For years I couldn't stand Neil Young's thin and 'weedy' voice. Then about twelve years ago I had a volte face (think it was with 'After the Goldrush') and have become a complete convert. Still dislike his grunge period output though.

Not sure he ever had a 'grunge' period. Most of the albums with Crazy Horse are quite heavy rock, but the only album he did in the grunge era was 'Ragged Glory' which is outstanding IMO.
