Overpriced they may be (who knows they may be an undiscovered gem?), but to me they actually look like pretty good speakers, and would likely be a riot on the end of a nice valve amp

Sansui made some quality kit during that era.

As with all things Hi-Fi, you really need to hear them before splashing the cash. Unless they are very cheap.

Over the years I have heard many large and impressive looking Japanese speakers with massive drivers and horn tweeters, ribbon drivers and all manner of goodies, only to be bitterly disappointed by lack lustre sound.

Not always. I have heard a couple of good uns' but the majority have been on the naff side and made me wonder, how could they have got it so wrong with all that wonderful ironmongery bolted on the outside...

Lol - indeed. Different strokes, and all that.... Do bear in mind though that I love things like Wharfedale E70s (on the end of a nice valve amp)!

However, I'm not quite sure that what you're implying was where Sansui were 'at' in those days (although I do take Dave's point on board). Had it been 'Matsui', instead, then we'd be in total agreement!

I guess we'll never know if the Sansuis are shite or not, as I suspect no-one here is going to shell out £800 to find out

Why not put a cheeky offer in and move the decimal point to a more 'realistic' place?

The bass units look a bit like old Elac units, but almost certainly, won't be.
