I used to be in the Britannia Music Club in the 80s. Each month they'd have a 'record of the month', which if you didn't say "no thanks" promptly enough they just sent it to you. I never got round to it, so I'd end up with them. And I was too lazy to return them. A fair bit of Phil Collins and Eurythmics iirc.

Bryan Adams too. Think I still have the cassette release of 'Waking Up The Neighbours' somewhere.

Britannia was fatal for us lazy bastards. I suppose that's what they relied on to offset all those energetic folk who got their freebies then cancelled and opened another account and got them again.

Yes, I am the same, several albums I ended up with and never got round to sending back. At least that’s what I tell anyone who takes the piss out of my Five Star albums…

Not quite the same thing but similar, I had to resign from a book club because if you didn't order a book of your own choice each month, the book club's "book of the month" would be automatically sent to you. You could return it at your own cost and choose another title, but it was the sheer palaver that caused me to reluctantly resign my membership.

Shame really, as they would have a lot of interesting titles to choose from. They went out of business a couple of years later.

I was in a military book club for a while, they had a lot of interesting titles but if you ordered them they were always out of stock and they'd send you something not interesting instead. Which you could have picked up for a lot less money at any remaindered/discount book place which were everywhere back then.

Decided it was a scam, or possibly a scamola, so I quit.
