Bit of an update on the Thorens. I had to solder a new phono lead on as the old one was crap and had a din plug on the end of it.Gave it a bit of a clean up and adjustment and was ready to plug it in. Well feck me sideways it don't sound half bad with its Shure M44-5 cartridge on it,And Ive not checked the alignment on it yet or cleaned it by it sure does sound sweet.I think I may have got a bargain..

You certainly have at a fiver! Never seen any hifi apart from crappy Ferguson stack systems at our local shops.

Does the TD150 have a Thorens arm on it? Would be worth at least 10 times what you paid for it on ebay by the looks. Result!

Yes i believe so.I think its all original in wooden plinth with manual as well as did the speakers with there little envelopes with instructions and unused warranty card.Ive give the speakers cabs a good waxing and they look superb.I might treat the TT to a new belt and a drop of oil.I think a new belt and oil will cost more than TT and speakers lol..

For some reason EMT 927 turntables (the first EMT designed for the professional market) are very collectable. As far as I'm concerned they have no advantage over the smaller 930. The 927 could play 16" masters and to do that were equipped with 12" arms, whereas the 930, despite having a 13" platter is intended only to play 12" discs or smaller.

Originally there was a (very rare) 'calibration' version of the 927, using a glass slip-platter. This was years before Rega had the idea of using a glass platter. EMT chose glass as the surface could be polished to a mirror-smooth finish and keep that finish. Whether there were acoustic benefits to be heard over the conventional acrylic slip-platter I dont know. Such glass slip-platters are now available for the 930, but they are very expensive.

The Emporium's sample on eBay is without an arm and looks as if it hasn't been kept in the dryest of environments, however the (expensive) idler wheel does look to be in good condition.

But £15,000? Well they are rare, but it's not the calibration version. I certainly wouldn't pay anything like that, and I doubt if many EMT enthusiasts would either!

If I lived closer and had a bigger room I would have asked to have a listen but I live across the water, my room is too small so they just would not work.

I hope they find a good home Ali and soon.
