Yup - my 401's plinth is about 1.5" thick ply with the maple top veneer. It's not an especially heavy plinth (certainly not compared to one made from solid wood) but its is extremely rigid and the wood, being so dense, is a total bar-steward to drill through - as I found out when drilling a slot in the rear to feed the arm's phono leads through.
It's sat on a pair of Ikea Corras boards, separated by a half squash ball in each corner, between each board. This has quietened the deck down to a level where it's virtually silent, mechanically.
