I had a little play with some DSD files last night. Another thing that I expected not to be able to play having tried them a while ago and got nothing but noise, but now they're playing, the odd little glitch here and there but that's probably a buffering rather than a processing issue. I have a couple of the old Peter Gabriel era Genesis albums in DSD that I've never been able to play before and they've come as something of a revelation. I was comparing 'Firth of Fifth' from Selling England by the Pound, one of my favourite tracks with the best version I ever managed to find on CD, and even though the CD is very good, the DSD file shows it up to have been mastered hot and the piano sounds mechanical in comparison to the effortless natural sounding rendition the DSD gives you. Fantastic!
Of course this has opened up a whole new (very expensive) avenue![]()

I've not tried any DSD yet... might have to get some.

I have set it to use my login details for WHS and I am 100% sure they are correct. I've also enabled the guest account on the WHS and tried using 'guest' as the username with no password and get the same error. I'll try re-writing the image to the memory card tonight and give it another bash.
I quickly had a go with PiCore Player and LMS sees the Pi/iqDAC so I'll connect it to my system tonight and give it a whirl to see if I can get it to play - would be good to be able to compare PiCorePlayer and Volumio.

I don't think you need to enter the name "guest" to connect as a guest. Just leave both fields blank in Volumio.
If you connected to your WHS share from another Windows PC while the "guest account" was enabled for that share and without being prompted for a "user" & "password", then you've not really tested if you can connect to the share with your WHS login details. Have a look at the share properties in WHS to see the list of user that have been granted access.
It would be good for someone to compare LMS/picoreplayer versus Voulmio for SQ.

I'm Gordon.
I've had an unhappy customer email me that they have yet to receive their DAC+
Just to confirm:
- UK post tends to arrive day after posting
- EU post within 10 working days
- USA/CANADA within 10 working days
- AUSTRALIA varies from 10 to 15 working days.
We use Royal Mail tracked / signed for services - this way we can ensure the product gets to where it needs to.
Since we've been doing Pi-DAC only 2 packages have gone awol. One I am sure was received by the customer but I sent a replacement in any case. The other to the UK just got lost and again this was replaced.
If you have concerns then please drop me an email / PM.
To those already enjoying your Pi-DAC+ / Raspberry Pi experience - thanks for all the positive emails you've sent. They are much appreciated.
Best regards,
Gordon

My account on WHS is set up with RW access on all shares, the kids all have accounts that are read only and can only access some of the shares. If I access one of the restricted shares from the kids PC I get prompted to enter a username and password and I can use my username and password to get access so I'm 100% sure I have WHS configured for me to have full access to all shares. As I said, I'll try re-writing the image to see if that makes any difference and I'll try logging in with no username or password to see if it will let me access using the guest account. If I still can't get it to work I'll post some screenshots to see if anyone can see where I've gone wrong.
Anyone any idea why I can't connect using volumio.local and I need to use the ip address?
