Looks very similar, but the drivers were in line vertically Looks to be about the right size to if that's an 8" bass unit.

I think the port might have been under the bass unit as well. Just imagine that pic moved about a tad & you have got them

E2A:- The bass unit had a cast alloy chassis & was the same shape as the mid in that picture. It wasn't painted, it was alloy coloured. Same kind of pulp cone & suspension

Yep, it was the Conway The name hit home like a hammer

It was probably a later version like you say, that new picture is spot on, they sounded damn fine as well as kicking some ass

The old ones i first pictured are Conway Mk1..you cant see it but they had a low level metal box section frame bolted to the underside the output terminal pod was on the underside of the speaker aswell, the same applied to the 5 unit 'Howards', btw those original 'Howards' are probably the best speaker i've ever owned..Nothing like early Castles for kicking out Jazz based moosik..

just reading what you 2 (andre and mark) wrote about the castles, mine have the same tweeter but insted of black it's brushed steel, and the same 8inch bass, with the same cast chassis and brushed steel surround, castle must have used these drives in many of their speakers, i must admit that tweeter is a little odd, but certainly does the business, i've tried them on a whole range of music except classical, err cos i don't listen to it, but everything from jazz through to hip hop and metal, and up to now my ebay cast off's are very impressive.

Cast aluminium baskets, those tweeters are very good tweeters on the ear..An upgrade thats worth doing is the crossover caps.
