One of the best films from the last few years is on BBC2 tonight - The Lives of Others. Compulsive viewing with a very human message. Dark and disturbing in places, but utterly brilliant and for once that's not just my opinion.

Just made my wife sit through Quadrophenia - she's never seen it before, and it reminded me just how many now famous names were in that movie. ("he's from Eastenders!") Shame it is the 1999 DVD release - taken from the VHS apparently!
I can believe it - 4:3, snow all over the place and generally rubbish audio - can't spoil a great film, though.
