I know not everyone's cuppa Jerry, just curious if Geoff had ever tried any. I know you'll disagree () but the SHL5's are still my favourite speakers - although the Tannoy Lancasters you used at Scalford in 2011 ran them close!

Did you manage to hear Greg (Nagraboy's) system at Scalford?

To my ears, it sounded stunning, playing a selection of classical music - really very realistic, as one could hear every nuanced scratch and pluck of strings, together with the woody resonance of cellos, almost as clearly as if it were happening in front of you. A friend, who was with me, and I, were in awe!
I get your dislike of Tannoys, but it's difficult to understand what it is you don't like about Harbeths, which are speakers designed to excel with classical music and the accurate reproduction of all acoustic (non-amplified) instruments
Maybe the kit you've heard them with so far just hasn't gelled with them?

Are Harbeths perfect?
No.
Can I hear why some folks love them?
Yes.
For me they lack the verve and intensity of real music.
They do it a lot better than most "BBC Heritage" speakers, most of which I wouldn't give the time of day. God, they are boring once you've gotten over the genuine awe of their flat frequency response. Makes watching paint dry seem a scintillating experience.
.... Spendors, Rogers etc.
Harbeths do do it better, but it's still a bit tedious.
I heard that trait as soon as I went into Greg's room at Scalford. Sorry.
The 'spang' of a plucked note, say, is there (the detail) but not the dynamic verve that drives it (the pizzaz).
Yes, they are detailed. But for me they lack too much of the underlying dynamic drive that brings music to life.
It's just the way I hear it.

I can honestly said there's not much out there that i've listened to that i've not like some aspects of apart from Heresy II,
but i have extreme love for Harbs, especially the SHL5 i had the pleasure of owning once.
