Spinning Today - What Are You Listening To Right Now? (Part 4)

Many years ago, my youngest son, aged what, 14 or 15 bought this for me, from a charity shop, out of his pocket money; "I thought you'd like this Dad".

Aside from bringing a tear to my eye every time I listen to it, just take a look at that track listing. Incredible.

Wow, that is a great selection and an even better back story! A few on there I don’t know from the titles but some fabulous tracks I’ve not heard in years. Might have to see if I can assemble a Tidal playlist to mirror that!

When I was first dating Sue in 2003 we were having a record night and I was putting on songs she liked. She tried to describe a song she remembered when she was about 3 or 4 that her auntie used to play over and over again - about the best she could manage was she remembered it had a sort of “whoop” vocal in it. Her jaw dropped when I said “Althea and Donna?” Then pulled a 7” single out and played Uptown Top Ranking!

I've got to hand it to you Alex, getting to Uptown Top Ranking (great track) from "it had a sort of "whoop" vocal in it" is beyond me. No wonder you ended up together, I certainly couldn't have done that !

I remember Althea and Donna's 'Uptown Top Ranking' with the "Oop", But if someone had asked what was the song with an 'oop' in it , I wouldn't have been able to suggest anything.

And yet she thinks Pink Floyd is a racket!

The sad thing is I even knew that it was a green coloured label which made it easier to find (my 7” singles for some reason have never been filed alphabetically) although I did drop a point as I didn’t remember it was on Lightning! (Interestingly, just checked on eBay and it is spelled “Althia” not “Althea” on the record label itself).

Amazingly all those tracks were on Tidal so playlist created and I will give it a whirl tomorrow.

Anyway, this one’s near the end and the close of the night and bed time!

Nice one! I see it’s on “K-Tel” - that’s a blast from the past I had forgotten about!

We can all compare notes when you get it!
