No, we're not talking about big money items. Every now and again a large parcel might arrive, with kids' socks, underwear, dishcloths, pot towels etc, and I'll say how much did that lot cost, and it'll be something like £3.62! Including delivery! So I just leave her to it.

They also sell a lot of audio-related crap, but it's so cheap it can be worth a punt:

Edit: It seems you have to sign in/register to access their stuff, but I'll tell you it was for an Ortofon 2M Black replacement stylus for 12 quid! I'd probably avoid that one.

We went to the Science Museum on Monday as part of our London break, managed to find this beauty in the “Space” section:





And then on the 2nd floor there is the collection of “The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers” which also includes both pocket and wrist watches. A few of the latter:













I have since become a bit obsessed with the Speedmaster and Nautilus…. (And the history of the “coaxial movement”.)

A huge collection of some beautiful pocket watches, too, here’s a small sample.







Well worth a visit if you are in the area, and one of the few free things to do!

It might have helped for them to explain what a 'coaxial escapement' is.

(BTW, do they still have a pair of Quad ESL57 electrostatic speakers hanging from the ceiling in the Science Museum?)

I did a bit of research and the London Science Museum have a pair of Quad ESLs on display along with a Quad 33 and 303, a Thorens 124 turntable, SME arm with a Shure cartridge. That is the system I used 25 years ago, and still use the same speakers, TT and arm today!

I haven't been to the Science Museum for a good while now - time for a revisit.

Now back to tic-toks.

And a lovely piece of horological history it is too!

(And of course brings everything together as Omega were the first (only?) manufacturer to adopt the George Daniels design pioneered in the adapted Nautilus. (Although the Speedmaster doesn't use the coaxial movement)).
