I have a Morton Subotnik recording and I happily dismiss it with extreme prejudice. I am not yet at v2.0 where I can enjoy itI went through a phase where I would buy work that was "challenging" - the Subotnick was one such. I have a couple of Stockhausen records; again I'm still trying to 'get into them'!
Other composers have been more successful: Liegeti, Berg and Schoenberg amongst others. Still trying with Webern though.
Mind you, I'm still trying to 'get into' my late father's opera collection.

With reference to my last post - this is, errmm, "interesting", as is the Penderecki - 'The Awakening of Jacob' and 'Anaklasis for String Orchestra and Percussion'.

I've heard some stunningly ugly music in my time but that of Wolfgang Rihm and Harrison Birtwistle takes some beating. I'm certainly not trying to get into it, in fact life will be just spiffy if I never hear their dreadful noise ever again. Oh, and agree about Webern too.
