Yes, I have four of the titles in 'standard' CD format. To be honest I'm not sure if the list is of recordings which, in the opinion of the compilers, are well mastered, or if it is a list of titles that have been remastered well, avoiding the compressed dynamic range because of the 'loudness wars'?

I get the impression that whoever wrote doesn't really know what they're talking about. Giving the DR scores for the vinyl releases is a bit of a giveaway there.

Certainly 'Back To Black' is heavily compressed on CD - I know, I have it. You can't physically put that level of compression onto vinyl even if you wanted to, it would not track, so citing the vinyl versions of albums as 'escaping the loudness wars' doesn't really make sense. On a level playing field vinyl inherently has much less dynamic range.

Yes, I agree with you and would place both 'Atom Heart Mother' and 'Meddle' above 'Wish You Were Here'.

AHM and Meddle both come from a stylistically similar PF place, whereas musically WYWH is quite different, far more guitar driven, so maybe a bit odd to compare them, although they all definitely have that PF feel to them.

I agree, the 'DR' numbering system is meaningless. It has no relation to anything one would understand to be a measure of dynamic range (such as dB). And, as you correctly point out, vinyl recordings cannot possibly have as great a dynamic range as CDs.
