S1 Ep.1 is called 33" (33 minutes) and is an absolute doozie. A great way to start a great series. I wish I was seeing it for the first time.

it's awesome, a word that truly describes it.

If you havent seen the series buy the boxset you will not be disappointed

Watched 'Rosemary's Baby' yesterday for the first time in about 25 years

What a fantastic film, perfect perfomances, well paced, gripping and somehow unsettlingly creepy all at the same time. Horror through suggestion only, no blatent gore or slashing. Great direction, no fast cutting, wobbly documentary style camera work or any of that intrusive arty bollocks that breaks the suspension of disbelief and the immersion in the story and the world it creates.

If you've never seen it or not watched it in years check it out and realise what it is that is so wrong with contemporary movies.

Thought I would plug a movie I really like and just watched again: "The Last Days of Disco".
I have it on Criterion DVD, and it sports a beautiful picture and good (2 channel) sound by which I really enjoy the very classic disco soundtrack.
A beautiful looking movie with lots of music and beautiful girls and Chloe Sevigny. What more could anyone want? ( And it is very funny, Wednesday was "GayDay")

Impossible for any hetero male to watch the film and not fall for Chloe.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest [Blu-ray]

It really helps to have read the books. If you have, this is a great realisation of the third novel, given the constraints of a film. Noomi Rapace is again superb as Salander and Nyqvist is excellent as Blomqvist. The definition is only so-so but it's a great story and the court-room scenes are highly satisfying - although what a real judge would say about the police making an arrest during a trial would probably be unprintable.

One work of advice: my girlfriend insisted on watching it in dubbed English. Don't. The original Swedish voices with subtitling are far better and that's how I originally watched it.

I'm usually quite hard to please when it comes to movies, but last night I watched 'Carlos the Jackal' and thoroughly enjoyed it.

At 165 mins it's a little long, and as each scene is filmed in the appropriate language, jumping from english to german to spanish to palestinean etc. it takes a little concentration, but it's worth the effort.

Edit; Just found out that it is a film version of a Canal+ mini series, hence the length and a few little editing issues...

It doesn't claim to be factual account of the terrorist's life, but it does give a little insight into the motivation and ego's of these self styled glamorous 'freedom figters' (or ego driven misguided 'terrorists', take your pick) of the 70's & 80's.

It's pretty well directed, and to my mind is not particularly judgemental either way...worth a watch.

One small quibble why use an early 'new order' track (everything's gone green I think) as backing music to a hijack scene set in '75, and the 'lightning seeds' (or was it the bluetones) are not really a band I associate with the demise of the Berlin Wall...but I'm a picky fellow
