Didn't like the way the ORBE looked with the SME V mounted - the pillar sticks up a lot.

Rummaged through my bits and found some bobbins:

Before (not a great photo but hope you can see how far the pillar sits above the arm board):

    And after:

No noticeable difference in the SQ so happy

Your gear looks amazing Andy. Analogue heaven. How do you choose which one to use!

I don't usually like the look of the SP10 but yours is about the best I have seen. That tonearm on it looks like its got some new bearings.

Thanks. The SP10 does look good all in black. The arm has more than just the bearings and sounds fantastic.
How do I choose which one to use? With great difficulty

As the Orbe didn't sell I decided to put it back to as it was to eek the best performance from it.
Pete's Pylons, Pete's Feet and the acrylic platter.

Just needs a slight tweak as the platter is running just over 33.3 (33.4) so tomorrow I will get my DM out to play with the PSU.

Whoops - not updated this thread for some time - sorry

A few changes have happened and I will share over the next few days.
The biggest change are the speakers - I always wanted to try a pair of electrostatics and have managed last month to get a pair.
They are DIY and based on a kit from Australia by a company called ER Audio - the pair I have are ESL III's, built around 10 years or so and sounding very good (yes, electrostatics speakers do do bass).

    More change updates to come.

Wow. Something I like about electrostatics is that they're an uncompromising statement. No hiding them, and no rare wood or designer sculpture to placate other members of the household.

I haven't heard of this model before. How did you come across them?

So true about their imposing nature!
The plan is to change the appearance as the wood finish is just varnish and a lot of areas it has started to flake off so I will strip the varnish off and then darken the frames.

I am on several other forums and on one of them, one of the members was having a 'cull' of his HiFi gear and offered these speakers to the first person who showed interest which happens to me.
I went to his house to check them out and have a listen and thought they sounded really good so would have them.

Hired a van as to big for my car and the rest is history.
Really loving the sound quality (looks are OK) and plan to keep them for some time.

Really interesting Andy, I had never heard of them either - every day’s a school day! I agree in a darker finish they would look good. We look forward to seeing how they turn out!

This is what the internet is really for

I find that once I start refurbishing something it means I'm invested in it for the long term.
