My vintage Sansui from '77.
Au717 amp, dual mono, DC coupled, 85 wpc.
AT717 FM/AM, 4 gang FM tuning, 2 gang AM tuning, audiophile sound.
Not shown are the rack mounts and rack case just for these guys.
Some consider these to be their best pieces.

And my Dynaco A-25XL designed and made by SEAS in Denmark for Dynaco.

Just got hold of a Sansui 717 (its just arrived hopefully in one piece and not pieces ). It has only taken me since last September. I had got hold of a Sansui 710 back then, but it never arrived ! To this day I still don't know why and the seller refused to answer any of my emails or return my phone calls, but eventually the threat of involving the police saw my money refunded but no explanation.

So thanks to DarrenW I now have a Sansui 717 for my tuner review.

Took me 30 mins to unpack, Darren always does a good job. Everything as described, few marks here and there but nothing too major but not mint. I wasn't expecting mint.


I think that's about it now, unless an Acuphase comes along.

I will try and make a start soon, but as this was very much my project and as much for my own knowledge as everyone else, I now find myself snowed under with current products to review for the magazine and they must come first.

Every item that is loaned to me, can only in fairness be held onto by me for a reasonable period of time and to delay reviewing, what is after all their stock that has been loaned, for a project of this nature would be unfair to those that loan it and a big thank you from me for those loans.

The project is still on, as I think is evident by my continuing to pick up review stock but trade review items must come first.

What I propose to do is compare the Sansui 517 to the 717 and the Kenwood 5020 to the 3050 first, as there is some debate as to which of these is better and we will take it from there.

I know I have been promising this for quite awhile now but when I first mooted the project I was not running and writing for an ever growing on-line magazine as I am now. I guess the tuner project is suffering as a result of the success of Adventures In High Fidelity Audio.

The other problem is the space in my main system I would need, is now occupied by items that are in the process of being run in for future AIHFA reviews.

I have no idea why I keep buying vintage tuners but I have just scored a Beomaster 1700 in black and a Pioneer TX9100 to add to my collection..

I hope FM continues for a few more years.

£53 for that 9100 was day light robbery or a bargain depending on your perspective. It should have sold for much, much more. I have one and frankly it is stunning It is said that it comes close to the Accuphase 101. Care to have a listen and report what you think.

Yes and £10.50 for the B&O.

Everything is getting expensive on E-Bay but just now and then, people doze off and you can snap a bargain. Either that or no one wants to buy an FM tuner anymore...
