For me, there's defo something in it, and I'd welcome the move. As I've always said, the more we have to work harder to stay on top, the better we'll be, and a strong as possible Rangers facilitates that aim.

Plus, bringing more quality players into the SPL would be good for the Scottish game in general.

What are your thoughts tonight, chaps, on the game against Leverkusen?:)

Do you think Rangers will raise their game, as they've done in every other match they've played in Europe this season, or perform as they did against Ross County? Do you think they can win the game and take a lead to Germany, or perhaps even win the tie overall and get through to the quarter finals?

Most intriguingly though for me, which game do you think Gerrard will be prioritising, in terms of importance: tonight's or the one against Celtic on Sunday, and if you think it's the the latter, will that affect the team he picks to play tonight against Bayer?:hmm:

Don't all answer at once!:D

Anyway, I'll be rooting for Rangers. Come on!! :more::more:

Don't think we have much chance of going further tbh. They are a CL side tbh and a top 4 German side. We will do well just to have played the match.
Celtic game will be a toughy after this but if your not up for it then you have to wonder. Alas we also have a lot of injured players which isn't gonna help.
A draw is possible on Sunday.

struth

2-0 now. Shows difference in class, but also attitude. They are much more confident. We are scared of shadows

12-03-2020, 21:38
Well done to big George.
Hagi should have played

Marco
12-03-2020, 21:48
1-2 now...

I'm actually a little disappointed in Leverkusen. Yes, they're very good on the ball and retain a lot of the possession, but they're not as clinical in front of goal as I thought they'd be. Up until the penalty, which I thought was unfortunate, the Germans hadn't really threatened the Rangers goal.

Plus, to me, their goalkeeper looks a little suspect, which Rangers could capitalise on if they put pressure on him. Yes, Leverkusen are the better team and have that bit more class, but on this showing they're not as good as I had thought, and if Rangers can keep it at 1-2 , or even better equalise, then I think they've still got a chance.

Marco.

Marco
12-03-2020, 21:49
Edit... Not at 1-3. Great goal by them. For me, that was unfortunately the killer blow...

Marco
13-03-2020, 10:20
Yup: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51870540

I don't think any of the league seasons in the UK will finish on schedule. All mass gatherings (sporting or otherwise) will be stopped for the time being, as the whole country enters lockdown. Apparently though, in terms of football matches in Scotland, it's to be from Monday, so (so far) Sunday's old firm game is scheduled to go ahead.

That, however, could change.

Good advice - unless it's the *right* pub!;)

Seriously though, I *never* advertise who my team is, no matter where I am [Glasgow certainly], as there are dangerous bigots, on both sides of the Celtic/Rangers divide, all over the world.

Football tops should not be worn by adults unless they are playing the game. As we are staying in Glasgow overnight on Sunday quite happy the game is off.

I see we've finally been crowned champions, as the season has been officially ended: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/52705588

In the circumstances though, it's a somewhat hollow victory, as I'd far rather we'd won it outright by playing the games that were remaining, and also had been given the chance to win the Scottish Cup, and with it another historic treble, but it is what it is....:)

Still, achieving two 9-in-a-rows is a significant feat, and one I don't think will ever be equalled again, by Celtic or Rangers. Anyway, I'll celebrate quietly tonight with a few beers and, like you guys look forward to when we can all enjoy some live football again!

doesnt bother me tbh, as they would most likely win it anyway, although we obviously will never know.. im mure upset at the relegations and the way the spfl have behaved.. it has made me sever my ties with scottish football.

enjoy your celebration mate:)

Marco

Cheers, guys! I'll sink a few frothies tonight. Robin, I get you about the empty stadiums, but it's better than nothing, IMO. And I can't wait for the SPL to start again in whatever form possible, as I've been missing the footy BIG TIME!!

Granty, I hear you, but I also know that when the new season starts, you'll be supporting your team. It's impossible not to, as it's in your blood!:ner:;)

So, what's happening about the Premiership in England - anyone heard when Liverpool will be crowned champions there?

Anyway, you'll no doubt have been pleased with the result?:)

Aye, it was a decent result for us :)

Their keeper, Bernd Leno, was terrific - it could have been a much higher scoreline, but for his efforts
I heard that he was injured and stretchered off yesterday, which is not good news for Arsenal.

Yeah, it's been WAY, WAY too long! I grew up watching Liverpool win virtually everything throughout the 70s and 80s, and marvelled at some of the wonderful teams they had then, populated by world-class Scottish players! That's why I support them:)

One thing's for sure, it won't take them 30 years to win another title - as long as they can keep hold off the Kloppster!:nono:

Next season might be a bit odd, certainly has a chance of maybe producing an odd shaped table. Players who maybe struggle with big crowd expectations may well shine, and others who thrive on it may well look ordinary.
Anyway the pool deserved it, especially after last year's nearly..

the guy mclaughlan... think he is a good keeper at a good age for goallies. has scottish caps and scotland has a habit of producing decent keepers so i think most will be(even if he isnt a big name) and i expect he may just take the gloves off mcgregor, who to me is slowing up a bit. Marco
27-06-2020, 12:10
Indeed, and you'll probably win it back next year, Chris. For me, both Liverpool and City are at a different level from the other title contenders, so as long as their respective managers remain at the helm, I think it'll largely be a two-horse race - or until Brendan Rodgers gets the Man Utd job!:eyebrows:

Indeed, but for me they're not *yet* at the level of the top two, and so might need another season to be genuine challengers. It took Klopp 5 years to turn Liverpool into ones.

It'll be very interesting to see though which club BR manages once he's done all he can at Leicester. As much as I hated what he did in the end to Celtic, he's clearly a very talented manager, as notwithstanding what he achieved in Glasgow, he took Liverpool to within a whisker of winning the EPL, and look what he's done now at Leicester, on a fraction of the budget available to Pep!

Man Utd, for me, would be the perfect fit, and they're badly in need of bringing back the glory days, which for me is beyond Solskjær.

Looks like Joe Hart's on his way to replace Craig Gordon... https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/joe-hart-celtic-talks-continue-22267818

Getting on now, but he's a quality keeper. I'd be happy with that, as long as we can keep hold of Forster. which won't be easy. Might well take £10m.

Marco.

Marco
29-06-2020, 11:40
I know where you're coming from, but I think he'd thrive at a club like Celtic, especially in a potentially historical season like this, and Lennon (a very good judge of a player) clearly thinks he can still do a job, so if he joins, I predict he'll do well:)

Marco.

struth

rmcin626
02-07-2020, 20:56
From a totally unbiased point of view, I hope Celtic give Hart a chance to prove himself.

Marco
02-07-2020, 21:14
Yeah, I totally get where Pete's coming from, but I'm with you Robin (although maybe you're just saying that, hoping that he'll be a flop:eyebrows:), I've just got a feeling about Hart. For me, he's a great keeper who's just lost his way [for various reasons} and so needs a new challenge to reignite his career!

And perhaps playing for an iconic club, like Celtic, in a potentially historic season such as this, in front of 60,000 fans (once things return to normal) every other week, along with Champions League football, and the chance to win some trophies, and perhaps have his name written into the history books (should we get the 10), is just the fresh new challenge he needs.

He'll also be working with a very good goalkeeping coach in Stevie Woods, who has a proven track record in restoring the confidence of keepers who've lost their way a little, and getting the most out of them, so that will help, as will being part of a back four at home, which is rarely under pressure, as Celtic dominate most home games, and many away ones, too.

So.... In short, if Celtic do sign Hart, I predict he'll do well!

As an aside, it also looks like David Marshall [current Scotland goalkeeper] is also coming in (as we need two keepers), and he's top notch, so if that happens we'll have plenty of quality between the sticks, even if (as seems likely) Forster is staying at Southampton.

For me now, if we can keep hold of Edouard, which seems likely, and sign another centre half (as cover for Julien or Ajer), and another winger in Forrest's position, to keep him on his toes, then we'll be good to go!

Marco.

Marco
02-07-2020, 21:16
Anyway, let's have a shout out for Man City, who've just thumped Liverpool 4-0 at the Etihad... Pressure's off, I guess, but no doubt Chris will be happy!

Anyway, the euro places are still up for grabs as are 2 relegation spots so plenty to play for

Stratmangler
02-07-2020, 22:34
On Joe Hart - Joe was an important part of what went on with City, and I was there at his final appearance.
There is much love and respect from these quarters.

A couple of things he never sorted out - free kicks he kinda settled into position with his palms on his knees, with feet firmly planted on the ground. You ain't gonna stop anything coming at you with speed if you're firmly planted, and second, hit it hard and low to his left and he won't get near it, cos he ain't quick enough.
That planting himself is a major problem.

On tonight's result - I didn't expect anything less.

What tonight's game highlighted for me was (a) how much I miss going to home games, and (b) how flat things are without supporters. Last season The Etihad was explosive for this fixture.

Unlike some others, I don't remember him for being part of the 1966 thing, or his Leeds Utd days, which were before my time, but the SUPERB Republic of Ireland side he took to the quarter finals of the World Cup in 1990, with Celtic's Pat Bonnar in goals!

What a team that was, and a truly incredible achievement for a team like R.O.I - and which I doubt will ever be repeated! Major respect, big man, and RIP.

Marco.

I knew there was a good reason I upgraded my Virgin TV package to include (for free) access to the Premier Sports channels...

See here: https://www.premiersports.com/football/celtic

:yay::yay:

Although, I'm not looking forward to seeing how many goals PSG will pump us by!

Well, Canaries relegated which is no surprise but disappointed with the lack of passion since the comeback from lockdown. When virtually every other team in the league has a player worth more than your entire squad it is always going to be mission impossible but I would have liked them to have shown a bit more of a fight. Oh well, should be used to it now, Norwich take the title for most relegated team from the Premier League ever (fifth time) but I suppose the flip side of that is that based on historical evidence we can get back up there again.

Just stumbled across 'Match of the Day'. Now I have not the slightest interest in football, but was fascinated to see the game was being played in an empty stadium, yet a 'crowd' soundtrack was being used, presumably to make the experience more realistic to the TV viewers

As I obviously do have an interest in audio, I would be curious to know if the soundtrack is synthesised, as the 'crowd' noise got louder and more excited as one side or the other gained an advantage. I cannot see how this could be done with a recording.

Something to discuss at half time?
