believe will ultimately decide who will finish as champions!
Just back from the flicks watching the new Terminator movie, which incidentally was FAB! Now watching the rest of the Celtic game... Bloody hell, just HOW GOOD was our third goal...??:eek::wow:
Marco.
Having watched the game now I think that Derek McInnes summed it up best on BBC Sport:
"We shipped four awful goals. The incisiveness and the speed of Celtic unnerved our players. The only way to combat that is by getting closer and showing no fear. During the game we were miles away."
Yes Aberdeen were poor, but they didn't not try or simply capitulate. I think too many folks, including crucially the Aberdeen players, bought into the notion that Celtic wouldn't be at their best, and a little lacklustre, after their midweek exertions in Europe [based on recent poor results in the league after such games], and simply were taken aback by how ruthless they were instead.
Celtic came out of the traps flying, and sought to kill the game off quickly, knowing that they would probably tire in the second half, and Aberdeen just had no answer to the speed and incisiveness of their play. And once Aberdeen were 4-0 down there was no chance for a 'Plan B'... The second half was indeed like a 'training exercise' for Celtic, and a total non-event, but that was simply because the game was done and dusted by then!
So yes, Aberdeen were poor, but Celtic were scintillatingly sensational, utterly ruthless, and just blew Aberdeen away!

A good display tonight, in total control of the game.
Yeah, good results last night for both teams. I knew it wouldn't be a goal-fest against St Mirren, as they don't concede many... Still, I'll take two goals, a clean sheet, and most importantly the three points:)
Yes, there's no change at the top, save the fact that we're now only top by one goal...;)
But as I said, that's how it's going to go for the rest of the season - both teams will drop the odd few points here and there, and/or score more goals against the opposition in one game than the other, so will regularly trade places at the top of the table, and which is why results in the head to head clashes with both teams will be so significant
For me, in that respect, Rangers will be considered as genuine title challengers if they can beat us in the next game at Celtic Park, and avenge their defeat at Ibrox. Failure to do that, especially if they lose, will for me indicate that they're not quite there yet.
So we shall see - but long may their challenge continue, as it's making the race for the title exciting for a change!

Hopefully this will be a much closer title race as it’s badly needed, but Rangers need to bring their A game to all matches which is not happening. Last night was better but you only need to go back to the first half against Hearts for a poor performance.
I agree, although to be fair they've produced their A-game, or done well, most times this season. The only games for me where they didn't was against Celtic and Hearts, where their form dipped below acceptable standards for a Rangers team. In all other games though, especially in Europe, they've done pretty well and been consistent.
However, attempting as to take off my 'green-tinted specs', and look at things as unbiased as possible, I still think that man for man we have the best starting 11 (and stronger squad), and when we play to our full potential are the better team... But that doesn't mean we'll win the league!

That shocks me... Well, I'd have to completely disagree, and in that respect the league table doesn't lie! Hearts have been on a steady decline for the last year (since they led the table at the beginning of last season), and out with of their cup exploits have been shocking. Levein must have one of the worst win ratios of any Hearts manager, and his team are simply the product of his negative, defensive tactics.
He's a rather dour man, who's built an even more dour (and unsuccessful) team, just like he did as Scotland manager, and so fully deserved to go!
Marco.
Just think they are a side lacking confidence and have had a lot of injuries to key players.
I'm no fan of them or him but it's not always the manager.

I would be surprised if Hearts were relegated, will interesting to see who they appoint.
Sure, but they should be challenging Aberdeen for third spot, never mind fighting relegation! Hearts simply MUST have much higher ambitions.
George Burley had them playing some of the best football I've seen them produce since Alex MacDonald was manager, so *those* are the standards Hearts should be striving for, and to challenge Aberdeen as being the third biggest force in Scottish football, not the mind-numbing mediocre pap they're producing now, as abject failures!

Interesting that both Edinburgh clubs are struggling at the same time, They should be both be competing at the other end of the table, both teams have some good players.
Both have decent budgets, and hearts have a budgie too
Other teams have certainly done more with less. They could both go if not careful.
Hearts would be bust without all the direct debits.
Hibs too have been losing money.
Just think they are a side lacking confidence and have had a lot of injuries to key players.

I agree about the players and injuries, but Levein's teams have always been dour and defensive, and that's solely down to HIS direction and tactics. Regardless of the injury situation, he should've produced better results with the players he's got.
Look what Motherwell and Kilmarnock are doing, with much smaller budgets and infrastructures than Hearts. *That* is where Hearts need to take their inspiration. As I said, the stats don't lie - and I don't just mean for this season, but since Levein became Hearts manager (with a team full of fit players), and which if examined I'm sure would illustrate one of the poorest win ratios of any Hearts manager.
He was also just as bad with Scotland!
Marco.
That'll do...
I'll comment more later, but it was a fantastic match to watch and seven-goal thriller! Could've been much more too, as we hit the woodwork twice and had a stonewall penalty missed by the ref.
Over to Rangers now to pump Hearts,, which I've no doubt they'll do. It's at Hampden this time, not Tynecastle, which will make a big difference, even with Hearts arguably being 'buoyed' by Levein's departure. Therefore I'd expect Rangers to win similarly emphatically tomorrow.
Marco.
Oh, and just a shout out too for the superb Sadio Mané, who's last-gasp (94th minute) winner, away at Villa, keeps Liverpool top of the EPL by six points!:yay:
*That*, muchachos, is title-winning stuff!! Man City also did well to come back from 0-1 down at home to Southampton, and win 2-1, but for me Liverpool's epic away win is the more significant, and the two points subsequently gained I feel will be crucial come the end of the season.

Yes well done to Celtic and plus 1 for what Grant said.
Cheers, guys. Hibs are one of our bogey teams, along with Livingston, so I knew we'd have to work hard and play well to win, which thankfully we did. For tomorrow, I'll go 4-1 Rangers:)
Marco.
No predictions here. If we play how we can we will win OK. At our very best we are very good.
But, we are still very inclined to start poorly and have off games. The players are still novices in general and need time and belief to go to next stage

I think that's a very good point, but it will come. Celtic have a team full of winners, who've been over the course many times and hoovering up all the prizes, domestically, for years - so know what it takes to win. In saying that though, Celtic are just as prone to having off-games and dropping points, as demonstrated already in the league against Hibs and Livi.
The good thing, from a Rangers perspective, is that there's been significant and continued improvement since Gerrard took over, both at home and especially in Europe. So it augurs well for the present and also the future, for as long as he's here. All that's missing is a trophy, which I'm certain he'll deliver this year. No way will we be winning another treble.
My gut says we'll clinch the title (but it'll have been very hard-fought), but Rangers will win one of the cups and run us close for the other.
Marco.
Manager is green too, and shouldn't be forgotten. He is learning fast but it's a steep and windy path.
We as a club can't expect to get the draw and exposure of a Gérard figure with the experience. If he had that he wouldn't be here as we wouldn't afford him. He'd be at a huge club in the epl.
Until then we are lucky to have his draw and his passion.
An awful lot of the players that we got only came due to the Gérard factor. He has already incresed turnover by 60% and it will get even better.
We also have a lot of assets now who will make club big money in future.
Our youth system is one of best in Europe and players will be appearing soon, hopefully and will also hopefully move on for money.

Villa caused us a few problems last week, so it was no surprise that they caused problems for Liverpool today.
Southampton today were organised and disciplined, and with the height of their squad (have you seen how big Vestergaard is?) they repeatedly intercepted every high cross into the area.
City's goals came late, and both were scored with the ball being delivered close to the ground.
'Twas a frustrating afternoon.

Yeah, I agree with all of that. However, the bit in bold is purely and simply because of the 10-in-a-row thing, and Rangers fans being *desperate* to stop Celtic from winning it! Had that not been the case, and say Celtic were simply challenging for their second or third title in a row, the pressure would've been considerably reduced, and desire for such "miracles" to happen, also reduced accordingly.
Anyway, in terms of our cup game tonight against Hibs, the standouts from back to front, were Frimpong, who for such a young kid was once again excellent, showing that he can also defend as well as attack, and his pace is just frightening! I can't see him being outrun in many challenges for the ball, even when the opposing player has a couple of yards head start, and his trickery, confidence and skill on the ball is just a joy to watch. He also proved tonight that he can handle the pressure of playing in big games.
Jullien once again was magnificent and rarely gave the ball away or lost a challenge. He's going to be a massive player for us not only this season, but in the ones to come. I think he is the best central defender we've had since Van Dijk, and for me not far off his level when he was at Celtic, and set to get better with the more games he plays. McGregor and Rogic ran the show in midfield, ably assisted by the magnificent Broony, who was all over the park, nullifying the threat from Hibs and setting up counter attacks, plus he scored two great goals. Quite simply, he continues to defy his age and looks as fit and hungry to win as ever!!
Up front, Forrest was superb, very creative and dangerous as usual, and Edouard was his usual class self, and although he didn't manage to score, was responsible for creating the space that allowed Elyounoussi to have such a devastating impact on the game. He scored two goals, but could've easily had five, and the level of his play and trickery on the ball was simply scintillating. If he keeps playing to this standard and continues to improve, I think that we could've found ourselves the new Lubo Moravcik... Yes, this boy is potentially *that* good and a very exciting prospect indeed!!
And with Elyounoussi on this form. it's going to be very difficult now for Mikey Johnston, who himself is a superb and very talented young player, to get back into the team. It's a nice 'problem' for Lennon to have, though...;)
Marco.
P.S I'd love to see Gordon Strachan get the Hearts job!

Yup, but you still found a way to win! So that's a good sign. Should be an intriguing encounter next Sunday at Anfield... For me, you have to win or draw that one to stay in the race, as I couldn't see this Liverpool team throwing away a nine point lead, even at this stage of the season...

*Trust me*, guys... Rangers will win at least one trophy this season - I'm utterly certain! Rarely are my gut feelings like that wrong. Success comes in cycles, and Rangers will begin theirs again sooner rather than later - it's all good, as we can't keep on winning everything forever:)
Marco.
Returning to the EPL, I see that Leicester's 0-2 win at Crystal Palace has now moved them to within two points of Man City... The Brendan Rodgers bandwagon rolls on!;)
Marco.
Yup, he is a good manager and thrives on better players etc.
Top 5 would be a great achievement.
Indeed... When you consider the budget he'll have to spend on players, compared with that of Man City, Liverpool, or struggling Man Utd! For me, he'd be the man to restore the glory days to the latter, or at least turn them into title contenders again.
And if he guides Leicester to fifth place this season, which I think is entirely possible, perhaps even fourth, and thus into the Champions League, and has some good cup runs, the Man Utd job would be a logical progression to the next level, as I don't think Solskjær is the long-term solution.
Plus, if Hearts are genuinely serious about getting back to where they belong, Budge should appoint Gordon Strachan as manager, and give him a decent budget [no pun intended;)] to spend on players. That done, I guarantee they'd soon be back up challenging at the other end of the table!
Steve Robinson, the current bookies favourite, is a very good young manager, but for me not the right man for Hearts, at this moment in time. They need someone who would really raise their profile, is used to winning trophies and would attract players that Robinson couldn't, who's more about bringing young players through. That policy takes time to bear fruit, and time is currently not on the side of Hearts.
Marco.

I don’t think it will be Strachan, Robbie Neilson is a possibility but there are lots of mangers/coaches available. It all depends on how ambitious Hearts are feeling. As was shown by Steve Clarke your stock can rise if you’re willing to take the risk and come to Scotland.

Me too. He was a superb player and a clever manager. He did superbly with Celtic.
The only thing is, if he does get appointed as manager, is that his Hearts teams would defo take points off of Rangers and Celtic, so it would make things harder for us, but you've got to put that aside and want to increase the standard of the SPL and the teams there capable of giving Celtic and Rangers a better challenge, as that improves us as well as the rest of the league.
That's why I was pleased when Gerrard became the Rangers manager. I knew he could be potentially a big thorn in our side, but also a huge asset to Scottish football, and that it would ensure we can't rest on our laurels!
Marco.
Btw, just for reference, here are Levein's stats, since he became Hearts manager:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/921/AqNp8v.png
...as I thought, pretty pish!
However, here's the thing... Would he have made it more difficult for Rangers to have won that match on Sunday, or possibly even had a chance of holding Rangers to a draw and taking the game to extra-time, and even penalties (and then of course anything could've happened)...?
In my view yes, simply because Levein's record in cup competitions is FAR better than his league one, and actually rather good! So for me, he should've been left in charge of the team for the cup semi-final, instead of that useless long-haired balloon, who posed as the caretaker manager, and I'm confident that the result would've been different.
Hearts would probably still have been beaten by Rangers, but in my view, not in the hapless manner that transpired!
Thoughts?:)

Thoughts?:)
Marco.
Ah, well here we have the IF coming in:eek: He might have got whacked 6-0 too;)
Hearts were either less than proactive or we were just more up for it. Either way the guy who is there wont get the gig, thats for most likely...although tbh whoever get it, their job will be to beat the other 9 sides regularly, and give top 2 a game as much as they can.
The 2 Glasgow sides playing resources are way above rest of the league, and why no other team could really stretch celtic when gers were down the divisions and broke. Celtic were basically just turning up at times..
They know they are in a competition now so will bring best out of them.. you can see that in the Euro results of both sides
Well, for most of the first half Rangers looked rather lacklustre. It was only when Helander scored, just before the break (think it was in the 46th minute), that they sparked into life. and then Hearts simply had no answer...
However, for the first 45 mins, Rangers huffed and puffed, so for me that wasn't a sign of being "up for it". They certainly didn't come flying out of the traps like Celtic did against Hibs... That's why I think if Levein had still been in charge of the team, he could've made it as difficult for Rangers as he did in the league game against them at Tynecastle, and possibly taken the game to extra-time and pens.
And to answer your question about what would've happened had Hearts been pumped 6-0 instead, with Levein still as the manager? Well, you simply would've sacked him then, and nothing would've been lost! Quite simply, there's no way that 'shuey MacPhee' could've done better, as he's simply not a first-team manager. It would've been a different ball game had Hearts appointed their new permanent manager before the game.
That's my view anyway, and why I think Hearts got it wrong by sacking Levein before the semi-final.
Marco.

Ha - or maybe she's hanging out to create history and sign the SPL's first ever female manager, as I hear she's fond of a bit of 'fur'?:eyebrows:
Marco.
Plenty decent managers in England looking for a big profile club.... then there are others who will work anywhere:ner:
Jack Ross is a good fit(was last at Sunderland). Roy Keane was mentioned too
I see the Hibs manager is gone now too, which I guess was inevitable: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49789618
If Strachan still has the hunger to be a club manager, then he simply *has* to take that job, as I believe he's a big Hibs fan!

Yup, grew up a hibs fan didnt he.. its certainly made for him, more so than the jam tarts. May already be agreed, and doing it before he goes to hearts.
Hearts could do worse than grab the old hibs manager;)

Really really poor first half performance
Yup, still wildly inconsistent. Manager is still too inflexible too until its too late.
A lack nous
Better a quick 2 goals and we have clear air
2-0 it ends.. El buffalo and Steve Davis.
4points from Porto is pretty good going. They are highly rated in Europe. The buff has put another few mil on his own head

World class goal by the Buff, which changed the game, Rangers in control from then unlike earlier in the game.
Yeah, Celtic also secured a superb 1-2 away win over Lazio, and the first time we've won in Italy!:yay:
Beating a top Serie A team home and away is no mean feat... That's us qualified now for the knockout stages, with two games still to go, and which are now only relevant in terms of deciding if we win the group or not:)
Well done to Rangers - again beating a team like Porto is a superb achievement, and both of our results are great for Scottish football:cool:

The co-efficient is now up to 16th and very close to the "golden" 15th place where we get much better treatment
I know... That's why we both need to keep winning!
The incentives are there: one less CL qualifying round to play, along with an extra CL place to start with. In that respect, it would be great if we were both in the CL next season, as league winners and runners up respectively:cool:
Marco.
Next round of the spl dogfight today.. rangers at hammerthrowers livy;) and celts at home to Well. I loved Livy manager saying his player gave Aribo 20 stitches using his shoulder:lol:
looks like an elbow https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EI-CrblXkAAdI5W?format=jpg&name=small
we had 3 head injuries that day... The guy never even got it upgraded to red which shows something about the compliance officer.
Yup, nightmare... Let's hope both games today are cleanly and fairly fought. Livi away is never easy, but I fancy you to win that one. We'll also be in for a tough game against Motherwell. They made you work for your win at Ibrox, and I suspect it'll be the same for us at Celtic Park.
Game of the day though, in the UK, is Liverpool vs Man City. If City lose that one, IMO they can kiss goodbye to the title! Should be a cracker though, and I except City to get at least a point. Much like in old firm derbies, the team who needs to win most, and is most up for it, usually does:)
I'll be watching that one later.
Marco.
fancy city myself. liverpool have not been on form
Well Liverpool streets ahead now. 3-0 mow so looks like their league to lose now, even this early.
Up here both halves of the firm won 2-0to keep league as it was.
And big well done to gers U18's for beating Celts 5-0 in the cup.
Gers are currently the holders

Good result today, on the plastic pitch, far better team by a mile.
Yup, great result for Rangers away at Livi on that horrible excuse of a 'pitch' - far better than we achieved there!
And with us also winning 2-0 against Motherwell, it's 'as you were' at the top... I'll comment on the Liverpool game when its over!!
Marco.
YASSSSS...!! 3-1 :yay::yay:
[Sorry, Chris:o]
That's Liverpool nine points clear now at the top, so they can really only throw it away. However, there's still a lot of football left to be played, so I wont be writing off City yet!

I was expecting something like that from half time on Wednesday night.
I'd have been happier if Walker had played in goal today.
So much with VAR pointing out clear and obvious, because we should have had a penalty early doors.
It appears the Premier League are changing the rules on handball on a special case basis.
26 games left to go.

I completely agree. No idea why it wasn't given. Got to say that the introduction of VAR, so far, has been a bit of a mixed blessing!

VAR is a joke.
OK, TAA's arm is not in an abnormal position but it clearly stops the ball going across the box. However, it looked to me like it came of a City hand too before it broke to TAA.
I was wondering what would happen if a goal came at that point, whether they'd have the balls to overturn it for a Pen and obviously they didn't.
Have to say, Raheem Sterlings attitude and behaviour wouldn't have looked out of place in an infant school. Looked very much like Peps on the touchline.
Overall, I think the result was right. Apart from the opening 10mins and last 10, Man City were 2nd best.
12 games in a people are suggesting the league is over. As a Liverpool fan, I'd live it to be but I expect we'll drop point over Christmas and the league is never won untill the math says so.
It's not over but it's there's to lose with that lead.
If City were in that position most would say its over.
There will be dropped points and loss of form, but that can happen to all teams.

great result for Rangers U21 team beating wrexham team 2-0 at ibrox stadium. decent crowd too i believe..well done the lads

it was yes. Wrexham brought up abot 1100 or so supporters for game. lads as young as 17 in many cases plus 2 overage players.
Cool, if it'd been in Wrexham I might have gone along to watch (they always advertise their upcoming games on a large billboard at the ground).

Decent second half performance from Scotland tonight.
Yup, good result and excellent second-half performance. John McGinn was outstanding, as was Ryan Christie.
We're starting to see the best of Clarke now, and build a decent team. Remember we were far from at full strength tonight, and with the likes of Tierney, Robertson, McTominay and Snodgrass not playing, there's still plenty of room for improvement, particularly if we can get Leigh Griffiths back in a Scotland shirt [in a Celtic one first], before the playoffs in March!
Pleased that Wales have now also qualified:)

Yes good that Wales have qualified, and hopefully there will be no call offs for Scotland in March.
That'll do.... Apparently, Frimpong was superb yet again! And Griffiths made his comeback and played for 25 mins, so that's good news for us as we've been light up front. Edouard can't do it all on his own. Good news for Scotland, too!:)
Now it's over to Rangers to pump Hamiliton tomorrow by six goals or more to go top!:D

Unlikely. Morelos is absent. Stuck in Columbia AFAIK.
So we will have to fall back on our reserve striker. Hope he is up to it.. Defoe is his name

Good win for Norwich today - 0-2 at Everton. Lifts us off the bottom and get's us a bit closer to getting out of the relegation zone. Sounded like Everton were defending terribly, but we'll take our first away win of the season and the 3 points any way they come! :)

Chelsea played very well today - it's not often we see the opposition controlling the game for large periods at ours, but it happened today.
An eventual 2-1 win to City doesn't tell you the half of it.
It was an entertaining game.
It was nice to see Frank Lampard acknowledging the home supporters at the end of the game - he made a great impression on us in his last Premier League season, and the respect and admiration goes both ways.
The Premier League have made a right old fucking mess of VAR, and haven't got the grace to admit it.
Sterling was denied a goal because his armpit was a couple of millimetres offside.
You can't dream this shit up, and the depth of it gets deeper each week.
Clear and obvious is the instruction, so they pull up for something the linesman wouldn't call on if he was in the absolute perfect position
Saw highlights of the game yesterday, Chris - sounds like it was a good one! Good result for you guys too, coming from 1-0 down. Mahrez's goal was superb! Aguero off the bar, too:)
That was really a must-win match for you, as Liverpool being 12 points ahead, even at this time of the season really would've been Goodnight Vienna. Firmino secured a late win at Palace for Liverpool, who also came from behind to win. The difference though is that Liverpool can afford a slip-up, but the pressure is on you guys now to win *every* game for the rest of the season.
Yup, I agree that VAR is being made a hash of. The technology is great, but it's not being utilised properly, with officials being too pernickety and not using common sense. On by the way, thanks for the great present you've given us with Jeremie Frimpong!
The boy's a SENSATION:eek::eek: £300k? No idea how that pittance valuation was arrived at, but I can tell you, he's going to be a star, whom I suspect will go on to become a full Belgian international and be worth a fortune. The sky's the limit for this kid, as he's got everything:cool:
Alex, a much needed win for The Canaries - long may it continue matey, as I'd love to see your team stay up!
A shout out too for Brendan Rodgers and Leicester, who are a point above Man City - a phenomenal achievement for a team like them (on their budget), which ably shows BR's credentials as a top manager. You wonder though how they'll cope if Vardy gets injured, as he's defo their main man.
Marco.
I see that Gers beat Hamilton 1-3, which is a good result. I watched the game though, and Rangers were pretty poor throughout, largely saved by the quality of Kent. He's now starting to look like the player he was before, which is good news for Rangers, as he'll be a crucial player both at home and in Europe.
However, could someone tell me why Morelos didn't play from the start? I thought he was stuck in Columbia? He came off the bench in the second-half, so what I don't understand is if he was there, then why didn't he start?
Marco.

It was a poor performance especially the second half, Morelos was stuck in New Jersey and only returned yesterday, not sure how Thor what the circumstances stances were. Defoe looked a bit off the pace and we really need Davis pulling the strings but all said and done 3 points.
Indeed, but surely if he was fit enough to be on the bench, he was fit enough to play - at least for 45 mins? He couldn't have been *that* jet-lagged. Bizarre one for me, when you're looking to score as many goals as possible, in order to knock us off the top.
Marco.
Think it was a relatively decent result although they have played better.
Alf only got Back recently so was tired. Gave him 10 mins to stretch his legs.
One of our young lads on bench as well.
A long way to go and points are most important. Goals will come hopefully again.
Celtic are going well at moment but it's possible for them to have an off day too
Alf only got Back recently so was tired.
Lol - might be true, but if so I always laugh at that kinda shit. Young men (athletes, to boot) in their prime, 'tired' after a flight in a plane... Come on!
He should've been BUSTING A GUT to play and score the goals that could've helped his team top the table!! Heaven help him being 'tired' if he actually had to work for a living.

Sports science is king - it's at the core of what City do.
You play City you're not playing 11 men on the pitch - you're up against all the support staff, and they outnumber the players.

Nobody won a title in November, and Liverpool have history weighing them down, just as City are allegedly not a great team for not having won the Champions League.
The latter is utter bollocks.
The former not so much so.
Seeing David Silva being subbed off injured, and Sergio Aguero being subbed off injured does not bode well, but we take each game as it comes.
The upside of Silva not playing is Foden gets game time, and the kid needs game time to grow and flourish.
He has to flourish, because Silva is off in the summer.
I wouldn't say that City aren't a great team for not having won the CL... *BUT* for a team who've spent the huge amount of money that they have, they're expected to win it - and should've won it by now, just as Liverpool have now on quite a few occasions;)
Like it or not, you won't be officially recognised as a 'great team', in certain circles, until you get that monkey off your back.... And the same also applies to Liverpool, in terms of winning the EPL.
However, I think that when Liverpool eventually do it, and win the title (and that will happen sooner rather than later), it'll be the first of many!
Marco.

The certain circles can fuck off and get over themselves - they spout shit about prioritising certain competitions, and at the end of the day it's just that, shit!
It would be nice to win the Champions League, but City want to win it all, and nothing takes precedence.
One thing is certain, and that is that we'll fight to hang in there until the end, and that's the way it should be.
Liverpool haven't had what it takes to lift a domestic title for the last 29 years.
Came close last year (for that matter, they came close under Rodgers a few years back), and maybe they can pull it in this time around, but there is the millstone weight of expectation hanging around their collective necks, and it gets heavier each season.
Thankfully for Liverpool, they won the consolation prize of pulling in another Champions League trophy last season.
And that's all it is to Liverpool - a consolation prize.
They pray to lift the domestic title, and as current holders it's City's job to try and deny them that privilege.
Just as it should be.

Don't disagree with much of that [and you've missed what I said about Liverpool in my last post, 723], save the fact that ALL the truly best teams in the world have won the CL, and Man City also need to win it, in order to join that elite group.

Not spending his way out of it.
The club will have been guided by Pep as to who he's interested in, and who he thinks might fit in, but they won't be held to ransom over price.
Laporte was shaping up well, and he is now on the long term injured list.
Zinchenko is not fit, and that's a major blow - the lad is nothing if not versatile.
Mendy played yesterday, but in truth he doesn't look anywhere near match fit.
We could have done with Vinnie K staying for another season, because he adds another dimension in team cohesion, whether he plays or not, and nobody has stepped into and filled his boots.

The Champions League revenues are a boost.
What do you think brings in the most money?
Probably the EPL... But I doubt there's a massive amount in it, and in terms of winning the CL, the final amount you earn depends on many factors.
As for your last post, Pep's quite right not to spend his way out of it. As a matter of interest, out of City's first starting 11, presuming all your top players are fit, how many are products of your youth academy?

Why foul kick?
Where's the other side's goalkeeper?
I can't see one [unless he's really far up the pitch], so looks like he's scored into an empty goal.

He went up for a corner.
He's the one running back wearing the yellow shirt
Yeah I see him now... Hadn't enlarged the screen and just glanced at it before. His fault then for abandoning his goal!;)
Marco.

The keeper was credited with scoring at 90+4 minutes, making his side win 3-1.
The keeper (yellow shirt) going up was a last ditch attempt to get something from the game.
Yeah I get that - and he paid the price!:D
Marco.
Seem to remember Schmichael ( Utd ) was famous for doing that !
