I have no experience with either Robin. How would you categorise them ?

Steely Dan were always a difficult band to categorise, for most of the album it was Fagen and Becker plus a number of session musicians many of whom came from a jazz background, which resulted in a jazz feel to many of the songs. When I think of middle of the road bands or acts, I’m looking at pop acts which Steely Dan could never be classed as.

Now then, we all know criticising Steely Dan is off limits on this site.

I'd probably better not mention that I find Dark Side Of The Moon a bit average.

There are lots of things that I feel I should like but they just don't turn me on - Radiohead is another example, they've got all the right ingredients yet they make me drift off.

But having our own individual tastes reassures me that no algorithm or AI can replicate us.

No, you can critique anything else as much as you want.

Floyd are okay in small doses, my favourite has always been 'Animals'. I think it's the least 'Floyd-sounding' Floyd. If that makes sense.

I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since the start; having seen them play in Bristol back in 1967 when Syd Barrett was still active. As a result I bought all their LPs up to, but not including, DSOTM. Like Pete, I wasn't that taken with it, and like Martin, much preferred "Animals" (which I saw performed at the Bath Festival).

Later with the advent of CD, I did get a copy of DSOTM, but I had to go through a number of remasters before I found a version I was happy with.

Not bad, but nowhere near as good as their first three LPs. Roger Chapman just 'screeches' too much on their later albums for my taste.

Superb voice and great production by Roland Orzabal and David Bascombe.
Also some lovely flugelhorn playing by our very own Guy Barker on track 8.

I think her and Roland must be pals, she did some guest vocals on "Sowing the Seeds", and did a smashing job
