Anyone read Tone Audio Magazine? It's a freebie US publication, and most of it is high end stuff (and adverts) but they do have a themed "playlist" which often leads to an interesting discovery. Last issue (124) was Japanese themed, with an old and new track from Towa Tei - and this is a cracking album, from 1995, his debut solo album, however you may have heard at least one of his tracks before - he was part of Dee-Lite - "Groove is in the Heart" being their biggest hit.

Following on from Alex's post, I thought I'd dust this one off. Not played it in 30+ years. Bought in 1990, it was the last vinyl album I bought before taking a 20-year break from vinyl, in favour of the convenience of CDs. How times change.

Contributions from some respected names (Herbie Hancock, Maceo Parker, Q-Tip, Bootsy Collins), and playing it now I'm liking it more than I did back then

Well I've tried three or four times now, but I just can't make myself like that Alison Goldfrapp album. Too samey, and not a real instrument anywhere on it. A shocking waste of her vocal talent.

Calm things down a bit with this, a collection of less 'poppy' versions of her best known songs:

Sort of - I remember them doing 'Sign of the Times' on TOTP, where the lead singer's bottom half of her boobs were peeping under her cut-off t shirt I know, I'm such a perv.

Edit: I've just been checking out TOTP footage from 1983, and I can't find it. So either it was somewhere else, or I imagined it
