Mod your Beresford 7520

For me the OPA2132 had to go, hated the bleeding thing in all honesty but at least I gave it a go, compare this dac with OPA2132 against the Sabre dac tells me straight away somethings not right

Just remember LM4562 cannot drive capacitive loads very well, 16% over shoot into 100pf, some cables etc can be higher than average capacitance

Hi guys, particularly Jerry,
Just spun JMJ Oxygene CD and it sounds bloody good to me. There is definitely more bass there than I remember and it might be just a tad too much if I played lots of similar bass line stuff continuously, but at the moment I think I can probably live with it and maintain a smile on my face. Certainly nothing like as boomy as the Streisand CD. I guess this means I'm not looking for any more bass at the moment so snipping CLP(?) 5 and 6 may not get done.
Don't tell Marco 'cos he'll insist that my Techie is not set up properly but, based on what I've just heard I prefer the CD version of Oxygene to my LP version, which says a lot for the Caimanised 7520 + 2 x OPA2132s (and Mike Homar's co-ax cable - mustn't forget that by jove!!)

I've just turned down the volume a little, 'cos it was a bit too loud, and the bass has fallen back in line - nice one - happy bunny I am, very! Soundstage width and depth as good as I've heard it on my set up.

Your best listening to your favourite J.M.Jarre as a test Dave. There will always be CD's that grate on your nerves because of poor recording techniques. In my case I can't play X & Y by Coldplay because of sibilence.

I love J.M.Jarre, been to see him live a few times too, got to admit though his music usually sounds good on anything

I normally like to use a range of stuff for testing

In my opinion snipping MCL5/6 does not increase bass but makes it better controlled. As I have mentioned before my system can very easily become boomy. I dont seem to experience this, even with 2132's installed since doing this mod. Ask around but I think its a worthwile upgrade.

Thanks for your input and support for JMJ - after the last time I mentioned his name on the forum I thought I might be the only guy here that appreciated him - welcome to the club (of two !!).
Don't know whether you've read the earlier posts (forgive me if you have) but Jerry suggested listening to JMJ 'cos he knows I'm very familiar with how it should sound as I had mentioned that my set up appeared to have developed a boomy bass when playing Streisand's new CD. I now know the CD is faultier than my set up.

In my opinion snipping MCL5/6 does not increase bass but makes it better controlled. As I have mentioned before my system can very easily become boomy. I dont seem to experience this, even with 2132's installed since doing this mod. Ask around but I think its a worthwile upgrade.

Thanks for that - when I posted it I actually wondered whether my memory was playing tricks on me, but I was too idle to check back through the posts . In view of what you've said I'll maybe reconsider the MCL5/6 'vasectomy' but not until I've got a good grasp on what the 7520 gives me currently.

Well the Sabre is the pinnacle I suppose, so its good to have it used as a comparison.Would a factor why three of use like the 2132 so much be that we all have Mikes cables?
Looking forward to finding out if there is any more good op-amps to try. Have you considered any of the discrete ones?

The cable you use on the analogue output will have an affect on how the opamp performs. There are loads of others to try if you like the 2132 then try the 2604... I have a list somewhere that Leo sent me ages ago, I'll see if I can find it tomorrow.
