Not bad - a bit 'macho' for my taste, and I think a chunkier link bracelet would IMO look better than the one fitted..

People get all sniffy about homages but a good looking watch is a good looking watch and most of them have decent movements in as well.

Was a time every other watch in my collection looked like a submariner now it’s only every third watch.

Pal of mine had a vintage Omega serviced a couple of years back and it was over a grand. Although his old man paid since it was a gift from him originally.

I was astounded but that's just how much it costs it seems.

A “service” on a mechanical watch is a quite remarkable process - essentially the entire movement is taken apart, cleaned, checked and any worn parts replaced or repaired and then put back together with all the proper oils and tolerances. So you are not only paying for the time, but the expertise. Having seen a few YouTube videos I’m actually surprised it’s so cheap!

I needed to have the clasp of the watch bracelet seen to many years ago. Took it to the Rolex agent who would only look at it if I had a complete service done, so it turned out to be an expensive operation. Can't remember how much it cost, but it was a few hundred quid. I shudder to think how much it would cost today.

The same applies to my film cameras. Being completely mechanical Leicas, all work done on them is expensive for the self same reasons as Alex has outlined.

Can you imagine how much a car service would cost if it too underwent the same process?

One I got off eBay after making a cheeky £60 bid and never expecting to win. “Seiko Mod” NH35 movement, “Deep Purple Edition” Submariner style one-off “BP Watch Co” creation.

I loved the colour but never thought I would actually wear it but it’s turned into one of my favourites, also came with a purple rubber strap but thought that was a bit overkill so it’s stayed on the Jubilee, which is a really solid bracelet with on the fly micro adjustment.

I love it, suspect I’m in the minority!
