Oh come on Chris - I've just done a quick count since the 21st September and there's been 20 (if I can count correctly ) posts on here, including mine and the two subsequent ones it precipitated. Some contained multiple gig dates but most contained none, just comments. So, in about 80 days there's probably been about 20 gigs to add, give or take, hardly mega time consuming - the biggest job would be setting it up, after that it would be not too onerous, even for some of our Mods .
I will concede that, if it was possible to do in the way I described,it would possibly become more popular, but if a job's worth doing ........ .
Nowt to do wi' me so if you regulars are happy with Skoda when you could have a Porsche who am I to complain? .

WTF's that all about? - bit 'arsh innit? With the use of a smilie I could see it as a bit of a joke but taken as posted it seems to read as, "Don't suggest anything we don't like or you'll be invited to go elsewhere."
I know I'm free to find better forums than AoS without you telling me so . All I was trying to do was to make a suggestion which, if it could be implemented, would improve an aspect of AoS IMO. It's not even a thread I bother to read most of the time but in the spirit of contributing to the forum I thought it might be appreciated - seems I was wrong . Ah well, I'll know better in future .

Hi, as you may know I don't look in here very often, not being a gig attender, so apologies if it's been said before but wouldn't this thread be improved by being calendar based? Dates across the top and acts own the side in alphabetical order. Perhaps restrict mods to updating it based on info supplied by members. The calendar could update itself automatically datewise, dropping those acts with no future entries and when new entries were made they would automatically be placed in the correct alphabetical order.
Clicking on any act/date square would open up a new box giving gig venue ad other (supporting) acts etc.
Do we have any members capable of putting such a thing together?

Dave - I can see the point, but to be honest, there's way too much work there. The simple idea of this thread was to alert people to upcoming tours - you see an artist you like - check their website for the nearest gig to you and ticket availability and then book online or do further googling - A calendar is a nice idea, but it would be way too complex to implement and maintain I think.

I have absolutely no problem with your response - nuff said! .
The way I visualised it is that most things would be automatic and keeping it up to date would be no more onerous than it is now with the exception that entries could only be made by a member of the Admin Team. Even that could be mitigated by making a pro-forma thing available to all (senior?) members to fill in the details and PM them to mods who would only have to review them for compliance and then hit their 'Enter' button.
For it to work as I envisage would involve a major effort (labour of love) by a very computer data base savvy individual/member to set it all up but maintaining it would be quite simple if it could be done. Manually updating a large calendar based web page I accept is a non-starter but that was not what I envisaged.

You may be the centre of your universe but that does not mean that every post on AoS is aimed at you, intended to be read by you or even expected to be read by you. The line you have quoted above is missing one important word, which changes the whole context. That word is the opening word, 'Alex'.
The sentence was addressed to Alex, not you or anybody else.The point I was trying to make was that I had received a rebuttal to my suggestion from you which was a bit borderline to say the least in terms of poilteness, Alex's rebuttal was equally firm but expressed in language that no one could take exception to. My comment, 'nuff said' was also aimed at Alex (part of the same sentence) and intended to say that I was not going to argue with him as there was nothing in his statement to take exception to .
The remainder of my post was my attempt to explain how and why I thought the objections about how much time it would take to maintain may have been overestimated if the underlying database could be put together in the manner I imagined.
I would just add that it takes two to be irritated about who has the last word.

Dave, you are seriously out of order. Anything you post in this forum is public and liable to a public response. You cannot post inflammatory comments and expect us to let them go because you are targeting someone in particular.

As far as I can see, your veiled threats have now become an open challenge to Chris. We do not accept that kind of behaviour in this forum. I suggest that it is YOU who needs to withdraw your post forthwith before WE take remedial action.
